1. Introduction: Hello, everyone. Welcome to another tutorial. In this video, I am going to show you how to create this very trendy distressed denim design using Procreate. Before we proceed, make sure to download the attached files included for this tutorial, which is the precious and then the color palette. But you can definitely use your own color palette if you have any. So yeah. 2. Adding The Text: What I'm going to do first is to add my text, add wrench icon ad, and then add text and then Mama. In case you're wondering, the one that I'm using here, it's called AlphaSabO I'm not sure if I downloaded this or if it's part of the stock font of Procreate, but you can go ahead and check it out. If you can find it, you can probably find one that is already here. But you want to make sure that you are choosing the chunky or the bold font. But you'll probably be able to search for that as well. It's very easy. We have the word Mama, all in capital letter. What you want to do next is to put it at the center, just like that. Then while on your selection tool, go to freeform, and then I want to make it taller. Really tall. Because if you search on at C, the This is one of the trending font, but it's really tall. I probably want to make it a little bit thinner. I mean, I want to compress it a little bit. So I think that should be good. All right. And the next thing that we are going to do Oops, let me just delete that. Just forget about the layer one, okay? So this is our font, right? So you want to duplicate it, and then on your duplicated one, tap it and then set it to rasterize so we can change the color to black. Okay. And if you want to change the color to black, just set it to Alpha lock by using two fingers, swipe it to the right. That's the shortcut for Alpha la, then you can feel the color like that. But you want to make sure to turn off the alpha lock after. Now it's the lower one, the one underneath is already in black. So our next will be, I have my shortcut here for Gaussian blur by pressing this one, and if you don't know how to do it, I'm going to provide you the shortcut. In one maybe in the future, but don't be confused if you see me pinching this and then the quick menu pops up here. But the shortcut, that's the shortcut, but the way to do it is to go, it's the one icon and then look for Gaussian, where is it Guzzi and blur. There you go. We want to set it to Guzzi and blur and then keep swiping to the right until you reach around 12%. You can play around. It's totally up to you. Then after that, let's go to Selection Tool, make sure your automatic is on, and then color fill is on, and your color should be black. Then we tap on top of the text, not outside, but on top of the text. Tap it just like that. Okay. And then you want to make sure that you don't go over 100% because it's or 99% because it's going to fill out your entire screen. If that happens, you can always go back. Just like that, see what happens. But it should be around 89% is fine. Maybe more. Whoops. Whoops. There you go. 90% for me is fine. I want to make sure that I'm covering all the holes in here. So that should be good. What I want to do next is to add a layer on top and then clipping mask and set my color to gray. I can probably add this gray here. Gray. And then the blend mode, this is called the blend mode. We want to set it to hard light. And then go to your brush, look for felt and then do this. You can see this is like a felt, but you will understand later why I added this one. Okay. Now, what we want to do next, we can merge these together, these two. 3. Adding Denim Texture and Stitch: Now what we want to do next, we can merge these together, these two. Yeah. And then what we want to do next is to add a layer on top of our mama, which is the text and then clipping mask and then look for the brush that is denim. Now, what you want to do here is to change the color, change the color to lighter lighter blue, just like that. Then the layer three, let's set it to multiply. The layer on top of your text. Let's set it to multiply and then make sure to select the darkest blue. Now, again, we have the denim. We want to brush it over here. If you're not satisfied with the texture of the denim, there is a way for you to change it. You can go to your brush, select the denim and then go to grain. You can adjust the size of the grain or the denim texture. So let me show you the difference. This is what it looks like right now, and I adjusted it to a smaller grain. Now this looks smaller like the grain of the denim, if that makes sense. Also, if you're still not satisfied, you can duplicate this one, it's just going to get darker, I think I like this one better. I like the darker one better or if you think it's too dark, you can always play around with the opacity. I think this one's good. Then I'm not going to merge anything yet, so I'm just going to keep adding layers. I'm just going to rename them so you won't get confused, This is denim whoops. Then this is also denim. Now, add a layer on top and then clipping mask again. You actually don't have to clip this, but it's fine. You will see if it's visible or not. I think I like that color. Yeah, that's good. What I want to do next is to again, grab the running stitch and you want to make sure to add a layer on top. We can rename this stitch. Okay. And then just do this. You can add one here. If you cannot control how it looks or the angle of it, you can always stop and then whoops, free hand, color fill off. You can always select it and then rotate because sometimes it goes like this and you can't control it. So you can always use the selection tool to fix it. I hate it when it does that. Sorry about that. But anyway, let's continue. So you get what I'm doing, right? I'm adding the stitch. And if you think the stitch is too big, you can always change the size of it, but I have the middle size. I only need one here. So I can remove this, right? And I can move this here a little bit. You know, it takes time, but it's a really nice design. And if you're if you get the hang of it, it's going to be quicker. I definitely do this quicker when I'm not talking, but, yeah, I want to make sure that you're getting every detail. So I'm pretty sure you understand what I am doing right now, right? I'm adding the stitch. So what I want to do now is to go ahead and add the stitch with everything, and then I will come back. And if you're following along right now, you can definitely pause it too, and we will all go back with the stitch already added on our design. Also, I want to add that just keep going. You don't have to complicate it or you don't have to overthink it, right? Because if you're having stitches that are going on different directions, just ignore it for now and then just keep adding until the last one, and then later on, you can go back to fix them using the selection tool. For example, you want to fix this like that. You get the idea, right? So, yeah. Also, I want to add just so I can be clear if we have beginners here in Procreate, right? So if you tap and hold just like the regular brush, if you hold it, it's going to be you're going to get the straight line and if you want to fix it, you want to make sure to tap edit line before it disappears. So that will give you the straight line. Now we have the same letters, right? So you don't have to do it manually just duplicate it and then move it to this to the other two. You're basically going to be doing the same thing. So just so I can help you save time, but then go ahead and pause this video and follow along. 4. Adding Embroidery and Frayed Yarn: Okay, so now that we are done, adding the stitch, what we want to do next is to add a layer on top, and we are going to name it embroidery. Embroidered embroidery or embroidery. Yeah, embroidery. Now we are going to select the blue color with the darkest one, and we are going to get the messy embroidery. But I'm going to give you another option here. Right now, if you can see the embroidery design here, it's messy, which means that the sizes of the thread are not the same, but some of my friends they told me that they prefer using the better not better, but same even sizes. What you want to do is you can duplicate this and then select it and then go to dynamics. Then when it comes to speed size, Then opacity jitter size, you just have to set it to zero so that no matter what the speed is, it's going to be even. I'm going to show you the difference. But I like it messy and even the color, the color actually changes when it depends on your speed. So if you want it even regardless of your speed, then you can go ahead and mess up with the speed. Under dynamics, but I like it messy. But I'm telling you now with this kind of design, you actually cannot tell if it's even or not. But in the future, if you want to create a different design where you can actually see the difference, then you can go ahead and do that. So this is not messy, so whoop. I'm just going to name it embroidery. But I'm going to use that, so I'm going to put it under just so you know how to change your brushes, but I'm going to use the embroidery messy one. With the color, I'm probably going to play around which one's better. I think that's good. Now with this one, we have to be really careful not to cover the stitch. If you find it difficult on your next round, you can even put the embroidery design first before you add the stitch. But if you really cannot control your hand, what you want to do is to add a layer on top over here and then unclip it. These do unclips but they're fine. They don't need to be clipped on your text, right? And then you can go like this, like that. Again, this doesn't have to be perfect. Just go over it. Then for example, I'm going to give you an example. You notice that this one, this part of it here, for example, it was too far from the edge like that. You don't have to undo it. You just go to your liquefy tool, which is again under the one tool and then go to Liquefy just like that. Make sure you push size should be covering this part and you can just push it to fix it. You don't have to undo because I know it can be annoying to if you keep undoing your work, you can just go ahead and do it, and then later, you can go back and fix whatever needs fixing. Right? I hope it makes sense. So just like that. And don't be too perfectionist about it because I'm going to show you later. We are going to cover this anyway. It depends on you. If you want this design, it's okay. You can just stop after adding your embroidery. But the design that I'm showing you right now is like it has the frayed or distressed design right, like that. Now, if you want to duplicate this, that's fine. Yep. Oops. Just make it higher a little bit. That's great. You want to make sure that you're not merging anything yet, and I'm going to show you later. I'm going to show you why. So this is embroidery embroidery one. Actually, we can merge these two. Sorry about that. Embroidery. Okay, that's our embroidery design. Okay. Now we want to go to our distressed yarn. And here we add a layer on top of this embroidery, and you can name it distressed or frayed, actually. Frayed. Yarn. I don't know why I named it distress, but it should be frayed. It's actually should be under the embroidery, frayed yarn, and then make sure it's not clip. Now, when it comes to your color, we have the primary color and secondary color here. The primary color, I'm going to show you the difference. If you add primary color and secondary, it's going to be a mixture of whatever you choose. I want to make my secondary color whiter, it's going to give me more blue color than the white. It's like a mixture, so it's not solid blue because when it comes to denim, I don't know if you notice that it's not perfect or solid blue. It's like a combination of blue and white, but this is totally it totally depends on your preference. So I also want to remind you that selecting if you're changing the color of your secondary color, you want to make sure to go back to your primary before you start using your brush. And if you don't want the brush opacity to vary, you can always turn it off to zero or the size if you're trying to explore, you want to make sure that you're duplicating it or you can always download the original one. But yeah. I'm going to choose the color, the darkest one and then I'm going to choose a bluish white here, but not too white, if you know what I mean. We are on frayed yarn. I don't know if I spelled it right. Now, when it comes to the size, you can definitely play around with the size of the yarn. Whoops, I think I went over. I went over. It's okay. I can always erase it later. I like that. All right. No, that's not the end. You can duplicate it. And I want to add one more, but this time, I want to make it solid blue. There you go. I want to add a solid blue one, but it's gonna be on a different layer. This one totally depends on your preference, okay? Let's not forget about that. You have your own taste when it comes to art. This is just how I want mine. And if you guys notice the trend right now is imperfect one, so you don't have to worry about making it too perfect because people now are more drawn into imperfect designs. If you notice we have empty ones here like that. So it doesn't look weird. I think that's so cute. And the background, which is this one, you have the option to turn it off, but for me, I think it's better if it has that, especially if I want to put it on a different colored background later. You probably will not be able to see it if you don't have the background. So that's the purpose of that. See? I'd love to have that background still so it's still visible on a different colored background. Okay. Now, what I want to do with my embroidery design actually. In my embroidery, let's see the difference. I will duplicate that one and then go to black and then Alpha lock Woops. Alpha lock and then fill layer. You can see the difference. If it has a black background, it's more solid. But it's totally up to you. So, yeah, I think it's cute. 5. Adding Distressed Design: And if you want to add the freight design or the distressed design, you can add another layer on top, go to the white color and then look for the distressed yarn. Yeah, this one, yarn distressed. Yep. So just add this random strokes. You can even change the color, make it a little blue, and make it thinner maybe. Just like that. Then add another layer on top. Let me just add another layer on top and then you don't have to set it to clipping mask, and then you can select the embroidery again and then you can play around with the color. I think it's too big. You can play around with the color. I think that's good. You can always change the color later. And if you think it's too big, free form. Set it like that, and then adjust it. And those excess here, you can always delete those. Delete the excess, just like that. But I think I want to make the color of this darker. Maybe darker is better. Um let's see the perfect one. You can always zoom out to see if you can see the design or not. Maybe I want to duplicate this. Yeah, I can see it. And also, again, I want to add the freight design, and I can put it in between them. I want to make it dark blue with the secondary color white. I hope this is not too much. I hope it's not confusing for you guys. You can always pause and then take note of the step. I noticed that for me, taking note of the step really helps me so much in remembering. Yeah, I think that's good. See how cute it is. It's like distressed denim design. If you want to add more over here. I'll go ahead and do that and then I'll show you the final result. You can go ahead and pause and then go back for you to follow along. Now I only added two so far, but yeah, this is how cute it is. You can sell this as PNG. People are now looking for this design. Now, what I want to do right here, don't forget, don't merge anything yet because you want to make this your template. I am a big fan of template because if I want to keep doing this design, then I don't have to start from scratch all the time. So duplicate this one and you name this your template, and don't delete it. Want to do is to duplicate this one. And I'm going to name this OG. So I don't delete it. Or you can even save it in your folders, and I'm not going to touch that one just for my backup. But again, I have the template here. This is the one that I'm going to flatten. And if I sell it, I want to make sure that the background is off. 6. Curving The Text and Changing Designs: You can also duplicate it, right. Actually always duplicate the original one if you want the best quality of your artwork. Because if you keep duplicating the duplicated ones, then you're going to keep losing quality. So flatten this one, and I'm going to have two different variations. So this one is a straight one. But what if I want to make it curve? So that's the purpose of our grid right now. So select or the arrow tool, and then go to warp and I want to curve it a little bit. So I want to follow this line, so I put it point it on the center at the center, right? And I want to make sure to follow the straight line just a little bit. I don't go like that. I don't go like that. I have to follow the line that's going to be my guide, just like that. And for this one, if you want to add if you want to make your grade smaller, so you can have a line here that you can follow. But I can see if I'm going way over the line or way far from there. I'm just using this as my guide. You know what I mean, right? So at the bottom part, again, it's the same one. So you see what I did there? Sometimes it's hard to grab this one and then go upwards. So what you want to do is to go downwards first and then push it to the top just a little bit. And then, again, this one, you can almost see it on the screen, but I can see it a little bit. Push it a little. Push this a little. Let me see. I think I'm going to push it some more. And this one I definitely want to move this too a little bit. And I think that's perfect. That's how I do my curb. Now, if you think it's too compressed. There you go. I think that's cool. I think that's cute. Now, you can go ahead and play around with your color. This is a dark denim design. But what if I want to make it pink. Let's find a pink color. Always remember that your base design should be super light. That's pink. It's a light pink, right? But then with this one, I want to go pick a darker pink for that one. I want to make sure to set it alpha lock, alpha lock. We want to turn them to alpha lock like all of them. Okay, so we have this on Alpha o. We can put it pink, pink and see the difference. I think it's cute. But then you also want to make sure that you're changing the color of your embroidery to pink. I think I want to make the embroidery darker. Let's see the difference. There you go. If you think the black, actually, the black, you don't have to change it. I think I want to make it even darker. Fill. There you go. I think the darker one is better. For this one, I accidentally merge it. This one, you can change that too. But I want to be very honest with you. I accidentally merge these two, so I cannot change sorry, I cannot change them anymore. I will have to redo the color. Let's see what happens if I drop the color. Where? Where is it? See what happens if I drop the color pink. You can. I can actually do that. That's why we need to separate all our layers so we can easily change the colors later. Um, darker, darker pink. Yeah, I think that's cute. Let's see how this goes. Oops. Did I select the wrong one? Maybe darker. There you go. And then this one. What am I doing wrong? Oh, there you go. So I just want to be very careful. Maybe a little lighter. You can't almost see it anymore, but again, you can play around with the color always. So there you go. I have another version of it, a different color, and I can duplicate this one. And then flatten it. Now, I have the blue one, I have the pink one. Now, another thing that you can do here is instead of the denim, I can turn these off, add another layer on top, and I can actually insert a different totally different design. Like if you know how to create seamless patterns or any kind of patterns, you can use those. Let me find the leopard. No, I have a very beautiful leopard here, fall, fall fall patchwork. This one. This is my favorite. So you can also add here different designs. But again, you want to make sure that you are changing the colors of each to match the colors of the design file that you are adding. I'll go ahead and add another here. You can do better than this. You can do better than the colors that I chose. You definitely can pick the perfect color. But, yeah, that's the step by step guide. Tips for you. You have to take note of the steps for you to. You can put it on writing on your journal, your paper, so you can follow the steps without going back to the video. But if you want to watch the video, if it's easier for you that way, if you have a separate device, then you can definitely go back. But if you only have one device, you can take note of the steps. It's easier that way. I would love to see your output. You can be very playful. I'm going to give you more brushes here. I'm going to give you more textures that you can use so you can play around. I also have here cow prints, Leopard, zebra, happy creating.
