An overview of what tourism is.: To answer, what is tourism is one of the biggest challenges. It is such a complex, shifting and changing industry that is almost impossible to determine exactly what is storage. They approach we are going to use is to consider two rays as an umbrella term that underneath there are many segments. The next chapter, we wouldn't see about basic concepts, like what is today's visitor, traveler and three. But it's very difficult to define what to dismiss. Let's start with the most basic of all, tourist is an industry. And the really big one, the United Nations world traveler Organization estimates that one out of every ten jobs related to tourism to reason obviously, includes moving and traveling. But tourist, not only for today's before, everything becomes too complicated. Let me explain. Someone who is moving inside his province is not considered a tourist, but he can engage in many activities that belongs into the tourism industry. I hope I made clear the complexity of the industry. And now together, let's examine those segments that are under the umbrella term of tourism and the service. Thank you for watching. 3. Transportation.: The transportation segment is one of the most obvious sectors that fall under the umbrella and is responsible for the movement of people from one location to another. And this includes invite variety of different types of travel, including road arrayed and what rebased methods. Now let's start with the first type of transportation. The airline industry. It is the industry that made our world smaller and the derivative of many people to travel around the world possible. Next one is the car. The car rental. The car movement, and the current services provide customers with a temporary access to a car. Cadherins the tourists move to a destination or to move at the destination. The next one is the water transportation. It involves everything that has to do with movement on a water body, like seas, oceans, rivers, and lakes. It can be the way movement to a destination or in the destination. The next one is the codes. Services mainly devolves local travel, but as it's very cost-effective, the international codes travel is gaining popularity. The next one we are going to examine is the railway. Similarly to the code services, train travel is becoming more and more popular because of the price efficiency and the environmental impact. Furthermore, similarly to the code services, train travel is more common in domestic trips, but they can also can have international appearance. The last but not least, at least for the moment. We have space vehicles. The moment I am writing the script for this lecture, space, X company has already sent the first official tourists into the orbit. And that's just the beginning. And that's service. Thank you for watching. 4. Accommodation.: The next segment that we're going to find under the umbrella of tourists, that commendation one. And we will start with Airbnb. Airbnb is the biggest recent revolution in the field of tourism. Hotels are the most popular form of accommodation, steel. But the type of accommodation like Airbnb and the ability of the Airbnb in general to give to ordinary people some extra income is only growing bigger and bigger. In many occasions, Airbnb has became the synonym of booking and accommodation destination, like the term Google. When we are going to use it in order to set something, we'll say we're going in a B&B, like we say, I am going to Google it. Next link, we have hotels. Hotels are still the most popular form of accommodation, and they offer private accommodation, and in most cases, they offer something additional services. Most common award breakfast, a human in the reception in most of the cases now, we have some robots doing this, but in the vast majority use a receptionist. Facilities like pool of Jim. The next type of accommodations we have is the youth hostels. As the name indicates, it's more common with young travelers. Usually they're Sarah accommodations, but there's some that they offer private rooms with common bathrooms and showers. Also, they have common kits and eggs. For the types of accommodations we have come and gone camping. Here, we are talking about organized camps and clamps and not the free ones. Camping is almost always taken place in open space and it evolves temporary accommodation like a tenth or a carbon. The big organize camping have all the amenities that you need like supermarkets, restaurants or bathroom. Usually there is a cheapest form of accommodation. Glam being in the other side is laxity, camping in a unique locations and they offer you ten caravans that they can be more expensive than even hotels. For example, igloo gland beginning freelance or staying in a traditional nomadic tribes tend in Morocco. And as I said, usually there are more expensive than average COVID or MBB that area. Next we have the smallest of these types of accommodations. The agritourism. Once more and more people choose to combine their accommodation with an outdoor experience and try to escape from the urban environment that they usually live in. There is an increase, small but steady increase in demand for accommodations that they offer. Connection with nature. Farms, that they offer some kind of experiences like collection, continually growing. Now we're going to talk about cruises. Cruzi survey, unique because they combine and commendation and transportation is the only form of accommodation that combines those two. Lately, as the environmental impact is becoming a big concern, there are estimations that accrues traveling is going to decline, especially with the young demographics. And now, especially after the events of COVID-19, we see a tremendous decline in the people who choose for the accommodation cruises. The solvus. Thank you for watching. 5. Food and Beverage.: The next segment that we would find under the umbrella of tourism is the food and beverage one. And we will start with restaurants. Restaurants is the most common are world, unlike tourist is an umbrella term. When we are mentioning restaurants, we also mean taverns, fast food chains, local establishment takeaways, the diners. Obviously in every destination they have different names. But when we mean restaurant, we mean establishment where you can get something to eat. They can be from thrift stores to very luxury restaurants and expensive ventures. The next one is the bars and cafes. But as usually, tend to focus on alcoholic beverage, but many also offer food. In contrast, cafes are focusing more on saving coffee. Tea, and snacks usually pass through this and sweet. But also the performer. Many cultures are the report on roads like socialization. Obviously depending on the culture. For example, in some cultures they have theorems instead of cafes. The next one we are going to sit now after the restaurants, the bars and cafes, or the nightclubs, as we showed in the previous categories. Also here it depends on the culture and the location. Nightclubs at a very prestigious form of entertainment in Paris, for example, with SOS and performance. And they're actually musicals, but equally important that are in London where they don't involve performances and musicals. They are focusing more on music and the dance aspect. In both cases, they serve mainly alcoholic beverage, in some cases, also food. And last but not least, we have the wineries, the breweries, and the distilleries. In some cases, the winery is the breweries. And the distilleries can be the main attraction, the city, region or area. We have the examples of some distillery in Scotland, the binaries of Bordeaux, in the majority of the cases they offer your samples are what they are preparing. And in many cases they also offer you food that is suitable to accompany the specific beverage. That's always. Thank you for watching. 6. Entertainment.: The next category that lays under the umbrella of the tourism industry is the entertainment one. The first segment of the payment sector. The tools. Usually when we are talking about an activity related to risk, then we're thinking of tours. Determine is massive and dating glutes countless variations as nowadays, everything can be transformed into a tool. But from the moment we arrive in Canada destination, the primary activity that we are seeking is to hire someone to show us around. Our tool can have cultural character. It can be a hunting tool, it can be a footstool and adventure tool, a tool that includes a sports activity like San Miguel running and countless more. If you're a DVT includes movement, then almost everything can be transformed into a tour. In the next segment is shopping. It can be from a tiny Shogunate to a massive shopping spree with a purpose for someone to get a totally new clothes. Shopping is in the core of entertainment. Into the tourism industry. Some destinations have become synonyms of shopping, like Milan in Italy and TBI in the United Arab Emirates. The next segment, we are going to talk about the museums and the attractions. We are going to see later in fair that the chapters, how many people are visiting museums and attractions, natural or artificial ones? One example is at the dismay, amusement parks are attracted in total more than a 100 million visitors globally. That means attracting more visitors than the country. That is attracting more visitors, in that case France. Some museums like Louvre in Paris and the British Museum. The same attractions like the Great Wall and the Taj Mahal at attracting million visitors. Now, last but not least, we are going to talk about diabetes activities is a little bit of a fluid term. If I may use this expression, as people tend to include in this temp, everything that they do and it's not branded as a tool. If someone is doing good afternoon ride or a horse, right? It's not technically a tool, but it's definitely an activity. If someone rent a car to go alone to visit something, she would like to see. It's also considered as an activity. So here we are going to place everything that someone is doing in a destination that is not dual. Or visiting a museum or an attraction. That's always, thank you for watching. 7. Related Industries.: The last segment that we will find under the umbrella of the tourism industry is the related industries. One here is where things are becoming a bit more complicated. As a related industries can be any industry that benefits from the existence of tourism. For example, we started with a financial services, the most famous of NSL services, or the currency saints. But we also have arise in the market of the travel insurances. The second segment we see is a travel agents. Travel agents sell products with commission, but they don't perform any by their own. More or less than the intermediate between clients and tourism product providers. Now we're going to talk about them. We have two operators. The role of a tour operator is to combine products and travel products together in order to sell packets. Holidays, usually they include accommodation, tickets for a form of travel like plane tickets and maybe some tickets for attractions. Now we're going to talk about the marketing agencies. As tourism is a growing constantly, there is a massive competition and people start realizing that they need of specialized marketing. Agencies focusing the promotion of tourist destination and business is mandatory. New destinations are emerging all the time. And now we have to pass from the period of the traditional celebrities into the period where Eastern gram influencers can literally determine the next trendy destination. You don't need to like this, but you need at least to acknowledge the growing effluent of marketing agencies influencers. The next thing that we're going to talk is the DMO, the tourism boards, the tourism authorities, the conventions, and the visitors bureaus. Usually destinations are creating organizations that are under the jurisdiction of a local, regional, or national authority. And they have the ability to make political and legal things, as well as the financial means to manage the designation resources or these campaigns you'll see with logos, visit and a destination. For example, visit Spain, visit Greece, visit the therapy is a good example of this. The next methylated industry is the facility services. And with the most famous of them, the cleaning services. Almost off segments of the tourism industry have the need to hire a facility or a cleaning service from this model said BNB that needs to clean professionally the linens and bed sits to the biggest hotel that needs special personnel to clean the jacuzzi and the pool. These impossible not to find customers for the cleaning services, facilities services, and professionally cleaning services are necessary to the tourism industry. And this one of the sectors that almost always stays in the shadows. The next related industry is that education institutions, even what I'm doing that very second and talking to You can be considered as part of the tourism industry. Universities, colleges, seminars, webinars, and online courses like this one only exists because of the tourism industry and the unique character that has an evolved so of the time. That's always thank you for watching. 8. Synopsis of what tourism is.: As we mentioned many times, they approach we are using is to consider tourism as an industry or more specifically, as an umbrella term. Under it includes many, many more segments. Now, weekly rates, remember those five segments. So we have a number one, the transportation segment. And inside this segment, we have the airline industry, the current and car ownership, what their transportation, coaches, railways and space vehicle. In the second segment, we have the accommodation with Airbnb, Hotels, youth hostels, camping and clamping aggregate tourists and cruises. In the third segment, we had the food and beverage. And in that segment we have restaurants, bars and cafes, nightclubs, wineries, breweries, and distilleries. In the fourth segment, we have the detainment with tools, shopping, museums, attractions, and activities. In the fifth and last segment, we have the related industries with financial services that are bid Laden's tour operators, marketing agencies, Deimos, tourism boards, to national authorities, Convention and Visitors Bureau, facility services, cleaning services. Last but not least, education institutions. All those segments together, they're creating the industry that we all know as a tourism industry. That's always thank you for watching. 9. What/Who is a tourist?: In the previous chapter, we saw what was the tourism industry. Now we will see what is a tourist, a traveler, visitor, trip. And we will start with a big question. What is a tourist? Too many scientists and setters in the tourism industry have attempt to provide a documented definition of what doors means. But to this, this first definition, at a little bit complicated, Let's save. So I tried to summarize them. Since the 1940s. And the hunger and crafts definition, where we say a few words, they characterize tourism stood as the effect of the impact of a journey to a person who doesn't stain that relays neither he worked in that place. In the post-war period, a tourist was someone who didn't have a residence permit to a place, let's say in that case in Madrid. But also she didn't work in Madrid. Neither. He got an invitation to beat Madrid. He visited Madrid without any purpose. As you can see, that visit has an impact on him. As I said, these model doesn't have functionality in these days. Nowadays, taken part in events and travel for work is one of the primary criteria. Designate someone as a tourist. The main problem with this definition is that it doesn't include most types of tourists to buy the business nowadays. Like Convention tourist, business, tourists, sports stories, event stories, and many more categories that they are under the, as we said before, the umbrella of tourism. Few years later in 1975, the Swiss Casper define stories for the first time as a system. Casper believe that the result you get from visiting a place and state in that place, that is not your permanent place or resident. Neither you work there for this section that someone is doing to that place. Defining as storage. Once again, even if the switch was a pioneer, is definition, doesn't have it at the functionality today. Nowadays, we have many cases where people are traveling inside the area where they live in their tourist. For example, citizen of Montana can travel inside Mountain, still be tourist. She can do all the tourist activities you can go to, to displaces. She can totally be tourist. I mean, no one can say to c does not matter that he cannot be in Montana. My favorite definition comes four years later from one of the leading today's many sensors. Lipid in 1979 points out that correlation of actions that have as their main feature, the voluntary movement and the residence of a person our way from his usual place of residence. This definition is simple and down to earth and is valid in nowadays, we go out, do a simple field survey and asked a 100 people to give their own definition. This definition that we are going to receive. It's not going to have a shoots deviation from lepers. As the years are passing. We have more complicated definitions, like the one we got from knocking doors and goodness in 1989, where they define tourism as the aggregation of phenomena and relationships that come to the surface from the relationship of tourists, businesses, suppliers, governments, and local communities in process to reach out tourists and visitors. In that case, tourist is the full force of tourists. Another approach, a little bit more weird. Now, we are going to see the most official of the official definitions. As we are going to see the definition of the World Tourism Organization, the WTO. If you Google it, it's going to appear as I WE DO International World Tourism Organization because many people confuse it with the World Trade Organization. But anyhow, now, the water is an organization, has its own definition. And that's like tourism involves the activities of a person who travels and leaves in a place outside, didn't stamp this environment nor more than a year for fun, work and other activities. Tourist is anyone who move around from his home and do things that usually it doesn't do for less than one year. If you do it more than a year, then technically you consider an immigrant. I will give you my own oversimplified definition, inspired, of course by lipid. A tourist, according to me, is a person who is away from in indefinite time and distance from his permanent residence in order to engage in activities that they're not part of his everyday life. To reason, as we mentioned in the previous chapter, is an industry that works as an umbrella term. And we can find many segments that have as a purpose the management of tourists. I am sorry if I confused you with long and deep definitions and the service. Thank you for watching. 10. What/Who is a tourist?: What these traveler, opposite to the definition of what is a tourist. Here we don't have any issues defining who is a traveler. A traveler is a person who travels. Here. I'm going to provide you with the definition we have from the word revenue organization. And I'm going to include in the reference glossary of tourism in order for you to check everything you want. According to the World prevalent organization. Parabola splice travel refers to the activity of travelers. In order to travel, you become a traveler. A traveler is someone who moves between different geographic locations for any purpose and for any duration. Now, the visitor is a particular type of traveler. And consequently, to raise is a subset of travel with a few words in order not to confuse anyone, you cannot become a traveler if you don't travel. And as always, thank you for watching. 11. What/Who is a visitor?: Finally, we thought that we finish with big and complicated definitions, but unfortunately, we still have one to analyze. Now we're going to see what this a visitor, and according to the word traveled organization, visitor is a traveler taken a trip to the main destination outside the usual and environment for less than a year. For any main purpose. That can be business, leisure, or any other personal papers, except to be employed. So if you go somewhere in order to work, you cannot consider needed a tourist or a visitor. A visitor can be separated in domestic, inbound, and outbound. And he's classified as a tourist. If he has an overnight visit. With very simple words, a visitor stops being a visitor and he became a tourist if he spent one night outside of his permanent address. So the only difference between a tourist and the visitor is that the tourists can have an open night stay. That's why if you take statistics, you are going to see that usually about their ports are about countries. They don't say 1 million tourists visited the country. They say this country had a million visitors. Because if I stop in the country for two hours to take another flight, I still considered as a visitor, but obviously I'm not going to destroy this country. I hope I made everything a little bit more clear. And as always, thank you for watching. 12. What is a trip?: Our last of the definitions, what this trip, according to the world traveler organization, it trip refers to the travel by a person from the time of departure from his or hers usual residence until she or see retails. Trips taken by visitors at tourism tricks. Actually trip is the period of movement that is happening from the moment the person leave his house and he tends. Obviously, as we mentioned, you need to be a visitor in order for your trip to consider a tourist trip. Because technically you leave your permanent address in order to go to work and then you return. This is technically a trip because it's the period of time that you are moving, but you don't spend the night in your working place, usually until you return back to your permanent address. In order for a trip, to consider a touring trip, you have to be a visitor and you have to spend 24 hours away from your home. The service. Thank you for watching. 13. Synopsis.: Hello. Here we will summarize everything we learned in the previous chapter. What is a tourist? Tourist is someone who travels less than a year away from his permanent address with a minimum duration day. So he has to spend at least a nighttime way from his home. His purpose can be anything. It can be for recreation, she can be for fun, he can be for medical purposes. Anything. Traveler is someone who moves between different geographic locations from many purpose. Any duration. A visitor is a traveler who moves away from his permanent address. If he stays at least one night, then he became a tourist. And last but not least, trip is the period of a patient who spends to travel away from his permanent address and telehealth determine if it includes an overnight stay, then it became a tourist trip. All these definitions are helping us understand what kind of clients we may have in a location. For example, if location is very, very close to a big city, then usually it has one day visitors and doesn't have tourists called Whistling that location you can cope many touristic businesses. But it is not very wise to open something like an accommodation business. Because as we said, people will prefer to stay in the big city and visited for one day trips. And also with these definitions, what the standard is, more the statistics, as we said, usually the countries in order to boost the numbers, they're usually promoting the numbers of visitors they had, not the numbers of tourists. So if I am traveling to UK from Turkey, anti-stars in Germany, the gentleman is going to count me even if I step my foot in their portfolio 20 minutes as a visitor, because technically I am a visitor in Germany, even if I stay on it 20 minutes, but I'm not a tourist. So if you take better the statistics, the visitors are always mathematic higher than the tourist. And also you can see that a country or a city or location have a small number of tourists. For example, in 1 million, but close by they have an attraction that has 5 million visitors. This is the things that we are going to understand. For example, the Disney World is achieving more tourists that all the United States are not receiving as inbound tourist. But these numbers are visitors. Someone can visit the Disneyland many, many times you can visit ten times is considered as ten visits. It doesn't mean that they have ten tourist people stay in that area. If you have any questions, obviously, you can ask a question and I'm more than happy to answer. That's always. Thank you for watching. 14. The future of tourism.: To raise as one of the most important industries of the world can be paying nearly many things. We've seen many times new technologies to betray it into tourism field for the first time. For example, one of us or last time you've been physically to book a plane ticket in a travel agency, the vast majority of people haven't been in the less than years. Everything is happening online. To reason for was one of the first industries that adopted day. The net. Furthermore, to read was one of the first thing that season that they stop working with the COVID pandemic. And one of the first that this started again, tourism is so big and brought industry. We always evolve and asked for the future. We will see now in the following section the challenges, the opportunities, and the changes that may or may not happen in an industry as unique as a tourist man, by nature has to evolve. An obvious move forward sideways. Thank you for watching. 15. Tourism as a polluter.: First and most important reason we say big polluted and is responsible for some of the most polluted elements like flights and cruise ships. We said before that the non-dairy, to be a tourist, first, you need to be traveling. So what that means is that tourism involves movement. And for now at least movement means emissions. According to the most recent trends, people start considering then environmental impact. So with the current technology we have, we will have in the near future, cruises are going to be one of the heaviest polluters. Some promising findings about new fuels and new lighter materials. So many people are considering that the flights are not going to influence as much as they do now. But fortunately, cruises definitely are going to faint it silencing future if something that evolutionary does not discovered very, very soon. And that's always, thank you for watching. 16. Age limits, : We see a difference and actually an expansion in the age of people that they can travel. More and more young people, but also other aids groups now are traveling. As travel has unwieldy, be more accessible and universal form of recreation activity. The young demographics nowadays are traveling more than ever. The spear more languages that never have the will to travel more than ever. And similarly, people over 60 and not satisfied anymore with stereotypical crews and organize tours. And they have best physique than ever. There should be focused in the marketing strategies and adaptation of the companies who will often travel insurances and the biggest determinants of private business and local authorities shoot edit thing. The way to make this nation's more accessible to everyone, to young people, but also to all the people and the service. Thank you for watching. 17. Automatization.: In denotes see from my personal experience and motor automate it to this industry. But the new types of jobs, there are more and more automated check-in machines in airports, ports, in hotels. But there's still many people who are handling those jobs. But if we look at the macro tourism industry and the people who are working directly and indirectly in tourists, then yes, many of the jobs that exist nowadays will disappear or change in the near future. Let me give you some examples. An insight tool I had in a big airport in UK. The manager told me full of pride that they are years now, that they are not any mistakes in the management of the luggage as it's fully automated. Another example, the same area, the airport, is that you will notice that there are more and more vending machines at the airports now. But at the same time, on my last trip by shock people ordering food to be delivered to them as determined through applications like Uber Eats. So we are losing some jobs, but we're winning some others. Every of the last ten years before the COVID cases was a record year in online bookings of accommodation, but don't shove tours. But at the same time, we've had the record of downloads of self doors. The big traditional companies like Thomas Cook as a tour operator and Lonely Planet as a travel guide, publishers had reminded issues. But at the same time, we had a record of downloads, a width 12 travel guides. And the merits of companies like Airbnb is an industry that is not losing valid to people that work for it directly or indirectly. But it is an industry that is evolving, continuously sifting for every person that is losing his job in his printing company. There is another IT technician that is working in a tourism related application. It obviously it is sad that people are losing their jobs. But at the same time, the fact that many jobs or be creating bring think imbalance from the stereotype of the past that the main worker in the tourism industry is a charismatic, polite young person that talks many languages and can help us with everything we need in person. We have nowadays a desk person with accessibility to the latest news, trends and events. And this 24-seven, therefore us, that is not going to change soon. Now people tend to be more independent, but at the same time they want to have online 247 support. If there is an emergency. Some years ago, you use to call the travel agent that you used to know personally to book your restaurants in the area. Now, you can do your book in alone with some clicks through some applications like TripAdvisor or Airbnb. But still, if you have some questions, I'm going to contact with them and they're going to show you request your steel. You are communicated with a young charismatic person who speak many languages. And as always, thank you for watching. 18. Social Media.: Social media is going to create the destinations of the future, or at least indicate them. But we see as professionals in their field, is that we cannot predict the next trendy destinations. Simply because nowadays, the next destination is depending in the popularity they have in social media. I know that many people are ignoring those trends. But every year that passes is more and more clear that social media, I'm going to indicate the next destination and it's going to be catastrophic if people ignore it. We have examples of destinations that they exploded in popularity. This popularity was so high that they couldn't manage to cope with this. Popularity destinations became popular because they appear in Game of Thrones, for example, like Dubrovnik in gratia, or some places in Spain, or in Iceland and in Ireland, people who are working in the tourism failed in the two-degree industry, they should always be aware of the newest trends. Visual check what is moving in the social media. And they should finally realize the potential and the power of the social media. And as always, thank you for watching. 19. Seasonality and Climate Change.: More and more indicators are showing us every year that the tourist map is not going to stay the same because of climate change. I remember whenever steel in the university, we visited a travel seminar where the presenter was saying that the reverse, an absolute need for the sweets research to move some meters higher in order to ensure that they will offer some months per year with snow as the promise to their clients. Imagine that in a global scale, the summer season in Mediterranean countries already has a month per year more because they are distinctly now, you can have a summer experience in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey from May until October. And they estimate that soon, this is going to expand from May until November. It is absolutely crucial to be able to detect on time the new destinations that they're going to emit, or they're going to lose their popularity. And as always, thank you for watching. 20. Space/deep sea tourism.: The moment I am filming this video, space six has already sent the first official tourists into space. I don't have many things to add to this. As I remember years ago in the university, we consider space tourists as a funder. And now he said reality. So I'm just going to step back and I'm going to observe what is happening. But in this point, I need to mention that we also have the rise of deep work that exploration to region that is growing even more rapidly than space one. So take that the sequence iteration, thus old ways. Thank you for watching. 21. Synopsis,: Tour is going to evolve because this is what I always do, is one of the industries that always be able to adapt to the circumstances the maintains is challenging. Or you can say, threats that the industry is going to face. The fact that as an industry pollutes and pollutes a specific, one of the most popular segments of tourism. The cruises face big challenges in the near future where they're more lay industry will need to adapt to the broadening of the aids limit of the people who travel. Tourism is going to face. If I asked for employability. But not because machines are going to replace some people, but more because more jobs will be in the IT sector and the information provision related sector is similarly. Social media will indicate the destination, so they've shooter obviously, another very important factor that we indicate the next destinations would be the climate since the CIF there seasonality and then burn of this nation. And the last but not least, there is going to be bigger focused. The last frontiers that still we haven't conquered, the space and the deep-water. The salaries. Thank you for watching. 22. Introduction to tourism jobs.: There are countless statistics. They're trying to indicate how many people are working in the tourism industry, but the reality, I believe that is almost impossible. One of my favorite examples I use happening in a Greek island called Millers. That because it was facing an increased number of today's the last decade, they hire some extra police officers. Obviously, the police officer is not included in the statistics for the people who work in the tourism industry. But they're definitely worked in because of tourism. In the same island. There are many cars that they are to rent. So that means that they are months more guard technicians that inner man Island just to repair and conserve their cars that are there for the tourist. Huge. I didn't those technicians are not considered to raise workers even if they are working because of tourism. The list can be infinite if you think about it. If a destination hires one more extra doctor to cover the needs of the increased number of tourists. In my opinion, then this doctor is also a tourist worker or at least a worker that works because of tourism. Now, let's see an example that demonstrates what I just told you. And later we will see the most important statistics, the potential jobs and someone can find in the tourism industry some potential jobs that they're going to be created in the near future and the evolution of tourism. That's always thank you for watching. 23. An example.: Let's say that you live in a big city. And we are going to visit a popular destination for two days, satisfies around 300 kilometers away from your home. Let's see the people that benefit from your trip. First of all, you search information on a famous website like TripAdvisor. Before you travel, we have a big group of IT technician, a web developer, computer engineers, marketing specialists, that they work in some of the most famous travel-related websites with millions of visitors. And they did not consider working in tourism. After you found all the information you need, you will take your car and you will drive there. The way you will refuel your car in a gas station that was only created to cover the increased tourist flows to the area you are heading. Again, all the people who work there in the gas station, I mean, are not considered tourism workers. Then we have traffic, especially the weekends in the area you are going to visit. Municipal, they hire some more police officers, are now responsible for the traffic. And they only working because of tourism. And as you can guess, they are not considered tourism workers. Finally, you are in your hotel as the area now is facing a big tourism growth. You'll notice at your hotel, both the land next week and is planning to expand. All the architects, the engineers, the construction workers, the plumbers, electricians, quite going to work there. They have extra work because of tourism, but they're not considered reason workers. Inside the hotel. You finally meet the first of the people who are considered tourism workers, the receptionist, that will surprise you discover that now says token. One more extra foreign language than the last time you visit the place. There are specialized language scores for people who work in the tourism industry. And as you can guess again, they are not considered to reason workers. After you settled in your room, you decide that you want to have a walk in the city. And now that you are working in the city, you are a very, very happy because for the first time it looks very clean despite the increased number of tourists. That is because the city hired more people responsible to clean the streets, more vehicles to gather the garbage. Some new technicians for the new vehicles. They rent a new parking space, so they hire some security guards for it. Again, every one of these people that I mentioned, they are working because of the tude is not considered reason workers. After your work, you are now getting a little bit of hungry. And you are wondering if you are going to buy something from the supermarket or the new restaurant. Workers of the restaurants are considered tourism workers. But the people who worked in the supermarket know after you ate, you are now a little bit heavy. So you decide to take a taxi to your hotel. And again, as you can guess, a taxi driver is not considered tourism worker. Was a very general example to show you that if you are a professional in the tourism industry, do you understand that tourism is creating the dominance of jobs? There are very few industries in the planet that they have so broad variety of jobs that they're related to them. So it's very clear to understand, let's say, the core of tourism works or the works that they are peripheral to the tourism industry. Because as I mentioned, countless of people are working because of tourism. But in the statistics, only some people appear as tourists, workers. And that's always, thank you for watching. 24. Statistics.: As for the employability, usually the statistics that are involved in the tourist industry are considering tourists workers. Only the people who are working in transportation, accommodation, hospitality, and travel and to agencies. According to the United Nations worth traveled organization. Tourism industries include, as we said, accommodation, food and beverage, passenger transportation, travel agencies, and reservation services. And this is the main gap here, this category that says there, that actually can be anything. And we mentioned above. In order to understand the importance of tourism, the secretary of the World Tourism Organization, Europe, Poor Law leak gas weirdly announced in 2017 that one out of ten people in their board is directly or indirectly employed by tourism. This number equals approximately 2760 million people. In the sources. You will find the report that I put from the World Travel and tradition cancel with a full details in the newest that this sticks. And we are going to see how this employability change during the years of COVID, how was before, and how it's trying to recover. I know that I'm repeating myself, but strongly. I believe that people are not realizing the full potential and power of the tourism industry. To what I want to say after all this analysis is that there are some very, very obvious jobs in the tourism industry. But if you are open-minded enough, you can benefit from tourism by doing something nor the top abuse. And thus always thank you for watching. 25. Potential jobs. : Let's see now the jobs that everyone recognized as the tourism jobs. And who knows, maybe I give you the inspiration to seek a new career. According to the National Career Service of the UK government, the careers that you can follow in the tourism sector. Our airline pilot, aircraft pilot, co-pilot, first officer, captain, airport information assistant, cabin crew, flight attendant. Air Stewart. Errors to this cruise ships to carbon Stewart. Diverse fair grounds, worker hesitates. Officer, historic building officer listings, officer, hotel manager, guest house manager, hotel general manager, hotel porter, hotel receptionist, hotel room attendant, housekeeper, hotel housekeeper, housekeeping manager, head housekeeping manager. Interpreted in a museum, a system visitor experience, a system birth, operative, assistant, reserved representative, arriving holiday, send their manager, cranking center manager. A kin to his manager. Arriving holiday, leave their pony break-in leader, guide, say link instructor to manager, to risk guide, tourism information center, a system travel agency manager, travel manager, travel agency, system, travel agent, traveled consultant, consultant for travel agents, called xanthan for book in businesses consultant for leisure travel and customer serving businesses. Visitor attraction general manager. That is the official list of the UK government of their career. You can follow inside the tourism industry. But again, just remember that those are just the official jobs. And as we said, a million times, those jobs are just the peak of the iceberg. Asked for the tourism jobs and as always, thank you for watching. 26. The evolution of the tourism industry.: From my personal experience, the last years, I see a big increase in jobs in tourism like professional photographers, especially the ones who specialized in social media, like photography, specialized in Instagram photos, and the ones that they can use drones. Furthermore, the last years, you can see whoever actually works in tourism can see a tremendous increase in travel insurances, especially now with COVID. You can imagine how many people now are using travel insurances. As we mentioned above, also very important is the influence and marketing. So now, people who are responsible for the marketing campaigns of destination shortly when companies need to use influences is not mandatory. Obviously nothing is mandatory, but it's important to understand the power of these people they have as a marketing tool. Another very big increase that I'm not missing the last year is that many moles destination managing organization and private companies like the big hotels are hiring sustainability consultants. People, you may argue that they're using green wash. But some businesses have realized the importance of sustainability. And now finally, they are hiring specialized personnel to consult them. I mentioned many times that tourism is a very fluid industry and the industry that always involved. One of my favorite examples is when I started Studying to risk management in 2010, Airbnb was an unknown company, only two years old. 2010 was the same year that Instagram was created. And when I feel is my degree, the whole industry was it total different? There'll be nb. Now one of the biggest companies in the area. And you cannot imagine your work without Instagram. As we said before 2020, young people almost never thought to buy private insurance is, and now is one of the first things they are doing. As a person that I have studied law to have a diploma, but Celera master. I have worked in many values fields inside the tourist industry, have worked in my country. I have vocab road, now I'm living abroad. I have created my own company. I am teaching about tourists. I can guarantee you that too, is an industry that if you are not flexible, you are going to stagnate it. Because tourism always involve, obviously, there are exceptions. There are some professions like being a pilot that is not going to change. And it was the same ten years ago and is going to be the same ten years later. Obviously some new equipment may work, but techniques is the same and the education is the same. But except of these very, very few professions, All the rest are evolving. For example, the reception is now learning how to operate automatic machines in order to scan passports, to scan COVID permissions. Now that using some months, more tools that five years ago to her guides like myself, they are following the latest news in order to engage clients within newest technologies like emerging technologies. Now, you can see some tools they are using VR, virtual reality, and that's just the beginning. Accommodation owners. Now I'm learning how to use robots to clean like the automatic mobs. They're using smart locus, the using an automatic messages to respond to their clients. Things that, again, five years ago, it was just a fantasy. The people who work in the food and beverage industry now are following the trends of the period than they are adapting. Now, you can fight this getArea and menu's vegetarian venues, vegan menu's, and much, much smarter. Whatever career you would like to choose inside the tourism industry or wherever profession you want to have that is going to be direct or indirect in the tourism industry. You will need to accept that you have to evolve. You will have to always try to improve. You always have to follow the trends, the newest updates, and trust me, you will also evolve as a person. And as always, thank you for watching. 27. Introduction to the main companies. : Now we are going to get a deeper look inside some of the most famous and influence and companies in the field of the tourists and the travel industry. As we said before, if you would like to work or if you are working, if you studied or if you are studying. Or just general curious about the two reason for the travel industry, you will need to know at least some of the major companies. I tried to include, as I said, the companies that opened new fields. And even in some cases they became the synonym of traveling, or in some cases, booking a plane ticket or a hotel room. And as always, thank you for watching. 28. Airbnb.: Airbnb is not even an adult. What I mean is that it was a company that created just in 2008, already has become the synonym of booking accommodation. That is not a hotel. It started with three friends that wanted to add some matrices in the living room and random per night and became the accommodation giant that is nowadays not there to better understand the size and the significance of Airbnb is better to share with you some statistics that exist in their official website. In order to understand how big is anybody me, I'm going to give you some examples. According to their website, they have 5.6 million listings worldwide. As for the date, June 20th, 21, they have appearance in 100 thousand cities. Again until June 30th, 2021, they have appearance in 220 countries. And for me the most crazy of all the facts, and they have almost a billion of MBB guest arrivals old time. Their websites and say that I have 900 million. But this is one year ago. For the March 31st, 2021, MBB had 4 million hosts. 4 million people make an additional link and some of them their main income from Airbnb. In total, the host from the beginning of the company, they have 10, $110 billion. The average that the horse or ending are almost $10 thousand per year and 9.6, to be more precise, I strongly believe that we haven't see all the potential of Airbnb. It's still a very young company that is always expanding through investments and acquisitions. Recently, airbnb created the Airbnb experiences that they offer, tools, cooking classes, and other activities. During the years of the face Cannon death of COVID, they create online experiences. Airbnb descent company that is always adapting and is still very young to see its full potential. But definitely Airbnb is a company that is worth our attention. And if we are working, studying on related to tourism, we need to have a closer look to that company. And that's always thank you for watching. 29. Booking.com: Above, we discussed that Airbnb became the synonym of booking accommodation. That is not the hotel, but Booking.com on the other side is a synonym of booking hotels. Booking.com was create the thing Netherlands in 1996. We have to agree that they chose the perfect name for the company. It is the dominant company. As for hotel room bookings, their website has a massive 28.5 million listings in almost 150 thousand destinations in 228 countries, at least in the year 2019, I guess now their model. And also the year 2018, we don't count the years of COVID of 2021. Consumers booked more than 840 million room 19 accommodation, 77 million days, and 7 million airplane tickets using websites owned by the Booking Holdings. So as we said before, Airbnb now is expanding to Airbnb experiences. Booking.com also now is a very big company that offers everything from to book your hotel, to book your book, your airplane ticket, almost everything you need. One of the biggest companies in the tourism field, one of the biggest companies in general. That's always thank you for watching. 30. The oriental land.: The next company we are going to talk about comes from Japan. They oriented Land company is one of the biggest recreation and companies in the world. Originated, as we said in Japan. It is the company behind the temperature of this name, Japan. And they own and operate the Tokyo Disneyland hotels. The Tokyo Disney see hotel Mira Costa, the Tokyo Disney Celebration hotel that Disney soaps shopping malls. Cdma complex, monorail is that move between the properties, concert halls, values, or their hotels, except the ones that related with this knee is one of these companies that people from Europe and not very aware of. But it's one of the biggest companies related to the world. And if you are interesting, in the Japanese market or in January and in the Asian market, definitely, you should check very end of lung company and the service. Thank you for watching. 31. Marriot.: Mariotti and the national is going to celebrate soon as century as it was founded in 1927. When we talk about Marriott International, we're actually talking about the biggest hotel saying of the world with more than 30 brands and more than 7,500 properties, around 2 thousand. And the random by the company itself and the rest from third parties. When you see this number, you wouldn't believe that this giant started by a soft drink stand in Washington DC. It is very difficult to visit and major tourist destination all around the world and not find the hotel that belongs to the Marriott International Group. If you're familiar with any of those names, then guess that they are hotels that belonged to Marriott International. Those names are the Ritz-Carlton Hotel send results. The Luxe collection set out on hotels and results. And obviously the countless hotels that they have the word Mario inside their name, as it is one of the biggest companies of the world. They obviously have a very big amount of clients. And one of the most famous loyalty programs that they exist in general, not only detachment history. As always. Thank you for watching. 32. Southwest Airlines.: In just 50 years, Southwest Airlines have become the biggest low cost airline in the world and the biggest airline for passengers number in the United States of America located in Dallas, Texas. Southwest Airlines have 121 destinations inside the US and around ten to other countries, mainly to Mexico, Central American, Caribbean. It is one of the companies with the most growing number of customers in their board. And is worth to mention that from the 72 million passengers in 2 thousand, they manage to read the record number in 2018 with 163 million passengers. Here. Again, it is worth mentioning that the southwest Airlines was the inspiration for all the other low cost airlines that the meds all around the world. Like sharing Europe, the easyJet and their IML, and lie on air, indigo and not just started in Australia and Valadez in Mexico. As we said in the introduction in this chapter, not only we are going to talk about the biggest companies inside the tourism industry, but we are going to talk about some companies that they pave the way that we're totally innovators. They were just discovered a new way for us, not only to travel but to experience tourism in general. And Southwest Airlines was the face that create the concept of low cost airlines. It doesn't matter if you'd like it or not. As I always say, we can appreciate that influence how they change the whole tourism industry under service. Thank you for watching. 33. Carnival Cruises.: When we are talking about the Carnival Cruises, we're talking about one of the biggest companies of the world. And not only the tourism sector, but in general, they only fleet of almost 100 vessels, as you can imagine, is more than the national fleet of many countries. From their official corporate report, they announced that with a fleet of 87 ships visiting over 7000 ports around the world and totaling 223 thousand. Lower Beth's. A total of 16 new seats are scheduled to be delivered to the Carnival Corporation brands through 2025. Carnival Corporation employee said, talented, passionate, and diverse workforce of over 150 thousand people from nearly 150 countries. And these brands host nearly 13 million guests annually. Here, for me, the most important, accounting for nearly half of all the overall global growth market. So you guys, you can imagine we are talking about one company that is literally have a whole segment of tourism. On average. They have 225 thousand daily cruise gas and 100 thousand seabirds employees. More than 325 thousand people are selling abroad with a cannibal cooperation fleet every single day, totaling about 85 million passengers cruise days a year. As you can imagine, can evaluate Croesus is one of the most important companies in general. You can see how many people live, their employees and how influential it is. That's why in companies like that, we hope to see the potential changes that they're going to make our future a little bit better. As we said before, cruise ships are considering one of the biggest polluters. So if one company, let's say the Carnival Cruises, that is literally half of the market change, then everyone else is going to change. The bigger the company, the biggest responsibility to conclude, Carnival Cruises is not just a big company inside the tourism sector, but one of the biggest and most influential companies worldwide in all the sectors. Because you can imagine the influence that the company has when they employees hundreds of thousands of people from literally hundreds of countries. And as we said, if this growth, this power that they have is not necessarily bad. Because if Carnival Cruises saints to a more sustainable future, then obviously everyone else is going to be forced to change. That's always thank you for watching. 34. Expedia.: Expedia was created the same year as Booking.com in 1996, and it was born inside Microsoft. In reality, Expedia was created in 1994, but as a traveling guide in the form of a CD ROM, and it was supposed to be a service of Microsoft in 1999, Microsoft span of the company. So it became public as we know it today. That is also considered one of the biggest mistakes of Microsoft. Pdm brought many acquisitions like Trivago.com, Travelocity, Orbitz, and HomeAway unknown. So with a combination of many expansions, had the continuous growth in the market value. And from the 15 billion of 2005, we did the 107 million in 2020. Obviously those numbers, as you will realize, make expedient not only one of the biggest companies inside the tourism and travel market, but as I'm usually repeating in this chapter, one of the biggest companies in general. There's always thank you for watching. 35. Tirip.com: The trip.com is the unquestionable leader in the Chinese market of travel companies. It was creating in 1999 and very soon became the biggest Chinese travel agent. And I hope that you understand what that means. They own many companies that all of us, even outside of saying that we use when we are going to travel like skies candidate, pile.com. According to the ports of the company, they have 400 million members fled connection to more than 200 this dimension. And the national character in 247 English support. You're going to understand three.com is becoming a major player in the world traveler market. And very, very soon we are going to see that next moves and they're going to have an incredible impact. Service. Thank you for watching. 36. TUI.com: Do we group is the European leader in the travel market and it will celebrate soon. There are bunch century. It started as a mining company in the decade of the sixties and seventies, became one of the biggest rival companies in the world with many divisions like airlines, crusades, and the hotels. They own many physical travel agencies around Europe. 400 hotels, fleet of more than a 100 airplanes in 60 cruise ship. I hope you understand the size of this company. Until the year 2020, they had an average of 30 million clients and 70 thousand employees. Is one of the finest examples of tourist companies that represent the alone, a whole value chain. That means that the client can book the tickets, travel with aeroplanes of three, stay in the coattails of tweak it inside the hotels off duty and entertain in the cruise ships are in the hotel during the holidays. And as you understand, this is like a circle from the moment they decide they want to travel, all the money they're going to spend and take the moment they return back home, is staying inside. The companies. Ask for companies that they represent a whole value chain is one of the finest examples. As always, thank you for watching. 37. Disney.: Walt Disney is not a name that comes to the mind of people when they think about tools, companies. But we are talking about the company that owns the biggest result in the world, the Walt Disney World in Florida, with more than 50 million visitors. I mean, 5050 million visitors is amazing. In order to make it more clear, we're talking about the theme park that has the size of San Francisco. Furthermore, Disney owns many theme parks around the world with millions of visitors. But I cannot provide you with a number. As this knee doesn't say all the statistics. Now, we are talking about a company that also owns their own cruise line that has around 2% of the total market value. They have collaboration with National Geographic and is called National Geographic expeditions. And they have their own organized travel packages around the world call adventures by Disney. These needs, unlike all the other companies we saw here, is not the travel company by the highest travel segment. He says The Guardian compliment that has everything from Studio's film productions on so many companies. One of the segments inside the whole giant that is called this is the tourist segment. But obviously as you're gonna understand the size of this company, even if they have a tiny segment inside the structure that is a tourism and make it one of the biggest players inside the tourism industry. And the service. Thank you for watching. 38. Conclusion, : It doesn't matter if you like any of the companies we talked about. But if you are interested in the tourism industry, you cannot think NOR them, many people does not realize that some of those companies are just a couple of years and we change an industry forever. Some other are here for almost a century. Airbnb is accused that is responsible for the rent prices in many places around the world. But at the same time, it makes travelling easier than ever. Now, people in many areas around the world found the crucial extra income. Booking.com is accused by the European Union as it is so big that it can potentially create monopolies. But now, Booking.com is a guaranteeing way for us to book hotels or cars or tickets. Similarly to Expedia Group, with the guidance that we are going to receive a service. Many people similarly believed that the two practices to keep the value chain a dominantly inside their company doesn't benefit any of the local communities. Southwest and lines and in general, low cost airlines are I choose that they don't respect their clients. And also they have favored some locations that offer them some benefits. And in many cases under the table, in order to choose them as the airport of choice. Trip.com and Marriott International are also used in many cases for monopoly practices. Carnival Cruises and the World Disney cruises that we talked about, are I choose to be some of the biggest polluters in the world, not just inside the tourism industry. Furthermore, many of those companies seem to be responsible for removing authenticity out of a tourist product acquisition. So again, you do not have to like any of those companies, but also you cannot ignore them as they represent. The majority of the travel and tourism market. Companies are changing. And in general, many companies and tending more environmental friendly tourism industry is so big that any of these changes are going to be visible. Me personally, I'm a very positive person and especially in very positive above the tourism industry. As stories ministry was a pioneer in the Internet transition. And travel agencies became the most popular example of a service that became available online. Like the hotel bookings are like the head of tickets booking. Now it's almost impossible to think that someone is going physically to book his tickets. So I didn't tourism industry will be the pioneer into the green transaction for that, I am sure. But all those companies have been also paying nears. And great examples in many sectors like equality, Fed rate, cultural respect. Their leaders, like the companies we talk above, became the bright examples that everyone will try to copy them. Imagine, for example, if Marriott International became carbon-neutral is going to be min game, almost all the hotel changes are going to copy them. Similarly, if carnival, Southwest invest in new technologies, for example, in fuels or new kinds of motors, that everyone is going to copy them because they are gigantic. And obviously the people are going to choose them and they're going to increase. So in this case, the competition isn't beneficial factor. In order to keep the optimistic point of view. In my opinion, the size of all those companies can be the solution for the future of the tourism industry. That's always thank you for watching. 39. Introduction to useful statistics. : In the following chapter, we will see some very interesting data that will give you a more clear view of the tourism industry. We will see and we will talk about the most popular attractions or the continuing that attract more visitors and tourists, or even the cities and the countries. And you're going to realize the unbelievable amount of visitors in the layer tracked. In the first place. As we mentioned, we have Walt Disney attractions with the amazing number of 155,000,991 thousand visitors. So almost double as the country with the most visitors. With many reserves around the world. In the third position, we have ACDP parts of China with almost 54 million properties with the most famous attractions, the Happy Valley. I'm using Manpacks, conquer group, splint detained for violets, window of the world and the OCT East in the fourth position. And the one that looks more like this. We have the universal parks and results with 51 million visitors like Disney, as we said. They have amusement parks not only in one continent, in University of studios. They have in Hollywood, obviously Universal Studios in Florida. And they have Universal Studios in Japan, Universal Studios, Universal Studios in Beijing. And all of those studios have attractions. Dimension or hold this. Five top corporations in the City of their amusement parks are attracting minimum 50 million visitors. And the top one, the Disney Corporation, and attracting more than 155 million. So we are talking about numbers that literally there are close to the population of continents. Obviously you understand the portents of these companies, the partners of these companies internally as for profits, but by using these companies that they attract so many tourists and visitors can have access to amazing data. You can see the newest trends if you can see the preference of people. So it's very important for those companies that they attract so big amongst visitors, not only for the profit, but to collect data, to see meets attractions, they attract more people. Obviously as two cases, we are talking about film studios, the Disneyland, the universal. They can see responding potentially needs a reboot, which one potentially needs a sequel or a continuation, or the opposite. They can take willingness of the visitors to visit one specific or attraction. We're not going to continue anymore. I mean, they're not going to invest more money in this concept and numerator. So obviously, this segment of two risks is super important. You can see here the integration of other companies like film studios inside the area of two reasons. And how gigantic industries can work together. And they can create attractions that literally the magnets for hundreds of millions of people. As always. Thank you for watching. 42. Conclusion.: After completing this chapter, is becoming more clear that some artificial attractions like think buttocks, are attracting in total more visitors than the top two countries. As for number of visitations. And to make it a little bit more clear, the thing parts of Disneyland attracting almost more visitors than France and Spain together, asked for the continents. That is a clear dominance of Europe. But as a city visitation, we have very clear dominance aphasia. But don't forget what we mentioned in the chapter or both. About to reason that it's a very fluid industry, this number may change in the relatively close future. Until then, let's hope that we will manage to visit as many places as possible. And more and more places are going to get benefit through sustainable development. And more and more people are going to get benefit from tourism in general. And as always, thank you for watching. 43. Class Summary. : In the chapter sub both, I attempted to provide you with a full in-depth analysis of the tourism industry. What I wanted to demonstrate is the true size of this industry and how influenza it is. Or it may become. For example, as we mentioned, if some of the companies in the tourism sector or some segments of tourists adopt some environmental friendly policies, then they may create a domino effect that they can potentially positively influential many more companies or sectors. As we mentioned, tourism is an umbrella term that under so many segments. And all of them are recorded important from a big hotel and then travel company to a small fast food stamp or raise more money st, office. Or from the person who cleans room to a financial director of Disney, or from the IT guy to the person who said sprint the traveling to disguise. It is a fascinating industry that is way too big in order to be in node. I hope after this course, you'll be able to sit through this in a different and more open-minded wave from an industry that includes some of the biggest, gigantic companies like Airbnb and Disney. The industry that brings 740 million visitors to Europe. I am part of this industry. I have studied work and now teaching about tourist. And seriously, if I had to do anything from the beginning, I will then go into change a single thing.
