Hey! I'm Thu, and I made it my mission to teach you how to capture beautiful photographs.

Two things that insprire me by far the most are the people I meet and the beauty I see when I'm traveling. Looking back it was only natural that  I would become a photographer one day.

However it wasn't always like that. I used to draw and paint as a kid, but ended up studying something "that I can fall back on" instead, because I've been told you can't make a living with art. But over the years I realized that I couldn't let go of my creative spirit.

Today I'm a freelance portrait and lifestyle photographer based in Madrid. However, just like most of us, I struggled in the beginning - I could see my photos ... See full profile

1. Introduction: to me, the greatest thing about the talk of the is to take a look at the most beautiful trades person. I like that in a photo. Now, the great news is that there s no such thing as an athletic person because everybody has something beautiful about them that can be highlighted in the photo. There are many ways to do that. You can use colors. You can use composition camera angles. In today's class, We're going to focus on how make a person look beautiful by directing Bend to Palace in a certain way. When I just started out as a photographer, I have no idea how to post people. So I would grab my camera, I would go out, and I would literally take photos off myself, using just a travel at my phone as a remote control. What that taught me is how certain camera angles and especially house of body poses. I let certain features off the body. I've been using these techniques. I'm sharing with you today for a couple of years now, and they were great, especially if you're working with someone that it's not a professional model. It doesn't really matter if you're pro photographer that has to direct people on a daily basis of shootings. Or maybe you just instagram boyfriend that wants to know how to take beautiful pictures off your girlfriend while traveling. If you want to know how to take beautiful pictures off people, then this closets with you. You could totally follow along. Just grab a camera or a smartphone, grab a friend and let's have some fun. I see you in the class. 2. Make People Look Their Best: the very first thing to keep in mind when posing somebody is to highlight the best features . So take a second tickets that back and observe what you like best about that person. For example, if you have someone with amazing hair, you might want to take a photo from slightly behind opposing them accordingly. If you're working with someone that has unique eyes, you might want to take a photo off them Wilken directly into the camera. Also try to predict watching Model wants to look like on the photo. For example, if you have a very small person, probably he or she wants to look told on the photo. On the other hand, if you have a very big person, you want to shoot from an angle that is flattering, and it makes them look slimmer. When Posey anybody you went off the outfit you're monetise wearing because it tells you a lot about the person, for example, had clients coming with big flowy dresses, so I knew they would appreciate if I took dramatic photos showing off the dress while once had a couple that came in a very casual outfit, so I knew they would probably not want to take cheesy pictures. Or if someone comes wearing several layers or they bring a few accessories. That's great. You can bring a lot of variety into the photos. I could go on and on by. The bottom line is you should know what you like about tomorrow what you want to highlight and also helps. If you know what Look, you're going before. 3. Posing the Face: no one accounts of the face. Believe it. I'm not. Many people have a favorite site off the face. If it don't that's great. It makes works so much easier. But if they do, I try to keep it in mind. I'm on a shooting. Always ask if they have a favorite site off the face, because in the end you can take a masa piece off a picture. If they don't like themselves on the picture, then what's the point? Right? Another good tip on taking a portrait is to shoot from 45 degree angle. For many people, this is the most flattering angle because you can actually see the shape and the contra off the face. So what I'd like to do is just classic a variety. I shoot from different angles, but I always make sure that I have photos from a 45 degree angle to whenever you're shooting a portrait straight on this Astra model to tell that it will look more natural because in our everyday life we barely have. I had perfectly straight. We usually tell them slightly to either side, so just tried out the next time. Usually portrait half the model. Tilt the head slightly, you will see the effect is very supple but noticeable. Now. This might sound a little weird, but it works really well. Astra Model to Chin Forward My feeling Weird It might also look a little weird from the profile, but if you're shooting from for insight from a 45 degree angle, what it does is a voice double chins. And it makes a long neck, which is usually very flattering on top off that if you're Astra Moto, also pull back the shoulders. It will create an even longer night, and it will help them to stand straight. So ask your model to change forward and pull the shoulders back. If you have ever taken a photo of a person before, you've probably noticed that most people become instantly awkward with looking into violence. That is completely normal because none of us, except for professional models, it's used to looking into the lens. Now this is a matter of taste, but I personally think it's totally okay if your model doesn't look directly into the lines on every picture. I always try to capture photos off my model bills, looking away from the list and include violence. But in the end, it's way better to have a photo off the looking away from the camera but natural. They're looking into the landslide awkward. It's easier for your mom to have something to look at. So instead off asking them, look to the right or looking left. You could say something like, Look at that tree over there from time to time. I like to add a little bit of humor with this, just to make my model smile, for example. Sometimes when I'm asking them all to look directly into the camera, I would say something like, Look into the lens and I'll pretend you actually like me. What happens is they immediately start to smile and I take a series of pictures and usually those look great. I once had a client. She had the habit to blank a lot. I mean a lot. So every time I took a photo of her, she would have her eyes closed. It what's really challenging? So what I did, Waas improvised. I asked her to close her eyes, and every time was going to take a picture of her. I counted to three and on street. She was supposed to open her eyes and look into the camera. Those were the only pictures I took off her with her eyes open. But I realize that this is actually a very good tick for shy people in general, because it usually takes a moment until you get awkward when you look into the lens. Usually that very first moment is still very natural. So if you have someone that's very tough because they instantly become awkward, will look into the camera, hath, um, calls the eyes count to three and on three, take the photo. Now this is great because it's just a tiny little detail that makes such a big difference. Astra model to squint Look at it this way. Whenever someone is smiling, I smiled to write, because if they don't smile along with the lifts, the smile looks fake. So if you want to take a picture of someone smiling, make sure that isis mining to however sometimes you don't want them all to smile. You want to take a serious picture. Now guess what the same thing happens. If the eyes are wide open, it looks fake. It looks like you're staring. So unless you want the model to look like a serial killer, ask them to switch it just a little bit. It will make a difference what you are doing. What your lips is equally effect ful as what you do with the ice, whether you are smiling, laughing whether your lives that open or close. All this has a huge effect on fish expression generally and opens my looks good on everybody and creates trust because that's just the natural way we smile. If you're smiling with your lips closed, it might look like you want to hide something like back teeth. For example, however, some people are very good at smiling with their lives close, and in fact, it might be even a little bit easier to fake close smile rather than a big one. This is why it's so important to get along with your model. Talk to them, make them feel good because ideally, your model doesn't have to force a smile. I mean, unless the person is an actor or a professional model, you can tell if this smile is fake again. If you want to take a serious look in picture, if you don't want him all to smile. The same rule still applies. Open lips look more natural than close lips. So if you want to monitor look serious still, ask them to slightly open them out and relax their face. You'll see it looks way more natural. 4. Posing Hands: you has a constantly moving Just take a minute and think about it there either gesturing, touching something, holding something hands up, barely ever enacted. Which is why it looks so unnatural on a photo to do nothing with your hands. The problem is, most of these things happen unconsciously. So when someone takes a photo, if you all of a sudden your leg, what am I supposed to do with my hands? The key here is to have your model interact with something. For example, you could half your mole interact with the environment with clothes, with another person with accessories off photo props. It doesn't really matter with what you can really get creative because it looks natural as long as the hands are being cut busy. Whenever you have a hand on a poetry, you want the hands to look very relaxed. For example, if you want your multi kind of hold the hat with the hands, you should direct them to not actually lean onto their hand. Instead, we only pretending with barely touching the face 5. Posing the Body: when it comes to posing the body. What I'm always looking for is to create shapes and angles and lines with the body. And the only way to do that is to separate the limbs from the body. You must come and also the easiest shapes to create with the body a straight lines and triangles No, you might think well. You can simply record model to put both hands on the hips like this. Right, Because there you go, you have to triangles. However, one thing you want to avoid when posing the body is symmetry. It kind of looks unnatural and very robotic. If someone is perfectly symmetrical now to stick to the example instead of directing your model to put both hands on the hips, you might want to ask your mother to just put one hand on the and also it might be a good idea to shift all the way to one side and to look the opposite side. That way you will be able to create a triangle. At the same time, you will avoid symmetry. Not only can you create lines and shape in the body, you can also create this aura decreed that you have to understand that everything that is closer to the camera looks bigger and longer, while everything that is far away from the camera a little smaller are to create that you will need a background, a photograph and a middle ground, or at least a background and foreground. That is the reason we love blurry backgrounds so much. A blurry background creates the impression that the background is very far away, thus making our subjects stand out. And also it minimalize distractions. Death is also the reason why before me around, pictures became so popular instagram years for talk of created death by having the mother stretched out the arm to watch the camera having the person stretched out. They aren't What's The camera makes the picture feel so three dimensional that we as viewers, have the impression we're almost standing right behind that person in the picture. Now, in fashion photography, it's very common to shoot from a lower angle that way, feed of a model close off the camera, and this creates the impression that the model is very long, lax and also creates the impression off debts. Let's be honest, we all tend to crouch down a little bit when sitting having a straight back. It's very important because if you don't have a straight back, it doesn't look very self confident. This is equally important in standing poses off course, but when sitting, we tend to forget about the street back. Another thing that is very important when your mother is sitting is to be able to see the legs and upper body because it's so easy to use parts of the body on camera when your mother is sitting. So what I like to do is I like to ask the model to turn the body away from the camera and also explained that turning the body away from the camera will make your legs look longer. Not only does this make your legs look longer, but all of a sudden you're awesome, able to see the upper body. So now that Imola sitting straight with the body turned away from the camera, you can go back and focus on creating lines and triangles. Generally, it's very important to avoid pressure and weight on legs and arms, especially when in modernist city, because when you're models sitting is very tempting for them. to shift the weight and put pressure on arms and legs. Let me explain. If you ask Ramallah to put one hand down, you should explain that were only pretending that we're not really putting pressure on the hands and arms. First of all, the arms should be separated from the body. If you press the arm against the body, the arms go to look flat and bigger and unflattering. But if you separate the arm from the body, all of a sudden they are becomes three dimensional again. Enslin Also, you want to avoid shifting the weight onto the hand. Ramallah is going to pull up the shoulders and lean into the post, and all of a sudden you won't be able to see the next anymore on a stick legs. If you press and legs onto the ground, they will look white if life again. But if you lift it up a little bit, all of a sudden they have shape again and they look smaller. Sometimes it happens that your model is posing in a way that you don't like at all, and you want to change the post now, Whatever you do, do not criticize because everything you say and do supposed to lift the mood and the South esteem often model. You can tell if a person is uncomfortable and nervous. If I want my model to change the post, I would never say something like that. Doesn't look good. Instead, I'd rather say something like, You know what? Let's try this out or I have this idea. Let's try that out or how we change it up in a little bit how we do this Instead, as soon as I see the post at night, I would take the picture and I would turn my camera around and show my client the picture so they know if they are doing great and they also know what looks good. 6.
