1. The Intro: Hello everyone. Thank you very much for clicking on this video by enslavers. And I am a fourth year medical student and part-time filmmaker during the last three years. And this filmmaking feel that created Canvas commercials for companies while also running a YouTube channel with more than $1.5 million US, which of course is centered again around product reviews. In other words, I know my stuff, but during this course in the filmmaking world, I always had a problem. I never had a filming studio and have a really small room. This is why I needed to find a way to turn my bedroom into a film studio, introducing bedroom commercial. Now, don't let the term bedroom commercial fool you to become Mercer's that we're going to learn how to create in this course, are going to look professional. And that's the beauty of it in this course right here I'm going to show you how to turn any bedroom into a professional looking filming Studio to create the force professional looking commercial. So trust me, when I say that this course is they'll be worth your time. And I'm going to see you in the first lesson will be the reanalyzing the year that you're going to need.
2. The Gear: Hello everyone. Thank you very much for joining me in the first lesson of this course, where we're going to be talking about the five main categories of gear that you're going to need in order to be able to shoot commercials in your bedroom. So again, the main categories of gear that you're going to need are five, a camera, lights, a lens, a table, and of course, a background. Now, in all of those five categories of gear, I'm going to be suggesting you the best value for money gear piece, as well as a completely free version of those gear pieces, again, in every single one of those categories. So I'm going to just use the best value for money camera and a free camera, the best value for money lens and a freelancer, the best value for money table. And every table, you get the point. So let's go. Now the first piece of gear that you're going to meet in Nordstrom commercials in your bedroom is of course, a camera. You can shoot a video with other camera after years of shooting outside in the field and testing different camera bodies, as well as countless of bedroom commercials. I am pretty comfortable in suggesting the current 200 d as the absolute best value for money camera body to buy right now, if we come down to a 100 D is a APS-C camera from cannon. And the price range at the moment from eBay is about $200, which is extremely cheap for what you're getting. The center of the cannon to a 100 D is a crop frame sensor from Canon. This camera actually has amazing low-light capabilities for its type body. But most importantly, it shoots 60 frames per second in 10 ADP full HD, which means that we can have slow motion in full high definition. Now if you don't want to go with this particular model that I'm suggesting you become to a 100 D, It's okay to go with literally any camera body that you want. It this could be Sahni, nick on literally anything, as long as it suits 1080, be at 60 frames per second. We're really going to need this slow motion full HD. Now, as you can imagine, the free version of the camera that I suggest is your phone. Now these days, mobile phones, as we all know, have amazing video capabilities. They have no problem in replacing a professional camera body in many occasions. Keep in mind that for these commercials we're going to be shooting in a controlled environment. So we have the ability to manipulate lights and make it easier for the center of the phone to capture things. Now if you're going to shoot with your phone, I actually suggest you to download some third party applications of EVD opportunity to manually control all the camera settings of your phone because this was actually help us play with the exposure and create scenes that are a bit more interesting on artistic, which clients loved. So this was pretty much it for the first category of gear that you're going to need the camera, again, I suggested you the best value for money camera, which is the Canon 230, as well as the free version, which is of course your phone. Now let's move to the second group is you're going to need a lens. As you can imagine, the lens that rests in front of your camera body plays a key role in the outcome of the video. Now based on the shooting conditions that we're going to need for these types of shoots with are actually controlled environments, shootings with known lighting conditions, known exposure for the camera. I believe that the best value for money lens that you're going to need is the 50 millimeter F1 0.8. Now, apart from being a legendary focal length due to its amazing value for money ratio, the 50 millimeter F 11 8 has two characteristics that we're actually looking for in these conditions are we shoot. The first key characteristic that we're looking for love this lens actually provides is a very low aperture, F12. It's actually very low arbitrary. And this gives us the opportunity to have this blurry background, as you can see right here, I'm actually shooting this video with a 50 millimeter F1 0.8. The second amazing characteristic that also comes from this great aperture that this lens has is amazing low-light capabilities. The 50 millimeter combined with the sensor of the canons of a 100, he makes an amazing beginners Keith, which acts great in low light situations. And this is exactly what we're looking for in these types of shoots. Now the free version of a lens, of course, no lens is actually free, but the free version of a lens could be considered as the kit lens that comes when you buy a body, for example, when you buy the kind of a 100 deep the kit lens that comes with it is 18 to 55 millimeter. I think F3, 0.4 to 5.8. If you decide to go with a full frame body and upgrade from APS-C sensor to the kit lens that will come with your camera is usually a 27 to 70 millimeter lens. Now, both of those kit lenses that I described get the job done right. It's okay to shoot with those good lenses. It's not a deal breaker. The only problems that compared with the 50 millimeter, if 1.8 that I suggested, they won't generate that much of a blurry background. And of course they're going to have a bit worst low-light performance. If you're okay with that van, we're ready to move to the third piece of gear that we're going to need to shoot commercials in our bedroom, which is the lights. Now some we argue that the lights are actually more important than the camera when we're shooting indoors, delights, help us manipulate the scene and actually drive the focus of the Euro in the places that we want the absolute best value for money lights to buy in order to commercials in your bedroom, our diffusion lights from Amazon. Now the price ranges of diffusion lights are from €30 of the 100 Euros. Even the cheapest diffusion lights will work perfectly with a camera digested so you don't have to spend the extra buck. They're me personally, I've been shooting YouTube videos, Skillshare courses, and many other things inside the house. And every working for the last three years with literally the cheapest diffusion lights that you can buy from Amazon. They work great, compact, and they get the job done. Now, the best free version of lighting that you can have for these types of shoots is the natural light from the sun. Now, the natural light from the Sun is considered to be one of the best quality lighting that you can have. But of course, it has some disadvantages. The first disadvantage of the sunlight is of course, the fact that if some clouds come in the way, they will alter the amount of light that comes into the camera sensor. And of course, they will decrease the exposure of our shoot. So we don't actually have what we would like to say, controlled shooting environment when we're shooting with direct sunlight. Now if your bedroom actually has a huge window and decided to shoot this bedroom commercial in a time of the year where you don't have that many clouds stopping the sunlight, then feel free to move on, of course, in or degrade the commercial in your bedroom, you're going to need a table, a table, the setup, the products, a table to focus the lights and the table, of course, to set up and focus the viewfinder of your camera. A table is, let's say the central part of the shoot and you shouldn't use anything fancy. Honestly, the cheapest table from, I don't know, a supermarket or a utility store would be great. I have a table that I bought for ten bucks, I think, from a utility store. And you don't have to stress about the color of the table or the material that it's built because we're going to cover it with our background. Now obviously the free version of a table is any surface that you have in your house, right? This could be a good and black, something like that. Just ask for permission from your family. And if you have secured, this table will read to move on in the fifth and final category of gear piece that you're going to need, which is a background. Now, the background is optional. I love to shoot commercials with backgrounds because it really feels like it's not shot in your bedroom. When I shoot bedroom commercials, I usually use a gray background with gives this industrial and professional look to the shoots. You can cut it and tape it in the floor and it's great for many users. Now, if you bought the lens that I suggested, the 50 millimeter, if 1.8 and you don't want to invest background, it's fine because as I said before, the 50 millimeter at 1.8 creates a very shallow depth of field and a blurry background. You're really going to have to choose in which one of the two you're going to invest in a lens that creates a blurry background or in a professional background, just like mine, honestly, I would probably go with the lens you've had to do the choice. Now that we have all our gear set, we are ready to start brainstorming the shoot that we want to achieve in this bedroom commercial.
3. The Brainstorming: So in the second lesson of the course, I'm going to guide you through my brainstorming process in order to create unique and interesting shots for a bedroom commercial. Now for the sake of this course, I'm going to make a commercial around Islam that I got right here. So of course I'm going to adapt my brainstorming process around this product. This is going to help both mean communicating the things that you should know and of course you to understand them better. Now the brainstorming method that I like to use is called circle and lines. And now according to the circle and line brainstorming method, you right at the middle of a paper, the key word that you want to brainstorm and then connect to this central circled word, literally anything that could be relevant to it. Now again, in my example of the folding book Lam, I'm going to write in the middle of the page folding book, lamp, and then connect any relevant words. Do it. For example, portable books, smooth, good-looking, wireless battery backdrop, geometry, literally anything that has to do with this product. Now as you can imagine, every single type of suit depends, of course, on the product that you're called to advertise. Of course, a food commercial willing to complete different shots from my commercial with the lamp. Now that being said, there are some standards shots that were much apply to every single category of commercials. But we're going to talk about these shots in the final lesson of this course. We're, we're focusing on the shooting aspect of the bedroom commercial. Another tip that I can give you in the brainstorming process is that you should not be afraid to be unique and be creative with your salt. Remember, uniqueness and creativeness is what is going to give this professional look to our commercial, which was in the bedroom. Now if you followed my circular lines brainstorming process by now you should have an interesting layered in the paper in front of you. And all we need to do now is convert this brainstorming paper into an actual shortlist. For those of you who don't know, a shot list is something like a shopping list for filmmakers. It is actually just a list that dictates all the shots are going to need to capture during the shooting process of our commercial. So let's now create our shortlist. First of all, again, commercial is different depending on the type of product that you want to advertise for this folding book lump right here, I decided to make my commercial about 10 seconds long. Now, as a rule of thumb is safe to say that you're going to need one shot for every single second of your commercial. So in my case, I'm going to need 10 different shots of the folding book Brooklyn. Now let's start creating the shot list. We first solve the commercial needs to be an establishing shot, a wider angle shot that lead the viewer know from the first, second of the commercial what he's being advertised. I also like to end the video with an establishing shot, also to remind the viewer what he has been advertised about. So start and end the shortlist with a establishing shot. Now if you take away the first and the last shot, the commercial, which as we said, are going to be to establishing salts, we're left with eight different shots to be as creative and as unique as we want to. Now in my case, I've got this book that opens and closes pretty smoothly. So I want to show this in my commercial. So I'm going to shoot in detail the book opening and closing. And I also want a top-down shot of the book, rotating this what I think is be creative and be unique. So I'm going to implement it in my commercial. Another thing that I can advise is to actually add the human element into your commercial. So set a camera into a driver and step inside your commercial. Add the human element because the viewer is going to feel more comfortable and more familiar when he sees a human using the product that he's being advertised about. So I'm going to add in the shot list another shot of me actually opening and closing and using this book lamb, sometimes declined by commercial, wants you to show a specific characteristic, for example, of the product that you're buying advertising. So in my case, I'm also going to include a sequence in my commercial where I demonstrate that the lamp is actually wireless, and this was pretty much it with the shortlist. Now after you're done with the shortlist, you're left with a very, very important part of the commercial, which is actually the selection of the correct song. Now as a rule of thumb, again, the song should match the tone of the product that you are advertising. So in my case, I'm going with a classy electronic AD's type B, again, to match the characteristics of this futuristic looking lamp, finding the correct zone for your commercial can be really time-consuming. So another tip that I can give you here is to definitely take inspiration from other people. Search for commercial that you feel that are pretty cool on YouTube. Shazam the songs, then look up the artists that produced the song. And maybe they have some other songs that are similar to the song that he was in those commercials. I have personally found this method to be very effective. So we completed the brainstorming process. We have a ready shortlist, a ready audio track to use on those shots. And I think that we can move in the third part of our bedroom commercial, which is actually setting up everything for the final shoot.
4. The Setup: So now it's time to set up everything and get ready for the final shoot in this lesson right here I'm going to show you the best setup layout that works for me. And I think that it is pretty doable for any room size. So let's switch to the other camera and start setting everything up. Now first we're going to start with a table. Keep in mind that the table is going to be the reference point of the shoot. And because everything is going to be shod, of course, in the table, I suggest you to place it in a central location of the room. As you can see, I have a pretty small room here, but the table fits perfectly in its center. I'm also using a very cheap table that I've bought from a local hardware store because as I explained in the first lesson, BigTable doesn't play key role in the shoe, so it doesn't have to be anything really fancy. After you've placed the table, make sure that the legs are sturdy so don't flip during the shoot. And we ready to move to the second part of the setup, which are the lights. Now as a rule of thumb, when lighting and it's shooting setup that involves a product, everything looks better when it's lit from above. To achieve this top-down light login, just going to Jerry rig my own diffused light in my bed. So it acts like a top-down like then I just connected with a power source with those two simple steps in five minutes, we have a perfect overhead light. Now of course, there are many ways to get creative with lights, but from personal experience, I can tell you that this overhead light setup produces the best tone and image holding your camera for the least amount of effort now that the lights are ready, let's go ahead and regard background. Now as the name suggests, the backgrounds should rest behind the table and behind, of course, the camera makes sure to leave a solid distance between the table and the background because this will create a better depth of field when shooting. Now of course, you can buy a professional rig to hang the background in the back, but in bedroom commercial fashion, we're going to generate everything. So I'm just going to place it in this book, which gets the job done. After you rolled the background down, cut a piece of it, and covered the table with the background. As you can imagine, this step is of course optional, but it really helps to sell the professor will effect that we're trying to achieve here. After you've covered the table with the background, go ahead and tape down the background in the back to the floor to prevent any unexpected movements. Now a quick side note here. Trust me that your life when shooting and when editing this commercial will become way, way easier if you have a set of background just like mine. Now, if you insist of not having a background in using your rooms backdrop as a background, I have to tip the Eigen help you here. First of all, make sure to add some prompts in your background that match the tone of the product. Again, we're drawn to sell this. You might as well clean your bedroom, add some things that have to do with the products that we're trying to advertise. In addition to that, they also suggest the use to the lens with a low opportunity to create this professional blurry background behind the product that is in-focus. Again, we're trying to make everything look more professional and this actually sells a more professional effect. Now we are ready with the background. Let's move to the camera. Now, the distance of the camera from the set depends of course, on the type of lens that you've dropped in front of your sensor. For this commercial, I'm using a 50 millimeter F1 0.8 lens, which is a pretty much normal mid-range lands. It is also the lens that I suggest doing the first lesson. And because most mid-range lenses have a similar focal length, you can follow my example on this one. Also remember that the placement of your camera depends on the type of shot that you want to achieve. As I mentioned in the previous lesson, I want to start the commercial with a establishing sought. So I'm going to place the camera further back to have a wider field of view when you're ready to place the camera mounted in a tribal or anywhere really that just keep it stable and check the viewfinder to make sure that your horizon is level a. Trust me, this will save you a massive amount of time in editing. If you don't have a tripod and you really don't want to set your camera down. You can just use your camera handheld while shooting slow motion as we can stabilize the shots in post-production. After you're done with the setup of the camera, we're ready to set up the product, of course, in the center of our suit. Now of course, the position of the product will change depending on the type of shot that you want to achieve. But again, as a rule of thumb, I like to always place the product in the center of the table to just find focus with my camera. Now some additional prompts that you may meet. Our first and foremost, 8 dot day bright duct is extremely useful in any type of suit. I always get reductive with me, even if I'm shooting outside in the field. And of course when I'm shooting inside where I like to cover any cable. And as we saw earlier in this video, I'm under the background in the floors using duct tape. Another broke that you may need, which is not actually a problem. It's more of a gear piece, is perhaps a microphone. If you don't have a microphone, as is just the first lesson of the scores. Amir phone and use voice recorder. But this will, in general help you capture some of the sound design and sound effects that are produced by a product that has a particular sound associated with it. Other additional probes are really anything that is related to the product that we're advertising and can be used in any of the shots. Again, I'm taking as an example my shoot that I'm shooting this folding book lamp. For this, I'm going to add it to my list, a pen and a piece of paper for the final establishing shot that I've said to end my commercial. So this was pretty much it when it comes to the setup of our filming space. Now, we're ready to move to the actual shoot of the commercial. The most fun part.
5. The shoot: So now we're ready to start shooting. Now that the setup is ready, we can start actually following the shots that we have in our shortlist with the first one, as we know that being a establishing shot for this, as you can see it here, I'm just setting my camera to suit in slow motion, so 10 ADP, 60 frames per second and just repeating the same movement again and again until they feel comfortable with the result. In addition to that, for the establishing shot, I also mounted the camera in V8 tribal and just recorded a 6 second clip in order to manipulate it in post-production, as I noted in the shortlist, the second cell of the commercial is going to be the book opening and closing. To achieve this shot actually mounted the camera just like we mounted the lights. So I have a top-down overhead rig with the camera found focus and just open the book in front of the lens. Again, the coolest part about all of these bedroom commercials. The fact that you can literally be the Filmer and V-star of the commercial. It is a one man show. Now also in the shortlist I've mentioned that I want to incorporate a top-down rotating shot of the product. But as I was shooting, I actually figured out that it would be better to have the product rotate relevantly camera rotate. And this exactly why as you can see right here, I've got a piece of duct tape and I stick it behind the folding book lamp to facilitate its rotation, as we will see in the next lesson where we're going to analyze it, the editing of the commercial. This turned out to be one of the coolest shots of the whole commercial. Next, I decided to film some details of the lamp. So again, I feel the top-down shot of the book, as well as some small details that would have been missed if I only used the establishing shot. Just that diversity in the video as we brainstormed in the brainstorming lesson, I decided that I actually wanted to incorporate a sequence where I show that this book was actually wireless. So I decided to combine the sequence that shows up the book lamp is wireless with the human factor that I also promised to put in the commercial into one shot. And for this, I also decided to change the background to have a separate set for this final shot. I decided that the best way to add the human element and actually showcase that the camera is wireless, is actually a setting of a study environment. So this y actually mounted the camera again in my overhead top rig and building a set of the study environment, I unpacked some of my notes from the previous year in med school, and again shot the small sequence of me opening the light and just placing it into the table standards of this final shot actually act as the final establishing shot of the commercial that I promised to deliver. Now that we have gathered all of the pieces of the puzzle of this commercial, we're actually going to assemble the puzzle in the next lesson, where we're going to be analyzing the editing process of this commercial.
6. The Editing: Welcome to the final lesson of the course where we're going to be analyzing the editing part of our commercial. Quick side note before this lesson begins, actually have a dedicated course on how to make your video edits look more professional in seven simple steps. So I'm not gonna get into much detail here because again, I have a complete course on this. Go ahead and check it. I highly encourage you to go ahead and check the scores. You can literally hack your way into making your videos look more professional if you listened to what I say in this course. So in this video here, I'm just going to analyze every shot and what it did in every shot to achieve this final edit. So first, let's watch the edit. Pretty cool. Ha, doesn't really feel like it was shot inside of my bedroom. I don't think so. So go and analyze each and every single one of the shots. I'm going to tell you the secrets behind them. So we start with this shot right here, and it is just the tripod shot actually that was shot, as I promised in the previous lesson, we had digital post-production manipulation in the shot. So I just keyframe there. You can see right here, the movement of the camera is steady. The cameras and a tripod and it just reframed a small zoom out. Moving on to the next shot, we don't have a transition in between there. I didn't transition with anything fancy, really basic top-down shot again with me playing with the book again and nothing really fancy up until this point, these things are very easy. And right at this point, right here, when the book opens, I decided to add a transition, the first transition of actually the commercial, a lightly transition. Now, things get pretty heavy here again, this is a lightly transition and transitions to this beautiful clip right here, which we shot actually with the duck. They just edit this video times 4 and blurred, as you can see right here, the middle bar, they blurred it. So we have this beautiful traditions. We'll see it. Again. I feel like this was the best shot of the whole commercial. I'm very pleased how this turned out. Now you can see right here we have a small lag than this because I actually combine the audio track and the visual part of the edit. Again, this is one of the biggest hacks that I mentioned in my other course, which I again highly encourage you to watch. The biggest life hack that I can give you is that you need to combine the music and the visual part of the edit. So I'm going ahead and unmute the track to see to show you what I'm talking about. Did you catch up right there or the drum kit? I just turn down the opacity of the clip and it acted like the drums actually shut down the visual part of the edit. Again, nothing, no transition here. And we move to the second sequence of the edit, which this sequence right here, just three clips. Clip showing with the beat three very basic lifting any top-down shot. Another clip just in the cap, the cameras on the driver in this clip, and again, a top-down shot of just the book lamb. So let's see how that looks. Again, pretty basic, nothing, nothing really crazy. But if we combined it with the music, Let's see home more professional. Looks like it looks like an eighties somatic, get it, and I just love it. Moving on again, the second sequence, just like the first sequence, shuts down with the beat. So we have an empty frame rate here. And then we move to the final sequence, which as we said, is the new setup, the study setup. So let's see how it looks. Again, three basic shots. The first shot, me just repairing the babies. I guess nothing really special. The glass, I'm just leaving the glass there to give a more student vibe. And finally I opened the book lamp, place it there. And it just added the logo of the company. A keyframe did to move just like the paper as you can see here. And then it just goes in the middle of the screen. And this basically is the commercial. How easy was that? How easy was that? And this brings us to the end of the scores. I hope that you find value in my savings. I hope that I've inspired some people to pursue this bedroom commercial thing. It sounds really funny to actually create commercials in her bedroom. But let's be honest here, as you may have noticed, most of the things that we covered in this course are really basic and literally anyone can implement it if you have a camera and some free time tried with any product that you have in your house, tried to create a 10 second commercial in your bedroom with this product. And if you actually keep practicing and keep creating commercials, you will become better. Remember, practice makes perfect. So I really hope you enjoyed this course and I highly recommend my other course where I teach you how to make your video edits look more professional in seven symbols steps. It is literally a 30-minute course. We're going to hack your way through the whole video editing world. So thank you very much for sticking with me for those previous lessons, and I'll see you in the next course.
