The more discipline you become easier your life and gets these courts appeals to us. And we know and believe that it's true. But somehow to really know whether discipline is something we can build. But it's the quality we are born with is a question for Don three, insanely beautiful and sweetheart. You know that discipline is what you need for success. You have the notion that being disciplined, it's very difficult to attain that devoid to a state of denial. Let me share some good news for people who are not born with them. They need to tell me what they don't know how to do. So in fact, if I wrote to speak of myself, I always had this belief earlier towards the discipline. It has a quality that binds me, kind of constraints me and it's something which is not made for a free-flowing course. But it wasn't my agreed denial of something which internally I knew what Internet for my success, but I kind of avoided. But over the years of studying to master human potential, strong one to achieve force new group from my guru by reading many self-help books, I realized that I was wrong. It's like without discipline you are left like an elephant who doesn't know to follow the correct registry, the PEPFAR, who can just go anywhere until I'm a hoot x controller controls and shifts his behaviors. This epidemic, your mind, is exactly that. And much more is waiting for you inside the discipline and self-control master gland. What are you waiting for? Let's begin the journey and break down self-discipline into the easiest of the understanding you have ever gone through with this fully animated masterclass. 2. Why discipline is important NOW?: Jim run once said, we must all suffer one of two things, the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. Throughout our life, we make choices as to how we need to suffer. We can either choose to struggle with the discomfort of shaping our willpower and behavior towards a better and greater ends or endure the regret of our dreams because we have chosen indulgence over resistance. Let's say at this moment I can either opt for recording myself discipline, masterclass, or I can engage in streaming my favorite TV series on Netflix. Researching for the course, recording the cost, scripting the costs, putting in animation, believe you me, my friend, It's a lot of pain and discomfort than just switching on a TV series on Netflix. But it's something that makes me contaminant and closer to my purpose of life along with the financial benefits it offers to me. It's not that you should not watch your favorite show, but it's important to understand what's the right thing at this moment. Discipline and self-control act as your guide in that to decide what exactly is the need of an art and what you need to do. Peter hooligans in his book, The Science of self-discipline says, Discipline is usually what keeps you from what you truly want, practicing it and having to build a certain level of pain. But so does the suffering, the consequences of a life without it. Having self-discipline and willpower requires the ability to do difficult or unpleasant things because those things are better for your well-being in the long run. That could mean resisting the temptation of a sugary snack, your favorite burger, or even waking up early in the morning for a jog. Whatever you think you need to accomplish. Discipline is a potent skill to have. The focus of this class is exactly that. To instill easy, simple ways to make discipline your best friend. Just like how the athlete warmed up and stretches muscles before release. Self-discipline and self-control are qualities to own. Now that you know, discipline is an important skill, in the next lesson, I'm going to share about the two voices in your head that decided a lot about how you act, behave, and how your self-discipline levels are. I'm sure learning that you'll be amazed, you'll be curious and you'll feel happy that this skill can be developed to maximize human potential. 3. The Two Voices: Welcome to this masterclass. In this lesson, I'm going to share about what you already know, but you may not have paid enough attention to. But it plays an important role in almost every decision you make in your life. And it's almost a daily tests of your self-control and discipline. What is that? It's the two voices in your head. That is the voice of intellect and the voice of mine. One voice that comes from the intellect says that waking up early is good in the morning. But the other voice from your mindsets a snooze for a bit. I'll start the morning scheduled from tomorrow. Let's rest for now. One voice from the intellect that says having an apple for a breakfast is good. But the other voice from your mind, which desire is a bulbar and that moment, one voice from the intellect that says smoking is bad for health. But the other voice from the mine that says, who cares? Let me do it this time. I'll think to quit it later. One voice from your intellect that says watching **** is not good, but the other voice from your mind that says, let's watch it and what will happen if I watch it once again, in almost every scenario of your life, you will find the two voices operating in your life. It's like there will always be a fight between your intellect and mind. And one of which dominates is how your live shapes out and what you follow the most. Let me share my personal story of how my mind dominated over the intellect. And I was attuned to the long bad habit of superstition. Unknowingly, I developed the habit of superstition where during my badminton matches I thought if I touch the baseline from my shoes, I'll be winning the match. Or if I touch the plastic side of the shuttled from an angle, I'll be scoring more. And this habit of superstition started from my badminton matches and stretched to almost every aspect of my life. It was like when I saw a speed breaker on the road, my mindset me to cross that faster by touching it, feeling that it will be good for me in my life. See how my mind was playing games with me. And I tend to always follow that, that unreasonable illogical thing which seems to have absolutely no effect on my result or how I'll be performing in a match or in my life. But still, I ended up foolishly following it because I was always listening to the voice of the mine, which was undisciplined, an untrained, instead of the voice of my intellect that knew it was a base listing, my superstitions have 0 correlations to my success. But still, I ended up doing it because the voice of my mind dominated over the intellect. I came to realize this later and it was really tough, breaking that bad habit. So the key point here is that your intellect, which is the good voice in your head, always directs you. It's like your guardian angel who guides you to the path of discipline and self-control, where you can become the master of your mind and your body. Your intellect shows you the path of discipline, the correct part that may be filled with unpleasantness or discomfort for the present moment, but it will always render long-term benefits. The voice of your mind will get you to thought to all the unhealthy pleasure is opting for whatever collectibles that comes your way. It's like your mind will be ruling you and you'll be the slave of your mind. The voice of your mind will want you to engage in instant gratification if your mind has not been trained well through the path of discipline. And I'm going to explain further how you can train your mind as part of the discipline strategy. So don't worry about that, but just gain this understanding at this moment. Remember that your intellect is the command or it's the king of your mind. And your mind is the follower of the intellect. Never let your follower dominate you. Identify which voiced or minutes for you. Pause and ask this question yourself. Is it the voice of intellect, or is it the voice of the mind? If it's for intellect, then that's a pointer that you are practicing discipline in your real life. But if it's the voice of the mind each time, every time, then possibly it's an indicator that you'll have to learn to bring in more discipline in your life for the accomplishments you want to achieve in your life. Now that you know that there are always two voices at play, it's also important to understand the willpower we all have that we use every day to practice, discipline and self-control. For you need willpower to distinguish between them. The most tempting option versus the most beneficial option. That and all about willpower in the execution of your self-control will be learning in the next lesson. 4. The Budgeted Willpower: Use it Wisely: Welcome to this masterclass. In this lesson, I'm going to share the principle of willpower. Unfortunately, this is not available in abundance for us, but it's the very basis for self-control and disciplining your decisions. Well, part is the part through which you reject the most tempting option for the right option, for the unpleasant, difficult thing at this moment. In a world filled with constant temptations using your willpower constantly will fatigue, your willpower, just like lifting weights do to your body muscles. The brain of a person who resists the donuts once is different from the brain of someone who has had to resist the donor. Ten tens. Exercising willpower consumes lot of your energy. This means that howsoever grid someone else willpower is if they are subject to constant temptations, they will eventually given. What does this mean? Let me share an example here. If you have decided that you are going to consume burgers from now in your breakfast for your following a healthy diet, of course, hopping onto the IJ or looking down in star stories are channels that shows you which cheeseburgers, great recipes or the ball goes, will only deplete your willpower and you'll eventually given to consume it irrespective of you choosing not to do so in the first place. It's like if you have decided to quit cigarettes and you're still keeping yourself in an environment of friends that smoke everyday. You're going out with them, having fun with them, but seeing them smoking and you're not smoking, it's challenging your willpower each time and it will stop you till the time it has the battery until your willpower eventually, given, it's like you're not going to the casino itself too risky or hard-earned cash then going there and trying to control your urges not to do it. The concept of budgeted willpower stands for exposing yourself to minimal temptations if you can do so. Exercising willpower on not buying chocolate at a superstore. It depletes less of it than resisting chocolate when you actually purchase it and bring it to your home. Eventually, seeing chocolate at home will increase the odds for you to give up your self-control and have it. Even though you know now that exercising self-control is beneficial, ultimately, the effective way of keeping up with discipline is by simply avoiding the situations that present strong temptations, like the chocolates or cookies at home, that you'll eventually end up consuming, even if you're resisting it for this, you know, at my work best, my mom used to keep sweets or chocolates for me even though she knew that I'm not fond of them. But eventually I end up having that in the coming days because every day I see it in front of me, my resistance works up to two to three days, but either I offer those chocolates to somebody else or I myself consumes it, but it's foreshore doesn't remain on my decks for longer than that. Rather than having to expand your energy resisting enticements, you can skip situation that offer temptations in the first place. Of course not at all situations you'll be aware of it at the first front, but in places where you know that you can do so try doing it because it really sees a lot of your willpower and energy to exercise self-control and discipline. Now that you are learning the very basis of discipline and self-control at the start of this masterclass, in the next lesson, I'm going to extend that learning by redefining **** for you and how we all go off our radar at various points in our life that I believe is going to open your mind to a whole new level. Let's join in that lesson before we really start to learn the easy strategies of building discipline and self-control in our life. 5. The Redefinition: Welcome to the discipline and self-control masterclass. In this lesson, I'm going to redefine last for you. Last dictionary meaning of it as they see is having a strong sexual desire for someone. But Lord Krishna undefined it differently while sharing his wisdom to urge Nina on the battlefield. On being asked the question by arena where us said that I'm not able to focus on what I have to do and my mind is getting restless and the press F4, I'm only going to kill my relatives in this war. Let me give a preview of the story here. There was a civil war called Mahabharata in the Indian literature where arena was a soldier leading a group and he was fighting against his own relatives who have been unethical than misdeeds like raping women and have been fallacious while ruling the kingdom. He thought he's only going to kill his own relatives in this better. And that really depressed him for he felt what was worth it to kill his own family members and cousins. He was perplexed, confused, and was demotivated and hence asked this question to Lord Krishna as saying, my mind is not under my control. It's getting restless. I'm having lots of unwanted thoughts. Lord Krishna then guided him saying that last is not only the sexual desires, but it's anything apart from your goal statement, apart from what you need to at that moment, he's straight away reboot or Jena saying that you are going to kill those who are already lifeless, who have lost their sense of wisdom and are unethical to the people at large. You as a soldier is not killing your relatives. You are the man who is standing for righteousness, who needs to stand for your people, for the justice that good should prevail, not that you get tempted to escape from them for their relatives. He went on to say that when we are under the influence of emotions and feelings as original voice, that's where we lose our discipline and tend to do things that are not right at that moment. We just think that watching one extra episode on Netflix will do nothing but those 60 minutes cumulatively for a month, you're actually trading off away from achieving the success you want in your life. We think that checking the mobile notification when the alarm sounds is only a one-minute thing. But opening notification, The engaging in talking with your friends who are online and then purchasing a good deal from Amazon. From there, you eventually end up doing 30 minutes of unwanted stuff that puts you off from your goal. It's the cumulative effect that manifests in months and EOS that puts you off from where you want to be. And last is exactly that. It's all the desires you have that outputting off from your goal statement and leading you to a path of indulgence and being in discipline. So do you have left? And if yes, those are the activities you need to derail from your life consciously because that is unknowingly putting you on a path to being indiscipline and engaging in self-indulgence. For now, reflect on the daily activities you do and check how often that activity is related to the goal you want to achieve. Once you are done with that, I'm going to share in the next lesson the test that you give every single time for self-control and discipline in your life. I'll also share a wonderful story depicting the two elements involved in the test. And once you get hold of it, then I'll start sharing with you ten easy strategies to imbibe in discipline and self-control to live a highly efficient and successful layer. Let's march forward. 6. Tests of Self-Control: Now that we have covered the biological basis of discipline phi, it's needed, it's very important for us to know where and what are the test where our discipline or self-control is tested? That's very important to know before we rarely match onto learning the strategies to build in discipline. Let me share with you the story here. To decode the two elements are the two tests you need to essentially pass to have more discipline and self-control in your life. Shook Maharishi was a son of a Greek king who was very respected. He was in his youth and his father wanted him to seek more learning and wisdom to understand the principles of how our kingdom is run and how a king needs to be. So he sent his son to his king friend in another city for he wanted his friend to teach him important lessons of life and kingship. He went to the new city, whereas father's friend was a king. But when he arrived that nobody took notice of him. Neither the gods welcomed him. He got inside the kingdom. Almost everybody knew him for he was the famous son of a great king himself, but nobody took notice of him. After three long days, the King's assistant scheme to receive him, welcomed him graciously in their luxurious room, Let him to beat in the best fragrances, but his response hardly changed even after those gracious greetings. He was the same in the deme nerve as it was before where nobody welcomed him. Once he met the king, the king told him that he has passed the test of comfort, which is one of the biggest tests when you are on the voyage of self-control, because your emotions and feelings are tested once you are not offered what you wish for or what you expect for all the luxuries you have been currently enjoying. Shoot Maharishi didn't get angry about not getting a bed for the first tree. These are nobody noticing him, even though he was the son of such a great king, he passed the test of comfort there. Then after that king welcomed him the next day when it was a full house where there were a lot of beautiful women in the palace. And the king wanted shoot Maharishi to take the glass of milk that was full to the brim. And he wanted him to circle around the kingdom with that full glass of milk. He started to circle that Kingdom, which was full of attraction a young men can fall prey to. And he did complete the whole circle without spilling a drop of milk. This was the test of his temptation. When he has passed this test and came to the king, the king said, Now you can go home as you have mastered your senses. It's the quality of a king to have self-control and discipline to rule the kingdom wisely. We are no less than a king if we have to be king like and have the qualities of a successful person. These are the two tests which we have to pass together. The first is the test of comfort, and second is the test of temptation. In a world that is filled with constant temptations. Now that you know the two tests, let me now start sharing with you ten super-easy strategies that you can use to pass these tests and bring the king like qualities of discipline and self-control within you to achieve the success you have always wanted to. So what are you waiting for? Let's march ahead. 7. Strategy 1 : Controlling the Indriyas: Welcome to this masterclass. In this lesson, I'm going to share the very first strategy to make discipline and self-control and important part of your life that you achieve the goals and success you have always desired for. The first strategy here is to control your interiors. In reality is a Hindi word, the English meaning of which is your senses. That means what you see through your eyes, what you hear from us, what you tease from your tongue, what you smell from your news, and what you feel from your skin. If you can control that, then you can master your senses. So the strategy here is to control your senses. You must be thinking why this is important or related to discipline. And if it is, How should I do that? Let me explain. Let's say you have a goal of losing your weight by ten pounds by the end of this month. For that, you have decided to follow a routine of waking up early in the morning and going for a run. After which you decided that you will eat a healthy breakfast failed with cereals and milk and possibly no junk in the entire day. Somehow continued this routine of disciplining yourself for three to four days. And after the three to four days, you kind of felt a loss in your steam engine. And at that moment, your friend called you to go out together for a coffee and you went during your drive to the cafe, you'll see a KFC because your phone of Burgos, you decided to stop by and have that Zynga immediately because you had this dopamine hit where you fail the t. So the last time you had the burger hair is where I want you to focus. You will again have a fight there between your voice of intellect and the voice of mind. Your intellect will say that it's not good for your goal to have a burger, but your mind that wants to sati at your tongue will say, let's have it. You have been following quite a diet for three to four days and you deserve it. Here is how the image of a KFC outlet that you have captured from your eyes and the taste birds which you have experienced before in your paths for a single burger, has what formed the contents of your mind to take action right now. And that is to stop your car right there without you knowing and realizing you have bugged already miles into your indiscipline path by stopping there. But, but still, the voice of your intellect will guide you. And here is when you have to take action to not have the burger because your hands are under your control and without you touching it, nobody can insert that burger into your mouth. That's the first step. You'll count or to overcome your desire. That desire which you had of having the world god is countered by our hands, not cooperating with your desire. That's your first step towards gaining control over your sense of taste. Unlike the Bogle, you will have many distractions in your life. For any goal you want to achieve. It could be an Instagram notification, the sound of which propels you through one of your senses, that is your E0 is to immediately check your mobile phone and see who has liked your posts. Doing that. You could have deviated from the important blog you were writing. It could be you reading a book on Kindle and you get a notification from a food app to order the sandwich, which you ordered and it got delivered within ten minutes. You had it an unknowingly you went on a path of in disciplining yourself for 30 to 60 minutes or maybe more, just through a pop-up that flashed up on your phone. It could be you watching a learning video on YouTube before you get an attractive add on YouTube that distracted you to continue the learning because you somehow saw something that aroused you. The effect is so subtle for these distractions that you feel there is nothing much which you'll lose. But this has a cumulative effect on, in disciplining you and achieving your goals on time. For all of these things you have fallen prey to, because your senses were not under your control and you fell prey to your temptations. The control mechanism of your senses acts like a regulator that guides your life, just like a regulator of a fan and EC controls their temperature. Similarly, the control of your senses regulates your life. How should you regulate your life and bringing your senses under control is a question to answer. Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita has shared wonderful wisdom to bring your senses under your control. He told it's very important as to what content you feed in through your senses, that is through ICOs and tongue. And he tells that the content should be purified context. What books you read, what songs you listen to, what movies you watch, what friends you keep company with are going to determine how you're consuming your mental food of thoughts and emotions, and what mental impressions you are going to create while doing that. If you keep hinging on Netflix horror movie for hours and hours, you are in disciplining your eyes and years away from your goal. Regulate your senses as to where and how you're keeping them exposed. If you're reading a book, make sure your phone is in silent mode or it's in a different room. You don't hear the sound. If you're on a date, make sure you don't watch a lot of videos on cookies of Burgos or food in general. If you find yourself deviating from your learning through ads on YouTube, purchase a premium subscription that is without ads so that you're not distracted. Other activities you do in inclination with the goal you want to achieve? Or are they outright opposite? Asked this question from yourself and practice regulating sensors in the right direction because the voice of intellect with will always guide you for a better path. But your mind, which is formed through the contents you have inserted, dine out through your eyes and ears will always try to dominate you and make you fall for instant gratification that will unknowingly lead you to the path of losing self-control and discipline. Now that you have learned a very important principle to invite discipline, that is to control your inner ear, that is your senses. It's now time for you to reflect on your life and just see what content you are exposing yourself to in your whole day. Is it positive? Is it negative news? Is it something that makes you act immediately? That's how you're going to manifest your whole day. If you can control the sense organs by disciplining them, you can make discipline your best friend. Controlling your senses and mastering them is the very first thing and the very important thing you need to look at to impart changes in your life. It will take time to master them, but little by little, you'll achieve it. And for those strategies you will learn in the course, we'll support you in doing that. So let's march forward to learn the second strategy for how you can discipline your life and make your goals closer to yourself. In reality. 8. Strategy 2 : The 10 Min Rule: Welcome to this masterclass and in this lesson I'm going to share a fairly easy second strategy that have taken from Peter HoloLens book The Science of discipline. It's called the ten minute rule. There are around a 100 billion neurons in our advanced brain. And it's pretty reasonable to think that we humans are superior decision-makers to any other living primates of the world. However, the study conducted in Harvard showed surprising results when they tested discipline for humans versus chimpanzees. What researchers did was they offered the two choices, the same choices. That is the two trips to humans and chimpanzees both and told him that if they wait for two minutes, they'll get six streets. The chimpanzees waited for 72% of the time, whereas humans only choose to wait for 19% of the time. Chimpanzees definitely are not smarter than us, but what cost is unreasonable decision-making on RN? The problem is we rationalize the bad behaviors that put us off for healthier outcomes in future. It's again, the voice of mine that dominates us to have things instantly instead of waiting for it. That's where this ten minute rule comes into the picture. If you want something, wait for at least ten minutes before you get it. If you have the audio of having a Bogle immediately when you get the pop-up notification, just wait for ten more minutes before you order it. By waiting for ten minutes, you're actually removing instant from instant gratification, thereby building discipline and improving you in your decision-making. Similarly, if you are not getting clients out of your sales calls and you want to quit doing it immediately because you are getting frustrated. Think ten more minutes. Because those ten minutes you're going to get calmer and believe you me, those ten minutes won't be easy for you. And once you pass that ten minutes barrier, still if you are having that urge, then you can give it. But for those ten minutes you have built a self-discipline muscle for you. You have given a chance to you to listen to the voice of your intellect, which then can help you to stay longer towards your goals and helps to achieve them. Sometimes we think it's the most necessary to take action at this moment. And most of the food business, discount business, the advantage of this urgency that lets you buy stuff and then later we regret it. It has happened many times in my life where I double paid for the doodle E subscription by clicking on the payment button twice just out of excitement and urgency through my credit card because it didn't show that the payment happened the first time. But clicking it twice within five to ten seconds has lead to losing my self-control, thereby deducting double payment from my account. Although the payments rewards when I contacted customer care during that peak moment, I lost my self-control and I had I learned the ten-minute rule, then I wouldn't have done it. I'm sure in your life also, there have been instances where you have thought you could have waited just a bit and things would have been better. Apply the second strategy, that is the ten minute rule in your life and see how much it improves you in your discipline journey. In the next lesson, I'm going to share another interesting strategy to help you in by the power of discipline and self-control. Let's deep dive into learning it. Now. 9. Strategy 3 : Urge Surfing: Welcome to this masterclass and in this lesson I'm going to share with you the third very interesting strategy to imbibe and the power of self-control and discipline in your life. The strategy is the ODE solving strategy given by lead psychologist Allan mallet. And that is one of the most accepted methodologies to reduce the power of urges and temptations, and hence to develop discipline, allergies or a strong desire or an employer that manifests in emotional and physical sensations in your body that could be triggered out of your past tendencies and habits. Like having an oath to smoke on seeing cigarettes or to have a burger on a drive-through while saying mcdonald's. This ODE solving technique, O'Jays, are compared to ocean waves that you serve over when they rise in intensity, when they peak and when they eventually crash. This technique is an exercise where it teaches you to resist temptations and embrace unpleasant emotions. It's very important here to understand that O'Jays are not you. Your thoughts at that moment are not you. They are just sensations that are occurring to you for a period of time, then they will eventually crash. You can also call urges the voice of your mind that is untrained at once you to go haywire to act instantly. Here is how you can apply this strategy. Think about the last time you have felt the urge. It could be today or yesterday or any other time in the last week. Pay attention to the sensations both emotional and physical that you experience in your body. Observed how these sensations evolved overtime. As you're observing this focus on your breath to help you right out of the urges. Imagining that these are waves and you are just so thing across them, not fighting with them. You know what our tendency is to fight urges that if that is if we quit a frequent or if you decide to quit smoking whenever the audio of smoking comes, we fight it not to have that urge. And therefore by fighting that urge, we are eventually creating more thoughts on smoking. It's just like if I say to you to not think of an elephant, you'll think of an elephant. Similarly for this, if you fight the urges, you'll get more thoughts about it. Rather, this strategy helps you to separate yourself from your urges. It's like a bird's eye view where you are watching the waves of OSes with your eyes closed, feeling the sensations and letting it be the way it is. Instead of thinking that I want a cigarette thing, that you have an urge of sacred. It's not a part of you that you need to fight, or rather a sensation that you experience and then let it pass. As it is said in the book of Beta HoloLens, the science of cell discipline. Fighting urges is really effective, is rarely effective, but curiously, observing urges without identifying with them, gives you much greater odds of overcoming them. Combine this technique with a ten minute rule and you'll observe magic in resisting your temptations and developing more self-control and more responsible for the actions you want to take in your life. Practicing this regularly will make you better at it and you'll eventually observe that your life is running according to the way you want, instead of it happening to you. Try this and let me know if it works for you. In the next lesson, I'm going to share another interesting strategy to build discipline that will help you master your life. 10. Strategy 4: Environment Design: Welcome to this masterclass and in this lesson I'm going to share another effective strategy to develop discipline. That is how you have designed the environment where you work and spend your most time in. Is it conducive for you towards the goals you have? Or is it counterproductive in this day and age where a person liking your picture on social media causes dopamine hits and instead pleasure. It's very easy to fall prey to it and deviate from what work you were invested in. Do you keep your phones on silent while you're working on an important project? Or do you study and at the same time get distracted by the concept notifications from your phone. It is said that on an average, we see our mobile screens 150 times a day. That means you're distracting yourself unknowingly 150 times, and hence thereby being on the path of indiscipline. It's such a mindless streaming that we do that we don't even realize. We don't plan that we'll spend to us tomorrow on Instagram. It just happens and somehow those two Rs remains unaccounted for and our days. And through the environment of distractions that we create for us. The environment here also refers to what kind of role models you have for yourself. Because those are the qualities you will develop within you. Is your rule model, your dad or mom, then you'll invite their qualities. If you are a role model is Ronaldo, you unknowingly, you are knowing more about football, more about winning and more about whatever quality he has in him, in his lay. The friends you keep, the partner you have all influence the kind of life you are going to lead and behaviors you will display. We all are social, low nose and V peak stuff from the society, either good or bad. When I was in 11th standard, I aspire to be the best student in the class. And so I followed one of my colleagues from the other section who was the topper in his section. You know, he has this strange habit of tinkering with his eyes every now and then, and unknowingly I copied that habit from him and I also indulged in tinkering my eyes. I know you must be laughing, but we all follow what a role model does. And it can be totally senseless at times as I did. But now my role model is Swami server pre Ananda. He is among and what I like about him is his absolute communists, his oratory skills, his patience, his discipline towards life, and that I wanted to bring into me. We all need a guiding light or forced to inspire us. Choose your mentor or role model wisely, because that's how you're going to design your internal or mental environment. If you are a role model, is a friend who is fond of greens and Ganges. Unknowingly you are bringing that quality within you. It's because of the environment that rehabilitation center tries. And patients, they're often say that they don't crave to have drugs there because the environment is not enticing you to get drugs. It's about the internal and external environment you keep yourself exposed to that will shape or develop the qualities of discipline or indiscipline within you. It is said that we are the average of five people we keep company with. So it's time for you to reflect on how is your internal and external environment. If it's not good and conducive to the goals you have, then possibly you have to make changes to what works for you. Apply this strategy and I'm sure it's going to work one dose to bring discipline in your life. In the next lesson, I'm going to share another amazing strategy that will help you discipline your life and will lead you one step closer to the dreams you have always been aspiring to achieve. 11. Strategy 5 : Delayed Gratification: Welcome to this masterclass and in this lesson I'm going to share another effective strategy to build discipline. And that is to delay instant gratification. That is to sacrifice immediate pleasurable rewards for a better and healthier future. Let me share a study to demonstrate this concept. The study was conducted by Philip Zimbardo in Stanford, where he tested the self-control levels among the kids and track their progress for 30 years where they have been done and what they have achieved in life. In his study, also famously known as the marshmallow experiment, he played a simple game with the kids, where each of those kids were kept in a small room with a single marshmallow in front of them. He told to each of them that he'll give them a marshmallow, but if they wait for 15 minutes, he'll give them to kids had an option that either they can have the marshmallow now or they can have two marshmallows after 15 minutes. Some of those kids tend to not see the marshmallow to avoid. But in the fifth minutes some kind of legged it but did not eat it. Some of those children immediately aided, but some of them ended up waiting till 15 minutes. For those who waited, he gave them a second marshmallow. But the result of this experiment was astounding in the long run. The researcher track the progress of these children and found that those who are able to resist the temptation of a marshmallow for 15 minutes and exert their self-control. They were found to be doing much better in life 30 years down the line. They had better SAT scores. Their teachers trusted them for their work and they were doing well in their careers. But those who immediately hide that marshmallow were found to become a bit restless in their life. Their relationships were turned off. Some of them even went to jail, and they were changing their careers and not finding stability with life. We face this constant struggle in our life to either indulgent immediate pleasure or take a greater future reward. Eating a cookie or eating an apple for a breakfast will not impact your health in one day, but over repeated it definitely will. If you are able to delay gratification, you are giving yourself that extra time to design your better future. And delayed gratification is the heart of building self-discipline. Some of the startups in the food industry or tech space like Amazon, Zomato thrives on delayed gratification where the owners generated Lord losses for five years or six years for the profits to come in later. In delaying gratification, you suffer now for a specific outcome later. And doing so requires mental toughness and pushing your boundaries. Whenever you deal instant gratification or instinct pleasurable rewards, you are practicing self-discipline because you are doing the most important work instead of falling off to a temptation. Fees this battle where my favorite player shop been bats for my country. And somehow at the same point in time, I have to write scripts for my courses or do any creative work. It's very tempting for me to watch him play and not work. But on the other side, it does deviate me from my goals, from what I'm supposed to do at the moment. You know, at times I have even sacrifice my work to watch him play. And that's how fans are like, right? Unfortunately, whenever I did that, he didn't play well or ended up scoring very low. But now I prioritize my work. Even if you please, I'll stop watching TV and focus on the work I have to do at that point in time. Believe me, guys, it is stuff but once you start delaying your instant gratification and falling over your temptations immediately, it will somehow feel that you're mastering your senses and you are in more control of your life. You will also observe that nobody will be able to falsely influence you for anything. That is the hidden power you're going to develop by delaying instant gratification. Delaying gratification is similar to eating vegetables first before a desert. I think that you are acting on behalf of your future self. And once you start doing this regularly, this will become your habit. And you'll feel that you are more in sync with your goals when you delay instant gratification, test it for yourself. Don't watch your favorite players play or watch the game of Thrones the minute it is released and see the sensations you have failed during that moment. Instead a datetime, write the blog you have ever wanted to. You'll observe that there is nothing much which you have lost after that. Instead, you will feel later that sacrificing that episode or a game has led you to be closer to your goal and be more disciplined towards your life. Apply this strategy for yourself in almost every temptation you fall prey to and you'll observe a mastery over you, over the restless voice of mine. In the next lesson, I'm going to share another super strategy that will help you build discipline in your life. So let's move forward. 12. Strategy 6 : The 40% Rule: Welcome to this master glass. And in this lesson I'm going to share other effective tactics OF US Navy Seals to build discipline in your life. Us Navy unit seals that stands for sea, air, and land are the people who are highly skilled, discipline, and capable. Becoming a seal requires extensive mental and physical training and many soldiers don't make it to the end who begin the training program. People who do finish the training program are said to be bodybuilders who are assigned to missions that endure extreme difficulties. The way they enhance their physical capabilities and maximize their human potential has led to the development of the famous 40% rule. 40% rule means whenever you feel exhausted or the voice of your mind saying that you can't do more physically or mentally. In reality, you have pushed yourself only 40% of the full capacity you have. When you think that you have reached your limit, you can still go and continue. But it basically depends on whether you believe it or not. When you have raised your 40%, it's the time when you have felt the first bit of pain, the heaviness of your legs where you are on a run. But to believe that it's the end will end it for you. It's again, the bad voice of mine trying to dominate over you. You're going to apply it to any stuff. Say you have a goal of getting fitter and you intend to do ten push-ups each day. And after the ninth push-up, you felt that you are done. Take a three minute break then and start doing it again. You will see that you have done ten more. Push yourself again and you'll be able to do it more. Believe me, that may sound harsh, but that's super true. We are not aware of the mental and physical capabilities we have within us. Whenever you are challenged with the problems of life and you are not able to accomplish your goals and you are on a voyage of giving up. Think that it's only 40% that you have invested by then. It's just the start of the paint, but you can still give more to your goals with your hard work and persistence. The thing is we have put our life in a lot of comfort. If you look at our ancestors, they had to hunt for food for every meal. And sometimes they didn't had food for D's. They have to work kilometers do their job. Even the posts or telegrams used to arrive in a week for them. But now with advancement in technologies, we can order food with a click of a button. We can send a message almost instantly. And if you are asked to fast for one day, we feel a threat to life. Whenever the next time you feel you're done and you're giving up on the goals decided for, remember, it's only 40% that you have done by now, manifests that 60% from you to stay on the path of discipline and achieve your goal because your goal deserves an absolute greater chance. I hope you liked this strategy. In the next lesson, I'm going to share another super effective strategy to build discipline that will help you achieve goals like never before. 13. Strategy 7: Goal Proximity: Welcome to this masterclass. I hope that you are really enjoying it. If not, I'll try more harder. In this lesson, I am going to share another interesting strategy that will help you stay on your gold and build more disciplined towards life. Their strategy is the principle of goal proximity. It states that the closer we get to the goal, the more effort and more disciplined we are to reach it. The classic example is of marathon runners who run the last mile faster than most of the miles proceeding it. Whereas theoretically runners should be slowest at the last mile of a marathon. This phenomenon was also tested by Clark Hall who observed on rats that they ran faster in the maze once they got closer to the food and once they can see the food, our brain works similarly in this, where if we feel that we are closer to the goal or do we have moved forward, we are more likely to be on the part to finish it. Generally, feelings like we haven't made any progress towards a goal can make us feel down, or perhaps make us feel that we are going nowhere. But if we infuse any progress, I call logically or artificially, we are more likely to be in the momentum to be disciplined and move closer to the goal. It is like if you can see the finish line, you're more likely to finish the run. How those benchmarks and clear sightings of the progress you are making towards your goal. If you have a goal of going on a jog two miles every day from tomorrow, setting off your alarm, then waking up early in the morning, putting on shoes is also the progress of 30%. Even if you don't complete your two miles run till the second week, count the little progress the checks you did for making 200 meters without break to stay motivated, emphasize how far away from starting from 0% you are and how close to 100% you have become. Try to have a checklist of tasks you need to go through days, months, or years to see the progress. Because once you see the progress, you'll stay discipline and motivated to finish it. I apply this strategy in my course creation where my task are divided between researching for the topic, writing the scripts, shooting the course, editing the costs, marketing the course. Each task and step consumes a lot of time, but still it's progress from 0, right? Accomplishing each of those tasks helps me to stay disciplined and design a full course. Apply this goal proximity strategy, where you divide your goals into four or five steps and every steps, fields and accomplishment. And that will keep you motivated and stay disciplined to achieve your goal. I hope you liked this strategy, apply it and see if it works for you. In the next lesson, I'm going to share another effective super strategy to build discipline. So let's deep dive into learning that. 14. Strategy 8: Parkinson's Law: Welcome to this masterclass. In this lesson, I'm going to share another interesting strategy that will help you stay on your goal and build more discipline towards life. This strategy is Parkinson's Law, which was developed by a British historian Cyril Parkinson, where he noticed a trend in civil service that as bureaucracy is expanded, their efficiency decreased instead of increased. So Parkinson's law stated that whatever deadline you give yourself, big or small, That's how long you will take to complete a task. If you give yourself a relaxed deadline, you avoid being disciplined. If you give yourself a tough or a tight deadline, you can draw on self-discipline. That's why you'll observe in a lot of areas like filing of our income tax, we're charging our mobile whale electricity bill, water bills, where you have a relaxed deadline. 90% of these tasks happen either on the last day or on the penalty mutase, even in submitting our assignments in my MBA days, if I recall, we did most of our work on the last day of the submission. My sister, she is currently pursuing MBA and she also finds herself finishing and doing most vocal four case studies on the last day of submission. We love procrastinating and whenever our mind gets a chance to be relaxed, it always will aught for this path, path because it's easy. When you give yourself more time you are, you'll somehow fill that time. But those feelings will be from a lot of unhealthy activities that really didn't contribute towards your goal. You could watch a movie in that go on a short vacation, play card games, but you will end up filling that extra time with these entertaining, indiscipline activities before you realize that you have a project to submit tomorrow, people work better with deadlines and if they are tight, 90% of the time, you will observe that the tasks are finished. In Parkinson's Law, he found that decreasing the available time for completing a task cause that task to become simpler, easier, and accomplished in a timely fashion. If you want to be highly efficient and more productive, apply artificial limitations on the time you give yourself to complete tasks because that will lead you to focus on the crucial elements of the task and finish it on time. It's important to recognize the tasks that are your discipline Raynaud's and this law focuses on that by setting realistic expectations so that you don't get exhausted, but at the same time accomplish your goals in a timely way. Remember, there could be a pain that we discussed earlier which may push you to the discomfort side that may tell you that you have less time, but that is just the 40 person you have given by then. It's the forest sign of pain and that's a part of discipline as we have learned. Apply this strategy, give yourself deadlines and you'll see that you are more disciplined in your task and accomplishing your goals. In the next lesson, I am going to share another super interesting strategy to build a discipline like never before. 15. Strategy 9 : Finish What You Start: Welcome to this masterclass. In this lesson, I'm going to share another interesting strategy that will help you stay on your goal and build more disciplined towards life. I would say that if you apply only this strategy and forget all the oboe strategies that I shared, then also you can give yourself a badge of a highly disciplined person in life. This strategy is very simple. It is to finish what you start. As simple as it sounds. Just finish what you start. This means if you are starting a book, finish it. If you are writing a blog, finish it. If you're watching a YouTube video or watching an study, finish it and watch the latest complete. You have absolutely no rooms to live in between, even though you're not liking the video or even if you're thinking that you are wasting your time, it means that what you made as their first choice of watching the video or reading the book. You have to go through and finish it. Not liking it in-between is okay, but surviving through it will carry that paint that this comes forward, but it will later make you more cautious towards choices you made in life. It really develop discipline in you towards what is good for you and what is not. And it will highly improve your decision-making, which is a crucial part while building self-control and discipline Maslow within you. Try this strategy from morning to night and whatever task you do, starting from you sleeping in your beautiful cozy bed to making your bed the next morning, from cooking food to even washing utensils, from watching your complete baking class you wanted to, to reading the book you have been willing to read from long. You know, only 3% of people finish a task or a book that they start. Isn't that the same percentage of highly successful people we see in our life? So just complete and finish what you start. And you will observe that through this strategy itself, you will develop mastery over your senses and you'll be able to achieve what you want in life. In the next lesson, I'm going to share the final strategy that will significantly help you in building discipline. So what are you waiting for? Let's deep dive into learning that. 16. Strategy 10: Questions to Ask : Welcome to this masterclass. We are onto the final sections of the course now. And in this lesson, I want you to ask two questions from you before you really apply the strategies we have learned. The questions are, the first of which is, do I want to be a disciplined person? A simple yes or a no? I need from you. Take a moment. And in this I want you to be absolutely dead honest. Do you have the same discipline belief when we started the course where discipline you felt was not for you, or do you feel that it requires something extra ordinary in me to build a simple yes or no will help Your voice of mine be in tune video voice of intellect. This is the first question for you. The second question which I want you to ask you is, Am I doing the right thing or simply what's easy for me? This question is meant for all the tasks you do the entire day. That could be you clicking on the pop-up notification that flashes for a comment you've got on your post or binging on the latest Netflix series, instead of writing the blog you intended to do at the end of the weekend, think what you are doing is the right thing now or it's just an easy thing for any task you are doing. If you choose the right thing, you'll always be able to make discipline your best friend for life. So answer these two questions and in the next lesson, I'm going to share enemies of self-discipline that you need to know to develop discipline and keep self-control in your life. 17. Enemies of Self Discipline : Welcome to this masterclass. In this very important lesson, I'm going to share the enemies of discipline and self-control that you may find yourself pre to when you're on the path of building discipline and achieving your goals. These two enemies on the distractions and impulses you face every single day. Distractions can come as a result of an Instagram notification sound, you, you're on your phone or your favorite show or a movie premiering at the time you are working on an important project or seeing a delicious bulgur on a roadside. These all things can distract you from what you're doing at that moment and from your goals of keeping yourself fit. Impulses can come as a result of your past habits or tendencies which you have now decided to drop, then it's when you have to apply one of those strategies, learn inside the codes which could be owed surfing ten minute rule or any other to help you stay on what you needed and what is right for you at that moment. Just remember, even if you are having a strong impulse or an urge for a cigarette right now, if your hands don't cooperate with your voice of the mind, nobody can have you laid that cigarette and disciplining is exactly that. It's about doing the right thing at that moment, as we have learned inside the class. Just remember that whenever impulses and distractions are bothering you, then your self-control tests in real life begins, which you have to pass with flying colors with one of the strategies that we have discussed during the class. Always remember that discipline can be painful and unpleasant at the start, but the benefit of it gives you freedom in life in the long term. Discipline is just like a habit, and if you have to keep it long with you, you have to practice it regularly. As they say, picking up a bad habit is easy, but living with them is tough. Similarly, picking up a good habitat stuff, but living with them makes your life easy and discipline does exactly that for you. Yes, This course will give you that boost and motivation. But motivation last only a few days, but good habits last a lifetime. I want you to make discipline and self-control your lifelong friend and a habit.
