About This Class

"Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself in your way of thinking."

― Marcus Aurelius

Most of us think of happiness as a scarce commodity, something that we only experience when we participate in certain major milestones or life events such as birthdays, weddings, vacations, and family gatherings. But if we choose, we can make happiness an integral part of our everyday life.

Happiness is always within us; it’s our access to happiness that changes as time passes. In order to attain a happy state, a change in perception is needed. Happiness is not outcome-based but is more about having a life that we enjoy. When we live a life that is in alignment with our intentions and our personality, we get in touch with happiness and are able to experience more of it on a day-to-day basis.

Every day is an opportunity to embrace and cherish happiness and choose joy over misery. And the more we focus on contentment, fulfillment, and satisfaction on a consistent basis ― no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in ― the better our life gets.

In this Mastery Mini class, you’ll learn how to:

  • Stop sabotaging your happiness with negative thoughts.
  • Be content no matter how successful you are.
  • Develop a new outlook in order to achieve increased and long-lasting levels of gratification and meaning.

These sessions are for all levels and you don’t need any prior knowledge, tools, or experience before beginning the class.

I have included some final summary points and prompts for reflection and writing in the accompanying PDF worksheets as well. To make sure that the lessons in this Mastery Mini class stick, I encourage you to ponder upon them and write down your unfiltered thoughts in the worksheets.

Lesson 1: Happiness Is Within: Most of us think of happiness as a scarce commodity, something that we only experience when we participate in certain major milestones or life events, such as birthdays, weddings, vacations, and family gatherings. But if we choose, we can make happiness and integral part of our everyday life. I remember a few years back I was blessed to have a Buddhist meditation center in a neighborhood that I used to live in. I had a great friendship with one of the Buddhist monks and enjoy talking to her whenever I found myself in the midst of despair and suffering. She was very kind and compassionate. The words that she wants spoke to me in our conversations still echo in my mind to this day. Happiness is a state of mind and it is always within us. It took me a while to understand the depth of those words, but once I did, it changed my perception of life. There is no point in pursuing happiness because it's an abstract notion. It's a false premise. If a tank will attain happiness by finishing tasks or scratching things off of our to-do list. Happiness is all about awareness. Our happiness does not like gauged in a beautifully wrapped box that someone can steal away from us. It's an illusion that others have control over our happiness. Happiness itself is an illusion in many respects. It's a heightened ephemeral sense of feeling good. Happiness depends on external objects, Validation and circumstances, or our interactions with others. Happiness is always within us. It's our access to happiness that changes as time passes. Pursue happiness, it will elude us. Instead, we have to focus on doing things that make us feel good. We need to realize that happiness is not bound by conditions. If you make happiness our priority, there will be times when we will be disappointed. We are conditioned by society, media, news, magazines, tabloids, and social media that happy people are the ones who are visiting all the amazing vacation spots. Getting a diploma from a prestigious university, earning millions of dollars to their job or business. Having, having an extraordinary social circle and an amazing love life, these things are great, but they are incorrect metrics for happiness. Happiness is a subtle feeling. And in order to attain a happy state, a change in perception is needed. It is more about enjoying the present moment and having a sense of belonging to the tooth within us. It is in alignment with the beauty within us and the beauty of the world as it is. Happiness is an outcome-based, but it's more about having a life that we enjoy when we live a life that is in alignment with our intentions and our personality, we're getting in touch with happiness and are able to experience more of it on a day-to-day basis. When we utilize our talents and do something meaningful in our lives, we get more in tune with the happiness within us. If we choose happiness as our destination, we will be tied to it. The president of the destination, we'll gauge the freedom of our journey. Happiness is in the journey, in the present moment. Instead of constantly pursuing it, we need to detach from it and instead commit to a life of meaning, excellence and contribution. Happiness is analogous to the blue sky. No matter how many clouds, storms, and bolts of lightning come up, the blue sky is always present. Within that, we are burdened by distractions, obligations, and everyday stresses that we just cannot avoid. But we fail to understand that the inner state of serenity, Tranquility, and happiness is always within us. We just need to acknowledge and accepted, especially when we feel distressed and oil wind. I suggest watching the blue sky animation from the Headspace app. It's a perfect representation of this metaphor. If happiness is always within us, and if no one can take it away from us, then what's the reason to worry about? Are mine likes telling us stories and keeping us a load so that we are able to survive the evil and dangerous world that is plotting and scheming against us. That's it's innate nature. We have to gently nudge it every day towards happiness, well-being, an abundance. Happiness is a state of mind. Doing actions that benefit us and others. And focusing on good karma helps us sustain our well-being in this crowded, distracted world. An intentional act of kindness. Even a little one can go along way. Tapping into the happiness within can be a lifelong journey. But for now, we need to acknowledge and accept that we can fight for something that we already have. Don't let the obligations and busyness of everyday life fool you into believing that you have lost your happiness in a daily struggle. It's always within you. You just need a few moments to get a glimpse of it. Every day as an opportunity to embrace and cherish happiness and choose joy or misery. Benjamin Franklin once wrote, happiness consists more in the small conveniences of pleasures. I'll go every day than in grid pieces of good fortune and happen, but sell them to a man in the course of his life, happiness is always within the choices we make in our daily lives. The more we focus on contentment, fulfillment, and satisfaction on a consistent basis. No matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, the better alive gets like other areas of life. Here to discipline is the key. As the 14th that ulama writes in his book, The Art of Happiness. Good, disciplined mind leads to happiness. And undisciplined mind leads to suffering, encode. 3. Lesson 2: The Subtle Art of Personal Alignment: In order to get in tune with the happiness within us, we need to master the art of personal alignment. Alignment, I mean, living a life of our own truth. We need to live our personal legend and live in accordance with our ultimate spiritual destiny. Everyone is unique and has their own unique interests and personality. We often get swayed by our friends, coworkers, and family members in believing what kind of goals we should pursue and what kind of things we need to achieve so that we can call ourselves happy and successful. But we need to understand that their opinions and goals are dictated not only by their own unique interests, but also by the conditioning of the society. It has accurate that most of their goals are mediocre. And within the confines of the limited thinking that they have. If you want to live a life that is true to our purpose and experienced things that bring us profound joy. We need to distance ourselves from pursuing the goals that we have invested in previously due to our poor judgment and wrong rational thinking, influenced by our peer group, peer group and family members. Even though our loved ones and friends have the best intentions for us, there are still driven by the innate human nature. And when they see that we're stepping out of our comfort zones and pursuing goals that didn't think were achievable, the resist pass judgment, and in certain extreme conditions, they may even ostracize us. But we have to realize that if our friends and loved ones are not supporting us and living a life of our truth. Then we need to let them go and find people and build a new support system for the new life that we need to accomplish. Now that we are in the mindset of not giving a flip about what other people think. We need to dive deeper within ourselves and know our strengths and talents. We need to figure out how we can live a life in which we can maximize our talents and use them to sell other people. In order to live a successful, an extra ordinary life, we need to be able to give away our talents freely to the world without any expectations. If pursuing money, fame, and material interests is a major priority for us, then it won't take us very far. Let the money and prosperity come to you as a byproduct of living a life of your own truth. We humans are here in this world to experience the joy of living and express our uniqueness. If you're not doing that, we're not living our lives fully. We need to best with a world with our talents and gifts. Postal alignment is not something that happens once in a lifetime. And after that, we are set for life. We need to work on it on a daily basis. We need to study ourselves and know what kind of things we enjoy. As life progresses, we change and our interests change. Our mind and spirit are constantly expanding as we experienced life. Based on the skills that we gather, the people that we meet, and the experiences that we have. We are changing constantly. And so it should be a priority for us to take out some time every day, even if for a few minutes become more aligned with the person that we are today. This can be done by journaling for a few minutes or meditating or any other way in which you find yourself enjoying your uniqueness. It may be playing music if you are an artist, running, surfing, skateboarding, or any other activity that you enjoy doing and helps you get in tune with your thoughts. We need to carve out time and space away from the world so that we can spend some time in our own bubble. This is not only good for us, but it's good for others as well. We need to keep on recalibrating ourselves with regard to the lens through which we see the world, as well as find better ways to master ourselves and our emotions and desires to our commitment to the study and practice of the philosophy that we believe in and cultivating virtues. We inch closer to our true selves and our inner being by aligning with the person we are today and making it a goal to become the ideal person we want to become. We keep ourselves on track and embrace the goodness and truth within us.
