1. Welcome to the Class: When we talk about gouache, it's a beautiful painting medium, which gives you a nice matte finish after drying. There are easy painting techniques that you can use to create some beautiful sceneries using minimal elements altogether. And you can explore the medium in detail with me. Hey, everybody. You're most welcome to my new class, myself RudwkPatel I'm a self taught, independent artist and an interior designer by profession. I personally love to explore different art forms and styles and not stick to one particular thing. So if you are joining me, you'll find a variety of classes that I create. In this class, we are going to create a beautiful gouache scenery on a coaster. You can also paint the entire class project on a watercolor paper. We are going to start by understanding the class project in detail and all the elements that we are going to paint. We're going to talk about all the art supplies that you will need for the entire class. No need to worry at all. In case you're missing out on any particular art supply, you can go for any other good alternative as well. We're going to talk about all the gouache colors that you will need for this particular project, and in case you're missing out on a coaster, you can take up the entire project on a watercolor paper as well. The first step is to create a beautiful purple sky, having a nice gradient effect in it with a lot of abstract clouds that we are going to paint using easy brush techniques. Once we are done painting the sky, we are going to paint some beautiful, snowy mountains, having a nice texture in it. You are definitely going to enjoy the entire process of painting the mountains. Then we are going to paint the foreground forest. Using solid black color, there are going to be minor elements like pine trees, a beautiful bridge, and some street lights, which is going to enhance the entire scenery. All over, you're going to enjoy the entire process of combining all the minimal elements together to form a beautiful scenery using the medium of guash. No need to worry about the output, enjoy the process of creating. You're free to explore and experiment with the entire scenery as well. The class is suited for beginners and also intermediate and advanced level artists can try it. It's a short class that will not take a lot of your time, and it will help you to explore Guash as a medium. So without any delay, grab your art supplies and join me on this creative journey. 2. Details About the Class Project: Everybody, now, let us understand the class project in detail. I'll be giving you the details about all the elements that we are going to paint in the entire class project. Observe them carefully and try to follow these steps one by one. So as you all can observe, I have placed my class project in an aesthetic manner. Now let me take you a little bit closer so that you can observe all the elements carefully. The first element is this beautiful purple sky that is going to have a beautiful gradient effect in it and some abstract clouds that we are going to paint using some easy brush techniques. There is a beautiful crescent moon, having a nice contrast with the background. Now, apart from these two things, we are going to have a beautiful snow mountain that we are going to paint, having a nice texture in it, and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process. You can observe the details carefully. Then we have these beautiful street lamps that we are going to paint using solid black color, having some distributed wires all over, which is connected with the abstract forest in the foreground and a little bridge that we are going to create. The forest is having these little tree elements which are basically pine trees, and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process of painting the foreground elements as well. These are all the elements that we are going to combine all together to form this beautiful coaster. No need to worry about the output. You're free to explore and experiment. Just enjoy the process of creating. I hope that you got an exact idea about the class project that we are going to create. Now let us move towards the next part. 3. Art Supplies: Hey, everybody. Now let us talk about all the art supplies that you will need for the entire class. No need to worry at all. In case you are missing out on any particular art supply, you'll find it very easily in any nearby local art store, or you can go for any other good alternative as well. So as you can observe, I have placed all my art supplies in a systematic manner so that we can talk about them one by one. Let us talk about the first art supply. That's a simple, transparent color palette in which you can already observe some gouache colors. So try to have a nice color palette which is having enough space to take out multiple colors in it and a little bit of mixing space as well. Then let us talk about the next art supply, which is a simple glass container that you can observe is having a little bit of blue water in it. Of course, we are going to take some clear water. So it is required to have a little bit of water so that we can mix the colors well and use water wherever required. And yeah, to clean the brushes as well. Then the next art supply is a simple tissue paper that you can already observe is having a little bit of color on it. A tissue paper is required whenever you're painting to dab the brushes and remove excess amount of color and water from the brushes. Now, let us talk about the most important art supply, which is the brushes that we are going to use. So you'll need three basic brushes. The first one is a round brush of size four. The second one is a flat brush of size four, and the last one is a round brush of size zero. It is okay if you'll have a little bit of difference in the size of the brush. But these are the three brushes that you'll need to take up the entire class project. Now let us talk about the next art supply, which is the coaster that we are going to use. You can observe it's a simple round coaster having a six inch diameter. But in case you are not having a coaster, you can definitely take the entire class project on a watercolor paper. I'll be giving you the details about the watercolor paper as well. So this coaster is basically a MDF coaster, medium density fiber board. You can find this coaster in any nearby local art store. You can explore with the shape and size as well. Now let us talk about the watercolor paper that you can use in case you do not have a coaster. So you can use a nice watercolor paper of any size. These are A five size sheets from Kansan and 300 GSM. The GSM is basically the thickness of the paper so that you can apply heavy washes of brush on. Now let us talk about the gouache colors that you will need for the entire class. There are four basic colors, black, purple, titanium, white and yellow. Using these four basic colors, we are going to complete the entire scenery. And in case you want to explore with the color palette, it is absolutely fine. I hope that you got an exact idea about all the art supplies that you will need for this particular class. Now let us move towards the next part. 4. Painting the Sky: Hey, everybody. Now let us start with the first step, which is painting a beautiful purple sky. So I'm ready with all my art supplies nearby and the coaster. The first color is going to be purple and a little bit of titanium white. Using these two colors, we are going to create a beautiful gradient effect in the sky area. So in my color palette, I have taken a little bit of purple, and I'll be using my flat brush of size four. Try to have less amount of water and more color in your flat brush and start applying the color on the topmost portion initially. Now slowly move towards the bottom area, and we're not going to completely cover the entire surface. I'll take a little bit of black and apply it on the topmost portion to create a little bit of depth. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an even coat of color so that you get a beautiful matte texture. I'll take a little bit of water to loosen the color we are not going to completely cover the entire coaster with purple because we are going to have a nice gradient effect in the bottom portion. So I'll take a little bit of water and mix it with white. Now, we are going to apply white color in the bottom part. You can add a little bit of purple in it as well. You can absorb the way I'm moving my flat brush in this horizontal direction. Now slowly, I'll move towards the above area where we have applied purple. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and try to paint in a slow and steady manner. You can observe the way I'm moving my flat brush in a horizontal direction. Now, there's a line of separation between both the colors. Simply clean your brush in water, dab it onto the tissue paper to make it a little bit dry and apply in between the separation line. You'll observe a beautiful blend between both the colors. No need to hurry at all. Again, you have to do this particular step in a very slow and steady manner. You can observe that we have got a beautiful difference in color in the topmost portion and the below part. I'll take a little bit of color, a little bit of purple color in my color palette, basically. Add a little bit of water and apply the color on the topmost portion. In case you find that the saturation of the color is a little bit less, it is absolutely fine because Guache is having a beautiful regenerating property. So if you apply a little bit of water and colour together, it will blend with the background color. Now slowly, I'll just apply the color and slowly move towards the bottom part. Now, once we are done painting the sky area, let it dry for a while, give it some time so that it dries well. Now, once you find that your sky area is completely dry, we are going to take a little bit of purple in our flat brush of size four, and we are going to apply these little horizontal strokes. No need to hurry at all. You have to hold your brush in an angle so that you get these thin horizontal strokes. You can add a little bit of white to decrease the saturation of purple color. I'm starting from the left hand portion, and I'm going to create these little horizontal strokes. Now, the best part about gouache colors is that you can regenerate the color if you apply a little bit of water and color on a dried coat, it is a really great property because if in case you make any mistake, you can correct it. Now you can observe that we are slowly moving towards the bottom area. You can observe the way I'm moving my flat brush in an angle to create these beautiful abstract clouds. In case you find that your brush is very dry, you can add a little bit of water. In the darker portion of purple, I'm adding a little bit of white to get a beautiful cloud effect. Clouds generally have a very natural and organic shape, so there is no specific way of painting them. You just have to combine these little horizontal strokes together to form a nice cluster of cloud, and it is not at all compulsory for you to paint in the exact same way I'm painting right now. You're free to explore and experiment. In fact, you can create your own shapes and you can compose the clouds according to your convenience. Also, in fact, you want to play with the color scheme and explore a different color palette for the entire background. It is absolutely fine. You can observe that we have created these beautiful abstract clouds in the bottom portion as well. I hope that you got an exact idea of how you have to paint these beautiful clouds in a nice gradient background. Now let us move towards the next part. 5. Painting the Mountain: Hey, everybody. Now, let us paint these snowy mountains, and it is one of my favorite elements in this entire scenery. So our background is completely dry with the abstract clouds. I'll be taking my round brush of size four, and we're going to mix some purple and white together to create a nice base color initially. Now, again, mountains will be having a very natural and organic shape. You're free to compose. I'm slowly starting with a small mountain initially, and we are going to add few more. She can observe the way I'm using the tip of my round brush to create a bigger mountain, as well. So initially, you can create the outline first and then fill in the entire color. In case you find that your brush is not having enough amount of color, feel free to take some more color in the color palette, add a little bit of water, and always try to create a nice composition of water and color together. Try to have less amount of water and more color so that you get a nice thick consistency of the color. You can observe that we have created a nice base coat for the entire mountain, and it is having a nice outline as well. Now, this base coat will help us to create a beautiful texture on the entire mountain, as well. No need to hurry at all. It's a very simple and easy step to create and paint a beautiful mountain. Now, once your base coat is applied, we are going to take some dark purple, having a nice saturation in case you want to add a little bit of black in it. It is absolutely fine. So on the first mountain which is bigger, I have created a simple separation line that you can observe. And I'm using the tip of my round brush to do this. Now, this line basically divides the mountain into two parts where we are going to play with a lot of shadow. So I'm applying a darker tone of purple on the right hand side, and left hand side is going to be as it is where we are going to create a little bit of texture. So it basically gives an ice three D effect to the entire mountain. On the topmost portion, in case you want to have a darker tone, you can add a little bit of black, but carefully, no need to apply a lot of black. Now, similarly, we are going to add the darker tone of purple on the remaining mountains as well on the right hand side, of course. And you'll observe a beautiful difference and a nice three defect. Using the tip of your round brush, you can create these little strokes which will combine all the mountains together. Now, there is a very natural process of painting this. So I have to tell you that no need to worry about painting it in the exact same way. There might be a little bit of difference between your painting and mine, and it is absolutely fine. Now, using the tip of my round brush, I'm just blending the colors together. When you will work practically with gouache, you'll understand how the texture of the color exactly works. You'll be able to blend in a very better and nice way. You just have to keep in mind about the consistency that you create with water and color together. Now, in order to enhance the mountains a little bit more, I'll take a little bit of solid white color from the color palette using the same round brush of size four. And we are going to create this beautiful white texture on the left hand side. So now you can observe a clear line of suppression and a beautiful depth in the entire mountain. So it basically adds a lot of detail and makes the mountain look a little bit more in three D. Now on the bottom portion, I'm using a little bit of white to create a beautiful white mountain, which basically makes it look a little bit more attractive. So as you all know that mountains generally have a very natural shape, so you can compose it in whichever manner you want to. Just try to make it look a little bit more aesthetic. Using white colour, you'll be able to create these little strokes, which basically adds a nice texture to the entire mountain and makes it look a little bit more snowy and attractive. You just have to observe these steps carefully. I'll be using the tip of my round brush to add these little texture on the entire mountain surface. And using the same white color, you can add it on the purple side of the mountain as well to make it look a little bit more attractive and in detail. A Ah So you can observe that we have added a beautiful texture using solid white wash color. And the more texture you'll add, the more attractive the entire mountain area will look. So there is no end to this, you'll definitely enjoy the entire process of adding minute details to the entire mountain surface. You can still observe the way I'm adding these little strokes using the tip of my round brush. In case you find that there is a little bit of extra water in your brush, feel free to dab it onto the tissue paper. This will help you to remove axis amount of water from the brush, and you're able to get a beautiful texture. And also, in case you find that your color is getting finished from the brush, feel free to take some more color from the color palette. It's a combination of purple, white, and black together that you can use to create a beautiful mountain texture. In case you want to play with the composition of the mountains and the color palette, it is absolutely fine. You are free to explore and create your own composition. B. So we are done painting the mountains. I hope that you got an exact idea of how to paint the mountains. It will definitely take a little bit of time, but you'll definitely enjoy the entire process. Observe these steps carefully and try to paint with a lot of patience and you'll definitely get best results. Now let us move towards the next part and paint the foreground forest. And 6. Painting the Landscape: Hey, everybody. Now let us paint the landscape, which is the last step of the entire gouache scenery. We are done with these snowy mountains. Now let us paint the foreground forest. Now to do this particular step, I'm going to take my flat brush of size four again, take some solid black color in it, try to make a good composition of water and color together, try to have less amount of water and more color, mix it well in the color palette, and we are going to create a beautiful landscape initially. So using the flat brush, you can observe carefully the way I'm moving it to create an outline initially, and then we'll fill in solid black color in the inner portion. While you are doing this particular step, make sure that you do not hurry and try to create a nice outline and make sure that you cover the brown space. Also, make sure that you do not move a lot of your flat brush inside the mountains that we have painted because then the look will definitely go. You can observe that in a little portion on the bottom portion where we have this brown color of the coaster, I have applied this beautiful solid black color. Now, in the remaining portion, you can apply the solid black color as well. Now, what we are going to do is that once we are done painting the land area, we're going to add some minute details using the same solid black color. In case you find that there is any space left in the entire surface of the coaster, you can definitely take some more solid black color from the color palette and apply it in that particular portion. Now I'll be using my round brush of size four, and we are going to add some little strokes on the top surface of the landscape that we have created. Now, this will help us to make a beautiful landscape. In case you want to create some variation using your round brush, you can do that as well. So I'll just use the tip of my round brush and create the landscape in an attractive manner. Now, using the same round brush, we are just going to create these little strokes on the topmost portion, and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process because it will add a nice minute detail to the entire painting. You just have to create these little vertical strokes which are combined with the landscape that we painted in the bottom portion. So it basically acts as a silhouette you can observe the way I'm moving my round brush. While you're adding a minu detail to a painting, always try to keep your hand very much loose and free. No need to make it stiff. In case you want to use a round brush of size zero, it is absolutely fine. Both the round brushes will work. Now slowly, I'll move towards the bottom portion, adding these little strokes. Now, once we are done adding these little strokes, we are going to add a simple vertical line in between these little strokes. And this vertical line will help us to paint a beautiful pine tree which is attached with the landscape. Now, you can add this particular vertical line wherever you want to. This particular vertical line will help us to decide the position of the pine tree initially, and then we are going to add some minute details to it. So you can observe, I have just increased a simple vertical line. Now start adding some little strokes from the topmost portion. As you move towards the bottom area, simply increase the size of the strokes that you're making. This will help you to create the entire structure of the pine tree and connect it with the landscape that we have painted in the bottom portion. It's a very satisfying process, and you'll definitely enjoy it for sure. No need to hurry at all, paint it with a lot of patients. In case you find that your color is getting finished from the brush, take some more color from the color palette. And in case you find that there is excess amount of water in your brush, simply dab it onto the tissue paper. This will help you to remove axis amount of water from the brush. Now I have created one more vertical line in between, and you just have to add these little strokes, start from the topmost portion. And as you move towards the bottom area, increase the size of the strokes that you're making. So we are done with one more pine tree. You can add few more wherever you want to, so you're free to compose. If you keep a nice variation in the size of the pine trees, it will give a nice look to the entire scenery. Now, using the same solid black color, I'll be using my round brush of size zero, and we are going to create a bridge which will give a beautiful detail to the entire scenery. Use the tip of your round brush and simply connect a nice horizontal line between both the pine trees. No need to apply a lot of pressure in case you want a thick line, reapply another horizontal line. You can observe that it is a part of the entire landscape that we have painted using solid black. So we are going to create these little vertical lines as pillars. And while you'll add these little details, you'll definitely enjoy the process. There's a different sense of satisfaction when you add minute details to the entire painting, especially when you're using a solid black color. Now slowly, I'll just make the vertical line a little bit thick by adding another line. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and add minute vertical lines connecting with the horizontal line that we painted initially. This bridge element is one of my favorite elements to the entire scenery. Now slowly, I'm moving towards the right hand side, finishing the entire bridge structure. Now, above the bridge structure, we are going to have a beautiful street lamp that we are going to paint, and you are definitely going to love it. So using the same solid black color, add a little bit of water to loosen the colour up, and we are going to create a nice vertical line in between the bridge. While you're doing this particular step, be a little bit careful because we are painting on the mountain surface. That's why we did not want to spoil the mountain. So you just have to paint a little bit carefully. I have created a nice vertical line which is acting as a street lamp, and we are going to add two more horizontal lines. So there are going to be lights in the street lamp that we are going to paint afterwards. So I'm just creating two horizontal lines on either side of the vertical line, having a little bit of angle in now we are just going to enclose it with little circles. You can make the lines a little bit thicker in case you want to. Now just create a little circular shape, or you can consider it as a rectangle as well, having some space in between, where we are going to add a nice solid yellow color. Now to add a little bit of detail into the street lamp, I'm just adding these little horizontal lines on the pole that we have painted. Now we can add these little wires which are just randomly getting out of the street lamp, and you can connect it with the forest that we have painted on the bottom portion. Similarly, we'll add few more street lamps, having one single light on the topmost portion. You're free to decide the position of the street lamp according to your convenience. I've created two vertical lines on the left hand portion. Now I'll just create a little circular shape on the topmost portion, having some space in between. So these are basically smaller street lamps, and you can observe a beautiful contrast with the background color. Now, similarly, you can add minute details by adding these little horizontal lines on the pole, and you can also connect some wires according to your convenience wherever you want to. And you can look how beautiful the entire painting is looking right now. Now, once we are done painting the street lamps, you're going to add a beautiful, vibrant yellow color to the lights, and it will make the entire painting look a little bit more attractive and aesthetic. Take some solid yellow colour in the color palette, try to have very less water in it in case you want to, or you can directly apply the color inside the light that we have created on the topmost portion. And you can observe how beautifully it will enhance the entire street lamp. Now comes the last element of the painting, which is going to be a beautiful crescent moon. So I'll be taking my round brush of size zero, take some solid white color from the color palette and create a little circular shape in a curved manner, of course, it is a very tiny moon, and you're free to decide the position of the moon according to your convenience. So we are done with the entire painting. Let me take you a little bit closer so that you can observe all the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed the entire process of painting this beautiful purple sky painting, having these little elements like a snowy mountain and a beautiful forest element. No need to worry about the output, enjoy the process of creating. You're free to explode and experiment with the entire scenery as well. Now let us move towards the class conclusion. 7. Class Conclusion: Everybody. You're most welcome to the class conclusion. I hope that you enjoyed the entire class and got to learn something new and creative. Wash is a really nice medium to explore and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process. While I was creating this particular class, I made a lot of mistakes, and that is something that I always tell my students never to be afraid of making mistakes. It's part of the learning process. It would be really great if you add your projects into the project gallery. I would be really excited to see all of your class projects. It would be really great if you leave a review for the entire class, as it encourages me a lot and my class can reach many more students like you. At the end, I would like to say, keep learning, keep practicing. Thank you so much for joining the class and no need to worry about the output. Just enjoy the process of creating.
