1. Intro: Hi, and welcome to my
new Skillshare class. Funds with texture
using Procreate. My name is Brenda Bucher. I'm an artist and teacher
from the Netherlands. Today, I wanted to teach you so fun techniques on how to use texture to create
lovely illustration that are more
appealing to the eye. We will create brushes and textured canvases that
will help to speed up your process in creating lovely illustrations
with a lot of texture. For this course, I
will not be providing any brushes or
Canvas because it's part of this class to create those brushes and
campuses yourself, you will have your own
unique brushes entering, texturize it canvas
to draw with. You can follow along
with my process using only Procreate
default brushes. But of course you are free
to use any brush you like. First we will be starting with creating fun marks
on the canvas. And from those marks we will create our own unique brushes. We're going to dive into the
brush studio to see what the behavior of the brush does when you use
different settings. When we're done
creating those brushes, we're going to play it
on the canvas and create some lovely textures
that will be processed into our Canvas later
on in this course, I will teach you how to
do that step-by-step. I will also show you
how easily you can get a lovely paper texture
for your canvas. It will be looking like if
you have drawn on real paper. And if we got all
the layers we need, it's time to bring into
magic to your Canvas. We will do this to get
our step-by-step as well. And often we explored how to kind of first works and how
the colors will behave. We can create a
lovely illustration together and see how you're
unique Canvas works for you. If you want to learn
how to do that, I would like to
see you in class. Let's get started.
2. Creating your own Unique Marker Brushes: We're going to start by
creating our own Canvas. In order to do so will be only using Procreate native brushes. So everybody can join alone. Also, we're going to create
some texture brushes together in order to get some
fun textures into Canvas. Remember that every
Canvas you will make this way will be your
own unique Canvas. Um, well, every campus
will be different. When I'm going to
create a canvas. My latest Canvas
was this canvas. It's got a lot of
textures in it. And that was fairly
lovely to create. I created this whole piece
with only procreate brushes, but there were no hatch
brushes in Procreate. So I created my own hedge brush. So that's what we're going
to do in this class. This canvas is also different. Then another canvas
I've created before, I've used different
made brushes. I also use brushes for
this one by other artists, but also you can find lots
of free brushes online. Well, we're going to
play and create our own. So it's for everybody. If you are starting
with Procreate or if you have got
a lot of brushes, you can use all those. But in case you haven't
got a lot of brushes, we're going to make
some of our own. The first thing we want to
do is create a new canvas. For that. We're going through the plus. I want to come first from
ten inch by an inch. So I haven't already here, but let's pretend if I don't and we have to start all
the way from scratch. So I'm going to
create a new canvas. I'm going to convert
it to inches. I want ten inches by ten inches. And I want my DPI on 300. Now, I've got a large iPad Pro. So on this one I've
got 204 layers, but the way I draw, that's not very hard to do. And I don't use a lot of layers, but for creating brushes, I'm creating a canvases. It's fairly, you can use up to seven or eight layers
only for the textures alone. So it will be fairly convenient if you've got
a lot of layers as well. I think if you have 40 layers
or something like that, that will be good enough to go and otherwise there
will be work routes. So if you've got this, we're going to create our new canvas is appearing
at the top left corner. There. We've got our Canvas. This is my new canvas. As you can see, it's
completely empty. I want my textures
to have a lot of scratches and hatching
and marks in it. So that's what I'm
going to create by now. For instance, if I don't have this huge library of brushes, I lately count them. I've got over 300 brushes, which is actually very weird and you don't
need all those brushes. But I'm learning
also about brushes. Very well. Mostly I thought if
I have debt brush, debt, I could paint
just like the artist. But that's not true. It's like if you've got if
you've got a great P&L, you don't suddenly play like
Mozart or someone like that. We're going to be
using our own brushes. And well, I'm mostly nowhere
all those brushes are. Let's go my sketching brush
and take the six B pencil. It's in the brush
library under sketching, we can take the six B pencil. I will give some hatch marks. I will do it a
little bit bigger. So I'm going to give
it some stripes. I want them bigger, so I'm going to enlarge them later on, but for now I'm going to give
it three marks like that, a couple of marks like
that. That's very simple. Uniform and going
to enlarge debts, It's a little bit bigger. And just make sure that it's
approximately in the middle of your canvas and it's
not cutting off the sides. Let me check if I'm
safe Like this. Yes. Please don't do it
except the same way I do because you're going
to make your own brush, but these are the
steps for this part. I'm going to do a three
finger swipe down. Copy all. I'm going to create a
new brush for debts. I'm going on top of my library. At the top you can hit a plus. So that's my new sets and
I'm going to call it. I've got a set here
for breakfast. So I'm going to make a
new SAT like textures. And it is appear
to me, textures. I gave it because
it's a different one. I'm given a one. So now I can create a new brush by going to
this plus sign here, I got a totally new brush. I want the shape. That's the shape of
what the brush will do. There I go by Edit,
Import, Paste. This is the one I drew, but when I leave it like this, it will produce a
black stamp with a white lines and I
want it inverted. So I do a two fingertip and I would invert it
and now I clicked on. Now I have a brush with
all of these marks. But I'm going to
my stroke both to keep giving them a
little bit more space. So I won't I'm a little
bit outside of each other. I'm going to enlarge it a little bit because I
can't see very well. Let's go by here and go
to the Stroke Path again. What will be a nice way? Let's clear it. It's what is it like with this? I think it's totally too
much inside of Jupiter. And it doesn't work and we
do a three-finger swipe. It's still too much. We'll be playing
a little bit with the settings and how far
they are from each other. But now they're stamping it all the way to same
and I don't want it, so I'm going to play with it. For that. I will go to my
jitter that's right here. And you can see, you can play a little bit with
it a little bit. You can play the amount you
would like for your brush. I also go back to my
shape and I want them to rotate a bit so there will be a little bit of
sight of each other and maybe the counts then you can
see this is one stem. Here. They do a lot of strokes and
they make him more intense. So that's what you're
gonna play with. You can see how that
affects the stroke both. So let me check how
this works now. I think it's still
much in the same way, so let me play with that. Yes, that's where it's
getting a little bit messier. We can play with that. Yes. Let me see what this
does on a new canvas. I've already got one brush, we're going to name them later. Let me see. Always keep your stamps
aside from a new canvas. I'm going to duplicate this
canvas or create a new one, but this is way quicker, way faster. I clear this one. And now I can test my brush. I like it already. We can play a little
bit with this one. Maybe I want them to be with
a thicker pencil as well. What maybe you can
use this also, because in a drawing
this will be fun. For a lot of textures. It's very easy brush. This is just a plague, Memphis. So let me duplicate this brush because now I
already have a lot of settings. I just can't change the
shape to get a new brush. So what if I go back to my shape canvas with
my trials on it? And let's make
these one invisible by touching square and
creating your canvas on top. For dead layer, I will
use my what do we have? Also a charcoal. When we go to charcoals,
we have thicker. What one? 6-bit compressed. I think that will be funny. So what if we do the same
thing with a charcoal brush? Not a lot of pressure. Just some soft touches. Same share. I will be using the same shape. Approximately. I think I didn't do the
stroke soft enough. So swish, swish,
swish, swish, swish. I don't like the length of it. It's outside of the
canvas like this. This will be a soft touch. Let's copy. Remember we made the new
brush by duplicating him going into the duplicates and we change only the shape. So go to Edit, Import and paste. Now you see every step it
remembered from the one before. So let's click done and
let us see what it does. The other canvas, like this
new brush, softer hatch. I can play it a
little bit with that. We can change a variety
of sizes and shapes. Well, this is fun. I think
I liked the textures and size of charcoal brush, so I will be using that
for the next brush. I'm going to duplicate
this one again. Let me see what I can
do for shape now. I'm going to create a new layer. And let me play a little bit
with another hedge, sketch. Know that's the same
brush, go back. It will be easy if I put
those in the same one. So let me duplicate this one. It was from charcoals. Let me duplicate this one. There will be easy. Let's put this in the
texture one brush so I can easily go over to the next one. I think, yes, I've
got it here now. It will be easy to go to. For now. Let's do a little
scratch like that. So just a simple fun shape. Maybe Sandra it a
little bit more. What if we've got this
texture copy all? And how does it work?
Go to this one. You notice this is
the copy, shape. Import, paste, all the settings. We'll see now you'll have a different hatch and
that's very lovely to see. Let me see what that does. All the other Canvas. I think this is awesome. I think I would
really like this one. Software you touch it, you can play with that as well. Software you touch
it, the software, those will be the
harder your brush. You can play with that, also with your
settings in the brush. For instance, what
if I want to give it a bigger size when I do a
little bit more pressure. Let me see. Where is it? The pressure then we can add
the pressure and the size like little tips on it. Let me check. Smaller and bigger. See this one is lighter
and smaller and this one is a lot bigger and darker. So you can play with
everything in your brushes. While this is not a class
about brush making, but it's a fun way to create new brushes with textures that are unique and of your own. So I create a new one. Like what if I would love? Yes, for instance, I'm
going to save this one. Great new one. Just go back to my six be compressed because
I liked it in my drawings. So just some couple of randomly marked stripes. Copy all created
in the new brush? No. I don't want a new brush. I want a copy to one. So delete this brush. Duplicated. Want again. I will play with the shapes. Edit, Import, Paste. That's my new one. It's done. Now this is fun. Let me see what that does. This is also a fun texture. Now you can see these
are randomly placed. But what if I don't want it? I want them consistent? Well, we can change those settings specs or you
can create the new one. But the settings is very easy. Don't get the jitter. Rotation schedule. Let me see what that does. The count is thinking I think
the count is still own. Yes. Spacing could be a little bit
off because these two are together so we can play a
little bit with the spacing. I think this will be grades. Now you have a lot of hatching
and scratching brushes you can use in your textures.
You can play along. You can make as many
shapes as you like. Maybe we'll doing one more. Duplicating this one. Go back to my
shapes and sources. What about let's go
back to the sixth week compressed and make some marks. Like so. Those are lovely marks and copy creates a
duplicate of the brush. Go to the Shape,
Edit, Import, Paste. Let me see what that does do. I like the spacing. How does it behave itself? This could be fun. Well, you can make as
many marks as you like. So that's how you can create some lovely textures
for your brushes. But you can also use
Procreate natives, like for instance,
to her arch brush. I like very much
It's in painting. No, in artistic hertz brush. I'm going to go into
duplicate this as well. More of it. My
folder. There it is. I also like thoroughly, I think you can you can play
and look for yourself or let me go to claims, oil
plumes, palimpsest. I don't know what it's called. Like that one too.
Let's duplicate it and bring it up to
the textures as well. Let's Play, and now we're going to finally create our canvas. Let's clear this out. Deletes. Clear. This is our standard
ten by ten inch canvas.
3. Creating the Marked Paper Sheets for your Canvas: Notice we've created
lovely piece of market brushes and I hope you
made some more of your own. Now, let's go and play
with a new canvas. What I'm going to do is just make with the PECC brush
this one I like very much. I'm going to make some marks. I will use them very small and
I'm going to play with it. There will be a lot of
trial and errors for debts. This, but yes, you want your own unique Canvas so you can play to your own liking. What I normally
do is just go and scribble around a
***** for this one. This is the one where it's
good, bigger and software. I don't want to I do
want a bigger one. I think my size does my
ten by ten inch canvas. My size is approximately 1314. I'm going to play with
a lot of head sheesh. Now you think this will be
too much and just Studies. I'm going to play with it. Fun thing is, this wouldn't be lovely when you see
this in your drawing. Backgrounds. Watch and learn how we're going to play
with this texture. This is what I'm going to do. I'm going to my eraser with the same brush
by pressing and holding it will go
into the eraser brush. Then I make my size very big. And then I'm going to erase with the texture
the same texture. Then you will see the
marks still feasible, but not, not all as much. And very light. You can play with this
as much as you like. So if you think I can't see, still can see some hutches. But I don't see that
the pattern as well from how I how I
drew those hatches, then we can play with it. What I'm going to
do now is that I can take a JPEG out of this one. So I share as JPEG, import it to my camera roll. So I saved this one. Let's create a new layer
on top for my next one. What, for instance, if I like pencil scratches or pen
scratches in my drawing, this will be fun as well. So I go to my six B for brush
on sketching with its six. Yes, my six B pencil. I think that's very big and
just want some scratches. Lot of hard pressure,
soft pressure, just make scratches just
to your own liking. And also in the part I'm
going to erase a bit, but I cannot quite easily
erase with the same texture. So I'm going to search for
something a little bit bigger. What about the six
be compressed? I can erase some things, make them less heart. Something I would like
to see in my drawing. Remember, we can
always play with the opacity later on when
you're creating your Canvas. I think this looks lovely. So I'm going to create a
JPEG out of that as well. Save it to my camera roll. Now I already have two layers. I'm going to create
a new one on top. And I want an overall kind
of most noise effects. And that's why I'm going to not elements materials
stair is the noise brush. We can play along with
textures as well. So let's create lovely shush. We can play with textures
like this as well. Maybe a little bit. We can erase also, so that's not too
much in your face. Same brush. Also a thicker one. I'm going to lower the opacity because I still want them there. I want a little bit more
control of what I can see. I hope you can still see this. I see on camera
It's very smudgy. That's from a faraway distance. Doesn't have to be
the same thickness. That's okay. Make sure you don't get
an easy to look better. Now looking through the
camera when I'm doing this, I feel like a surgeon now
with microscopic thing. I'm not looking
straight at the canvas. This is a bit dark or dark area. You know what I'm trying to say? You look from a distance. You can also zoom out
and there you can see the parts that are
very in your face. Take your time to do this
to your, to your liking. I also noted, noted by now, I'm going to save
the image as well. I'm also going to
create another one. And maybe I will
do some splashes. And if we maybe
with a spray paint, there will be lovely split. Maybe what would we like? Maybe to flicks will be lovely. That's also a native
brushes for Procreate. Let's to be also too much, but we can play with it. We can play with everything. Same brush, bigger,
erase some parts. Play with the size. And again, we can play
with your opacity later. I think this is also fun. Let's get a JPEG out
of that as well. I've gotten a lot of textures now and I want to incorporate them within my new canvas
I'm going to create. But I don't have a
paper texture yet. And I would love to see if my drawings are made on actual paper more than
two smooth and ditched list. And that's why I'm going
to get me a paper texture.
4. Creating the Paper Texture Sheets for your Canvas: For my paper texture, I go to the website Unsplash. There are all images
you can use freely. I want to see some
paper textures and I loved the pulpy paper. Let me see. Well, I already did my research. I always look for free paper. And this is the
one I really like. It's by PB hub, so always give them credits. If I tap on it, you can see some lovely marks in it. And that's what I love. This one is too much, but we can play with that. That's why we've got
Procreate and I will show you how to get
rid of them easily. So I'm downloading it
for free download. And here you can see you
if your download ready. I will use them to
my a photo camera, camera roll. That's easy. That's how I'm getting in
into Procreate as well. Now I'm ready to
create my new canvas. So I've got a lot of texture layers here
show that we created. And I've got my
puppy paper texture that's saved in my camera roll. Let's create a new canvas. I'm going to create. We've already created one, so you can look by
the ten by ten inch. First, I'm going to get in
the pulpy paper texture. I'm going to the
wrench to go into, Add, insert a photo and
I will take this photo. And you'll see it's not
the right size because it's a rectangle shape
and my canvas is square. I mostly use square
because I draw only for Instagram purposes. Mostly done. I'm going to stretch
this a little bit. I can make this bigger, but I can also stretch it. If you've got a pattern, you can not stretch it, but this one is okay to stretch. And I want to keep as many
as I can in the picture. So I'm going to distortion. And I'm going to
get it right here. And also here, make it
a little bit bigger. So I am sure. Welcome effort at all sides. No. I don't like this market. That's too much in my face. I think when you use the
same canvas over and over, you can see that too much. You don't want to have those in. But we have a frontal for that. And that's the clone tool. So you go to your magic
ones, go to clone. Here you can see the piece of
paper I wanted to go there. Make sure you have
a great brush. I will be using, I think. Let's see what the six
be compressed does. Yes. Now, I copied the fibers that
we're here onto that spot so you can get rid of all the marks that
were way too visible. You can also tap down just sold. I will be there, but not as much anymore. That's how you easily got rid of the marketing shoot out like. But this layer now
is a little bit and I want him to be as
great as possible. So I'm going to use
saturation and brightness. Go to my saturation
and turn it into gray. Now I have two lovely
color for that. I'm going to duplicate this one, change the top one to multiply the one
below to color burn. Now this is way too visible, but we can always
play with opacity. So what if we have its own 50%? Something like that? Let me see. It looks like paper now, but not too much in your face. This is my paper
texture for my canvas. I'm going to group these together by swiping
to the right. Now you can see
group, tap on group. Rename it for paper texture. Writing it down. Writing me the wrong way. Paper texture and smoke
flattened this one.
5. Continue Creating the actual Magic for your Canvas: Now it's important to get in all the layers we've
made copies from. So I'm going to add in, insert a photo, go to
your photos section. Import all the
campuses fits to size, Fit to Canvas easily. These are my head says. I'm also going to
rename them so I can know what those were. I'm getting this below
the paper texture. You'll see now it
immediately darkens, detects chair because
the multiply and the Color Burn
layers are going to darken the layers below. Well, let's create another one. Insert a photo, do the hatches as scratches
Fit to Canvas. At another one. Denoise Fit to Canvas. I forgot to name that one. What is the noise brush? These were scratches. Just scratches. Noise still wanted to go. The flicks Fit to
Canvas, rename Flix. Now I've got a lot of textures as well as
the paper texture. What I mostly do is change
the background color because then I can see what those textures will do
on the layers below. You can't see everything
right now because I've got white backgrounds and
that's what I wanted. I tried these without
the white background. So for instance, if I went to my other Canvas
where I have all this below and I got
rid of the background. When I use that on a white
background, it's perfect, but when I use it on a light
pink or light yellow one, the textures will be
appearing in gray and I don't know why I'm
not a layering expert. I'm not a blend mode expert, but I tried an
airport and that's why I made copies of it all
with the white background. In all of this. Let me turn off all
those layers so we only have the first layer
with the scratches. And let me see what
a blend mode does. Mostly I go to Color Burn. Background is way too dark now. Yes. Do I want it red to blue? Little bit blue. Let me play with
the opacity of it. So I just want some
markings and touches. Then I think maybe I did my
scratches a little too small. Well, I can play with that. Later on. I will go continuing. And you see I also
make mistakes, but you can see my clean-up
after two afterwards. I think I'm going to
continue with this. Copy the whole canvas and from the copied Canvas that will
have all the layers in it. I can maybe resize
this a little bit, so I'm going to
enlarge the scratches mostly depending on the size
of drawing you will make. So let's continue with this one, maybe a little bit
more like this. Continue to create a new
layer. For this one. I want to be darken them. I'm going to set this
also to color burn. You see how it instantly shows up as markings
in your drawing. I would love that very much. I'm going to
duplicate this first because I'm going to do
some other things with it. The first one, I'm going to change the opacity a bit so it still will be
there but not too much away. Let's enough to get rid of this one because then I
can see what I'm doing. Just some light scratches, but 37% is enough for me to
see those lines scratches. You can also see
the paper texture. If I zoom in, you can see now the paper texture and those
little hedges are in there. So there are going to
be a lot of marks. I did this one also,
That's a duplicate, but I'm going to
make this feasible, but now they're at the
same shapes and size. What it can easily
do is change them by rotate them quartz, so I have a new, new lines on different
places very easily. You can also create new lines, thicker lines or
anything you like. But just for the sake
of this tutorial, let me see what we
can do with that. But because we can also make those layers appear
very differently. What about if we get some
scratches out of debt? Will be brighter and lighter. Difference is fun. I like to divide one. The bar gives you a
more of a lighter look, so it's scratched
off of the paper. So now we have three
layers at work. We have to hatch us. You see the darker spots here. We have to scratch us. Those are darker lines and we have the
scratches on divide. And those are the lighter marks, but sometimes they
could be very annoying. So you can also play with
the opacity a little bit. Just enough so it's feasible. 54%. I guess that's fun
for me to play with. And because I rotate
it a quarter, it will be on other sites then the layer before it was. So
that's an easy one. Let's go to the Noise brush. Let's play with that one. Make it feasible first. Then let's see what it does. When it's on multiply. Darkens. That's lovely. Weekend. See what they all do. Dark and doesn't do anything. Color Burn is way in your face, but you can change
what the opacity, but it's not what
I'm looking for. I want him to be
lighter to give them softer texture and I wanted
it to be see-through. Overlay in black doesn't work. It works, but I want him
maybe I'm also wanting it to be like divide one. Not as much. This will be lovely, I guess. Maybe we can play with
the size of its enlarging and do it later. And let me see what
the flex does. The last one for now. Want to darken a little
bit of specs in there. You have a little bit of
those flicks in here. But it can be too much for you, so you can play with
the opacity as well. We have more. Let me see. I multiply Color, Burn, Color, Burn color,
brand would be lovely, just not as hard. Maybe 13%. Again for you, It's all depends on what
you're doing with it. Well, I've got some
textures done now. Scratches light, this,
light scratches. So I'm going to rename them
up again a little bit. Here it is. Lighten. Lightened, scratches.
Perfect English word. I don't know. For me, it's easy to see
what, what layer is what. I'm going to group
these altogether now and fold them together. So now I have only two pieces of paper grouped ears as well. This will be my canvas. Textures. I can get fold of these two. So now I have only
one layer which can, which is completing
with my total campus. I was thinking I did resign. I want to resize my my
hedge brush for debts. I'm going to
duplicate the layer. If I don't like it, I always
have the original one. Let's get into the hatches and play with it a little more. I will have it all
the way feasible. What if I enlarge the hitches? Not too much. I'd be like so maybe not as feasible. Just less softer touch. We have this altogether. Let's play with
discovering how it works.
6. Exploring your Canvas with Brushes and Colors: In order to see if
it works for you, you can play with the
colors you will be using. Mostly. For me, I love the dark
blue backgrounds because you can create a night scene or a fairy tale or
something like that. And let's see what all
the colors we'll do. You see that in the
lighter shades, the darker marks won't
be feasible as much, but you see the lighter
scratches will still be there. And if you darken
depending office, the scratches won't be feasible. And if you're dark completely
somewhere around here, you won't see much of them. I think this is lovely. Now. You can also, for this canvas you'll be
using like for instance, if you think this
is a lovely color, but I don't like the
wild scratches there are too much then go to
your layers again. That's why you can call them the light and scratches and you can play with the opacity of that. So I hope it's still
feasible what I'm doing. So this will be
totally feasible, but way too much in your face. Make the opacity a little
less like 29 perhaps, then this will be lovely. So now we've got a lot of
textures created into Canvas. That's very easy when
you do a lot of drawings and you want the same
vibe in those drawings. But make sure your pelvis
is a little bit blend out. So if you have a
darker spots here and the lightest spot
there, that's okay. But sometimes it could
be annoying when you see the same hatches and
scratches everywhere. Make sure you don't have debts. You can also play
within the layers. Like for instance, if you want
something like this gone, you can clone it
like we did before. Also, you can just easily
rotate your canvas. So does the different
spots are at different places Is won't be
feasible to the one who's seeing your painting will see if you are using
those textures, cancers, over and over. Most people will
not recognize that. The fun thing is now that you've created love textures
in your Canvas, you won't be needing as much
textures in your drawing. So this will be an easy way
to speed up your drawings. Like for instance,
I would love to create a kits to crazy kids. I love crazy gets going for me. My to go to color is darker
blue one or maybe a gray one. I think for now I
use the gray one. And let's create always draw
underneath your Techstars, just do your textures. We'll need to stay on top. I'm annoyed by this one. It's much easier in my
layers panel to see. You can use a lot of
different brushes. You know, I told you I've got hundreds and hundreds of
sets of those brushes. But remember procreate
also have lovely brushes. For instance, check all your
brushes on this canvas. See what it does. For me. I like inker very much, so I go to my whites. Let's see what that does. It's lovely. Texture brush and I
like it very much. Now, you won't see a lot of textures because the
blend modes are two, set to color burn
and Color Burn, only used to call it below. So when there's no
color, you won't see it. So I normally won't
be using white a lot. Only when I need a true white. I'm going to a little Bish. Then you can certainly see
more textures going on. So the more you have
few color here, the more you will
see your textures. That will be fun. I think. So. I think my to go
to color for this one a little bit more brownish. Brownish, brownish,
brownish, beige. I think this will be
lovely, little less. I will keep that color. I'm going to use my income
and go on to duplicate it. I'm going to bring it to
my texture brush as well. I also the type Tyler soon
thylacine, is that a name? This is one fun part. Duplicate it and bring
it up all the way. Your textures. What do I use? All brushes you like,
but I'm working now with Procreate native brushes. I also like to sticks but I
don't know where to Sticks. We're I will see yes, this one is also one I like, so I'm going to duplicate it. Get it into the texture
said you can duplicate from same sets and
use them at once. Oberon, a nice one. That's also a lovely drawing. Yes. I also had the appropriate
as lots of lovely brushes, so check them out and use them. You can also use them
as texture brushes. Like for instance, if you
go to your artistic sets, I like the Hertz
brush very much. I'm going to duplicate that one. Came up. And it also wants
to all Beach one. I'm going to duplicate
that as well. The Herge brush. You can see now I've selected and I'm going to bring
them up to my texture. Now I've got to play with. Here, I got the marker
brushes I'll be using. Let's play and have some fun before you start and you
can play along the way, but make sure you
create a new palette. I'm making the plus sign
create new pellets. And it will appear all
the way at the top. And I will be creating
my color here. So I will keep saving debts. And mostly I turned to my disk and then I can
search for some colors. Mostly I also do a black
and white so it can easily tap to them and do
them always add right for me, that's
very convenient. But let's try to
create some textures I also would love in my drawing. So I absolutely brown. Yes. I want them to be with my inker brush because that's
my to-go brush for drawing. You see how lovely textures
will be appearing. Still adds the darker
textures as well. If I'm going back to my backgrounds and change
my background into white, you can still see the markings
on the colored layers, but you can only see
the white pulpy paper. But I think my white paper also has a lot of fibers
and I don't like that, so I'm going to change
that a little bit too for that part, going back into
your layers until your paper textures and my multiply layer can
be set a little lower. I want them to still
to be feasible, but not as much as they were. Yes. No, I like it. Change my background
color again. When I do my gray. Yes, I would love
to do the gray. So your B testing the
colors you want to use as much as possible. I'm checking now color for
his cheeks, rosy cheeks. I'm going to save that one. Well, it's just mostly
when I'm going to draw, I don't have a perfect blend, so you just see me
messing around a lot. Let's get this folded back into getter is folded back
into getter like this. And let's clear this area and now let's make
some drawings.
7. Start drawing a Simple Cat and the first layers of Texture : Remember for your drawings, always stay on the layer below. Well, for the sake of the video, I will be going to
draw a sketch first. Mostly don't do that
a lot when I drop it because cats are so
lovely with a simple shape. My God will be having
a couple of ears, body, a tail, some false. Maybe some feet, devil
becoming from his side. For me, this, this is GOT, everybody can see
what a cat is like. This got safe some
eyes, nose, and mouth. Sometimes they're grumpy kits. For instance, like this is
my sketch, not too hard. You know, be my now my classes. I'm a little bit messy
with my drawings, but what I like, I think that's where it will
give them more character. Mostly I don't do the
sketch and I go directly into my painting of the
whole cats with my ink. Birth we have Procreate, so there's always undo. We don't have to fear
of a blank canvas. I'm going to my inker brush. Big size about 40%. I'm going to do the shape of the kids in one blobby shape. I'm going to color
it just roughly. If I have some open
textures in it, I will leave it there. But remember, if you do a
clipping mask later on, I will tell you it
won't be feasible if you don't have to color
underneath covered. So you see I have little
open gaps and I liked that. So if you don't like that, make sure you've
got it all covered. You can do with drop
fill whatever you want. I'm going to do the ear
straight on top of that. Also in the whole body. The pulse are coming
in front of the cat. So I'm going to
reduce the opacity a little bit so I can see
where to pulse are coming, creating a new layer on top. Just some symbol sticks. It goes, I like simple. Some pulse. Don't have to be even. I like it when they're
not correctly done. I wanted to have
it till behind to get underneath the cuts. You always draw
from back to front. So the tail is coming
from behind the gut, but it's going in
front of the Gettier, but it will stay in
front of the gap, not drawn in front of
it pulse or his body. So I can do it on this layer. Such an easy till. Now, I'm going to change the
opacity full back again. First of all, I'm going
to group this one. Now I can change
the whole cat to a place I want him
to be in the Canvas, gets rid of the sketch. It's annoying me. Now. I want to give it a little
bit more shadow for me, this is my shadow side. My son is coming from upright. Let's get a layer on top of the body and make it
into a clipping mask. A clipping mask, you can
see the little arrow is directing to the one below. I can make as many
clipping mask as possible, but they all referring
to the picture below. When I'm going to create
a shared are mostly, I'm going to a little bit darker and a little
bit more cool. Downwards to the cooler colors. A huge size and maybe not as hard in the opacity because
I can always do more. I think this is still too warm. Let me check the go. Something grayish. Yes, I like that. It's warmer than this gray
but not too much gray. And I think you can already
see difference between the pulse and the left
side of his body. I will do the same steps
and the same colors. On any layer above. I have to same textures and shame feeling on
every piece of it. I create this to a
clipping mask as well. And also on it's still
a clipping mask. Now I'm going to duty. Till here it will be a little darker and make
them a little bit smaller because my
tail is smaller. I'm going to do the underside of the tail because
that's what shadow is. There. You can see also a little bit of
shadow coming now. And I will do that
also on his boss. So I go to the layer
on top of his boss, but then you can suddenly see no difference
because it's the same color. So don't be scared about that. It will work its way out later. Because this is only
the first layer. Then we're going to repeat that. So go back to the cuts, the clipping mask
on top of the gut, make it a little bit darker. Let's see what that does. Make sure you don't get
its two blended in. And now, when you do
the next to the policy, you can see the
difference again. Play with the colors. A little bit of blending
onto till already, but I'm not on the
correct layer, so it wasn't feasible. Fun part about the Hertz
brush instead of darken. So that's when you
tap on it again. I will leave the side
of it posts like this. The lower parts of a
false little darker. But now it's getting a way
against the background, so I make sure that
it will be a little bit dark and it's even more. Also do this on the tail parts. My typical dabbing. You get a lot of texture
in your objects. This can be a little bit
darker, again, bigger. You can play a lot
with the colors. You can also blend
it a little bit, but make sure you keep you here. What I'm doing is
having a dabbing. You will keep the
textures alive. If you go into
start smashing it, you will be losing the
textures right away. I think this will be
lovely as my career, maybe I can change in lending
some more colors here. Little bit. Well, let's continue with
some fun shapes on top, we can create more texture, but I want to do that later.
8. Adding Details and more Textures: I'm going to on top of
that to create his eyes. For that one, I want
white I want white ice. To my six be compressed. Little smaller size. Going to get very round eyes. Because I want it
to be funny cuts. This is one, mostly for me. It's hard to draw
the same one again, so I'm copying this
one and put it here. We get approximately
the same shape, same high as you can in
mirror imaged debts, or you can play with it. If you satisfy it. Keep a layer on top,
go to your black. Make an IV or smaller. I think he would get
something on top. Office hits. A little
sparkle in his eye as well. It will be funny already. He's gonna get some rosy cheeks. You know, I promised you
that already, maybe. And remember the noise
brush we use that will be lovely because
it's very soft. Materials, yes. Small size. A little bit. Although debts on
different layers. I'm going to give
him some excellence. Sketching just with six B
pencil is good enough for that. Maybe I will just
duplicate it as well and bring it straight
up to my pencils. Wait for it to darken. There. I will be using my black small nose like a little triangle. These very grumpy about it. So this will be my funny cuts. Little whites on his nose. The pink areas. I also want to have
it in his ear. So I go back to the
same color, pink, going back to my inker brush. You see you don't need
a lot of brushes to get a lovely painting now with a lot of texture already in it. I go to my kids making a
clipping mask as well. I'm going to make it on
top of the textures. Do I want to get now? I want to get below, and why do I want to get below? Because I want this
one on top maybe, but I can always
change that later. So let's color it. Does in do I want it? Now I did it on the same
layer. I'm such a dummy. Sometimes go back and
do it on this layer. I was thinking I can't see
the colors coming through. That. That was correct. Yeah, I think I want to stay
it's below because this one is also in the shadow
and the textures will stay on top
also in the ear. So that's why I'm going
to leave it like this. Now I want to play some
more with disbarred here because I want
this one to be more blended so I can choose
the perfect color. From here. I will be using debts. False. With my what will I use? Hurt brushed, I did use just to blend it a little
bit more so you can see the heart edges where the poles
begin and where they end. I think that's looked lovely. For the fun part, I wanted to create some
hairs, loose hair strands. So I'm going back to the
color I used before. Luckily, I saved it because
it's out of my history. I'm going to use that
with the six B pencil. Maybe look a bit bigger. Some funny ears. I have to go to the body
of the cat for that. Also. A little bit on top office ears. Let me go on top of this one. I want to draw on top. Maybe you can't see it. These hairs on top
a little bit more. Maybe I want some darker
ones as well on this side. Then you'll get more fair. I also want to have
a little nails. I will do that on the
same layer as nostrils. Do you sound it like nostrils? I don't know. I think he looks
funny like this. He's missing a shadow underneath and I think
that's very important. So I got all the way down. And I'm going to create shadow. Like mostly I will
do it with black, but I can change it later. Let me see. We didn't have didn't
do a lot of textures. That's okay. We can always do that. We can know what the opacity
look what it does there. Yes, and I think this one
is too much shadow here, so I couldn't erase
with the same brush. Mostly erased with
the same brush. That's way more natural. It will be lovely if you can see till is coming a little bit upwards so we can create shadow underneath there
as well, but loose. From the tail. Smaller. You can see it's way
more up in the air. I think that's lovely. Maybe
a little less feasible. So erase it a little bit. Because when he's
uplifting it to share the lobbyist heart.
Just a little bit. Well, let's play with some
more texture markers. We recreate it. I will do that
almost at the top. If I'm doing it
on the cat alone, it will be in the
group of the kids. And if I do it with
the whole surrounding, then I will do it on
top of everything. So almost directly
under the textures, I will put this on overlay. I know most my
marketing's with black because black overlay motors will darken every
color underneath it. Let's go and play
with some textures. So for instance, we made
this lovely script brush. We made some scratches and
etches already in here, but we can play with
the brush itself, like give it some more texture. It's lovely when it's going
a little bit outside because it defines more messy painting. If you do it. Every now and then, it will look like the
cat is also having a lot of color variation. And we can always erase, go back to the same brush. Erase the parts
that were outside, but mostly also erase with the same brush or you
don't get hard edges. This one has to be gone. You see what texture immediately
change your drawing. I think textures
are very important in you can play
with the opacity. So smaller and harder
textures as well. Erase with the same brush. We can create some fun market. So I will do mostly my different marketing's on
different layers as well. Because then I can play and
delete and edit and whatever. These are too hard here. So maybe I'll go change
the opacity of debt side. I think here they are lovely because this color is lighter. So I'm going to lower the
opacity on this side. Erase what's too
many outside of it. Let's see a new marker
overlay as well. This one was also very lovely. Let me see what that does. This one is too much outsides. You can see a lot of
different markers and texture in this drawing. But now what does he
need on top of his head? We have to think about that.
9. Drawing a tiny Mouse: I think he needs a lovely mouth. I think he will need
a brownish mouth. Let's get on top of debts. What brush will I use? The Inca is too large for
that now I can do it. Let me try. I'm not good at meiosis, but we can do it away bigger. Arish, snout is
just an indication and illusion of a mouse. So I'm pleased with
that little white. He has got a little, this is what I'm doing
all on one layer. So mouse had a little bit of pinkish ears as well. Blooms all does. Let me check. Maybe that we'll be doing on a clipping mask on top of that, a good idea to do it on a clipping mask so we won't
be going too much out of sight outside of his body. Same color. New layer. I'm going to create one
here and one arm there. Some false. Of course, he's got
a little pinkish. My mouse, it will
have more shadow. I can zoom in a little bit more. I'm going to discolored,
darkened it again using what we let you do
it with this brush it, I like this brush. For the shadows. I will go into the mouse, do another clipping
mask on top of that with something harder and cooler color creates the mouse. You see the arm I did here. So it's a little bit bigger than I thought
because I couldn't see it. I was too lazy to erase
the mouse a little bit or make it less
visible here I can see I went outside so I'm going
to erase that part. Clean up my mess. The mouse again. Now I can see its
little Paul better because you have to
texture and shadows. Maybe decided that also a
little darker edge brushes on the side of this arm out, it's on a different layer. Create a clipping
mask on top of that. Also under his feet and a
little bit more shadow. When I do some shadow, I will also doing
some highlights. So go back to the
original color, make them a little bit warmer
and a little bit lighter. I will be doing the same. So I'm going over this again. Am I on the body's layer here? So here it will be some live sketching, maybe even brighter. Drawing. It's just a
matter of light and dark. Get some things to life. Going into his arms and feet? Again, yes. Also a little bit of shadow
on it until you see now the mouse is coming to live because of the light and dark. Wasn't perfectly drawn. I can see where I
was going too fast. So also for that part, I want a shadow
and the highlight. So I'm going to add a
clipping mask for the tail. I'm going to darken it again. A little darker. On the same brush. I want my hedge brush. I think I liked this one. Funny how, how they turn out. Maybe even better sometimes
they thought before a little bit more. Purplish. The original color. Light again.
10. Final thoughts: So with the finishing
of this mouse, we came to the end of the class. So here's my results. And I hope you liked it. Thank you for watching this
class until the very end. I hope I have given you
enough information so you can create your own texturize
Magic Canvas yourself. Feel free to use any
brush you would like. But I just wanted to show you
in this class how you can easily do it with only the
Procreate default brushes. Keep on creating different
kinds of textures. What about blobs
or paint marks or, well, you name it and you can
create a texture out of it. This way. You can create your own liking. So it's up to your
own imagination. I hope you liked this class. Please do share your project in the projects and resources
section of this class. Because I, and maybe a
lot of other students want to see what you
created from this class. This was just a fun and easy
glass on how you can create different textures
already pre-made into Canvas with your own brushes
and your own imagination. It's an easy way to
speed up your process. You can easily
create a series of illustration with the same side. So thank you for watching until the very end and have fun. Please do leave a
review from this class. So I, myself and everybody else can see what you
think of this class. Thank you very much for joining and see you in the next class.
