1. Intro: Hey friends. Welcome to the really fun, short and easy class about how to draw fluxxy foxes in a watercolor. One day I draw them just because and put a photo in my Instagram and suddenly foxes got lot of likes and comments. I was so surprised and I decided to show how to draw them because it's real simple and really fun. There are three steps. Create a base in wet and wet technique, make a shape and volume using a squeeze brush, draw small details like eyes and nose. That's all. Of course, I will show and explain the each step of the approaches and be sure that you will manage with it. Press enroll and let's start.
2. Stuff needed: What we need? First of all, I would like to draw your attention to the paper. It would be very nice if it is a hundred percent carton paper with the texture of torchon. You can draw all the foxes on the one big sheet or to prepare a separate small sheet for each fox. Also we need the photos of foxes. In the process of drawing we will look at them. You can find the photos I used in the tape my project and download them for your device. Brushes in middle-size. A thin for small details and a large size to make the paper wet, it doesn't matter round or flat. Watercolor paints, paper tape, tablet, it's optional, a white gouache, water, paper napkins and pencil. That's all.
3. Basic techniques: Now, I will show you the basic techniques,of what we will use in the process of drawing foxes. The first one is a drawing on a wet paper. Where this paper previously was moistened with water and the result is a fuzzy steam. The second is creating a texture using a [inaudible] thin brush and a saturated paint on dry paper. Brush leaves something like prints. Exactly for this effect, we need not smooth paper but textured. We will use this technique to create a sense of animal fur and volume. Train this skill before painting of foxes if it's necessary. The third is painting small details using a really thin brush. If you feel that it's difficult for you to make thin lines using a brush, then you can use a black gel pen or a liner instead.
4. Colors: About colors, I use the cadmium orange, cadmium yellow, and a mix of them, red ocher or other warm brown, and payane gray or other gray or black for the darker places and details.
5. Fox 1: So the first illustration with which we start to draw is a sleeping fox. If we look at it closely, we will note that it is a fluffy oval. From this side it is darker; from this, lighter, and the muzzle. Step number one, create a foundation of the illustration in a wet-on-wet technique. Make the paper wet but avoid forming puddles. I [inaudible] the paper with the paper tape. In this case, a sheet is deformed less and doesn't move. Then take an orange and start to paint the oval. In this part, it is bright, and here is a shadow. So I add a brown and a little yellow on the light to beautiful gradient, and leave it to dry. Step number two, when the paint is dried, start to create the formant volume. You link and squeeze brush and a rich tone of orange, I paint what is behind of the muzzle. Try not to create sharp edges. [inaudible] , I make the tone lighter. There is a side of the fox. There is a large shadow. I take the brown and paint the ears. To find their correct location, look at the photo and note that if you divide the picture in the middle, an invisible line will run between the ears, so we have one ear from one side of the middle and the second from the other. Then I look at the [inaudible] and try to paint the dark places where they are. Now thinking about why they are here, where fox's paws or a tail are. Just look at this board and try to put them on paper. I take the yellow and add texture on the light. I want to fix the shape of the muzzle a little bit because I don't like it, become the better I think. Step number three. Now take a darker tone and draw the nose, eyes, ears. I take a thin brush and a dark tone and paint mustache and eye. That's all, our first illustration is ready. Congrats.
6. Fox 2: The second fox, let's look at it carefully and note the third shape and try to pay attention only to the contour without trying to guess where the paws are and how she sits; only the overall shape of the spot. I usually mentally divide the picture in half and look at what form by the one side and on other side. It's easy for me, try maybe for you too, and draw the contour of spot on the paper. The line is weak, you see and barely visible. In this case, it will not visible on the finished illustration. Then a wet in a paper, be sure that the water is clean. I usually use two containers with water; one for wetting the sheet and other for washing brushes. I start with large surfaces where there are no small details and doesn't matter if the paint will spread too much. Then when you can already predict the behavior of paint, you can start to paint more delicate places. Spot is ready and while the paper is wet, I want to add a darker tone here. If the paper has had time to dry out, don't worry about it; the shadow can be added later. The main thing is to have time to make a major spot until the paper is wet. Okay, leave it to dry and when the paper has dried, draw where the foxs' nose and eyes. Then I look at the photo and see that I need to make a neck little bit darker; highlight the nose. I make a weak solution of gray and very carefully paint the shape of the nose. The brush is squeezed. Don't ever do it with the tone now very gently. It's better to make darker later, if the tone is too bright, then overdo with the gray now. Now I take the orange and add a texture. Make darker in some places according by the photo. Note that the right side of the face is darker than the left. Now I add a brown because it is a shade place. Then I take yellow and add a texture of fur on the light side. Done. Go to the third stage, draw the details; nose, eyes. Eyes are almost round. I make darker around the eyes, not inside. Well the illustration is ready. You give a fresh look to it and add the finishing touches where you like. For example, I want to add to a little bit dark hair so with the eyes and also want to underline the ears and paint them more using a weak solution of gray. Add highlights in the eyes using wide brush and a little on the nose. That's how our station is done. We've got the very Fido's Fox.
7. Fox 3: Our third, fox. Carefully look at it, studying the form, and then try to draw it. Thoroughly wet the sheet. The form is quite complicated, so I will not draw on wet paper immediately, I'll wait a bit and give the water to soak into the paper. Two of watercolor spreads, but not much. Looking at the photo, try to draw the shape on the paper. This time, I didn't make a pencil sketch, but if you find it easy, of course, do it. Just try to pay attention to the general content not to delve into the anatomy. If the paper is still wet, then add dark tone. So it spreads gently. If not, then we'll do the same thing later on dry paper. The second step, create a volume and a texture using a squeeze brush. You just look closely at the picture and try to replicate. Take a dark tone and walk in the darker places. They're on ears, and then nose, at the bottom of the paws, eyes. Here, on the left of the nose there is a shadow. I make a weak solution of the gray and gently draw it. The last step, take a thin brush and walk on small details. The fox is ready, but I want to add a snow around it, as in the photo. Give the background to dry and create the effect of a falling snow using the white gouache. The winter fox is ready.
8. Final: Let's look what we got. Now you know the detail process of creating fluffy foxes, I think it's understandable that other fluffy animals can get painted in the similar way. You can draw a portrait of your beloved cat, for example. I would be happy to see your radical class project and get some feedback from you. If you really like the class, please give me thumbs up. Thank you. Enjoyable creativity to you. Goodbye.
