1. Introduction : Tataki zooming, an ancient Japanese
printmaking technique, also known as Flower
Pounding or hammering. Using an hammer to pound flower dyes onto
fabric and paper to reveal the transferring of natural flower dye colors
onto beautiful projects. Tataki Zome can be
applied to any season, anywhere in the world where beautiful flowers
and leaves blue. This is a simple to do,
perfect for beginners. Easy to create class with
no special skills required, except using a hammer safely
to pound away onto fabric or paper to create spectacular Floral and Botanical
patterns onto Wall Art, Birthday Cards,
Bookmarks, Gift Tags, Cotton Napkins and Tea
Towels for your home. This is an Art Full technique useful to use for Art
and Junk Journaling. It's a great way to
capture flowers from your vacation spot onto
your travel journals. This is an ancient technique so relevant today that
it just won't stop flower Pounding for Prints and Decor in your everyday life. I hope to see you
in class to explore different projects using this ancient Japanese
technique of Tataki Zome
2. Supplies: The first supply you'll need for this Class is a sturdy hammer, which are comfortable
for your hands. I chose to use the
smallest size hammer, which was a light weight, and I could easily use it
for a longer period of time. Hemos are measured by ounces. I used an eight ounce hammer
for this entire project. So next, we'll need some
cotton or linen fabric. I used 100% Cotton Fabric for all the projects
in this class. I used a mix of thick and thin. We've caught him. So choose a Cotton
that you prefer. You have a choice if you prefer, you can also use a
heavier stock paper instead of using fabric. Now, we can't use our hammer fabric and
papers without flowers, as they are the
source of our dyes. You can use any flowers
you have around you, which have thin petals
and a vibrant in color. If you have some flowers
growing in a pot, try these for this project. Oscar neighbors,
if they can spare a few petals or just visit
you Trustee garden center, or just take a walk and
look for flower petals in different kinds of botanicals
to pound for your project. Next, you'll need some
sort of like plastic. Here we have a plastic
container which you can cut off the bottom to
get a foot plastic cover. This will be used to cover our flowers before
we pound on them. You can use any
plastic besides this. We don't have plastic. You can very easily use
paper towel. For this class. I used both plastic
and paper towel for most of their projects. They both worked brilliantly. In this class. We pounded
flowers on a napkin, but you can easily transfer this technique onto a Cotton
Tea Towel for your kitchen. Now, for pounding on paper, we will need an envelope, some Greeting Cards, stock, Bookmark, and a Gift Tag. And please note, you can easily create your
own card stock Bookmark and Gift Tags at home
with heavier stock paper. And you'll need a Coffee
sleeve from somewhere. And Also, we'll be
using watercolor paper. I will only need to use what? Your watercolor
paper is optional. So next we'll need some
Ribbons or Bakers Twine. So you don't need to
go out and buy them. If you have any bits
and pieces at home that you can repurpose
again, please do that. And this will be, of course, for our bookmark and Gift Tags. So the remaining
supplies we need now, or just our Masking Tape. And any double sided
adhesive or glue eraser, a pencil, scissors,
and a whole patch. This Hole Punch will be used for our bookmark and Gift Tags. And then we'll need
some green Paint and we won't be using too much. It will be very small amount. So it can be any shade of green. You can either use
a light cream color or dark green color. All you can mix these colors are completely and make
a brilliant color. Next, we will need
a cutting board. So if you haven't all
cutting board laying around, use that or something
where you can hammer on top of the last supply. We need our Frames, and you can use
any size frame you prefer to display your work in. A quick tip here. If you
don't want to buy a frame, you can repurpose all
Frames you have at home. You can also very
easily use matching Frames to create a
three-piece Wall Art for your home decor
3. Measuring Fabric to Frame: I wanted to start
this project with three White Frames as I
wanted to create a set. And in it I wanted to pound a mix of flowers in botanicals. In the next couple of videos, we will work on these
three White Framed pieces before moving onto other
exciting projects. So here I have laid out my
piece of cotton fabric. And on it, I'm just going
to assemble my frame. And remember your frame
can be any size you like. And you can apply this same method that you'll
be seeing in this video. Now you can also use this plastic cover for
what I'll be doing next. However, I'm just going
to put it aside for now. And I'm just going
to take the back of my frame and I'm going to
place it down onto my fabric. So here you can see
with my pencil, I'm doing an outline which
will serve as our guide. And within these lines, and sometimes out of the lines will pound or
Flowers in botanicals. So I'm just going to
turn my fabric around. And I'm just going
to take my scissors. And I'm just going to cut
along the pencil lines, but keep a few inches from it, so don't cut on
top of the lines. I'm keeping a little bit
of space from the lines. So just a couple of inches. Because the reason
why we're doing is is we need enough space to fold it extra piece and
place it inside all frame. So no matter what size
frame you are using, this is how it will actually be looking
if you've measured out the squareness of your frame onto your
fabric or onto your paper. This is how it should look, is a very simple procedure
and very quick to do
4. Hammering Delightful Pansies: So here's my Pre cut fabric
that I did from before. And Pre cut three of these sites are three
of these for my Frames. And I just can't wait to get
started on my first one. Now there are so many
flowers around us that transfer that cause brilliantly
onto fabric and paper. Pansies are one of those
special ones that never, ever disappoint because of their exuberant colors
and thin textured petals. Actually make them
highly popular. And we'll all pound is. So here I'm just adding to place my first yellow pansy
right-side down. Now, don't worry if you see those tiny branches
here and my Pansies. I purposely left it there to see how it looks
when I pound. And I'm using Vibrant
Coloured Pansies and different sizes as well to create some sort
of a visual pattern. So you can place your
followers in a pet, in a pattern that you like. I'm happy with the way
this is looking like now. Then what we'll do is
we'll place our cut out plastic cover on top. So you can also use a
paper towel as well, which I also use. However, I favor using
the clear plastic most times because this way I can see how my Pounding
is progressing. So I'm going to take,
and I'm going to start Pounding right
around the flowers. And because these flowers
have thin petals, I don't have to work
too hard to pound, pound around the flowers of few times to make
sure that is enough bruising by the hammer to transfer the GI onto the fabric. I tried to concentrate on
the edges of the petals. This way the outline
of the flower will be Vibrant and
obvious of its shape. In don't hesitate to go
back and pound again. If you feel like it needs it. What you are doing is really bruising the flower petals to transfer the natural dye
onto either fabric or paper. And as you continue to pound, you'll start seeing through
the plastic that the petals are just releasing
the liquid dyes and everything is
just getting wet. If you see that, this
is pretty much normal, so don't worry about it, you're heading the
right direction. So while I continue
to pound away, I just wanted to quickly mention here that it's best
to do this outside. Especially the weather is warm. It's such a great
activity to get everyone involved to
make their own projects. And it's great to do
with kids as well. As long as the adult
is hammering for younger kids or child who's old enough to handle safely within the supervision
of their parents. Now this is such a
therapeutic activity. You feel great
after doing it and the project for your home
or gift to give away. As you see here, I'm
just going to take off this thick branch of out from the center and cover back
with the plastic on top. Again. Now, this part here has an orbital with
thickness in the center. So I'm going to
pound it a thickness down first and then I've
gone back and then my, my circle right around. So if you've come across
flowers that have like thick centers like this one, do the set thick center
first and then do you round circles around just so that it flares of flower out nicely. This way you're ensuring the color transfer well
onto your paper or fabric. Fine part after you've
pounded everything. All you need to do now is just have to peck at the edges with your
fingers a little bit. After all the Pounding, they get wet and stick
onto the fabric. I'm just going to slowly roll
and prod the Petals bank. Now I'm soy bothers shadow. But you'll be able to still
a bit more clearly as I pull back yet and you see
the color transfer on this is amazing
5. Mixed Pansies & Ferns: Now I've just started to pull back on the smaller Pansies. And you can see how vibrant the large Purple
Pansies turned out. So I'm going to continue
pulling the smaller Pansies. And I'm always actually so excited to pull
back on the petals. And I know you will too, because you really don't know sometimes how the color
transfer we look. Some and sometimes
you'll be pleasantly surprised from the unexpected. This is the one I eagerly
waiting to see the results. Because I saw this
the garden sudden, I'm thinking I really need
to see how this looks. Well, that came out
not bad at all. So after you've pulled
out all the petals, they're transferred petals
might still feel a little wet. So when that happens, I just take a paper
towel and I down here and there just
to likely try it. As I'm doing this, actually, my mind is rushing
as to what can I pound more to fill
this fabric up? Because I feel I want to fill
up some of the white areas. Here. I decided to pound. Ferns and France are
quite popular to pound because of their
distinct shapes. And they do leave a
wonderful impression on paper and fabric. So all you do is
just your place, your Ferns or any other leaf you using stem site down
the right side, up. And like I've gone on hikes and I found
interesting leaves and stems that I bought back to pound and I'm really
enjoying doing this. And the best part
of Tataki Zome me. He said there are no rules. You pound whatever
flower leaf you want in whichever
pattern that you like. And doing this journey, you'll see what
works best and give, and what gives you vibrant
colors, designs, and patterns. I really enjoyed Pounding
these Ferns. I really did. I just tried to make sure I hit all the corners and the center. Don't ever worry,
you can always go back and double up
a little bit more. Although areas you don't
think you Pounded enough on. Let's just see how this looks. There you go. I hope you like what you see because
I really liked this. I'm just going to
continue doing more. This is how it all works now. And before actually
frame this piece. And I'll be showing you
how I frame it later on. What I did was I
just took a light to a warm line and it just very lightly on the upside
down of the fabric. Not they're not the right
side where we pounded, but on the other side, the back part of this fabric, I just took it in to
it and unlikely I ended just to straighten
out any wrinkles. And you can do this.
They're very easily. And in case you're wondering, there was no leakage of
dye set pretty well, but you can, of course, you can watch this
fabric Buzzfeed wash. It is natural, Diana come out and this is how it
looks when it's all Framed. And what the best part
of Tataki Zome me. He said you can change up your fabrics anytime
of the season. You can alternate
your designs for, for, for summer, for spring. And I think that's
the best way to, best and versatile way actually to decorate
your home with florals and botanicals and give you walls and natural look.
6. Japanese Maple Leaves & Pink Impatiens: So I'm starting off on our
second of fabric piece here. This will be for our
second white frame. And I'm using a Hot Pink
Greaniums sewing up. There are Impatiens,
not geraniums. And I really liked the colors
like it's Rui so deep. And I know it will transfer
perfectly onto on my fabric. If we ever find that your
petals have broken off, just like I've done here. Just placing back into its
spot next to another petal and Pounded and no one will ever know it actually broke apart. So that's always a
good trick to know. The next thing we'll be
doing, the next row. I just wanted to use
japanese Maple Leaves. And they transfer very
nicely to these ones. I'm just going to
actually put them, the vein side down and
the right side up. So anytime you do flower
petals, you put the rights, the beautiful, the right side, the beautiful part down in the back part of
and full Leaves. You put the backpack down
and the right side up should always be showing that way if you're guaranteed a
beautiful transfer. And for the third row, I'm just using these
large yellow Pansies. Usually very light colors and, or white petals or
yellow colors don't, they do transfer
but not as bright. And depending on the shaded is because a deeper shade,
it'll transfer nicely. So just be aware of that. But some white petals have
believed, surprised me. I've pounded white Pansies with loop purples in the middle. And it actually came out quite nicely, like you do transfer. Beautiful. And it was surprised because I thought whiteboard
and transfer it is nicely. So it's still, the
trick really is to just try as many flowers. It you can pound to
see which one works. That's the best part is that we live in different
parts of the world. Any different variety
of flower that maybe somebody North America
wouldn't know about. So this is really a
very cool technique. You might not see this
brings to really getting wet under the plastic here, I'm using a clear
plastic instead of my heart plastic container. And you can just
see the transpire. Can just see if if you
look a little bit closely, we able to see as
you pound yourself, we able to see how the color
goes on to the thread, onto the texture of the fabric. And some leaves will need a
little bit more Pounding, a lot more Pounding
than the flowers. Because sometimes I find it in the Leaves
and it'll be dense. And just looking at
this yellow one, you can see it getting
bruised and it, It's assuring us that, hey, hey, I'm getting
all the fabric okay. Is getting into the
fibers of the fabric. That's a good indication that you're getting a good transfer. You'll be able to
see it as you pound. Then it's getting into
the fibers of the fabric. I'm just going to
carefully lift this. So as I remove the
dried crushed petals, what I'll do is I'll
just give dabbing. Each pedal is I go just
because it just became so wet. And it's surprising how these petals have so
much liquid in them. And you don't realize
until you actually pound. Just peeling back the
japanese Maple Leaves here. Just trying to reveal the
shape and the color here. And it seems like it
seems pretty light. So it shows me
that I should have Pounded a little
bit more stronger. Oh, my heart actually
stronger than the world. I should have pound
a little bit more harder. For some names. If you feel like it's
not as vibrant enough. The way weights come out
in the wave shape is. So you can actually go back and pound a lot more harder way, a little bit more force on your hammer to reveal those
really strong colors. But I still like the
way it turned out. I mean, it looks
beautiful here is every, every frame has its special
story and special colors
7. Hammering Hot Pink Greaniums: This is my last piece for my
setup, three White Frames. And I thought I
wanted to go with a bag with these
Hot Pink geraniums. And ever since I got these
from the garden center, I was so excited to see how we will look on
fabric and on paper. So I'm just going to start here. Just snip off just
the tips here. And I'm of each of the
geraniums and just look how beautiful this is a more
deeper Hot Pink, a center. And it has like
sheets or dark and light pink touches a light pink here and there on the edges. This is really, really
excited to do is just, it looks so beautiful. I'm going to start placing
this in a pattern that I like, reading a cleaving two rows. And then I'm just going to
pound it and see how it looks. So if you come across geraniums, if you've come across
a color like this, you can really think of so many ways to present
it on your fabric. So while I'm pounding
these geraniums, I just wanted to
another video in here, which is a video of a
geranium I did on paper. So just wanted you
to quickly see this while I pound on this one. I did this geranium on paper. And I just took the whole long Stemmed and I saw affects
everything around. So if you need to
pick some petals out, you can print the bottom
and then just covered up with your plastic
and just hammer away. And this was very
exciting for me. I just hammered away like crazy. And I did all the stamps
as well, the long Stemmed. Just so that I wanted to see how the impression came out of that. And take everything
I look at that. And he said that
color, amazing, chest, beautiful, just
beautiful indeed. Anyways, I hope you like that. So getting back to
our original project, I'm just finishing
up the last petal here and just see
how it looks now, this is the best
part, the reveal. Oh yes, I can see
the color noise, how the petals are like
white marks in-between. That's actually because I'm
holding the hammer at a slot. So you how much should
never be at a slot? It should be just touching flat. Like when you going down on your fabric or paper should
just be going down flat. Who hammering it
flat. Worse for me. I'm just sort of I
think my right-hand is it'll be weak so I
can go as hard on it. So I have a tendency
to solve slant, my hammer saw, EPC, those white marks in-between your petals like
you see for mine. You'll know that
it's your hammer. You're just slanting
it to one side. But I still like it. I'm not complaining. Absolutely not. Like
I just loved this. This is so magical. It really is this Technique. Tataki Zome zooming technique actually is the
Japanese technique. I love it. I wish I had
started on this earlier. The last time, the first
time actually I saw this was this technique being used was by my Art
teacher and a, and at that time I don't
think I was really interested in in Flower Pounding really. When you're 15 years old or 13, 14 years old, I wasn't
really interested, but I thought was really cool. But now I'm just crazy
for this technique. And I hope that when you do this project and you try out the different
flowers and leaves, that you get as much happiness
in Delightful illness. Like I felt doing this project. This is the exciting part. We have finally finished our tweet fabrics that we pounded on flowers on
three different varieties. And this is what
we've got so far. In the next video, I'll be
showing how, how I frame. And then after that, we're
onto other amazing projects. So I'll see you in
the next video.
8. 3 White Framed Wall Art: In this video, we're just
going to be finishing up. And I'm going to be
framing or geranium. The pencil line that we did earlier in the
beginning of the class. I'm just going to
fold my fabric on the other side of the
back part of my geranium. So I'm just going to run
my finger across my line, along my pencil line. You can is this if you prefer? I'm just using my fingers
to straighten it out. I'm just going to put
some masking tape. It it sits flush
against the fabric. I'm just using the
pencil as my guide. Falling, falling, falling
the fabric inward. My actual design is
flat on the table. So make sure that you don't
do it the other way round. So this is the right-side-up. And then I'm just
going to see where my folders this side. And you know how
he wrapped gifts. One is here because I wanted to sit flush against the frame. I'm just going to fold it
at an angle like this and just fold it in from both sides. And just put some tape. Just what everything
looks nice and neat. And when it goes
inside the frame, you just sit in it
nicely without having, without having any fabric
poking out on the corners. And just do the same
thing to the other side. A good time to cut away
any stray Cotton Fabric. And then just take your
your fabric and put it, place it against the glass. I haven't in this.
Just to show you. So when you do yours do
in it so that you'll take out all the crinkled
up the fabric. So that's how it then if you need to reinforce
with some all or Tape, we can do that right now. Just so it doesn't unfold. So we want to just make
sure it's nice and secure. All the four sides and
everything seems to sit flush against the frame. Then we just put up put up the backing and cons everything
in on all the four sides. So you can do this to whichever size way that you are using. This is how it all looks. Then you have a three
White Framed Wall Art. The best part of these
Framed Wall Art is that it captures your happiness
from a particular day. Like you can easily pound your wedding bouquet of flowers
given by someone special. Or you can just create
like a large scale of pounded flowers for your
home or your office. Or just make a lovely gift to give you a mom or your friends. So I really hope you enjoyed this section because we
will be coming back later. Do two more Wall Art Decor
9. Hammered Gift Tags: So for this section will
be heavily on a Gift Tag. And I loved Gift Tags
and I'm sure there's so many people are double
love it equally as I do. And this is such a
great way to make a Gift Tag unique to the
person you're giving it to. So I thought, okay, let's just try with them. The best flowers
I've experienced to this project versus
being geraniums. So I thought, okay,
let's just pound one single Pink geranium pedal and see what the result is. And let's start, let's
start doing this. And I hope you do
try this at home. If you enjoy it,
I know you will. You'll probably end up
pounding a whole bunch of Gift Tags for like
weddings or birthdays, which come more
often in our lives, and maybe weddings
and Christmas time, like Christmas Tags
with Winter flowers. I can see all this Vibrant
Purple underneath that, all these Pink
Palace and look at that way this is coming out. This makes me so happy to
see workout like this, so nice and I hope you find
the same happen is I'm finding right else's
beautiful, so beautiful. Now I just wanted to do this. I wanted to put a
section where I wanted to wrap a
gift or asphaltene and attach our newly made
Pink geranium Gift Tags. As far as this show you how
beautiful it looks when it's when everything
is wrapped up in the Gift Tag is on a gift, so I need a few here. This was a rather
impatient sided. So I'm just going to work
with the one we just have it. I'll ping geranium. Can depends whichever gift you rapping no matter what size, it doesn't matter whether you're using and you can use a rivet or you can use Bakers Twine. I'm just using a very
simple soft ribbon here, making it a nod. And I'm just going to put my
Gift Tag and right through, take the center and
just make a lot. You can tie a bow as
well if you prefer. Let's make it really pretty
any see how already it just has elevated the
whole entire gift. So this is just
beautiful way to present a birthday gift for either special occasions,
for weddings, mess. You can do Winter flowers and whatever is
available for Winter, for seasonal flowers and
pound them as well or Leaves. So this is just a wonderful
way to save money. To be creative and be
happy what you do. And it's such a
stress reliever twin, it gives you instant happiness.
10. Print Napkins & Tea Towels : So in this section, we're going to actually
be pounding on a napkin. So I'm just going to
open up our napkin here and I'm just going to
fresh from the store. So I know this is the part
where I want to pound my flowers because
that's how it will be sitting on the plate. It's going to open it up and I know which which
rectangle pipe will be folded down to the front part wave will
be shown on the plate. So I've just marked pet here. I know which one it is. And I'm just going
to place my flowers. I can mixed Pansies. And I'm using actually here for first-time
me using hydrangea, wanted to see how
hydrangea would look. So hydrangeas go
right into Fall. So if you're looking
to do this in fall, they can also use
hydrangeas at time. Two other flowers to bleep me that I haven't even tried it. I know I voted on weight. So the ISO in a little bit of a pattern
here as you can see. I'm just excuse the
shape. My camera here. It's right above me and
it's attached to the table. So it's it makes shakes
with the tail as I hammer. So let's see what we
come up with them. This step can have this style. You can actually or rather
this technique and can transfer this technique onto
your Tea Towels as well. So Napkins, here we go, We're coming back everything, so we're getting this
beautiful color, honest, natural, dynamic go. I love that prevalent in these small ones.
Never disappointed. And I really like how the
hydrangea came up to. Maybe I should have done a
little bit more Pounding, but I am still very
happy with it. This is how it looks.
And this is how it looks when you place it onto our playing in the
folded neatly on it down. This is like a beautiful summer setting that you can do for. You can take this technique
to Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter with whatever flowers there that are available to you. Come up with this
beautiful design, this beautiful pattern
and all natural, naturally dad, and it
makes you happy, right? Pounding is such a
stress reliever. And you end up with this
beautiful Home Decor. Guests. We love your
Napkins and Tea Towels and the way it kinda gets
into the grain of the fabric and just
becomes been Vibrant. Hope you all try this too.
11. Gallery Style Birthday Card: So in this video, in this class
actually are going to be doing a couple
of Birthday Cards. And here's our first one is called a gallery
Style Birthday Card. And as you see here, I've just
folded over my card stock. And if you don't
have a card stock, you can use any
other heavier paper if you have around in your home. And I chose to use watercolor paper to
pound my flowers on. The reason being it's a lot more heavier than the card stock. And it's also a little
bit of a texture as well, which I'll show me in a moment. And I just wanted it to fit over my card stock and give
it a gallery feel. If I pound on my flowers onto
this paper and put it onto my card, stock election look like a Frame painting hanging a gallery
by famous artists. You'll be the famous
artists because you'll be Pounding you flowers onto it. For this one, I've just taken a watercolour paper in empty is going to actually tape it
down with my masking tape. This is just so that it
doesn't move while I pound. I'm going to go down if my first petal here and that's
my white pens, either the peripheral
designs in the middle. What do you walk into? Work it into a sort of a pattern here I have a lot of
flowers this time. For this particular ones, I was wanted to fill it up
as much as I possibly could and get as much
pounding down into it. And have a lot of
colorful varieties. So it would look like it
looked like a painting. That's what I'm
actually going for him. He's going to arrange
it here a little bit anyway with a white Pansies had mentioned earlier that sometimes white doesn't come out nicely. Well, I'll show you
how in this class, in this piece actually, how the white turn a
little bit yellowish, which I kinda liked
and I didn't, it didn't disappoint me this
particular white Pansies, the one the middle of
the Purple design. How do we can read everything, something attached to the table and that's why you're
experiencing this. Alport. Apologize for that. But if you look at my hammering, write down all getting wet, especially the
ones at the top of the three petals see
of the side to the, to hear the site. And some surprises me how these, It's so much liquid in
them when you pound them, don't and you have to go really hard and pound to get a column. Here. We aren't just going to live this and see how wet it is. Because all it Pounded all that extra liquid that came off from within the petals. Here me go. Look at that. And the white ones see it leaves that sort
of a yellowy feel. The cortisol, why it is has
a yellowy maybe light is not green but light yellow
color to it. I like it. I'm glad I place it in
the center because kinda, kinda like the main focus. This is how it looks.
For some of them. I've actually left the Petals on and I didn't remove them. Now show you that in a moment. So here I'm just going to take my double sided
adhesive tape here. Want that center roll. Just going to go around
the four corners. And you can even
double-sided tape or any other team that you have. Anything is true as well. Eyeball it to the center. This way, Gibbs, the
Card and gallery feel like card is still
a little bit wet. Take place on the strike
panel. This how it looks. See these petals here. I didn't remove them, I just let it sit there. Was stuck. So nice to end. It looks so pretty so.
It's a quick tip here. If you want to leave some
of the petals in your work, you don't need to pull them out. Keep them there
because it does look very I truly think
that people are actually going to
love to receive a card where all the flowers
and his pounded by hand. And it's being memorable and Delightful to receive
something like this
12. Long Stemmed Farm Flowers: In this section,
we're going to be creating long Stemmed
Farm Flowers. And I use 100% Cotton Fabric
in a more heavier we've so I've already pre-measured my frame and I've already
penciled in an outline. It I'll flower Pounding
inspiration for this project is coming
from Farm Flowers. I wanted to create green
stems from my flowers. So I mixed two colors together, green, light green and
dark green paint together. You can use either
color or mix it. So just by taking my brush, I'm painting long green
stems across my fabric. So you end up with something
that looks like this. So you can go right across you fabric and make
these long Stemmed. They don't have to be
really straight lines. They can be whichever
lines you prefer, you can have them
bending over or have them little bit straight a little bit off to this side. You want to have
given natural log. So this is what
I've done so far, and now I'm just
putting in some leaves. And basically I'm just loaded
some on my paintbrush. I'm just pulling it it loads it into right into
actually the stems. So you don't have to be a brilliant painted in doing this. You can just make
your, even when create your own Leaves and just
keep them as simple lines. I'm just doing it. I'm doubling it up as Leaves. But if you're a great
painter and you have some ideas of how you wanted to Leaves, go
ahead and do that. You can keep it as
simple as you want. Filled up my entire fabric. Wherever I wanted, Leaves, fill them up with Leaves
and His word, god. For this one, I want
to try out carnations, and then I have
some light purples and a little bit gives reddish, reddish orange ones in
the pink ones mixed and I have dark purple
tube in a dark pink one. So I'm just going to mix
them up with my Pansies and see what sort of effect
I get with carnations. Because they stick
at the bottom. I just peeled pill them apart, made them into small pieces
so that I can I could work with them much
more easier way. I just took the pills, take them apart and I just said, tasted in a floral pattern. We can round circle. So they're not attached at all. Knows. You can use whichever follows
you want and you can create it exactly like this. Or the different way
that you prefer. This is how it looks
when I've finished, when I finished Pounding. As a ligand is still very light. The formula, and I love that
you like the Purple it. But I wanted to have a little
bit more depth to them. I could've just used used
all carnation on this one. I thought we just mix
them up a little bit with them with Pansies. I've pounded some Pansies here
to show you how it looks. And I've yet to peel
back the, the petals. But this just, so you
have an idea what I did. And I'm going to show you right
now the finished product. And this is how it looks, is our finished frame of
long Stemmed Farm Flowers. And I went back like Pounded few more other colors into
it to give it a for loop. This piece is a great way to capture your Summer,
capture particular season. Capture a travel
destination where you pick flowers
and you hammered it onto your fabric to
bring back home. And this way, it'll become
a great piece to display by your bedside table
in your office, in your home office, or in the bedrooms
of your children. And there's also a great
piece to put on the mantle. It's a perfect piece
to put on a wall or on a table where you're serving
afternoon tea or high Tea. It's a great accompaniment
to your Home Decor.
13. Starbucks Birthday Bouquet Card: So this is going to
be the starting of our starbucks Birthday
Bouquet Card. And we're going to use
our coffees Leaves from our starbucks to
create a flower pot. If you don't have
a Coffee sleeve, No worries, use any other
small piece of cardboard. So open up your Coffee,
see a wide-open. So it should look
something like this. You'll be able to see all
the groups at the cardboard. Turn it over and draw
the line right across the girl's eyes and two lines on the opposite sides
of the cheek going down. So your drawing will
look like a flower pot. Then take your scissors and
cut up your flower pot. And this is the way she
looked the groove side up. Take a double-sided tape
or your glue and glue, you flower pot down
onto your card stock. So for this part, we need to gather some nice beautiful, Vibrant
Coloured petals. And we are going to
be pounding them onto our flower pots so that it looks like we have a Bouquet
in a flower pot. So here I've already
Pounded some of my geraniums onto
the flower pot. So it feel it looks
like it's a Bouquet. I've used two colors
of the geraniums. I've used the orange
one and the purple one, but I still see
those whitespaces just above the flower pot. So I want to put maybe
some extra flowers on, maybe flowers that are more defined so I can see the shapes. So I'm going to go with my tried and tested
my small Pansies, the yellow and purple ones here. So I'm just place them onto the spaces where I
think I wanted some, some, some definition
and I wanted the shape of the thought
pills who really show up. This is how they look. I find this pretty so beautiful because
the way the lines have just just define
themselves and the petals, I actually don't have
proper, they look blue. So that's blue and yellow
and didn't have those. The center part of
it looks beautiful. So anything that will make it look like a Bouquet,
any flowers. So any flower petals, that's what you need to use. So you will give you
some natural definition. On your flower pot. You can create just about
any message on this card. You can by thinking
of you and you can do a happy
Mother's Day card. In all I used was a little bit of Plain washi tape
to write it on, right. My message on. Another one I tried was these
maybe go Leaves, the stems. So I just took to the two stems and put some plastic on top, just like the way we
do regular Pounding. This is how our Leaves
looked after we pounded it, and then when we remove
the plastic cover, this is the impression
it left. A quick tip. You can always do
a combination of Leaves and florals together. Wanted to make a
proper stationary set for our birthday card. And I thought, okay,
let's pound on our envelope and
see how that looks. If you have Plain
simple envelope, they take a hold of that, insert a couple of paper
towels folded in half, inserted inside the envelope. Turn it over the
she looked like. Then choose a
flowers you want and preferably have those flowers
match the card inside. And then just pound on
your, onto your flowers. In this way, the impression, just stay in the front
of the envelope and you won't see to the
back of the Cards. So a backup the envelope because in-between you
have a paper towel. This is how you card. We look very pretty addressed to the person with the pounded
flowers next to it. I hope you enjoy
making this card because I think
it'll be a cardinal. Make anyone stay
where they to mom, your grandparents, your friends, your sister, your daughter. At the you could definitely put a smile on someone's face.
14. Hammering Matted Purple Pansies: This portion of the class, we're going to be
using a Matted frame. So I've taken them on my frame apart and I've taken
the mat out here. The mat has that groove,
it's slanting group. And what I would do with that, if you're using
something like this, it flip it aside, flip, flip it on the other side. Take your pencil to trace
the inner lines of the mat. If you're using a frame that
has a mat on it like this, this is what you want to do, is draw the line inside
the mat, not outside. So then when you're, when
you're actually putting a frame together after
you Pounded your flowers. Flowers are going to be a
Pounded inside the square and your mat will be on the outside a little look like a
gallery framework. I found this really
beautiful white frame. And I thought, I'm just
going to make it all Purple, make all the flowers purple. Then the white matting on the frame and the
framework itself. We'll just, because who calls up the purple flowers
will just pop out. So that's my experiment
for this one. I'm just going to be
using all Purple Pansies. And I'm just going
to hammer them all. And it will see
what the result is. This is how everything
is coming along. So far. I've three large Purple Pansies
and all the rest of them, the rest of the
space, I'm filling them up with the
smaller Pansies. This is how my final
setup looks like. If for some of the petals, I've actually put them below
the line as you just saw. So you don't need to have
it all inside the line. You can have them coming
out of the line is all going out of the line
so that it looks very natural and it look like as
if it was just placed there purposing or just
throw on on the frame. These large Purple Pansies actually took me a
long time to bruise. And I really don't know why. I'm thinking maybe the
petals for more mature. I think. I don't know. I'm not a botanist. But he just felt like that
you might come across a few flowers that are
like that and some of petals will be just
like so easy to do. But anyways, this is how
everything looks down. If I was having second thoughts, I was thinking I would just
not even remove the petals. I will just leave it as it is. So you can do that as well. I'm definitely going to,
going to go ahead and try that for one of my other
frames that I have, I won't remove the flowers, I'll just leave it as it
is and have it all dried up against the glass case. The frame. I think there
will look very pretty. But here I've pulled
out all of the, most, all of the petals here
and this is how it looks. I think I like that. The fact that
everything is Purple and you wish you
can do the same, you can do it on
pinks and purples or yellow flowers or all orange
flowers maybe for Fall. I'm just going to pick away
at some of the last ones, few last ones here. And then together, we'll frame
this and map this properly
15. Framing Matted Purple Pansies: So this is our final piece, and we're done taking out
all the dried Petals. Enamel is going to put
my mat and white on top. Then you can see how, how it changes the whole
look of the flower petals. And what we need to do for this one is we need to
actually turn this over. We need to just see how much excess fabric we
have on all the four signs. They'll just take a
Scissors and we'll just snip and all the sides. So I suggest don't see
bidding large portions. Snip each side in increments so that you don't go so deep where the opening
of the matters. So then if you were to do that, you wouldn't be able to have the Fabric stay flush
against the matting. So just keep checking that you don't go into the empty space of the mat and then you'll just
that you fabric is within the outer limits of the opening of the
rectangle of the mat. So I'm just going to do all
the sides here a little bit and keep turning
it over to check. And if you see any pencil
marks at this point, you can erase them. Now I just want to put my mat, my matching actually on top of my fabric to see if I need to do anything extra or if anything is missing that I can do now. So I was thinking this part
here was looking empty, that I should maybe Pounding other flower or maybe just pound a half of it just
so that it comes out from the side and into
the center a little bit. If you feel like at some point when you were doing
this project that you feel like something's missing or there's a
white blank space. Go back and in pound
sum of Floral, some flowers into it. And I'm just Pounding
actually half of the pedal, not all of it was only half
of it will be exposed to us. See the difference? You just put your
mat right there. You can adjust it to how
much you want it to be seen. I think I like it like this. I'm just going to
keep it as it is. But I'm glad I did that. And then just like the rest of the frames that we
worked on previously, you just want to use
your masking tape and taped down all
the four sides and continue to cut the
edges as you go by. And you can use the
mapping as a guide. So you know how far you've
reached your cutting. So you don't make deep cuts. Just a quick tip
here when you're placing your masking
tape on your fabric, just give a little
bit of pull towards yourself. When you tape it down. Just to stretch their
fabric out a little bit. You in wouldn't way like just pulling it slightly
towards yourself onto the Masking Tape just
so that everything else in the middle and older
sides gets treated out. This is how our piece
looks all Matted and came down and put the glass
back onto the frame. And I'm placing the
work in the middle. And I'll final cover of the frame work here at
the backing goes down. This is the piece that we have. Imagine this piece on a
buffet table at a wedding, or we used all on your patio. So you can do so much with the flower pounding and just
create your own Art Decor. It's actually a great idea. If you have all Frames
laying around in your home, you can actually paint the Frames and even
Paint it to match though your Pounded file is a great
way to decorate your home.
16. Floral Bookmarks: Bookmarks, I loved the world
over buy book readers. Nothing is more
exciting and FUN. Then an inspiring bookmark
to insert in your book. Here. As you can see, I've just finished pounding on this Bookmark and I've used
some of my favorite flowers. I've used my different
colors of geranium. So I used to have a pink
ones and one orange, and I used one pansy
on the side as well. Now, you can make
your bookmark as exciting and adventurous
as you want by using the most prettiest
unusual flowers that you can find from wherever you are in your
part of the world. And you'll be
pleasantly surprised by the amazing color dyes that gets transferred
by these flowers. You Bookmark should
be as beautiful and interesting as
the stories you read. So here, I've just
removed all of my hammered flowers
from my Bookmark. Going to double hope
Punch my whole here. I'm just going to make it a
little bit larger so I can just put my ribbon through
it. All my string. Oh, my Bakers Twine, whichever one that you using. So I'm just going to use
my purple ribbon here. I'm just going to
cut it through. I'm going to fall it in
half a little bit here and take the half
part from the middle, twisty a little
bit and put to the whole just open
up the other end. Would these to loose ends
right through it and pull. I didn't take the ends of your ribbon and they
just wanted to fold it. And doing angle cut, this cut is called
the duck tail cut that you do at the end of your Ribbons just to
keep it a nice slope. So next, I wanted to do a
different looking bookmark. So I just took a single
watercolour paper and glue down a page
from an old book. I wanted it to have
a different shape and not to have the
usual bookmark shape. So what I did was I loaded it with different looking
flower petals in, experimented with a field. So finally I got
something like that. Then what I did was I painted my Gift Tag with a couple of petals and attached it to the larger bookmark
with a ribbon. I hope you enjoy making these Bookmarks and I
would like to wish you happy hammering and pleasant readings with these Bookmarks.
17. Large Floral & Botanical Print: This last, final Floral, Botanical Print, I
thought to myself, I better go big. Go home. Went and
got a large frame, measured my fabric and
frame up the center with Masking Tape instead of using a pencil like
we've done before. So for this last large piece, all the flowers I had
a hand and combine a variety of leaves to
this piece of fabric. As you can see him. So
I started off here with geraniums and I want to
place them in a row. And then I use these very
small intricate Flower Petals. There are called Collin County. And actually I came across
them maybe for the first time. And they look very pretty
and very educated. They come in like purples
and pinks on one part and fill up my as all the blank spaces
I filled out minus, we'll just finish up using all my beautiful Pansies
and fill them in, into all these corners
and they'll spaces and get as much color as I possibly could
into this fabric. And I wanted you to botanicals. And I thought to myself, instead of a Pounding my botanicals, I'm just going to take
my leaves and I'm just going to paint turn them over and paint the vein side. So then I just saw if you're doing the
same thing like me, just get it gets skipped some
colored paint, some greens, some light dark green
to light greens, and just load your paint into all the crevasses and all
the corners of your leaves? Just over here. And they want I did, but you just turn
it upside down. This is something we
had done in school. I know most of us have done this because I didn't plan this out and I didn't
have some sort of a rolling utensil or or, or rolling pin to
roll over my Leaves. I just go to I just grab one of a hat on
my desk and I just got this empty tin and just
press down onto the leaves. I hoped I'd have my fingers crossed that it would
come out nicely. So if you already do this, use some sort of a
rolling pin or something or small bottle that
you can just roll. Audio Leaves are Book
is pressing down. So I also want to just sort of not just have one
carve-out, one club Gouin. I want to just mix it up with light green and
dark green paints and mix those two
paints together. And I love more.
As you see here. I'm just, I took
the empty bottle, bottle and I just wrote
it on top of the leaves. So we can do it a few times and just so that you
can give some good, some sort of a leaf Print. And it came up very nicely. So this is what I've got so far. Some hydrangea leaves, I used
up, some marigold Leaves. I use some level
the leaves as well. And I just loaded
them all up and I kinda figured out
how I wanted to do. We're gonna use the paint
and just went for it. I just went all over the spaces. And this is what I came up with. And I'm quite happy with this because I really do want
to produce something really large like this and
have all my petals here. This is for me, this
project was more like on to other projects that
I'm planning on doing. A great way to
decorate your home. And I know that I'll
be doing this more often and for every season. And just look at the
vibrancy of this fabric, the designs on it like this. It will look very pretty
in your living room, in your home office or
anywhere you want to decorate. A gorgeous piece that it's a piece that you can create yourself and be very proud of. And definitely will give you a smile at the end
of the day for sure.
18. Pounding on Clothing?: This is just a FUN piece. I'm just inserting
at the end here. I was wanting to see how
it would feel to pound some flowers onto
Clothing because we've done it on hundred
percent Cotton Fabric. But I thought let's try
and do it on our t-shirt or a cotton shirt. So this is just a FUN experiment and I'll let you decide
if you like it or not. I used, took my cotton shirt
here and you can all shirt. It's totally worn out. But what I did was I
thought I'll just take some files in pounding on the
pocket section of my shirt. So I tucked, enfolded some people Towels and it
took to it inside the pocket. And then I chose some
flowers that I had. I'm like hydrangea. And I'll put my hydrangeas
in a pattern here. And then I use some
other flowers and then I just pounded it like crazy. And I'll show you the result in just a
moment is, and here it is. And here's how it looked. Now remember you can use
any flowers that you want. I have actually
Pounded most glue, all of all of my potted flowers. So this is how it
looks close up. So it's nice and vibrant. And I, one thing I realized
I should have pounded it a lot more harder than
I was actually doing. And why did was I felt okay now that I've
had this design, let me just go put it into the wash and then I put
it to my first cycle, and then I put it through
the dryer as well. So this is my result right here. So this is the
first wash and dry. And it can still
see the sustains, but a lot of it have have gone, but you can still see, I think those yellow stains right here. And the blue from I think
it was from the Pansies. So anyways, just be aware that these flower dyes are
permanent. He had washable. But from what I've seen, it is washable but it
does leave some stains. So I did another experiment. I did, I took my t-shirt and
I made a design here with some Pansies and geraniums
and some Ferns actually was, it wasn't Ferns, it
was some other Leaves. So I took my t-shirt and
I do the first cycle of my wash and I put it into their drawing and I took it out. And this was my results
from my first washing. So this is my first wash and
you can still see the steam. The flower colors are gone, but the deeper in a
stains are still there. I will suggest if you are
going to be doing this, always pound on to really all calling to see if you like it. I personally not true
if I wanted to do this in room my good Clothing. So what I did was I did
this a second time. I took the same
shirt, went through the washing machine
again and drier. And this was, this
was the result and it didn't make any
much of a difference. So I might go back to
Pounding again if I want, maybe later you want to
give it a shot again. But for now, I don't
think I want to palmar my clothes to
get all those things unless unless I figured I might as well just when I take my really all
white t-shirt again, just Pauli's much
flowers as I possibly Claire can all over my t-shirt. And then maybe after I've
washed it might look like I titled t-shirt
or something like that. So I hope this experiment
helps you to see the result of it after your
Pounded work is washed. So I hope it answers
some of your questions, but if you love what you see, please do pound on your clothes. Just be aware that they
do leave some stains
