1. Intro to Floral Composition: Hi, guys. I'm Esther Peck, Altar of a right to floral watercolor. In today's lesson, I'm teaching you step by step floral composition. This is a class for everyone, whether you're new in painting or someone who has been painting for some time. Often we have no problem with pitting country. But when it comes to floral composition, our brain can go blank. So what? ISS floral composition? It is the term to describe the arrangement off the visual elements in a painting on at work . 2. Why Floral Composition: part of this class. I'm going to teach flora composition. This is a topic that many of you have been asking often. When I teach a class a workshop, students told me this struggle so much with from a composition. Sometimes he stared blankly at the paper for several minutes just to get started. We felt pieces. 4. Let's Focus First: In our previous lesson, we talk about the seven elements for a successful floor painting composition. Let's that this focal point firstly are painting is to have a focal point. 5. Create Balance: The next element that we talk about is called balance. A balance painting that's not need to be symmetrical. In this painting, I use different sizes of elements the balance, the secular REITs. I have a deport and a teacup the way Okay, way heavier to sit on the bottom off the reef. And these are the smaller elements. And they're pretty related because it's like a tea party. And I have tea cups. I have a teapot. I left. My car is a flower. I'm trying to say that I'm having a tea party in a garden. And so I have these macaroons and flowers and mine filler flowers and paler leaves surround this wish. So this is a very well balanced design, and I use a touch off like ruin the center to bring the whole painting united them together , even without this is fine. So unity is another element that you might have to remember in this painting, which I also talk about in my cherry blossom class. I have the Preach one to join up the whole painting and so you wouldn't look that car. The cherry blossom is hanging in the air. Yeah, even for these the same And the branches. So unity is pretty important too.
7. Contrast is not just about Colours : the four elements that we like to talk about This contrasts contrast come in terms of sizes , colors, angers and ships of elements. And this at a lot of interest to your painting in colors. We talk about complementary colors. So you see, in this color wheel we have great and green, red and green are complementary. So you see that any flowers arrangement red and green when go wrong, because our roses always come with the reefs. So in this con trusting, this is so but a being even for here. My contrast is about the size is I have a lunch flower and I had these rose that is turning to us one site. So I have different angles, and so and wonder is facing the front in this painting, we're talking about colors. We're talking about the sizes with camera angles and also the shape even for these two, your C. I have two roses that's pointing looking at me and one is theater site site, and one is so you're pointing another way. So again, for this painting, we talk about the different sizes, the Carless, the angles and the shape in this painting. Yeah, you'll see that I have the friendship again. My fly was are not all phasing me one is facing me. And then this one is pointing that site and one is coming this way. And eso I have different size again. Different colors the ship again for this reef. You see that? This, uh, there's lots of flowers here, but yet having this contrasting the colors are not very contrasting, but with a lot of different size. Er's you see the flowers, it looks messy and yet it looks united with the contrasts. You see that I have some feel of flowers here, and my flowers are all different anger. And it's with this different shapes and sizes that make the whole glory looks very interesting. And I have one more sample. This is also about complementary colors. In my color wheel, you can see I have violet, brick, violet and green. So with this complementary colors, the contrast is there awful. I important So but you miss out one. I think it's still okay, but it was definitely a lot of value to your painting
8. Appealing Odds: It's good to be back. And now we are at the fief room. Karhu off. What's a painting? Usually looks more appealing when there's an art number off subjects. It is interesting to know that we are more attractive toe uneven composition. Look at this painting. They're Fife roses there. If I were to remove one, I said this, I don't know. It just looked like is not complete. And perhaps that's what I had a site Flubber. Here. Let's see more examples, and it's very interesting to know that when I'm painting all these flowers somehow I just at an extra flour. I didn't really have this rule off what's in mine, but it just come to me that one extra flowers looks better. So in this composition I have to lunch on one small pureness. There's lots of examples. The puny is that I've done quite recently, these two, and when you're looking at all this may be your thing off. Some off the elements that we have learned, though I have the rule. What's off three flowers. You can see that they are also at different angles. If I had to, I think it's just not balance. So I have one more and in this painting I have three again. Interestingly, if you just cover up one, it kind of looks so interesting, right? And by looking at this again, you thing off my other elements that I have spoken to with you and this I have three mean flowers. This one. I can really consider us number four because it's very freed it and is turning one site. So this is still applied to my Ruoff. What's I have a lot of examples, So usually I pain in threes really fine and really one already seven. So it's usually tree flowers. So again, there's three here, and I embarrassed them with the Berries for this one, and you should their sets off three again when I have three of three sets offer from relieves and a tree sets off for second. The release and tree sets of their recent losses. So they're pretty, very balanced and very safe. In this composition, they receive back to a very safe composition again. So you see that I always pain with these composition tree flowers. Three primary leaves. Three second The release. In this case, I have black. Only two Scylla. Puny butts. Yeah, and as I say, very rarely. I have one for how would so for this one I have a puny a very lunch purely here. And I balance them with smaller flower, small up your knees and some distance. One shadow. So it's still look balance. And this is still my focal point. Yeah. And also I mentioned. Okay, look at this. This this base has done a very, very long ago when I was planning to paint my pure knees. Yeah, so it's really called a circular flow reef. And yet I start beef the center, and I have one bottom and to balance. So I have three, and then you have your mean Do you see it over here? And then I just at some Berries. So it's still applied to rule pots. OK, lastly, I'm going to show you this. Look at this painting, which I have done. Yeah, I think several years ago, maybe three years ago on. And maybe I put it this way. Am I looking at this? There's only two flowers. And I was learning at that speech. I was I was learning how to pin the flowers, and I wasn't really kind of thinking much about the composition. So this piece, I kind of like this piece, But I just know that something is missing. So what Today, when I was teaching about Ruoff, What's I look at it again? And I think Look what happened. If I add in a touch flower, let me see. Russia Position? Yes, you by position it here and earlier on we have the usual. I have my Justin want to make it too heavy. If I have this Prem release year. Okay, I'm going to make it a lot stronger. My painting, the tree flowers and okay, I'm not gonna make it to complicate, because it really doesn't have to be too complicated. I just at you some ball secondary release. And even without the Phelan flowers, I think I'm quite then with ease. Three flowers. And if I want toe in Mr Stewart Heavy and think it's still baby. I think we are done with just having three flowers and on some more lease. Yeah, yeah. You see what I mean? Right, But learning about your composition really have you to pin a lot better, so I hope you'll come back for two more elements.
9. Space or no Space: in this lesson way we're going to talk about Ruoff space. Look at this painting. I have space over here and living space in just painting creates a sense of motion. And I like that This flowers are hanging this way instead of showing a full hatch off roses . So you could imagine that this is just portion off a garden instead of this. That is full. I just portion not a certain portion off the flowers to pain like this. So I'm pretty happy with these because I was experimenting with a lot off site flowers and finally I come up with something like this and even this some flowers that is just hanging down. And I was actually referring to a garden of roses, but I just kind of picked up this portion to pain. So even this Yeah, the rule of space applied his e this way. You can feel that this is part off the roses. This hanging from a a tree? Yeah. So we have space here is they're appealing to look at another seven or so. Yeah, I have space around for my least at work. Yeah, any kind of give you the feeling that the pureness are actually growing. Yeah, from different angles. I'm not sure you can feel it. Yeah. So there's another sample. Also instead, off pending everything food instill for yeah, at all. You know, I have a little bit of space here in still fully packet three flying drawing. I create this illusion that that is portion off fruit garden. Yeah. So this a nada kind of example is having it in full. Which means my this rule off spaces that I have them fill up totally. Yeah. And, uh, the impacts that you look at it. It's a full pingtan like this. And I have this rose garden sometimes basis in between you. Yeah, that's still you could see that a food garden flowers are growing. And for this one, Yeah, I kind off used illustrator to in the flowers, not giving much species. Yeah, So this also applied to my roof space, but I kind off leaving out the space to create a fool Rose garden with strawberries. Yes. So I hope you to learn about this to rule space
10. The Winning Rule: Finally, we come to the last element Call rule of tits. And I usually pain my paintings in a full or a Fife. So I kind offer divide my this tracing paper into nine equal segments and the equal so and you're too vertical lies and to horizontal lines. So I have this and same for this. And so okay, this rule often school this week. I'm just giving this simple again using these just the e five size and the intersection off . 11. Do we pass the test?: So we have finished all the seven elements to form a floral painting. And, uh, I'm just going to great, like any contains that. I heard that I talked about earlier on and see if I have all the seven elements in one painting, because earlier on, I was talking about one painting focus on just one element. But right now we're talking about if all the seven elements are here. Okay, let's look at this month. Element one is focus. So I'm not sure you can see what my focus are definitely is like this. And this year, zoom in. So this is the focal and, uh, actually applies to the rule off. It's also because where this intersect, missus, my focal and bread is in the side. It's my focus. So I have two elements done on, and they're pretty balanced because I have two big and one small flowers to balance it. And with the prime relieves and the second release the balance this painting. Okay, so we talk about I have three elements and, of course, unity because they're all Puritans and their united as a painting by the Leafs. And yeah, we talk about contrasts So in this painting we have complementary colors. We talk about complementary colors. Red and green are complementary. You see, I have an orangey and a little bit off turquoise. I have orangey or so against the green. So I have five off mine elements here, ready and well off space. In this case, it's not really applicable because I have my painting mainly in the center. I don't really have too much off the space. Yeah, So rafters we talk about ready and Ruoff lots. Of course. We have three flowers. So out off the seven elements. I have six elements in this painting. Yeah, So this painting past the floral composition, I pass it. Yeah. Okay, so that's another one that I want. Toe pick up toe. Just check on. Okay. Again. A focal in this painting, it looks like all the tree flowers up here is my phone cooks. Yeah. Here. Here. Yeah. So they just can't live together. So focus and I have okay, lesson for course. And I have ruled parts, which is three flowers in two, and I'm using a lot of like or that very bright colors, and they're all kind of complementary again. I have a ray arrange, you see, or this complementary, complementary and okay, mostly. And, uh, yeah. So all the colors of their complementary. And so I had the contrasts and different angles. Or so you know. Yeah. Different colors. Yeah. And off course with the pure knees, Altria pureness. And they're all linked together by my lips. Yes, by my lease. And in this case, I have the Ruoff space over here. Yeah, to show that this flowers are too. That's a kind of a Mothman here. Yeah. So, uh, Ruoff does weak operating. So, uh, this painting, I think I have seven up off seven elements or here. So again, I think he's spending past my floral composition. I just think one more. Yeah. We can go on and on. You know, I have the leaves in between your instead of like, falling it here. I had them all kind of pinter in between the flowers and I have the Barry's to kind of Habito connect together. So I have the unity. I have the balance and after focus again, I have seven up off, seven off the elements in my spending. So again, I passed the stairs, so I would like you to, actually. Oh, look at your painting. I mean, both can think that you have done sometimes It may not really have that elements, but sometimes it does. Look, they're pleasing to the eyes were appealing. Like this one. I, uh I don't really have the space you know, full batter I still like Is Clinton. Yeah, because, uh, I wanted to show a full guidance, but there are times when I wanted to show just Oh, some flowers hanging in this way. Yeah. So becomes the ball with what you're doing your composition.
