1. Course Introduction: So if you have some business cards here in my hand, and I chose these cards to show you for a reason. The reason is that I realized that each of these cards I've had for at least five or six years in some cases even longer. There are people that I've met along the way on my entrepreneurial journey. I gave them my card, they gave me their card. And we created a connection. Yes, we could have met and created a connection without the car, but the card gives that connection durability. It allows us to exchange information so we can get in touch with each other later on, we can tell each other our phone number or e-mail, maybe write on a scrap piece of paper. We're not going to remember it and we probably will lose a scrap of paper. The business card is what allows you to add durability and longevity to that connection. And that really a fact that I have these interests of question that somebody recently asked me, which is our business cards still valid in our electronics society. And the fact that I still have them indicates yes, they are still valid. They've been around for hundreds of years, but they still matter in anybody in business, whether they be a big business person or an entrepreneur, or even a wannabe entrepreneur should have a business card. How are you doing? My name is Ken Harmell. I'm the creator of the entrepreneurial life channel here on Skillshare. I'm an entrepreneur with nearly 30 years of experience creating different types of businesses, ranging from traditional brick-and-mortar to online ventures. Even being here on Skillshare is an example of entrepreneurship. In fact, several years ago, one of my businesses was featured on MSNBC. So if you're like me and you love the thrill of creating a business or even thinking about how to create a business, how to format whether the idea is going to be viable. How to market it and get the people interested in it, and just the idea of having control of your own destiny, then you're in the right place with the entrepreneurial life channel. This particular series of courses called my fast pitch theories are gonna be real fast, easy courses to do anywhere 10-20 min. The other courses they just released a few weeks ago. My first course here on Skillshare, entrepreneurial life, how to start a food truck business is over an hour long. But I realized that along the way, I've learned so many small things, so many nuggets of information that while small and they cannot fill an hour long course, there's still super valuable items of information, things that have meant something to me. And they can mean something to you. Things that have been inspirational to me. They'd been simply informative or they, they helped me solve her problem, whatever it was, I found them useful and I think you're gonna find them useful too. So I created this fast pitch series of courses. So you can learn from those things that, from my experience. So if you're sitting in the car waiting for your kids, you can do a fast pitch course. Or if you're on your lunch break from your normal job, you can also do a fast pitch course without taking up too much time and you can empower yourself and better your day and get yourself that much closer to your entrepreneurial journey. In this course, we're going to talk about how to design your mood business card. Now, you may be saying, Ken, What the heck is a business card? You're going to stick my name on the side of a cow and walk it around. No, that may be a great idea in some places, but that's not what we're gonna do. The movie business card means we're gonna go to the moo.com printing site. I use them. They have a great site for doing business cards and other marketing materials. So I'm going to walk you through getting on that site, how to choose a card. Then we're going to design one and go through the whole process. The class project of course, is going to be designing a business card and then uploading it onto the class projects page. So it's fun, it's short, it's gonna be an easy course. I think you'll really enjoy it. The project is super easy and fun and I can't wait to see your business cards. I'll upload one on there too so you can take a look. So that's it. Let's get into designing the cards. We're gonna go into the next lesson. So thanks for watching and let's get to lesson number one. 2. Choose Your Card Style: Everyone, welcome back to the course. Before we get into designing our card, I just wanted to bring up the obvious point, which is I design these courses for you guys. So please don't hesitate to reach out to me. You can use the class discussion page and let me know what you like about the courses and maybe even things you don't like or things you want to see changed. I'm really open to your feedback to making these courses, everything that you need them to be to help you along your entrepreneurial journey. And I have lots of courses coming up, so please click follow that. Well, you can be notified of future courses that I have coming up as soon as they're released. So with that, why don't we get into our card. What we're gonna do is we're gonna go over to my computer. We're gonna do a screen session there and we'll walk through the site how to choose a card and then design win. So let's go there right now. Okay, So here we are on the moose site. You'll notice that it has my name, so I've created an account at recognizing me. If you haven't created an account, you can go to the tab up at the top and you can create a new account, very simple process. One of the things you'll notice, and I noticed every time I come on is just how clean their website is. It's just a really beautiful, aesthetically pleasing site. As I said, it's clean, it's uncluttered, really invites me in and makes you want to look around and makes you want to shop and ultimately makes you wanna do business with them. So great job on their part, and that's one of the reasons I like doing business with them. So if we go up top and look underneath the name placard, we will see the different things that they offer. Business cards, which we'll talk about in a minute. Postcards, marketing materials, stationary, accessories such as water bottles, boxes, et cetera. They offer some business services. A little bit about me. If you want to learn more about who they are, you can come here and help and facts. And if you wanna get a free sample pack, you can come right here in order to free sample pack and they'll ship it out to you. Let's go back to the business cards section, since that's what we're gonna be talking about in this lesson. And immediately were brought to that page and were met with some choices. So the original business card is just your regular normal business card that you're used to standard weight cardboard business card. If we look over here, we have the cotton business card, which if you read a citizen made from recycled t-shirt fabric, great option if you're, especially if you're ecologically minded. The super business card, which is a little bit heavier. And then ultimately over on the right we have the lux business card, which is the heaviest. And if you look in the corner, you're going to see that it says 16.18, 0.18, 0.32 point. That refers to the thickness. So a 16-point card is 0.016 " thick. If we scroll down, if you prefer to shop by size, you can do that. They have a standard size, the moose size, a square size, and also a mini size. And then scrolling even further if you want to shop by Finish, such as a gold foil finished, a silver foil finished, res spot gloss finish. They have those. So really any way you want to shop and break it up is available here for you. I'm going to use this selection right here, and I'm actually going to go with the lux business card because I really think it's very reasonable 50 cards for $37. And then I liked the idea of a nice, thick heavyweight business card. I think it makes a really quality representation to who you hand it to. So why don't we do this? And in the next lesson we'll actually design the card out. 3. Design Your Card: Alright, so here we are. We've chosen the lux business card, as you can see up here. There's some pictures right here that show us what we're getting. Pay attention to that edge because we're gonna be choosing that color in a minute. That's one of the advantages of choosing this thicker card is he gets nice declarations like that, things that really highlight the card. We can scroll over here. We're gonna have a choice of different sizes, the standard, the mu and the square. I like the idea of having a slightly off sized card. So I'm gonna go with the moose sized card. Remember that edge color? I'm gonna go with Chile, read from my edge color. And here it's letting us choose whether we want to square or rounded corner. That's strictly a matter of personal preference. For whatever reason, rounded corners have never really appealed to me in business cards is. So I'm just going to stick with the square edge. But again, there's no reason not to choose around it if that's what you like. Here is letting us choose the quantity. I'm just gonna go with the 50th to false to 200, but I'm gonna go with a 50. It'll give you a price break down and you can see that it decreases per card is he grew up in quantity, is giving us a summary right here. And it's defaulting to us using one of their templates, which is what I wanna do. So now we're going to start click start making. Here is where we can choose from different templates. If you notice on the left here, we can choose some different categories. I'm going to choose to professional services and see what I find. I'm going to design something for a fictitious home improvement company. So let's see if we find anything that I like here. And actually write here. Letterbox has got a picture of a house on it are a part of a house. I really liked that. It looks really beautiful, very modern. So I'm going to choose this card to make. Here brings us to the different options. So you'll notice that on this card, this is what they consider, the front. In the back, you're going to have these five options. So you can choose all of them, are just some of them or just one of them. And what I'm gonna do is I'm going to choose these four. I don't like this one. I don't think it really shows much of the house, so I'm just going to default and get that one out of there. We can do that in a little bit. So we're going to go up and we're going to do customize this design. And again, since this is the front of the card, this is the back. You have five different designs and again, we're going to take one of those out and a little bit, start your design. So click that. Click the first box so we can get my information in there. So I've got all my contact information in there. And I'm just gonna put little inspirational line right here in these next two lines. And I'm going to click down, so I get the next line. I'm going to put an exclamation mark there. Click. Now you notice that you can add some small pictures. I'm not gonna do that here. I'm going to click out of that. But if you want to write down here, you have the option of three things. It needs to stay within these dotted lines so you can have something that goes outside the lines so it needs to be small. So I like that. I'm just going to check the spelling. It looks like everything's okay. Alright, so up here we're gonna go to Design backs. And we can customize this line. So I'm gonna do that. It looks good. And we need to do the same things, the back of each one of them, it doesn't automatically update the back. Go back and capitalize that. Alright, so this is the one that I'm not going to use, so I'm going to remove this one from my designs. Alright, so now it says purchased, review and purchase. So I liked the way everything looks. Wanna go back to the front, make changes. You can do that. You notice there's different options. If you want to make bold print, you can do that. Why don't we make my name bold? And why don't we make are alright, I think that looks a little bit better. Design backs. We're good there. Alright, so here we are. So we can design all our cards, we can review them. We have the front with the contact information. I like to look at that and nice and clean. And then we have the four backs, which I chose. And again, you can choose just one. You can do two or three or all five, depending on what your card has to offer. If you want to amend them, you can click the Edit function right here. If you want to remove one of them, you can click the trash can and get rid of that. Alright, so that's it. It's that simple to design your business cards. So you can see there's really no reason for you guys not to have a card. 50 cards here, super heavy-duty deluxe, beautiful business cards for $37. If you need to go more economical, you can. But you can see just how easy it is if you can use Skillshare and you can get onto this course, you can easily, easily design your own business card once you like everything, of course, you go to Add to Cart and go through the normal checkout process was I'm sure most of you are familiar with and you can finalize your purchase and get it shipped to you. That's it. I look forward to seeing your designs. Let's go to the last module in this course when we talk about the nine unique uses for your business card, Let's go there now. 4. 9 Unique Uses For Business Cards: Alright, there you go. You've got your card all designed. I hope you like it. Make sure you upload it onto the class projects page so we can all see it. I can't wait to see it, and I'm sure it looks fantastic. So in the introductory video, I mentioned to you that I'm going to close out the course with nine uses of business cards, some of which you may not have heard of. Actually, you probably in some respects heard of most of these. It just perhaps you didn't think of them as business cards, but they are. And we'll go over those right now. So number one is going to be a loyalty card. If you go into coffee shops, you've probably received one of these at some point or another. On the one side is gonna be your contact info. On the backside is going to be an area where they can either punch or check-off a certain number of purchases. And then once you receive, let's say you do six coffee purchases on the seventh one, you're gonna get it for free or something along those lines. So that's a business card, is gonna be a loyalty card, but it's also a business card. That's number one. Number two and appointment card. We've all gotten used to the doctor's office, dentists office is going to have a section in the back for your upcoming appointments. And on the opposite side it should have all your business contact info. So if you do any sort of future appointments with customers, use your business card as an appointment reminder? Number three, a referral card. Actually, I just used one of these recently. My mom went to her local shoe store. She bought some shoes. They gave her a referral card. She gave that to me. I get 20% off a pair of sneakers that I bought, which I was happy to have because they were super expensive. So I use that car to get 20% off. She was able to therefore get 20% off of future purchase of hers by referring me in these shoes to work at a customer they otherwise might not have had. So referral cards are actually business cards and there are win-win for everybody. So that's number three. Number four, swing or hang tags. If you sell clothing, these are great. You can get the card printed up vertically. You can get a whole bunch and put a hole at the top. And you can put a section on one side for pricing on the opposite side, make sure you have all your business contact info. Number Five table numbers, or a place setting. So if you're holding any sort of event for your business, we're going to be having people sit down at specified areas, use your business card rather than just a blank piece of paper with the seating assignment, use your business card on one side, the seating assignment on the opposite side at your business card, most people will take those with them when they leave. So therefore, all those people or most of them will have your business contact information with them just by attending that event. Number six, many rulers and guidelines. So I'm gonna show you a card for one of my former businesses right here. It was a home improvement business which I own for many years. And I will be actually creating a course on Skillshare in the coming months for starting a homophone business. But it had a mini ruler, does have many ruler right along the bottom. And I will hint at the customers and say, Here you go, Here's my business card. You'll notice on the back is a small mini roller. You can use that to measure out your next project. It was a joke, of course, but it allowed me to get my card into their hands. And it was a great icebreaker. So many rulers are really good if you want any sort of business like a home improvement business we're measuring is a part of the recipe. Number seven, collectible art. I think this is a really cool idea. Let's say you want a restaurant, you can get cards with all your contact info on one side and then some sort of interesting piece of art on the back. And let's say you have a series of six or nine or ten, whatever. You can give them out. And you can even do local artists and have the contact information for the artist on there. And once somebody collects all six or ten, whatever, whatever you deem, they can get a free meal or free appetizer or a free drink, anything like that. So it's a great way to get your word out there to make them want to collect that. And it could also help out a local artists. So gridded if number eight, a discount code coupon. Simple enough, you put a discount on one side, your contact info on the other side. So if you have an upcoming sale or a current sale, you want to spur some business, use your business card as a way to get people in, hand it to them so they can remember who you are and come in and take advantage of that discount or special sale. In number nine, a mini feedback form. Again, if you have a restaurant or someplace like that where the people were sitting down, you can say, Hey, how was the service? Was the food hot? What did, what was good, wasn't good. You can use that as a mini feedback form. Now, granted, if they're going to leave that, they're not leaving with your contact info. But they may be getting information or you may be getting information about your business that could prove valuable in the future in terms of making changes. Perhaps about things you might not see going on. So many feedback forums is use number nine. So there you have it. Nine uses for a business card, which you may not have thought of before. So the course is over. Thank you so much for attending. Again, I look forward to seeing your projects. Get them uploaded, and please let me know your comments and discussion section. And that's it. Thanks. Have a good one.
