Yes, Native American speakers you as many phrases when they want to speak about something that is interesting or boring. Let's dive in. Let's understand them. Let's start with the first phrase and that's, it's fascinating. It's fascinating, which means that something is extremely interesting and you'll really enjoy doing it. It was a bewildering and fascinating place. So fascinated me is extremely interesting. For example, the book offers a fascinating glimpse of the life of the rich and famous. It's intriguing. This is another common word which mean very interesting because of being unusual or mysterious. For example, she has a really intriguing personality, which means her personality is interesting because it's kind of unusual and mysterious, intriguing. If you describe something as intriguing, You mean that it is interesting or strange, or interesting and strange. For example, this intriguing book is both thoughtful and informative. I couldn't tear myself away. I couldn't hear myself away. We use this expression when we don't want to leave or stop watching an action. Because it's really enjoyable and you don't want to go and leave. I couldn't hear myself away. For example, I couldn't hear myself away from the book I was reading last night. It was just too good. Tear away here means to leave despite a strong desire to stay. She couldn't hear herself away from the view. She couldn't hear herself away from the view. I couldn't put it down. I couldn't put it down. The sprays is used for an extremely interesting book. This is a phrase that people say when talking about a great, what gets me is that while you were reading it, you didn't want to stop reading. So I couldn't put it down. You know, sometimes the book is really absorbing and interesting that you get lost at it and you just forget about the time. So you might say, I couldn't put it down. I was so into it. I lost track of time. So if you are into something, you really, really like it and you enjoy doing it. For example, I'm really into playing tennis, which means I enjoy playing it and I really like it and lose track of time here means to be unaware that so much time has passed just because you are very involved and interested in something. For example, while I was listening to her speech, I lost track of time and I was really into it. It does nothing for me. It does nothing for me, which means it didn't have strong and positive effect on me or to not be something that I like or I enjoy. So it doesn't it does nothing for me. Yes, it does nothing for me. For example, watching that movie really did nothing for me. It did nothing for me, which means I didn't have it didn't have a strong effect on me, and therefore, I didn't really find it interesting. I was bored to tears or I was bored to death. This is an informal phrase used to say that you are completely bored. For example, I pretended to listen, but I was bored to death, or I was bored to tears. It means you are extremely bored to the point of maybe distraction or irritation that you almost want to cry in frustration. For example, after two hours of listening at that meeting, I was bored to death. We could also say bore to death, right? As you know, death is the worst thing. So using it to compare how you feel is telling someone that you are very bored, bore to death. I'm dying of boredom. I'm dying art board. And this is another general sentence we can use to say that you are dying just because you are so bored. So this phrase means to be so utterly bored that you feel as though you can tolerate it any longer, right? For example, if that staff meeting ended when it did, I would have died of boredom. Everyone was dying of reward them. By the end of his presentation. It's about as exciting as watching paint dry. It's about as exciting as watching paint dry, which means it's very dull and boring. They usually say, I'm so into it or I'm really into it. I'm really into it. 7. Unit 2: Cheering someone up : Now let's speak about phrases for cheering somebody up. How do you cheer people up? So native English speakers use many common phrases for tearing somebody up. Let's understand them. You could use these phrases and these questions and you can start cheering people up like this. What's the matter? What's wrong? Are you? Alright? You could start with this question in order to show that you are affectionate. To show your affection and understanding what the problem exactly is. For example, Hey Jack, he'll look Saturday, what's the matter? Are you alright? Is there anything I can do to help? Is there anything I can do to help? This phrase is good to use when a friend or an acquaintance has bad news about an illness, death in the family, money problem, et cetera. You can ask, is there anything I can do to help? Is there anything I can do to help? So you can gently offer your help and show you are supportive and sympathetic. For example, I'm sorry for your loss. I know how important she wants to you. Is there anything I can do to help? Is there anything I can do to help cheer up or chin up? This is actually, these are informal phrase is used for someone in difficult situations in order to encourage them to be brave and try not to be sad. For example, shut up. It will soon be the weekend. Chin up. Don't worry, it will soon be the weekend. So this phrase encourages someone to improve their mood, especially when they are sad or discourage. Come on. The project was not total was not a total failure. Yes. Come on. The project was not a total failure. Chin up. Chin up, honey. Tomorrow is another day. It is not so bad. It is not so bad. Actually, it's a good phrase you can use to cheer somebody up and to make him or her feel better when she's feeling sad. So we are trying to emphasize that it is not a big deal or problem and it's not worth worrying. Yes. So this is usually said when something exceeds low expectations. For example, I know that chicken doesn't look too appetizing, but it's not really so bad. It's not really so bad. Everything will be okay or everything will be alright. As you know, this is a phrase of comfort and the time of stress or uncertainty. For example, I know you are worried about finding a new job, but everything will be okay. I promise, as John Lennon said, everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, It's not the end. It's not okay. It's not the end. Look on the bright side. Look on the bright side, which means consider the positive aspects. We use this phrase to say that we must find good things in bad situation. For example, look on the bright side, no one was badly hurt. Look on the bright side. No one was badly hurt. When you tell people to look on the bright side, you are telling them to be optimistic or cheerful in spite of difficulties. If you'll look on the rice, I do try to be cheerful about bad situation by thinking of some advantages that could result from it, or thinking that it is not as bad as it could have been, right? Look on the bright side. It's not the end of the world. It's not the end of the world. This phrase is used when someone is upset about something small and trivial. This phrase is used for saying that something bad is not really as serious as some thing it is. For example, losing your job is hard, but it's not the end of the world. Yes, it's not the end of the world. If you say that something bad is not the end of the world, you are trying to stop yourself or someone else being so upset by it or by suggesting that it is not the worst thing that could happen. It's not the end of the world. Worst things happen at the sea. Wars, things happen at the C. What does worst things happen to see? What does mean. Actually, it means things are not as bad as they seem. So guys, we say it in their resigned tune when we find ourselves in an awkward or difficult situations, or where do we have to put up with something less than we expected? And this is my favorite one. Every cloud has a silver lining. This is a very common proverb used by native speakers, which mean every difficult or sad situation has a comfortable, has a comfortable or more hopeful aspect, even though this may not be immediately apparent. For example, after the fire two years ago, fuel could see the silver lining. So it is used to say that every bad situation holds the possibility of something good. There are plenty more fish in the sea. There are plenty more fish in the sea. This phrase is used specifically to cheer up somebody who has just finished relationship. The speaker is trying to encourage them to look for a new partner. There are a plenty more fish in the sea. There is no use crying over spilled milk. Yes, there is no use crying over spilled milk. This phrase can seem less sympathetic, can suggest that the person needs to forget what has happened and move on. Yes. There is no use crying over spilled milk, being upset over something that has already happened and cannot be changed. So usually the sprays is set as two. It's no use crying over spilled milk. Which means that getting upset over certain things like spilled milk is not going to fix anything, is not going to fix it. The last phrase, which is very simple as you'll look a bit down, you'll look a bit down. Which means you'll look a little sad. It'll look a little upset, or you look a little uneasy or anxious. What's wrong, man? You'll look a little bad. So this is another common way to sympathize with people. To show your worries. It'll look a little bad. You'll look a little down. You'll look a bit down. What's wrong with you. 8. Phrases with films : Let's review these braces in different short movie scenes. See how these phrases are pronounced by native English speakers.
