1. Easy Card Tricks Introduction: Hey guys, welcome to Card Magic for Beginners. I'm Matt McGurk. For the past 15 years, I have lived my dream performing as a professional magician. I've performed on six star cruise ships, in 1000 seater theaters. I have taught all over the world and done hundreds of weddings, corporate events, private parties. I've even when the title of the British Magical Champion. Enough about me. What about this course? What's it all about? In this course, you're going to learn some wicked magic with cards. It's aimed at beginners so if you can't even shuffle a deck of cards, don't worry. We're going to start off with the basics, and I'm going to teach you step-by-step everything you need to know in terms of blowing people's minds with a deck of cards. We're going to start off with the basics. I'm going to teach you some basic shuffles and cuts, and then we're going to get into the tricks. With the tricks, some of them are really easy so you can do them without hardly any practice, they pretty much work themselves, and you can start impressing people straight away. Some of those require a bit of sleight of hand, a little bit of practice. But with a bit of work, you're going to have some really, really impressive tricks that get amazing reactions. As a bonus, I'm going to teach you some card flourishes. How to shuffle the cards, how to fan them, how to do some fancy cuts, how to spring the cards from hand to hand. Teach you some really, really impressive stuff that people really, really love to watch. Mechanics Grip - How to Hold the Deck: Okay, we're going to start at the very beginning, which is how to hold cards properly in your left hand. This is mechanic's grip. Is that easy, but it's one of the basic foundation slides which will make all of your slides starting and ending from this point a lot easier, so very simple. You're just forming a cage around the deck with your left hand, so your thumb is on the left-hand side here. Your first finger is on the front, and you've got these three fingers along the right-hand side of the deck. Now, essentially is mechanic's grip. That's how you will always hold the deck of cards in your left hand. 3. Biddle Grip - Overhand Grip: All right, so you've got the mechanic's grip down so you know what your left-hand's doing. Now let's take a look at the biddle grip, which is how your right hand is going to grip the cards from above. All right guys, so this essentially is the biddle grip and this is very simple, it's very easy to understand. You've mastered the mechanics grip in your left hand, but anytime the cards are going to be gripped from above in the right-hand, so you're going to use this for some stuff later on, like some basic cuts and if you're displaying cards like this. It's very simple, so the biddle grip always is your two middle fingers that are holding the top of the deck now that they are on the right-hand side of the deck like that and your thumb is just at the back underneath. Your thumb is kind of in this position like that. This is like a worm's-eye view. This is the grip that you're looking at. It's just held from above so anytime you're going to be doing cuts later on that I'm going to teach you, don't worry. I am going to teach you how to do these things later on. If I say biddle grip, then you know, I'm referring to this now. Sometimes it might be that you holding the cards a little bit further in for certain moves, and you might be holding the cards a little bit further out for others, but essentially, a biddle grip is just an overhand grip on the deck of cards that looks like this and you should be able to pick that up pretty much straight away. That's all it is, it's very simple and now let me show you something else. 4. The Overhand Shuffle: Let's look at the overhand shuffle. I know, again, this is very, very basic, and you probably know how to shuffle a deck like this already. But I just want to go over some of the finer points just so when we start doing a few more advanced slides later on, you're not going to run into any problems. The overhand shuffle looks like this, and the key to making it nice and neat is pretty much the way the left-hand and the right-hand work together. The left hand is falling like a cage. It's these three fingers here. They're going to be on the right-hand side of the deck. Your thumb is going to be on the front, and then your left thumb is going to be on this side of the deck. If you have a look at that, it's basically forming like mechanic's screw. In fact, you can almost imagine this is like mechanic's screw, which is on its side. All that does is it gives you a nice target for the cards. That way, when you're shuffling the cards, they are going to end up nice and neat, and it's just going to make everything look a lot neater and a lot more professional. That's the left-hand. The right-hand is essentially gripping the cards like this. You've got a good solid grip. I normally only use the two middle fingers and a thumb at the top. Then you left thumb is just going to come over and pull a small group of cards into the left hand, and you just going to do that over and over and over again. Very basic, but it's important that we know exactly how to do this properly because it's going to make learning advanced slides later in the course a whole lot easier. 5. The Hindu Shuffle: All right, guys. You've mastered the overhand shuffle. This is just another way to shuffle a deck of cards. This is a Hindu shuffle. Now, this is a really versatile shuffle because with this later on, I'm going to show you how to use the shuffle to control a card, to force a card. It's going to be used in an amazing, and I mean, amazing color changing deck routine. So make sure you master this. Let me show you how to do it. It's very simple. Again, we're going to be going into mechanics grip in your left hand, that's why mechanic grip is so important. I did say you're going to be using it for everything. That is the grip in your left-hand. The way you hold the cards in your right hand is very very simple. I've got my two middle fingers on the right-hand side of the deck here, right to the back. Also my thumb is on the bottom on the left-hand side. So you're just holding the cards from above just like that. Simply all that's going to happen, is your left hand is going to come in with my two middle fingers and my thumb, I'm just going to strip off huge cards from the top and let them drop into mechanics grip in my left-hand. You're literally just going to keep doing that. You're just going to pull a small group of cards off, let them drop. You're just going to continue that like that. Now, over time, when you practice this, you're got to be able to get that shuffle looking nice and smooth. It's a very, very nice. It's a very elegant looking way to shuffle cards, but you can do so much with a shuffle seriously. As a card falls, the card control, collecting in decks are all strategies. Why I'm teaching you this now because believe me, it's going to be well worth it later on, so master this and I promise you, you're going to love what I'm going to show you later in the course. 6. The Ribbon Spread - Spreading Cards on the Table: This is a ribbon spread; looks like that, it's a nice way to spread the cards on the table, also allows you to flip it over like this so you can use this when you get a card selected or to show that the deck has been shuffled. You can also add a little bit of flourish to this as well, so a little pizzazz, get this card spread across the top like this. With a little bit of practice, you can actually split this in two and have two going at once, like so. So it's a very, very cool move and let's show you how to do it. The ribbon spread is a super, super easy move but it looks really impressive, so it's a bonus for you guys. You're going to start for the cards in a mechanics' grip, remember that? Hope you've been practicing. This is called a bevel, so all I'm going to do is, I'm going to push with my fingers on this side, I'm just going to bevel the cards like that. So all I'm doing is I'm pushing with these fingers and I'm just almost like that's the kind of move that I'm doing, I'm just pushing so that now you can see how this is angled, and that's going to make spreading the cards a little bit easier. First of all, we're going to angle the cards like this, that's your first step. Next, you're going to take your first finger and put it on that angled section there, pop the cards down on the table, and as I spread from left to right, I'm just going to evenly press down on the cards, so I'm going to keep that like that, and the cards are going to be spread evenly from left to right and you're going to end up with something that looks like that. You want to try and keep it nice and contained, you don't any big gaps in between, you don't want it like this happening, so you want to try and keep an even space in between each card, so it's literally like that and just practice doing that a couple of times, first of all, and make sure you're happy with that. When it's a nice even spread like this and you've got this far, and that's literally just practicing, do it a couple of times and get it. When you've got a nice even spread, then if you take your finger on this side, you can actually push it all the way across to the other side and that is your next step, so the flip over. Next step is the flip over, so you're literally spreading the cards, taking it on one side and flipping it all the way across to the other, flip it all the way back, and then gather all the cards, and that's the flip over. If you want to go a little fancier, you can actually spread the cards like this, take this card off, so this card off, this top card, and then you can get this going and you can actually run it across with this card, which looks really, really cool, look at that. When I cross, when I get to this side, and slip this back down its position and flip it over for a sexy finish. Just going one stage further than this, if you want like a real card shock, got a hustler baby, you're going to spread the cards like this, and then if you don't use a card but use your finger, you can actually take two fingers like this and split it into two, so you got two going at once [inaudible]. So that was a really nice move to do. Practice with that, get that under your belt and we can move on to the next thing. 7. Easy Card Tricks - The Reversed Card Trick - Performance: All right. You should have mastered some basic skills by now. The overhand shuffle, the riffle shuffle, and the Hindu shuffle, as well as how to ribbon spread the cards. Now, a trick section. Here, my beautiful wife, Kat, and I'm going to show you your first trick. Kat, just reach and take any card. All right. Take it out. Have a look at it. I don't want to see it. Got it. Won't look. Try not to look. Okay. Turn it, face down. Otherwise, it's fairly easy and slide it somewhere in the middle of the deck. It's literally anywhere you want. Got it. Push it all the way in. That's fair, isn't it? Yeah. All right. Let's try and find your card, Kat. Okay. With my hands behind my back, without even looking at the deck. Just by the sense of the fingertips alone. It looks like this, we're going to take one card out the deck, and let's turn it face up. Could have put it back right in the middle. So just to illustrate on camera. I took one card out with a sense of the fingertips alone, I turn it face up, put it back in the middle. Now there's only one card face up. What was your card? Seven of diamonds. Seven of diamonds. Ladies and gents, the seven of diamonds. All rights. Now I'm going to show you how it's done. Let's do it. 8. Easy Card Tricks - The Reversed Card Trick - Explanation: Let me show you how this one works. It's super-easy. You've only got to do one secret thing before you start the trick. You're going to secretly take the deck of cards, you're going to turn the bottom card face up, and you're going to put that back on the bottom of the deck. This happens, so nobody knows that you've done this. This happens before you've even started. Then you're going to find someone, grab someone and you're going to do the trick. So you spread the cards out. Now, what I'm doing here is before Kat goes to take a card, I'm just spreading the cards out so that I'm obviously not going to keep spreading and reveal this. You want to hide that as best you can. Just start to have the cards mechanic grip and spread the cards very slowly like this. Kat take any card. There she take a card something like that. Then here's why do, I say, "I don't want to see," and as I do that, my hand is going to drop to my side like this and what that is actually going to do is, I'm going to turn the cards over. It looks like this, I say, "Kathleen, have a look at the card, I don't want to see it," and now at my side here, I've actually turned the deck of cards over. When I come back here, I just re grip and I come back like this and now what they don't realize is that you've now turned all of the cards over like this and all of these cards are now facing up. Here's what not to do. Kat take your card, and put it somewhere in there [inaudible]. Don't do that because that's going to be pretty obvious. The way you do this is you hold the cards nice and tight because you don't want them to lift up on this card. You want to keep a Vulcan death grip on this deck of cards. Obviously you don't turn your hand over as well. You're going to keep the cards like that, and all you do is you say, "Slide to the card in somewhere," so slide it in the deck so there's no chance that I can see it. You have them slide it all the way inside. Now they've actually just done the trick for you because all the cards are face up under this one. They've actually reversed their own card and they've got no idea that they've just done it. Perfect. Now I say I'm going to put the cards behind my back and without even looking, just by the sense of the fingertips alone, I'm going to take one card out, I'm going to turn it face up, and I'm going to put it back inside the deck. Now here's what you do behind you back. You put your hands behind your back, and here's what I did behind the back. Very easy. All you have to do is slide that top card behind your back and flip it face up. That is it, so I'll do it. Now you know what's going on. That's all I'm doing. When I put the cards behind my back, that's all I did. I feel that top card and I just flip it face up. When you come back round, you make sure that the cards are face down. You just turn your wrist as you come out, and all the cards are now faced down and everything looks as it should. You say, "I took one card out of the deck, I turned it face up. I put it back in the middle." Now there's only one card facing up, and that should be? The seven of spades. Sevens. You like sevens today, don't you? The seven of spades, and it will always be that card. I think it's a pretty good trick to start with. There's no sight of hand involved, so go away, practice that and have fun with it. 9. Easy Card Tricks - The Lie Detector Card Trick - Performance: This is actually one of my favorite tricks I do, so Kat you're going to help me out. Okay. Take any card of your choice. Yeah. Okay. Got it? Uh-huh. I don't want to see it, so I'm literally going to turn away from the camera. Just turn the face up have a look, then turn the face down. Yeah. Good, don't forget your card. Okay. Yeah. Got it? Yeah. In this trick I'm going to ask you to lie to me. Okay. I'm going to create a lie detector so I can see if I can spot that you're lying to me. To do that, I'm going to deal out a couple of cards. We're going to spell out the word truth, T-R-U-T-H and the word lie, L-I-E. That now creates our lie detector. Take your card Kat, you remember it? Yes. Yes, good. Pop it inside somewhere, brilliant. Well, I'd love you to always be honest with me and always be truthful with me. Right now, I'm going to ask you to lie to me. Okay. Remember what your card is but I want you to tell me a completely different card, in other words you're going to totally lie to me. Okay. First of all, I'm going to ask the number, so what was the number of your card? Five. Five, you're a good liar. I am going to spell out the word five, that's F-I-V-E, and I'll drop this on top. Now remember you could have told me any number.Yeah. Now it's obviously the five of something. Yeah. Spell out of, O-F. Then what was the suit of card? Hearts. Hearts, you have a little smile on, it's like yes. The first time was good, I'm not so sure about that one. But I'm going to spell out the word hearts, that's H-E-A-R-T-S, I'm going to drop the rest of the cards on top. Bearing in mind now you could have given me literally any number and any suits, and you've totally lied to me, so I've no idea what your card is. But it's quite easy to find out the truth because all we need to do is to spell out the word truth, that is T-R-U-T-H. On that letter H, one card count. For the first time what was your card? Two of diamonds. Two of diamonds, you know the thing about the truth? Uh-huh. It always comes up. 10. Easy Card Tricks - The Lie Detector Card Trick - Explanation: Isn't this an amazing trick? Did you like it? So work your trick and the best news for you is, it is totally self work and it works by itself. You only got one sneaky little thing to do, and then after that you're going to be fine. Here's how you do it. First of all you say, "With this trick, I'm going to try and spot if you're lying." So I'm going to create a lie detector. Now to create the lie detector, all you're going to do is create a small pile of cards on the table. To do this, it's very easy. You just spell out the word lie, dealing a card for each letter that's, L-I-E, and then you spell out the word truth dealing card for each letter, T-R-U-T-H. Now that is your little lie detector pile. I am going to come back to that in a minute because you're going to use that for the little lie detector test in a second. So you say, "Take any card." So Kat, reach in there take any one. You have free choice any one, perfect. Say, "I don't want to look, so I'm going to turn away." You genuinely don't look at the cards, you don't do anything so just have a look at this. So they've taken a card, you've not seen it. Now here's what you have to do. You just say, "Kat take your card and just place it in there. It doesn't matter where. Brilliant." Though that's my lie because it does matter where they put the card. So what you've got to do is to get them to put their card third from the top. The key thing about this is, you've got to just be natural about it. Don't do this, don't say, "Put your card exactly there." It's a bit dodgy. But if you say, take your card, they've already got the card there. You're almost going to put it there yourself. You say, just put it anywhere you want and I'm literally extend my hand and they drop it in and you follow it with a line, "It really doesn't matter." All right, you say that with your best expression of guilt freeness, totally innocent face when you do that. Practice your poker face. Practice the poker face, exactly. So the card has been put in, so the only thing you've got to do is make sure it goes third from the top. Now the rest of this trick works itself. Here's the fun thing, you now say to the person you're doing the trick to. You go right, "I'm going to ask you to lie to me. Remember what your card is but I want you to tell me a completely different card." Now the great thing about this trick is, they can literally tell you any number and any suite. Any combination of the two, completely random. How many different combinations could they come up with? It is almost infinite, right? But no matter what number they give you or what suite they give you, it will always produce their card. Let me show you. So Kat, what was the number of your card? Remember, I want you to lie to me. Ten. What you're going to do is spell out the word ten, dealing one card for each letter. So that's T-E-N, and then the rest of the cards, you'll just drop on top, okay? Nice and easy. Now it's ten off, don't forget all the tricks or it's not going to work. So you're going to spell out the word of, that's O-F, drop the rest of the cards on top. Then finally the suite. Spade. Ten is, you're such a liar aren't you? Such a liar. So I'm going to spell out the words spades so whatever the suit I give you, spell it out. So in this case spades, that's S-P-A-D-E-S and you pop the rest of the cards on top. Now believe it or not, no matter what number they've given you, what suite they've given you, if you spell out the word truth now, their card will always appear on the letter h, it's brilliant. I'm going to show you that now. We spell out the word truth and you say to them, "To find out exactly what your card was, I am going to spell out the word truth, that's T-R-U-T-H. On the letter h, the last letter of the spell, place it right in front of them, and you say, "For the first time, and really be honest with me don't lie, what was your card?" The Jack of Diamonds. Jack of Diamonds. You can finish with the line, "You got to be careful about the truth, you know why? Because it will always come out." What? Isn't it? It is such an amazing trick. So honestly, practice that, I've been doing magic for long long time now and I still perform that as a beautiful trick. Have fun with that one. 11. Easy Card Tricks - The Color Changing Deck - Performance: Truffle Shuffle. Do you want to see one of my favorite tricks when I first started magic? Yes, please. You guys are in for a treat because this is going to be an amazing trick. We're going to use deck of cards here. Kat, I'm just going to shuffle through them. Anywhere you want, just tell me to stop. Stop. Right there? Okay. Take the card, have a look at it. I don't want to see. Got it? Yeah. All right. As I go through the cards again, you're just going to pop the card anywhere you want. Literally pop it. Pop it face up, anywhere you want. Stop. Okay. That way, it makes it really easy for me to spot. Oh, all right. Okay. Was your card the two of clubs? Yes. Yes. That wouldn't be impressive, right? That wouldn't be impressive. But what I'm going to try and do now is make your card change color, all right? Okay. If your card changed from blue to red, that would be an amazing trick, right? Yes. I'm going to go one better than that trick. Because now, every single card, every single card in the deck changes to red apart from one and only one. Kat, what was your card? Two of clubs. The two of clubs. That is the color changing deck. 12. Easy Card Tricks - The Color Changing Deck - Explanation: It's going to be on camera. Now, Kat actually, she's never seen that trick before. You loved that, didn't you? Yes sure. So it's a really, really nice tricks. If you've been practicing the Hindu shuffle, this is absolutely the trick to use it with because I think this is brilliant. Here's the preparation on this one. It looks like you've got a blue deck cards, but really you've now, you have got a red deck of cards. I need to just have two blue cards on the top of the deck. This is your secret setup. You have your red deck of cards, you put two blue cards on top. You gather those up and you place that in a blue card box. Now when you start the trick, you don't want to say, "I have a blue deck of cards." Don't draw attention to it. No one's suspicious, don't run if you're not being chased. You just take the cards out. So you want to see a trick? Yes. I'll do a trick. So you're taking the deck out of the blue box, they just assume that all the cards are blue. Why would they think any different? So at this point, just keep calm because no one even suspects that the cards are red underneath there. So you're going to turn the cards face up and then you're going to do a Hindu shuffle, which you've learned from the basic skill section of the course and you've been practicing. So you just shuffle a few cards and I square up like this and I just flashed that button card and I do that a couple of times like this. So they get in flashes of blue. So it literally looks like all the cards are blue and I say to Kat, "Just say stop wherever you want." Stop. Okay and when they next say stop, you can now take this card and peel it off and put it right in front of them and then you're going to put these underneath the cards in your left hand. So this is now on the bottom and you say, "Have a look at the card. I don't want to see it." Now, it doesn't matter. They're always going to choose that card because this is actually always a force as well. So you've actually made them pick this card. So they have a look at their card and they'll turn it face down and then you've still got this blue card on the back here. So you then, you just carry on shuffling like this and again, I can use this sort of casual shuffle. Just pop it back face up anywhere you want. Stop. Okay. So they might stop you, if they stop you. They put it face up and you say, "It doesn't matter that I see the card, I'm going to try something a little bit different." Now, you've still got this blue card on the back.You just keep shuffling. Keep shuffling until you've only got a few remaining cards in your right hand. So just keep shuffling, keep shuffling and I've only got a few in my right hand now. So this is here. I'm just going to drop that on top. Okay, so it looks very, very fair at this point and the trick's done. So I place the cards down and I say, "Wouldn't it be impressive if I could make your card change?" So in other words, it started off blue. If I could make your card changed to red. Now most people would actually be impressed with that and it would be an amazing trick. But now you're going to do an even better trick. You snap your fingers and you turn the cards over like this and now you start to spread the cards and they can see every single card and you've got every single card is right and you just keep spreading. The card in the middle is the card that they put back. I just out, your here like this, and it's a fancy way of saying I just put it sticking out on the deck and then I spread a couple more cards. So you get this display. Obviously, do not spread too much or they're going to see that one and they don't want to see that. So you literally go through the cards like this and no one suspects anything at this point as well. You say for the first time, "What was your card?" They'll say, "The two of clubs." You turn it face up and you have got a killer trick. So practice that. Have fun with it and I'll see you for the next trick. 13. Easy Card Tricks - The Whispering Queen Card Trick - Performance: All right, should we do another? Yes. Right for this, I'm going to use an assistant, but not you. Okay. I'm going to use a different assistant for this. I'll explain as we go along. Take any card, free choice, I don't want to see it and just show everyone, so it's in the face of the camera. Everyone see it? Yeah. Put it face down. Got it? Yeah. Okay, and now I'm going to pop your cards somewhere in the deck. Pop it on top. I'm going to lose your card into the deck. Somewhere like that, so it could literally be anywhere at this point, right? To find your card, I'm going to use an assistant. The Queen of hearts is my beautiful assistant for this. We find the Queen of hearts, wherever she may be. Perfect,. Now, the Queen of hearts actually knows the name of your card because she was in the deck and she saw it, right? If I ask her, says it is a black card? Yes. Hang on a minute. It's a spade? Yes. Yes? It was a spade? Yeah. To find out exactly what card it was, pop your hand on it. Okay. We cast a shadow over the Queen of Hearts. What was your card? The Jack of spades. Turn it face up. Have a look. The Jack of spades. There we go. 14. Easy Card Tricks - The Whispering Queen Card Trick - Explanation: The reason I'm teaching you this is because you're going to learn two things here. You're going to learn a key card principle and you're going to learn a sleight. It's like a two for one deal. What you're going to do is you're going to secretly make sure, before you start the trick, that the queen of hearts is going to be on top of the deck. That's your one little setup for this trick. The queen of hearts is on top of the deck. Then you find someone you're going to do the trick on, in this case, Cat's here. Me. Always here. Always Cat. Cat, take any card. You have them pick a card. You can literally take any card that you want. Yeah. Okay. Then you can turn away and say, "I don't want to see the card." Have them have a look at the card. I'll fold one going now. So it doesn't matter if I see it this time. We know it's nine of clubs. Nine of clubs. So what I do here is I just cut the deck. Now, remember, your queen of hearts is on top here. So I just cut the deck and I say, "Pop your card in the cards somewhere." Then you drop this on top. Now, that looks pretty fair. It looks like you simply put the card in the deck and it's now lost in the deck. However, you know that it's next to the queen of hearts. So to find that card, you say, "I'm going to try and find your card, but I need an assistant." You say, "My assistant is the queen of hearts." So you run through the deck, and you're going to do this with the cards towards yourself so they can't see what you're doing, but I'm going to lower the card so you guys can follow along. All I'm doing is I'm running through the cards like this and I spot the queen of hearts here. Sneaky. Sneaky. It is. I know the card to the left of the queen of hearts is going to be Cat's card. Now, that is going to be the card that they chose. So all I do is I cut the deck at that point and I put these to the back, bringing the queen of hearts to the face and their card directly underneath it. Now, remember, you do that all with the cards towards your chest so that they can't see what you're doing. So it sets the queen of hearts. It's my assistant. It's going to tell me what your card is. Now, you already know what the card is because you saw it as you just went through the cards to get the queen of hearts. So all I do now is I'm going to put the cards in my right-hand like this, in biddle grip, which is in the basic section, and I put the cards to my ear and I say, "I think it was a black card, right?" Yeah. Yeah. So it was a black card. She says, "It's a club." It's a club. Now, to find that card, you're going to show the queen of hearts on the bottom of the deck like this. It's going to look like you take the card and place it onto the table in front. But here's what you're going to do, and this is the sneaky part, however, to show you guys, I'm going to tilt up just so you can see what's going on underneath the deck. This is like a worm's eye view. All I'm doing with my fingers of my left-hand, I'm going to slide this across like this and that then exposes their card underneath. All I do is I reach underneath and I just take their card and I place it right in front of them. So that's the secret move. This is called the glide. It's a variation of the glide. It's a classic sleight of hand move. So once again, right-hand just slides this fingers across. Now, this is covered by the back of your hand here so they can't see that happening. But this is what's actually happening. Then you reach underneath, and you take their card, and you slide it out. This is how it should look. It looks like you say the queen of hearts, I'm going to take it, place it right in front of you. Then I put this off to one side and I say, "Place your hand on it." We cast a shadow over the card. What was your card? The nine of clubs. Nine of clubs. Turn it face up. Have a look. Woah. Woah. Then they run away like a David Blades' TV special. No way. Right. So that's whispering queen, so you've got two things to look out there. You've got the key card principle and you've also got the glide. So two things to practice, go away, practice them, and I'll see you for the next trick. 15. Easy Card Tricks - The Slop Shuffle Card Trick - Performance: All right, this is a classic trick of magic. Kat, take any card, your choice. [inaudible]. Turn the card face up, have a look at it, show everyone at home. You got it? Yes. Okay. I'm going to shuffle the cards, so just pop your card on the top. I shall lose your card somewhere in the deck like this, giving it a good old shuffle like that. Now, most people shuffle their cards like that, or they might shuffle like this, or they might do a ruffle shuffle. But this one time, there was a guy who got totally drunk and he completely shuffled in a weird way. In fact, what he did was he took the cards and mixed them like this, face up, face down, and this was a complete mess. I could watch him doing this and, literally, my jaws on the floor. I was thinking, "How am I going to find this card? All of the cards are facing in different directions. Every card is either face up or face down." But I'm a magician, so I'm not too worried about it. If we pass my hand over the deck like this, it's almost like it didn't happen. Now, every single card turns back face down apart from one. That would be your card, the king of diamonds. 16. Easy Card Tricks - The Slop Shuffle Card Trick - Explanation: For this one, I'm going to show you how to use the Hindu shuffle as a card control. First of all, we'll look at how you do that, and then we'll come back with the rest of the trick. Hindu shuffle control is a really good control. You have someone pick a card, and they take a card like this, and then look at it and remember it. For now, I'm going to pop it in my pocket. Let's just imagine that they're now holding this card. You start to shuffle the cards in a Hindu shuffle now. What you want to make sure is that you have a little bit of space beyond this. What I mean to say is, don't hold the cards at the edge like this. You want to hold them just a little bit deeper, with these two fingers and your thumb, because you're going to use these in a second to pick up a group of cards. That's important. It's going to make what you're about to do a lot easier. You're going to have them there like that. Now, you're going to shuffle the cards like this into your hand. They're going to say stop wherever they want. They're going to stop you. Wherever they stop you, then you place their card. In this case, six hearts back on top. It's going to look like you're going to put these flat on top of the deck, like that. But in reality, what's going to happen is when I said those two fingers are going to pick up a group of cards, that's exactly what they're going to do. We have look at the side view like this. You can see that these cards actually line up from the front. From the front, you can't see anything. But from the back, what's going to happen is, these two fingers are actually going to pick up a group of cards from the back like this. Now, you can see that there. It picked up a small group of cards and you're going to continue shuffling off from the top. Now, you can't see this from the front. You can't see an outbreak from the front, but from the side, you're actually just shuffling off like that, all the way until you get to that break. Then when you get to that break, that card will be right back where it started on top of the pack. Hopefully, you've been practicing your Hindu shuffle, which is a brilliant way to control a selected card. Now I'm going to show a you great trick to go along with that. The only thing that you're going to need to do with this trick, and this will really help you, is just to put a slight bend, like a slight downwards bend in the deck. Now, there's a couple of ways to do this. One, just do it like that, which is probably the easiest way to do it. If you want to do it in a more subtle way, then you can jump across to the pro skills section and learn how to do a pressure fan, which will then subtly bend the cards, and also offer the card to be selected this way as well. So it's a two for one. If you're not there yet, and you've not jumped ahead and start to learn all those cool things in the card skills section, then for now, before you start the trick, just give the cards a little downwards bend like that, and I'll put a little bend in the cards. That's going to make one of the later moves a little bit easier. Cat, take any card, free choice. You have them pick a card. Yeah. Can pick any one they want, send it face up, sort of look at it. In this point, seven of hearts and all you're going to do is you control that card to the top using the Hindu shuffle control. As you know, we're going to shuffle a few cards into the left hand, about half. We are going to put the card on top. We're going to pick up, like I taught you before, a small group of cards, and we're going to continue that shuffle to the break, bringing Cat's card to the top of the deck. At this point, now, most people would shuffle a deck of cards like this and all you're going to do with this is you're going to slip the card off first. All you're going to do is shuffle it to the bottom of the deck. You're going to slip that off onto your hand, and then this hand is just going to shuffle the cards. Simply, all you've done is you've transferred the top card to the bottom of the deck during the shuffle. Most people shuffle like that. There's this one guy who shuffled the cards in a weird way one time and he mixed them all face up and face down. All you're going to do here is you take a group of cards off with your right-hand and you're going to turn it face up. Then thumb over a few more cards with your left thumb. Then you turn these and you keep turning this packet, thumbing a few cards and turning this packet. It doesn't matter how many you do, but just like this. Then the last card, you're going to place on top. Now, that is actually the selected card. But you're going to place that on top like this and you score all the cards up. It literally looks so haphazard. It looks like you've literally like completely mess the cards up and really, really mixed them up, and face up and face down. The whole cards look like a complete mess. However, what's really happening is this. It's not quite as messy as people think is. You've got all the face down cards, all the face up cards, you've got their card face down on top of the deck. Brilliant. You've only got one little move now to clean up and it's very easy to do. This is why I asked you to put a little bend in the cards because what you're going to do is you've got to cut anywhere near the top and say, "Look, some cards were face up." You just cut anywhere in the top of the deck like that. You say, "Look, some cards were face down." Now I cook right near the bottom of the deck. Now, if I turn this side on, you can see this break and that's quite clear. You're going to see this break and that's where you're going to cut next. I'm going to cut there like that. Now you'll see the cards are back to back. Even some cards were back to back. To clean up, you're just going to rotate your right hand down and put them on the table, and then rotate your left hand down and put those on top. That's now subtly straightened out all of the deck, leaving all the cards face up, apart from one which is face down, which will be their card. If now I spread the cards, all the cards will face the right way, apart from one card, the selected card. With this trick, you've learned a brilliant way how to control a card and you've also learned a dynamite trick to go along with it. 17. Easy Card Tricks - Out of this World - Card Trick - Performance : Anytime you can get the spectator to do the magic themselves, it's even more amazing for them because they have no idea how it's done and this is one of the classic tricks of magic that literally you do nothing, they do everything, and it is an absolute miracle. So, Kat, with this, you're going to do everything. Okay. So if it doesn't work? My fault. Yes, your fault, exactly. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to test your intuition here. So being a woman, you should apply that woman's intuition. That is quite well-known. Yes, but I'm going to put two markers down on this table. So we've got a red card here and a black card there. So all you're going to do is, I'm going to give you the cards like this. Yeah. Now. If you think the card is red, you're going to place it here and if you think that the card is black, you're going to place it here. Okay. So no pressure. Don't think too much about it. But obviously, if you just trust your intuition and just go with it and let's see what happens. So wait one sec. You're either left-brained or right-brained. You're either analytical or creative. So this can affect this test. Okay. So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to switch things up now if you've got a couple of cards they're the opposite. So we're going to swap the piles now. So in other words, where you put in red cards here. Now this is the black marker. This is the red marker. Okay. So if you think any cards are black, put them here. Okay. Any cards of red, put them there. Wow. Brilliant. How do you think you did? No idea. Should we take a look? Anywhere near half correct, then I'm amazing. You're amazing. Yeah. Because what are the chances of that, right? So we'll have a look at this pile first. So these are the red cards. You felt these were red. Okay. Let's have a look. Okay, first one down, that's good. That's good. Wow. I don't believe it. Actually, every single card is red here. Oh, my goodness, every single card is black. I think if those are right, then I'm not even questioning, these must all be right as well. Every single card, you completely separated the cards into reds and blacks. Isn't that incredible? Literally out of this world. 18. Easy Card Tricks - Out of this World - Card Trick - Explanation: I don't mind saying this, this is easily one of the best tricks in the course. It is also one of the easiest, and because of that, you might lose respect for it. This is absolutely one of the strongest tricks in the course. So learn this, practice this, and I promise you you're going to have a trick that you will perform for the rest of your life. Let me show you how it's done. You've got a secret little set up with this one. You're going to secretly set the deck into all of the red's on top and all of the blacks underneath. That is your sets of unity that before you start the trick. Now, when you're ready to do the trick you say, "We're going to do like an intuition test". Test your intuition. All I do is, I hold the cards towards my chest at this point, I'm just going to lower them so you can see what I am doing, and you just take out any black card and any red card. Now, you do this with your hands towards your chest so that they don't see that all the cards are separate already. I take these out and I put the red on the right and the black on the left. It's just because I can then keep track of read-right, black-left, and I know where the cards are supposed to be. You'll give the cards to whoever you doing this recon. You say, it's very easy. If you think a card is red, you're going to place it here. If you think your card is black, place it here and you have them deal the cards from the top of the deck. Go for it. The only thing you need to do, while they're doing this, is you're secretly counting the cards that they're dealing. Don't count aloud because that would give it away. Just count it in your head. Now what I'm doing is I'm secretly counting in my head right now. You're going to stop at 24. When he gets 24, you're actually going to stop them. I have cat count because I was explaining it. That's 24 isn't it? You'd be secretly counting, when you reach 24, you go stop and you stop them like I did in the performance. I'm not sure whether you are aware of this, but some people are right-brained and some people left-brained. You are either more creative or you more analytical. That can actually affect the test. Now that sounds plausible. It's rubbish. You're going to do that because you need to do something to make the trick work. Because right now what you're going to do is you're going to change the piles. You're going to say, "Let's switch things up a bit because of that, if we've got two cards here that are different," yeah, brilliant. Now you put the black card, because these two now is like the point worthy reds and blacks met in the middle of the deck. You're going to put a black card here like this, and the red card here like this. Now, all of the red cards at this point are down on the table and all of the black cards are in your hand. All right, so you're well ahead of the game. Obviously don't let them know that. All the cards are face down and you have them carry on dealings. If you think the card is black deal it in this pile and if the card is red, deal in it in this pile, and you just have them carry on dealing with cards like this. Now the situation is at this point, the one pile is correct and one pile is the opposite. That's why reds are on the right, because I know now that this pile is correct. In other words, all of these cards are red and all of these cards are black as they should be. Here is actually the opposite. In other words, here we have reds. All of these are red underneath the black card, and all of these are blacks underneath the red card. Since the reveal, the trick, you're going to come along to the right pile, the pile on the right. You're going to take out all of these cards underneath the red card, and you say, "Let's see how you did". You think always of red? Now I deal the cards one at a time, I don't just turn these over and show that they're all red. You want to build the suspense at this point, so you start to deal very slowly. Two, that's good. Three, four and they're going to start to react to this funnel like no way. Then you pick up the pace and you start to deal and you go, wow, look at this, every single card, right? Every single red card. Then you can come over to these cards like this, turn these face up and spread them back underneath the black card. All of these cards are right. This point, they're freaking out. Exhibit A. They can't believe they've got all of these right. You've got a secret move to do here and it's very simple. All you're going to do is you're going to take all of the cards underneath the top card here, this black card, you're going to take all of these cards like this. You're going to turn them over and you're going to ribbon spread them back onto the table. That secretly corrects now and puts all of the blacks underneath the black card. This card, you can just turn face up, this is a red one. You can put this back over there and you've cleaned up everything and everything looks absolutely as it should and totally impossible. Trust me, this is one of the strongest tricks in magic. This is the one of the strongest tricks you can do. Really put the effort into learning this, really get it together, and you've got an amazing trick you can do for the rest of your life. 19. Pro Card Skills Introduction: Welcome to the pro card skills section of the course. In this section I'm going to be teaching you the moves used by professional magicians to add style and elegance to their performances. I'm going to teach you how to manipulate the cards in an eye-catching way with style and panache. These skills are going to take your card magic to a new level and make you look so much more professional. Take the time to master each of the skills before moving on to the next one because I promise you, these are techniques that you're going to be using almost every time you perform. Now, like I've said earlier in the course, it does make it easier if you have a good deck of cards. Now it's probably a good time to jump from Ebay or Amazon and grab yourself a couple of decks of bicycle cards. Bicycle cards are what most magicians use because they're in good quality cards, they'll last you and they'll make learning these techniques a lot easier from the get-go. Grab a deck of cards and let's get started. 20. Learn How to do a Riffle Shuffle: Don't lie, guys, this is the bit you've been looking forward to. You want to learn how to shuffle like this because it looks cool ass right, and it's a really, really awesome way to shuffle a deck of cards. We're going to break it down, and it's actually quite easy. We're going to break it down step by step, make it super, super simple to learn. First of all, we've got our sort. You've got to get the grip right. A lot of people have tried, or if you've tried this before, you might have tried to learn a riffle shuffle, like with the cards at the edge of your fingertips like that. A lot of people try and they do this, and then try and go onto the table and shuffle like this. The problem with that is that you've got no grip on the cards. It's very, very likely that you're just going to drop the cards or if you've dropped the cards before, and you've had that problem, the problem is the grip. What we're going to do now is we're going to make the grip a lot better and a lot more sturdy so you're not going to drop the cards. We're going to use a method called the claw. The cards are going to go on the second phalanges of the fingers, there, like that. Then you're going to put your first and little finger on either side of that, and you're going to basically form this claw. That's what it should look like, so literally a cage around the deck so that you cannot drop these now. It'd be very, very difficult to drop. This will allow your thumb to riffle off the edge like that. That is the grip. So you've learned the grip and now we're going to go to the transfer. That's how you get cards from one hand to the other because you don't want to do something like this, because it looks messy. It's very, very simple. All you're going to do is you're going to start off with the grip like this, and your left hand is going to open out like this and it's going to get ready to receive the cards. All you're going to do now is you're going to let about half the deck fall into your left hand. Now, surprise, surprise to make life a lot easier for you guys, you're going to aim. When this top edge is going to fall, you're going to aim for that line right across the fingers. That's because we're going to mirror exactly with the right-hand, we're going to mirror that with the left-hand as well. So you're aiming for that top edge to fall where that line is, because that'll allow you to pivot this up and have the same grip in a second. You're going to riffle off the fingers like this. Then you're actually going to put that right where the line is. Then you're just going to use basically these fingers underneath, they're just going to lever this section up. You'll actually find now that you are in the same position. You should have your two fingers on the bottom, and you should have your first finger and little finger either side. Now, you've got this situation like this. You've got a good solid grip of those cards. Those cards aren't going anywhere, and you can riffle across the tops with your thumb. I think you can see where this is going now. Let's get into the shuffle. You've probably tried this already, but just to clarify now, what you're going do is you're just going to release the cards so they interlace. You're going to, as you release the cards like this, the corners are going to interweave like this. One more time, don't go to deep here, you literally just want the corners like this. So you want the corners interweaving like that, and you try and riffle evenly with both thumbs at the same time. When you get to this part, you're just going to push the cards into each other just a little bit. Now, for now, I want you to stop there. You can basically take these cards and square them all up, and you've done a riffle shuffle. So practice that and get comfortable with that. Just get comfortable with shuffling those cards like this. Then when you're happy with that, we can move on to the bridge. You've got to shuffle, but it doesn't look fancy, because I know it's no good to do a riffle shuffle without that riffle at the end because everyone wants to learn that bridge because that's the cool bit. It's going to take a little bit of practice this, and it's going to sound naff, me saying it really is like a knack, a feel, but you will get it. We're going to get up to this part where we've interlaced the cards like this. Now, this is all about pressure. So you've still got this grip at the back. You've still got your claws going on. Nothing's changed here. What's going to happen is you are going to keep your thumbs on top, and you're going to bend the cards like this. You're going to feel a pressure within the cards when you do this. Now, the pressure is going up. You're going to keep the pressure on the deck with your thumbs being at the top, they're like a backstop. You can feel that pressure building up on the cards like that. Now, you're going to release from underneath. You're going to keep the pressure on top with your thumbs and you're going to release from underneath with your fingers. You should see the cards start to cascade. You're going to literally just shuffle the cards like that. So that you've got about, I don't know, what is that? An inch? Something like that. An inch that's interweaved. Bend the cards down on the fingers, keep the pressure on top with your thumbs, so that you've backstop, and release from underneath your fingers. You open your fingers out and they'll form like a little table for the cards to fall on. That's your bridge. Don't get discouraged, it's not the cards' fault, it's not your fault. It will just take time, but with a little bit of practice, I promise you will get it one day, it'll just click and you're going to have the riffle shuffle. Have fun practicing with it as well, do it in front of a film or a TV. Just watch it and you'll have it before you know it. That's the riffle shuffle. Boom. 21. Fancy Cuts - The Swing Cut: Right now, guys, I'm going to teach you really nice way to cut a deck of cards. It's a pro's approach. This is how you do it. Looks a little bit like this. A nice, neat cut in the hands looks very, very fancy. You're going to be doing this a lot in card magic. This is a move you're going to use all the time. Very simple. The cards are in between your right-hand, second finger at the top, thumb underneath. My second finger is up here in the top right-hand corner. My thumb's in the bottom corner. All it happens, it's very simple, is that you're right first finger is just going to lift up a group of cards. It's going to kick them over very, very slightly. Then your left hand, you're just going to kick these into the crotch of your left hand like this. Your left thumb crotch, and then, these are going to go on top. That's very, very simple. One more time. I'm just going to lift up a small group of cards. They are delivered into the crotch of the left hand. I can't do that without laughing though. Then that goes on top. That's a single cut. Practice that, get comfortable with it. When you've practiced that, you can actually do it multiple times and it looks very, very nice. It looks like this. You can create a running cut. You can now do multiple times and create a nice running cut in between the hands. This is a very, very pretty move. It's very, very nice. Practice it, have fun with it, and good luck. 22. Fancy Cuts - One Handed Cut: Right. You made it this far, I'm going to challenge you now. This is kicking it up a notch. This is just a little bit more difficult than the stuff we've been doing and it looks like this. It's a really really nice cuts. It's the one-handed cuts from the case. It's a deck of cards with one hand. Now this is a nice party face, right, and it can add a nice little pizazz and flourish to any con trick or any card routine, you slip this in here. To show you how this is done, I'm just turning a little bit side on and sit like a canoe man in a whiskey bar. Might help if you grab a deck of cards and follow along with this. Here's the grip. You'll go and script the cards like this. You're going to have all your four fingers on the front edge and your thumb is at the back edge like this. Four fingers at the front and then my thumb is just along that back edge. Now, it's important with this that you have a nice high grip on the cards. Now by high grip, I mean, I'm gripping them along the tips, almost like the deck is quite high in the hand. We have plenty of space here, which is going to be important in a little bit. For example, if I'm holding the cards here and I go and try and cut the cards, that's impossible. There's no way that deck of cards is going anywhere, but that's why we're going to be holding the cards quite high up in the hand not too high, but right at the edge of the fingertips, just like that. Four fingers at the front, thumb at the back. Step one, now just releasing pressure with the thumb, you're going to allow a few cards to fall. Remember, the third half of that, something like that, is to fall, and not drop all these in the process. If you've got that far, good, stay with me. Nice and slowly you're going to be fine. Your first finger now. So your left first finger is going to actually come underneath these like this. If I just show you from the front, it's going to come underneath these and it's going to push up. So they are going to come up. Then you going to push up up up, so far and you'll see this top packet, it just clears that top packet and that is going to fall onto your first finger. Hopefully at this point, pick all the cards up and try and catch backup with me. Because it's quite normal to drop them at this point. I was dropping them all, all the way. Well, get back up to this point. Now, you're holding the cards up here with your thumb, so this is actually gripping this packet, and stopping it from going anywhere. Your next step now is just with that right first finger, that left first finger is just to kick it out from the packet. So you're going to let it just, and that will allow that packets are full and then this packet is going to rest neatly on top. You're like, [inaudible] this for years. It's a difficult move, but it is well within your reach. I promise you, it just takes a little bit of practice. When you get it, it is easy but it's a really nice move as well, and it looks super difficult. So you're going to have some bragging rights when you learn this one. A couple of key tips here. Fingers nice and high, that will allow you to be able to drop those cards and when you push these up, it gives them plenty of space to clear. This is where most people go wrong. Make sure you've got enough space to clear, that first finger pushes these up, that's going to fall on top of the first finger. Thumb is grabbing this packet here now. First finger just kicks out and then you're going to drop these on the top. I am challenging you with this, but I know you can handle it. This is going to teach you a little bit discipline because this will take you a little while to get, but I promise you it's worth it. 23. The Card Spring: All right, guys. This is one I know you really want to learn. This one is the card spring. I know it's one of the things that you're probably the most excited about learning. I'm going to break this down into two hands. What the left hand is doing and then what the right hand is doing and I'm going to put it together, and it's going to end up something like this. You want to think your left hand like a cage. That's the easiest way to describe it. If we look at the cage, you've got your first finger, which is going to end up on the fronts of the deck. Then you've got your thumb, which is on the left hand side of the deck. Your two fingers here should be on the right hand side of the deck and your little finger is a backstop. This more than anything else, is the most important part of this grip. Now, it looks unnatural when I'm saying do this. However, when you put the deck of cards in your hand, it's much easier. That's what I mean about a cage. You see how all sides of the cards are covered? Your left hand is covering that side, your two middle fingers here covering the right side, your first finger is on the fronts, and your left little finger, most important finger, is a backstop on the back of the deck. That way, when the cards are sprung into your hand, they are actually going to form into a nice neat pile and it means the cards aren't going to be spread horribly and look disgusting. That's how it's going to look. You can see if I spring the cards now, that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm just spring them into that [inaudible]. They're going to end up pretty much squared already, which just makes your cards spring look very, very neat. You just want to practice. We can do a very basic card spring straight away, and that is just throw the cards into the hand and get used to them falling into that grip because that grip is the key to your cards not going all over the floor. Once you've got the left hand, let's have a look at what the right hand is doing now. Essentially, what's happening is your firing cards off the back of your thumb. The cards are firing or shooting off your thumb. It's important that we get this grip on the right-hand correct. Where the cards are actually going to go is right here. The corner of this deck is going to go, essentially, in-between that almost fits, just on the ends of your fingertips. Now, I like to use this line as a guide, so that is what I'm going to put the top right-hand corner of the deck. Just to give you the guideline, wedging that corner in-between those two fingers and then your right thumb is going to be on the back of the deck like this. That is the grip that you want. The top right corner is wedged in between the gap between my two fingers here like this and your thumb is going to be at the back, which is going to give you a nice solid grip of the cards. Now, if you think about this section or your middle fingers here being a backstop, is going to stop the cards. Your left thumb now is, and you can put all your fingers across now at the top edge of the deck just for support because it's just going to help you get a little bit of spring in the cards. You're going to squeeze the cards like this and then go close with this. When you first do this, you're just going to let them fire off the back of your right thumb. It's going to look like this. It's probably not look great straightaway. It's perfectly natural for it to be looking like this, but this is a good way for you to practice getting a smooth spring from your right hand to your left hand. What you want to do is have a smooth continuous spring. You don't want it to be like doing this. You don't want it to be stuttering, you want it to be nice and smooth, just like that. Key points here are, keeping a good, tight, solid grip there, not letting the cards move, that literally is wedged. The only place the cards are being released from is this back left corner here from the thumb. Again, another key thing is having this backstop here, because if you don't have this backstop here, because they're going to slide off the back of your hand and onto the floor like so. That is not good. We're back. What I want to do is encourage you. I know you want to get a nice big cards spring straightaway and I know that's what you're going after, but trust me, what you really want to do with this is start small and get it nice and smooth. Literally, just do it a little bit away from your hand like that and really get used to getting a nice even spring like this. Only then, you want a very, very slowly over time. Start to increase that distance as you get that nice and smooth. Once you've got a couple of hours practice and you're about with this, you're going to have a really nice, fancy looking card spring. It's a great flourish. It's a great way to show that you've got some skills. 24. Fanning the Deck - Thumb Fan: When I first started magic, I always wanted to know how to fan a deck of cards like a professional magician. So we're going to go over that. Now, you want to look at the hand and these two lines here, that's where you're going to be putting the cards. In a position where you're going to fan the cards, the cards are literally going to be in this position, so they're lying along that gap between the third finger and the second finger. Like that. That's your card placement. When you're going to fan the cards, so from here you can move them into this position. Like that. You'll notice that the thumb is right at the bottom, and it's along that bottom edge and it's right in the center, now that's going to be the pivot point for the fan. If you imagine that these are going to go around like this, that is going to be your pivot point. This is going to take a lot of practice, I'm not going to lie. This is one of those things that you're just going to have to keep going over and practice, and practice, and practice. I promise the result is going to be worth it. The cards are here along this line. Like this. You're going to put a little bit of pressure on here with your thumb, and then this thumb is going to come along on this top edge here, and it's just going to spread the cards from left to right in an arc. Now, you've probably done that and it's probably come out all clumpy and horrible. The key to that honestly is just practice. This is just one of those things that you've just got to go, okay it's kind of knacky and you've got to get a feel for it. But I promise you will get if you keep at it, and you got a decent deck of cards, so grab yourself a good-quality deck of cards that will spread well. You can test them by spreading them on a table. Make sure the position is right, because that's the key to the whole thing. Again, I'm using this line, the cards are there, the thumb is at the bottom edge like this, and then this thumb comes over. A little bit of pressure here, and a little bit of pressure from your right thumb, and you get them to spread in a nice arc. It's just one of those things that you just got to keep practicing, and practicing, and practicing. But throw on a movie, watch a film, watch a TV series, and as you're watching, just practice. It won't take long and you're going to have something that looks really sharp, and really professional. 25. Fanning the Deck - Pressure Fan: Right. You've mastered the fan, standard magicians fan. Let's take it up a notch. This is a pressure fan and it's just a different way of doing a fan but it creates a bit more of an even spread. It looks very nice. The position is going to be the same. Exactly the same as your regular fan. Just like you had before, you're going to be along the line of the fingers here and your thumb is going to be at back edge at the bottom. However, from this position where you'd normally just take the cards like this and spread them with your thumb and fan them out, now you're going to do something just a little bit different. What we're going to do is use a little bit of pressure. With the fingers like this, we're actually going to push and bow those cards a little bit. Now you're not going to bow like bending them in half, you're just going to push just a little bit. Normally it's my top three fingers here that are at the top and the thumb is just underneath at the bottom, just like that. You're giving the cards just a little bit of a squeeze, a little bit of a squeeze. Then you're going to do the same motion as you do for a fan, but just releasing those cards very, very slowly and very, very evenly. They hopefully, they should come out in a nice fan like this. It's all and no pressure. It's just something that you have to get by practice. It's one of those things. It's a little bit knacky. But a couple of times we're not talking about much pressure here, and you're not trying to spring the cards. You'll learn a little bit lighter, or you might have raced a head and learned it already, but what you're going to do is it's just literally just bending and applying that pressure so that when you move your right hand round like this in a semicircle, the cards are just going to very, very slowly spread themselves out. Now again, good pack of cards helps with this, and so does a lot of practice. Grab a deck of cards and get at it.
