1. Intro: Hello and welcome to a new class. In this class, we'll create a colorful room with characters inspired by Kids Books, Illustration, while practicing Composition and Perspective. In this Colorful scene using Procreate. Hi, I'm Iva and I'm full-time illustrator. And even if you're a beginner and YouTube Procreate, I will take you step-by-step through the process. During this class, we'll start off with sketching the concept. Well, thinking about Perspective and Composition. Then we will redefine the sketch with more details before putting it altogether in one illustration. So I hope when you watch and follow this class, you will feel super happy about your project illustration and you will share it with others. So I'm really looking forward to seeing your take on this project illustration. And when you are sharing it on Instagram, please make sure that you tag me in the image, not only in the description, because that way I can see your Illustration and maybe you will see it in one of the next videos. Like these amazing illustrations made by wonderful creative people who watch my classes. So if you don't know, if you can find even more drawing tutorials and classes. They are Procreate and other tutorials. And I have more than 30 classes there that he's a variety from beginner level to more advanced levels. And you can also find different topics. So without further ado, let's start and see you in the class 2. Resources and Canvas Setup: The Canvas size for this illustration is 3,508 pixels by 2,480 pixels and 300 DPI. And I link the color palette in the description if you want to use the same color palette as I am using during this class. And before we start, you can think about how you can make the project illustration more your own and more unique. For example, you can explore drawing different plant Shapes in the room because they are so many cool rooms on pinterest full of plants and also different pots. So try to notice different shapes of the plants. I mean the types of the plants that you can draw. Because when you draw a different plan types or playing Shapes, you can bring variety in theory, illustration. In addition to these, you can look at different references for smaller plants that you can draw on the shelves, for example, as well as bigger plans that you can draw in the corner of the room. Also, you can look at some references which can spark your imagination for maybe a cool plant stand as a interesting design detail in your illustration. Or maybe you can spot excellent Beth throw or a cooler rag design that you can add to the design of the room later on. And you can also think about an interesting lampshades design that you can put in the corner of the room or a small beanbag design. We'd, you can put on the other side of the room and you can save more references which you can come back to later. In addition to references about plants and interior design, you can also save different references for kids because you can create different poses for kids or other pets you want to add into your illustration. For example, there are so many cute sleeping cat poses online as you can imagine. When looking for the cat sleeping references, try to only look at the references where you can see the full silhouette of the cat. And in our illustration for this project, one of the cats in the illustration will be in the side view, the cat which will be on the sofa. And the other kid that I'm planning for this illustration is closer to us on the chair. So we can see it in a little bit more top view. So you will need a reference like that. If you want to change the poses and draw your own. You can also first follow along with the same ket poses that I'm drawing. Keeping them on a separate layer and then replacing them later with different poses when you practice. Or maybe you want to alternate the colors of the cats, are the pets in the illustration, and use the same colors as your pets at home. That's always FUN. I think. In any case, collecting different references, always spark new inspiration. But try to use a variety of references and not just one photo in one illustration. If you decide to go for a different design that I am using in this class. As I said, collect more references for inspiration, which you can come back to later when you are in this stage of redefining line Art in the drawing. And also, you can use different references when you are adding colors and details at the end of the illustration process. You can also download these graph composition sketch. You can use as a starting point to redefine your more detailed line Art drawing before you start adding colors to your illustration. Later on, you can find everything in the description. We will hang out together for awhile. So if you want to bring some water, make some tea, maybe a different drink, or preparers smug, I usually have a coffee or water nearby. I find it important to stay hydrated, so at least get some water. So when you're ready, let's get started. 3. Rules of Perspective: So in this class, we'll be using perspective and also rules of composition. So let's first talk about perspective. So I will quickly sketch simple room. So I'm just using some rectangle for debt and I'm using SSD drawing. So it will help me to create straight lines. Now, I will create a new layer and I will activate the drawing assist as well. And let me take some darker color. And now I will create a wall in the back of the room. So something like this. And I will deactivate the drawing assist. And basically when you have a room, the top walls in this view, we will go this direction. So you have to imagine the back wall of the room and you are looking from top or kind of like Lila beat from top view. So you're standing in the room. And basically this is what you see. So if you would put some elements into the room, let me create a new layer for that. Okay, we'll take maybe green. Okay, so if you would add a sofa into this room, it would be aligned with the horizon because it's in the back of the room. But if you place items in the foreground, for example, a carpet, it would have to be aligned with this part of the room. So it will go this direction. And if you add the sofa on this side of the room, it would be aligned with these as well. But on this top part, it would be in the middle of the wall. So these lines go first upwards, here in the middle are more straight and here are they going downward. So in the same goes on this side of the room. So approximately like this. And it depends on the elements you will add to the room. So for example, if you add the window or shelves here in this part, there will be aligned with the back wall. Now, let me sketch quickly another room. So I will take maybe yellow this time. So maybe it's longer. But in similar Perspective. And now I can add the walls in the back approximately. Let's see somewhere here. Let me turn on the assisted drawing so I can quickly do straight lines. So this is not exactly in the middle. And the drawing assist. Now it's working. Okay. So now I can do straight line going downwards. Another one. So this is the back of the room. Now I will turn off the Drawing Assist and I will add these lines going upwards. So as you can see, it doesn't have to go to the corner. But more you draw from references, the more you notice it quite quickly. But basically these lines have the same angle. So this one is not more angled like this or like this. So they are more in the same angle. So you can imagine basically moving this black part of the room so you can place it, for example here, where you can place it here or here. So there are a little bit like the back wall is little bit off-center that you can do also here to have a higher ceiling, but they are in the same angle. So if I place it here, now I can add some of these furniture elements. And let's see. The drawing assist can be on for the straight lines. So first maybe I will add the carpet. So it's aligned with the back of the room. Here. I need to turn off the drawing assist now. Here it would be align with the side of the room. If I draw a table, that would be the same case. So aligned with the sides of the room and the back of the room as well. So I can erase this. Oops. Let me make the smaller. I can erase this part. Then I can add the legs of the table. And then if I want to add TV, it would be more straight here. Going downwards here, aligned with the corner of the room, going downwards. Then if I add a table, it will look something like this, going downwards, down. And then if we add maybe Painting to a wall here, it will follow perspective, something like this. And you can also add the sofa. So we can imagine like more angular sofa. So these big part will be somewhere here, following the shapes of the room. This will be something like this. You can always bring in like Perspective grids. But I like to work more in this way when I just imagine what is aligned with what. But I will prepare some of these Perspective grids for you so you can look at them and it's easier for you to draw these. So this is the idea how to approach this Perspective when drawing a room from this type of angle. 4. Rule of Third: Okay, Now let's talk briefly about Composition. I will skip to the room very quickly. So we have the frame of the room. So something like this. I think I want to Draw a landscape layout. So that's the first thing you want to think about. Do you want your room to be more in portrait or more in landscape? Then the second thing is, I want to consider rule of thirds because that's something I use most of the time when drawing landscapes, portraits, or any other illustration. And I'm thinking how I can use the rule of Third. And you can watch my full class on composition with all the details what I'm considering within the composition. But now, Let's talk about a rule of thirds. So now when I have the main grid of rule of thirds kind of sketched out, let me quickly show you what I'm usually thinking about. How I use the rule of thirds and many other artists as well is placing the main elements on these intersections. So for example, you can have a character standing in this part of the room, and then you can have another character may be sitting in this part of the room and then fill the space around them. But because I want the character to be maybe reading and see things so I can place the character may be close to this part of the room. So she will be reading here. So she will be on the intersection of these lines. And maybe I can put some other important element here, maybe like a small sofa or a puff. And then I can put a kit in this part. Or you can think in different ways that maybe you will put something which is super interesting, like maybe shelves in this part with picture frames or books that you want people to pay attention to. And then maybe you can add the sofa into this part. Kind of feeling in the space. And then it's kind of on the both intersections of these. Third. And then you can add the character sitting here on the sofa. And maybe you can have another character sitting here. So that would be the kid maybe. Or you can add another character sitting here. So there might be to characters hanging together. So they can hang out together. Maybe you want is just sitting here and you can figure out different poses for how the character is sitting. So I think I liked the concept of the sofa here in the middle of the room. And maybe then in this part, I can add window. And maybe on this part, I can add shelves to emphasize the hobbies or Books or plants or something like that. And as we looked in the previous lesson on the Perspective, you can use the Perspective and create, for example, rag in this part and then feel the shapes. How you think would be the best. But thinking about these crossings of the thirds, the rule of thirds, and how you can use this. And basically also creating these perspective lines help the viewer to lead the eye towards the character. So this perspective is also helping you to create stronger composition. And now let me show you how I would quickly sketch the basic elements before we move on to the line Art 5. Leading Lines: Okay, so here is my rough sketch idea. After looking at variety of references and basing the sketch on the perspective that I showed you at the previous lessons. And now I want to review some of my other, basically things that I was thinking about and considering when creating the sketch from the composition rules. And that's basically a rule about leading Lines. So one of the leading Lines that I'm using, it's one of the ceiling lines because also this perspective helps me to create these lines pointing towards the character. And I can use the same also here, because the character is sitting in the middle on the sofa. And basically that Perspective is helping me to create these leading Lines. And also let me show you another way how you can create these leading lines. Not only based on these perspective lines, but it's also the objects that you place around the characters. For example, the sofa. You can use this one as a leading line. Also, the table. So of course the table is in perspective. So it's not only the room shape and the carpet, but also the table. And then you can also create shapes of the sofa, kind of in these type of nice kind of Shapes. And then we also have the furniture which is helping us with these Perspective and the leading Lines towards the characters. And also this shape of this kind of poof or whatever you want to call this shape of the furniture, helping us to create these nice flow in the image with the leading Lines. And of course, there are many different ways how you can use leading lines in your image. But this is what I was thinking in this rough sketch. And now let me move on to clean up these Sketch. Having this in mind when I create more cleaner stage, which will help me create the colors later on. So let's move on to the next part. 6. Line Art: In this lesson, I will show you how I would redefine the details in the rough sketch. And you can follow along and create the same line Art as me. Or you can change Bart and create your own design. More embed in a moment. If you want to create the same line Art, you can download the rough sketch image so you can follow along and practice your line Art and brushstrokes and basically the stability of your hand while growing. And you can use any brush with high opacity and preferably without the extra. Because you want to achieve a clean line Art so you can use it as a reference for your coloring. And you should be able to see the details that you want to color in and how to redefine the rough sketch if you want to alternate the design details. Well, at this stage, you can look at variety of references to design your plans, for example, in the room. And you can also explore different leaf shapes and flowerpot shapes. And of course, you can use the rough sketch as a base for your design as well. And when you are looking at references and you are considering different interior design, you might want that different lamp shape design. Or another detail you can think about is a furniture design of the sofa and the chair. Maybe you want more round shape for the furniture or more modern look and more angular shapes. And other details may be different legs for the sofa. And another detail you can adjust is what do you put in your picture frames on the wall? For example, you may add a simple landscape or abstract angular shapes or fluid blob Shapes. And if you go for a simple landscape, maybe you will draw ocean and a sky or clouds. Well, it all up to you. Of course. I will speed up this lesson. But you can always slow it down with the speed adjustment in the corner of your video player. And you can also replay the parts if you want to see the parts of the media lesson, again 7. Adjusting Your Sketch: Okay, Now, after designing the main elements based on various references, I'm quite happy with the concept, but there are few things which I can still adjust. So I merge the base shape layers with the line Art layer because I'm not going to use these lines as a final line Art and we will be creating shapes with colors and adding highlights and shadows. So now when I merge these two layers, I always make sure that I copied the Canvas before so I don't lose the artwork in case I want to go back to either the line Art or the Shapes. So make sure you do that. Now, I can go to the adjustments and select liquefy, and I can adjust some things to alternate the sketch because I feel like this part of the sofa, It's not following the Perspective and I didn't notice it before. So I can make the size of the brush here bigger. And I can push this part of the sofa little bit higher. So you can adjust your sketches quiet easily this way. And I will also push the sofa little bit lower here. Because these line, even though the sofa is curved, it should still follow similar line as the back of the room. So I will do this. I'll zoom out a little bit and I'll adjust the feet of the stains of the sofa. And I will draw a little bit on top of it because I can't fix everything with these Liquify tool, but these simple shapes I think I can there are quite helpful to start off with. And I will also adjust this pillow little bit. So let me make this little bit smaller. So it's sitting on the sofa little bit better also this top part. And I think the character needs to have arm little bit lower from this initial sketch. So I will do that on the Sketch search, and I will do that on an extra layer. So I think this is great. So now let's create a new layer. Click on the plus sign and you can use any brush that you want for this part. I'm still using my Sketch said brush, but you can use any brushes for sketching from the sketching folder or drawing folder. So let me adjust few things. Let's see if the brush size is good, maybe a little bit bigger. So I think the sofa should be somewhere around here. So the curve is here and I will curve it little bit more like this. I will clean up the sketch so I can use it for a guide, quiet easier. So I will make D stands for the SOPHAS, the same. So I will do it also on this side. I think that works. And I think there will be nice to have another kid here so you can look for different and references to sketch the kid. Or you can also watch my other class on how to draw cats from references. And I show you there how I do these studies when I draw Kids from reference images. But for now let me just quickly sketch line kit here. So maybe it has pause here. So something like this, some tail. And of course we will have to move the Pillows so I will adjust the sketch with erasing this pillow. And I think this kit would be nice if it is little a bit more stretched upward, so it's kind of like standing on the legs. So something like this. So we need the feet little bit more on the sofa. But let me reduce the opacity of this sketch so you can see it little bit better. So this layer's opacity sliding there. Okay, So going back to the brush, okay, So this kit will have a belly here, another leg. And I think the boss will be something like this plus ears. I think this is good to fix and I think I will need to also redefine the dog little bit more so I can move the phase. We will be lower and with the cute mouth. And I think the feet can be a little bit better on the sides. And then I can have the ears kind of flopping here. I think that can work. So that's something I will adjust. And here I think I will add another flower, maybe something like a pancake leaf flower. Here. Notice that the Perspective is already looking like up similar to this bulb. So these are going this way. And this one we're already looking from the top. Okay? And now onto the character. So as I said, I will move the arm little bit lower so she will be resting the hand on the leg. So basically the handle will be somewhere here. Also the book. And the back will be lower as well. So something like this. And I will make this leg bigger and longer. And the same goes for this one. So keep this part the same. And I think the foot can be bigger. And I will add little bit more hair here. And I'll also make the face little bit bigger. Something like this, and then the hair. I think these are the main adjustment. What I will do now, I will draw separate sketch with these adjustments on top of these other sketch. And I will see you in the next video with more clean-up sketch. So you can do the same, do the last adjustments, and clean up to your drawing and see you in the next video. 8. Furniture Shapes: Part 1: Alright, so here is my adjusted sketch. I added more detail so the coloring is easier for me and also you'll see better what I'm doing. So I added few details to the cat, also to this other one, also on the character. And I also define the dog little bit more. And I defined little bit more of the shelf. And I also tested out some colors. So if you are nurture, what colors to use, you can use the same color palette which I prepared for you. And you can color your illustration with these colors as well. Or if you want to explore, I would suggest you to do more color thumbnails and they style different color variations for different objects. For now, let's just color with this color palette in this class. So to do that, I will go to the layers, and I will set this layer to multiply so I can add the colors under it. Emily reduce the opacity of this layer even more. And I'm thinking, maybe I don't actually need this layer anymore, so I will hide it and then I will draw on the layer. Under this one. I will click on the plus sign and drag this layer under my sketch layer. For coloring, I will be using two steps for coloring, like main two steps, I will be using one brush, which has more opaque kind of look and has more defined edge. So to do that, I will be using my three brush, which is ink marker. But you can use any other brush from, for example, calligraphy section. And you can use the monoline brush for this part. But I alike this brush to create shapes nowadays. And then we will move on to the next step. So first, I will be coloring some of the big objects and I will be considering which areas are covering different objects. So for example, this sofa is covering this lamp. So I will not have these two things on the same layer. So let's start with the sofas and always think what sits on top of another object. So on one layer, I, as I said, I will start coloring the sofas and I will speed up some of the coloring part. So you can do your own coloring as well, because otherwise this class would take for ever. And also you can test out your sketch by going to the Actions menu and flip your drawing horizontal and see if you like the layout more from this angle or from the other angle. And I'm thinking, I actually like this look, going from left to right, having the window on the left. So I will keep the drawing like this, but flipping the Canvas always helps. Do Check your drawing if you like, all the elements or something looks strange to you. So now I will go to the color palette. First day, these mid-tone blue, and I will color in this sofa first, let's check the brush size. I think this is a good brush size. And now I will just feel in the shape for the sofa following the sketch that we created previously. And I think having a little bit of the wobbly lines, it's okay because I think it adds a little bit of charm to your illustration. So now I can drag and drop. And I will move on to this mini sofa with the dog. Drop the color. And I have also these planned in the foreground. So I think I can do it on the same layer and the same goes for this table. So for the plant, I will take this mid green and I will color in the Shapes. Drag-and-drop the color. I will also draw the table on the same layer. For the table, I will take these mid brownish color And again, just fill in the shape, drag and drop the color. And I think I can do also the shelves on the same layer because nothing is covering the object here. So because we will also have the dog here, so I will do this line first. Maybe it's too thick. Let's make the brush little bit smaller. Okay, I think this is fine. Okay, drag and drop the color. Same goes here. And I will draw the plants little bit later because they are sitting on top of the shelves. So it would give me hard time coloring the objects. If you want to use maybe some textures and other details. So I think this is fine and then I can draw the sulfur as well. So for the sofa, we'll take this meat pink color and drag and drop the color. And I need the legs for the furniture and they are a little bit below the eye or behind the other furniture. So I will keep them on a separate line or separate layer. So click on the plus sign, move it on the domain of the furniture so we can rename it. And for the furniture legs, I think I will keep them in this mid brown color. So let's just add them there. So we need them here to. Okay, and now we can go to the big furniture layer again. And I think we can add the frame with the kit. And on the same layer, we can also add the lamp shade and the shelf for the plants. So let's do that. I will color in this part. And of course you can have as many layers as you want. Or, you know, also, if you have limitations of your drawing software, you can work creatively around like how to use these layers. But I also like to use little layers or like not too many layers because that can create a confusion with so many layers. So sometimes I like to work with many layers and sometimes with limited amount of layers. For the lamp, I want to use these yellow color. So let me add it to the color palette because I see I don't have it there. So let's do that. And I will add that here. And also let me add the darker yellow, perfect. So the lens-shaped will be in these mid yellow tone. So make sure you are on the correct layer. And let's add the lamp shade. Need to make the brush little bit smaller. So we want to have it straight on the sides. Curve that the bottom and more straight at the top and the bottom of the lamp, I think I can do on the same layer as the legs for the furniture. So mid-tone brown. All right, I think this works well. 9. Furniture Shapes: Part 2: Okay, now let's create a new layer for pots for our plant. So to keep ourselves organized. And you can of course work with the layers is fits you. But this is one of the approaches. Okay? So for this spot, I will go for this meat blue. And I will color in the shape as we just did with the other stuff. Dropping the color. And now I can add the pot here. So for that one, I will go for pink color. Okay, this one can be maybe purple. So I will take this darker purple from these two purple. So we have here, this pot is little bit more geometrical. They are little bit different from each other. Okay, and I will do one pot here as well. So that's also purple. So something like this, we will still add the plant on top of it. So these spots can be purple as well. If you want to keep an eye on the colors, you can always turn on the reference and see your drawing here in the corner and see how your colors are balancing out. So I think this works fine and this top both can be maybe yellow. Okay, Do we have all the pots? I think we do. And I think on this layer we can add also the Colorful bumping. So for that, I will go for these, a light blue, which is the lightest from the blue tones that I have there. And I will draw the shapes here that I can drop the color. And to add more of the colors for this one, I will go for pink. All right, I think this is pretty cute. So if you decided you want to keep it on a separate layer, you can always go to the selection. Go for free hand selection tool, draw around, swipe with three fingers, cut and paste. And you can call it decorations. Perfect. So on this layer, maybe you can also add the frame. So let's go for the meat, the brown as before. Then I can draw the frame for the kid Painting. And I think middle of the painting can be yellow, but I think it would be easier to have that own separate layer. So I will create a new layer, go to colors, and select the yellow. And I will fill in the shape here. And I can rename the layer so I know what it is. Okay, and now let's create a layer for the plants. The colors, I will take the mid green tone. I will create basic shapes which are more like abstract philosophy. Plants, so something like this. And for this one, I think it can be a different type of plant, but still keeping it fairly abstract because it's still stylized illustration. So I'm not creating super realistic plants. This stage or basically in this illustration. For this one. This is kind of loosely inspired by moles. There are planned, but it's maybe a hybrid between a banana leaf and the Monstera plant and maybe fiddle leaf three. So you can look at the friend references for the plants and decide on your inspiration for the plants. I think, oops, so this was not closed. So let me take a here. So good. Now I can close it. Okay. And it down here, I think I need another layer for the plant bottom so I will draw other plants before and then I can add it on a separate layer. So this one can be similar as the one on top of the shelf. The Swan can be a bag, pancake, leaf blend, something like this. And I can add similar one here to the bottom. And plants are grade when you are adding them to perspective because they are more organic so it doesn't have to look super perfect. So let's see, we can add the plants here. Okay. We didn't add the pots for these ones. So let's go to the layer with pots. Like different color. I think for this one maybe I keep this one in brown and the other one can be maybe a beige. So I will add a base spot here. I think this works pretty cute. And here I can still add highlights so it doesn't blend with the table. Do we have all the plants and pots? I need middle of the spot, as I said, so we need a new layer. So these will be bought. And dirt. Let's call it that way. You can call it how you want for that one, I need maybe brown color because of course, it's like dirt in the pot. But maybe for that one we can take this darker brown. So let's draw these type of an ellipse here. Okay? And then we need the same also in this one. Right? So now I'm also missing this frame, picture frame, so I can go to this one. This doesn't have to have frame maybe for example. So we can take the same yellow and just draw a picture shape and drag and drop the color. And as you can see, it's a little bit verbally, but I think that's fine. And now we can feel in some of the other details. So you have to double-check if you are above the layer you want to draw on. So now I am missing the picture frame here as well. So I can draw a picture frame here. So we're still on the same layer. And I can draw the frame for this one on the same layer. And this one maybe can be in white. It's little bit hard to see with the background now. So we can change the background color for a moment. So maybe these light gray. And now I can draw the frame easier so I can see it. And we will be still adding color to the background. So there will be still some adjustments. Okay, and decorations. I think on this layer, I can draw the stand for this plant as well. So I will take the yellow and color in this stand for the plant. Okay, and we are also missing the rug here, so let's add that on a separate layer and it needs to be on the furniture legs. So let's create a new layer under the furniture. And now I created the group, so I don't want that. So let's redo that. And I think the rock can be still with the yellow color. So let's rename it. And now I can draw the rug. And again drop the color. And I will address these corners little bit. Alright, and now let's move on to color the characters 10. Characters Shapes: Now onto characters. So I will create a new layer for the animals first. So this will be any moles. And then from the colors, I will first start with this brownish tone for diskette. So let's do that. I will use the same brown color tone for this dog as well, and he will be a little bit fluffier. So I'm creating this fluffy shape, so it's not defined. At the bottom, is a little bit more defined. Okay, perfect. And now we have this Sketch, so this one can be white. Okay, maybe here, I can delete little bit. Maybe that's too much. And now for the characters, for one character, now for this character, I will create another layer. And actually I think it will be easier to create more layers for the character. So first, I will create the shirt. For that one. I will take this red color. Then I will create another cow. Then I will create another layer for depend, which is under the shirt. For that one, I will take the mid blue tone and then I will create a new layer for the hand. And for that one, I will take these one of these mid kind of light skin tone because it will work well next to the sofa color and the wall color and also the darker hair. So for this one, let's take these amid kind of orangey light color. So I am using it for the hands. Also for this other one. And they are quite simplified. Okay? And the layer is the shirt layer. So I think that will work by hiding the part of the neck with the shirt so I can use it also for the neck and face. Now I will keep the new layer for the hair. And for the hair, I will take these darker brown. And from these two, it's basically the lighter one, and it's something around here. So let's create the hair shape. Okay, we need the book and the SOC as well. So to do that, I will create a new layer here and take white. Now the book. Alright? And if you want, you can take all of these layers and create the group for the character by swiping to the right and then clicking on the group. And you can call these character Alright, and we also need some of the cushions which we don't have yet. We turn next to the characters. So we need that layer under the animal layer. So click on the plus sign. And from the colors, I will take the meat blue and create this pillow here. Then I will take the purple color and create the pillow here next to this kit. And then we also have the cat toy here. So you can design different cacti, which will be super cool to see if you do that. I would love to see what may be cat toys you have at home. So there will be superfan. And I saw this type of toy in a sharp last time that it was like kind of meeting thread or yarn, but it was a toy for the cats and he was so cute to see that. And now we're also missing the base color for these paintings, so we can add those. So Painting details. Here you can be also creative and come up with some maybe FUN painting decoration. Maybe you will add your own design. Maybe it's your favorite flower or something like that. And for this part of the painting, I am using colors which are more similar to each other. So there is not too much contrast in this part. So I will take this lighter blue. And as I can see, we need this layer under the frame layer, so I need to move that. So here are the frames. So I can add these light blue here. And then I will add this mid-tone blue in this corner. And afford the kit. I can use this light beige color. So you can imagine this kid playing with a ball that it's more abstract kind of idea of a cap. Alright, and let's add details also to this Painting. And we can repeat the same colors as we used in the other paintings. So this one is more abstract. So we can take also read because I think it works nicely with the yellow and maybe this mid purple. Alright, I think this is good. So let's see what we are missing. So we are missing the top of the bounding here. So it will be here. We can either created on the same layer if you are happy with the rest of the Bumping, or you can create a new layer for that. So you can create line and take yellow color for this part. Maybe this is too thick. So let me reduce the size. You can always adjust these line by dragging on these handles. Alright, I think this is great. I notice that we're missing one pillow, so let's add that. Let's find the right layer for that. So we have the characters are, Pillows are right here, go to colors and take white color. And I will add this below here. Perfect. I think actually the sofa can be a little bit longer going behind the character so I can adjust the shape. I can take the color, and I can just simply add a little bit of color here. And I think this works little bit better. And now let's move on to the shadows and highlights 11. Plants: Alright, so let's start creating shadows. And I think maybe we can start with the plants because they are less complicated than some of the furniture, but it's up to you and your process in the future. Which one do you actually like better or more to start? So there is no other specific reason why to start with the plants. So let's go to the layers. I will find the layer with the plants and then create a new layer and use the clipping mask for that. So now going to the colors, I will take this lightest green and from the brushes, I will be still using this one for the main highlights and the shadows. So for these bigger plant, I will just add the highlights here. On the side. I will make the brush little bit bigger, 19%. And I will add some random highlights here on the side. So I am putting the highlights on the left side because we have the window on the left side. Alright, now I will go back to colors and take this dark green and add a little bit of the shadows. At this stage, I think we can reduce the opacity of this Sketch so we can see our colors better. Alright, now on this layer, I will blend in some of the part for the shadows so they are not such a harsh contrast and with a harsh edge. To do that, I will use the smudge tool. For smudging. I will be using this brush number seven, the troll shader, but you can use different brush. For example, from airbrushing, you can take the soft brush if you prefer that, but if you have my free brush back, you can definitely use these troll shader for this part. So I will adjust the brush size to 12% and I will smudge the middle parts of the leaf. And as you can see, I have little bit of texture there. Because of that brush. There are different brushes you can smudge with. I also sometimes like to use my wash smudge brush for smudging because it also gives me this nice texture. But you can test out different brushes for this smudging part and blending. So I will just blend in the middle parts of the leaves. I can make the brush a little bit bigger for this part as well. If you want softer effect, you can adjust the opacity here. So I have it on 66%. Perfect. Now we can move on to the next planned and we're still on the same layer. So I will go back to brushes and we're still using the ink marker. And I will repeat the process on the other plants as well. Going for the light color, you then adding highlights and then adding darker color, and then using shadows. All right, I can go to this plant and repeat the same process, taking the lighter color first. But I see that I don't have these blame on the same layer. So I have to go here, click on the plus sign and create a new layer and select Clipping Mask. And now I can add highlights to these blind as well. Okay, Now let's go to these plants. So I need to go back to the original layer, which is this one. And take the light color and add highlights and shadow to all of these lands. Alright, now we have all the plants, and now I can create a new layer with some details. So I will create a new layer, call it Plan details. Now let's delete this one. And it can be called detail. And this one will not have clipping mask. So from the colors, I will take the darker green. And I can add few lines here in the middle. And I need to switch the brush to do that. So they are little bit more defined. I can do it here as well. Okay? And then on this one, I think I will add these simple lines, like you sometimes see on this pancake bland. And then some other details here. Maybe some of them are sticking out. So also with the lighter green. So it has this nice detail there. And here maybe I can add like simple line. I think these details can be cubed here to all right. I can add also a lighter line in the middle of the leaf. But I think I will do it with the mid green and I will make the brush little bit smaller. And now I can add the lighter green and even smaller 4%. And I will add a line here. Perfect. And let's make the brush bigger, 11%. And I will add some of these more detail. Lose leaves here as well. Still keeping it quiet, abstract. Then I can take the darker one and add some of them here. Alright, they think this is good. And then in this part I can do the same. And here I can add some flowers. So I will go the colors, take the red color, make the brush little bit bigger, and add some random spots. So some are bigger and some are smaller. Effect. And now on this plant, I can also add some lines with the light green. Alright, I think this is great. And now we can move to adding more shadows to other elements 12. Pots and Pillows: Alright, and now we can continue adding shadows and highlights to the other elements. So I will go to the layers, find the layer with pots, create a new layer, create a clipping mask. And I will add highlights and shadows similar to the color of the object. So this bolt is beige, so I will take these lighter beige color and create a shadow. I will need to make the brush little bit bigger and create the shadow on the right side and under the plant. And then I can move on to these other pots on the shelf. So they are these purple color. So I need these lighter color to create highlights. And you can blend them. Also like we did with the plants. Here, I need a lighter color, so I will take this lightest yellow and I will add the highlight on the spot as well. Then I will also add the shadow under the leaves. So take this darker yellow and do that. I need to go back and do it also on this boat because these plant is over growing little bit so I can take this purple and make it little bit darker, and add the shadow there. And let me add that to the color palette. Hey, we can move on to this port and it's still on the same layer. So go to the color palette and take the darker blue so it will fit. And then create the shadow under the folder, this part, which is bigger on the pot. And then how on the right side then I can smudge it. Make a brush bigger. And then also add the highlight with this lighter blue. Then we can move to this spot. Also add lighter color and darker color. And because this pot is the color of the wooed, I need to create a darker color sheets. So it will be this one, which is one of the dark browns. And then I can add shadow here. But first, I need to find the correct layer. And because I didn't create the shape for the pot, now I can draw on that layer. So I need to create the shape for these, both with these mid brown first. And it's hard to see, but it's there. And as you can see, it's already a revealing the shadow, but I dropped it. But if you want to see it better, you can always hide this layer and see if the pod has the right shape. Okay? Now I can reveal this layer and I can create the shadow. So taking the dark color and now the light one. Now I can move on to Pillows. So let's find the Pillows here. Create a new layer, create a clipping mask. And let's create a highlight on the pillow. This one is this mid purple, so I'll take the lighter purple. Draw on this top part of the pillow. And I'm creating also these fold highlights. And then I will take the dark purple and I will add the shadow behind the cat. And then I can blend these highlights. And I will reduce the strength. So the opacity of the brush. Perfect, then I can move to the next one. Check if we are still on the correct layer and select darker and lighter tones of the main pillow color. I came keep this light blue color is a shadow for this pillow as well. Now, going to the lamp shade, we have to find the new layer. So we have the paintings and we have to find the lamp shade. So this is yellow, so let's see, it's not the correct layer. So it's on the furniture layer. So we can continue adding shadows. On the layer 22 we chew of the plant in the foreground. So taking the light as the yellow and then also darker one. Alright, now when we are on the furniture layer, we can continue adding shadows on the swan. And I can split these to another lesson so we continue in the next part. 13. Furniture: Alright, now let's add some shadows and highlights on the sulfur is. So let's start with this big one. I will go to the layers and I will continue on this layer number two because it's above the big furniture. So to add shadows on this sofa, I will go to the colors and take this lighter pink. Go to the brushes, keep the same brush. Can I will add the highlight here on top of the sofa. And because the sofa is squared round and it's supposed to look quite soft. I'm creating these around the highlights and shadows as well. Now I will go and take the darker pink color. So I will take this one and I will add shadows under the characters. Then I will also add shadows here on the side and the Pillows. And also where the sofa splits into different cushions. And year at the bottom. Now I will go back to the colors and I will bag these fourth color here, which is little bit lighter than the main shadow. And I will add some of that color there too. Just to have some nice transition. Now you can blend the colors the same way as we did with other elements. I need to make the brush smaller, around 15%. And then I can blend the areas. Here. I can have the brush little bit bigger because it's a bigger area. And here I will make the brush smaller again. I added a little bit more of the shadow under the cushion. And other than that, I think all the highlights and shadows are quiet, nice. Now, we can add maybe a little bit of this darker color behind the characters. Alright, I think this is great. Now let's move to the next sofa, which is this one. Now, let's take different color. So let's start with this darker blue and create shadows. We're window here on the left side, so the shadows will be on the right side, little bit at the bottom. And as with other sofa in between those two parts of the sofa, which are like these big sofa cushions. Some shadow behind the cat. And the below. I can imagine there are a little bit of fault here on the sofa. And now let's go to the highlight. And I'm adding more highlighted here on these leftover because it's closer to the window so it can be lighter. Okay, and then blend it together. I will make the opacity of the brushes will be bigger to have a higher pressure for blending for this part. Alright, I think this is great. Now let's move on to the table. The table is still on the correct layer, so we can add shadows on the same layer. I will go to the colors, and I will take these darker brown color. And I will add a shadow on the side of the table I will add the shadow also in the middle part, where you have the wooden planks and under the pots. Now let's take the highlight. So I will take this light brown beige color and I will add highlights on the left side of the table. Here it's blending little bit with the rag so we don't need to put it there. And I will add the highlight here. Egn blended slightly. Alright, let's move to the next sofa. The dark blue window is on the left, so the shadow is on the right and under the dog. Now, let's also add the highlight. Now, let's add also shadow to the legs of the furniture. So click on the plus sign, create new layer with a clipping mask. And take the dark brown color. And we can add shadows right under the furniture. Okay, I think we have all of them. Now. We also need a shadow on the lamp. The lamp is also on the same layer. So we can add shadows here too. So under the part where the lamp is splitting into three different parts. Alright, we are missing the shadow on the carpet. So the rug, let's create new layer, clipping mask. Go to colors, take the darkest yellow. What do we have there? And again, because the light is on the left, we will create the show on the right. And I will add a lighter color as well on this left side. And we can blend it. Perfect. So now we're done with the shadows on the big sofas. And we can still need to add shadow on these shelves. So let's do that. Let's find shelves, and let's edit on the same layer. So go to the colors, the dark brown. And let's add some shadows behind the elements on the shelves. And I can add the shadow from the bottom part of the shelf as well because the light doesn't get there so easily. And let's add also highlight. The highlight on the front part of the shelves. I will add maybe only to this part. So let's make the line really be thinner. Great. And I will blend some of these shadows. Alright. And now we can move on to add shadows and highlights onto the characters 14. Characters: Alright, now let's add some shadows and highlights to the characters. So we can start with the main character, which is the human. And you can add some shadows to the shirt of the girl. So let's create new clipping mask layer. Go to the colors, and let's select this darker red color. I will add shadow under her arm. And on the faults where the t-shirt might fall. And at the bottom of the shirt, and also on the bottom of the arms and the hair. And then I can blend it in with a smaller brush size. And I will paint some of the right color back in because I blended it too much. And I can add little bit more of the shadow here at the bottom part with the darker color. I think that would work better. Now I can blend it. Alright, now let's go to the pens. So create a new clipping mask layer. The darker blue. And let's edit at the bottom of this leg. Let's zoom in. And also under the other one. And then the bottom of this one. Because we have the light coming from the top. And then under the shirt. And also here behind the arms. Now I can blend a little bit. Perfect. Let's go to the white part. New layer with clipping mask. Take the light blue. And now we can add some shadows on the SOC. And also in the book. Perfect, Let's move on to the face, create a new clipping mask layer. And let's take the darker beige color and let's create the shadow under the chin and under the hair. And here we can also create the phase. Let's take black color for the eye and brown for the eyebrow. And I will pay Get it for the lips. And beige for the lower lip. And also inside of the ear. Alright, now let's move on to the hair and create a clipping mask as well. And take the dark brown. And let's add shadow on the bottom side of the hair. And some of the lines in the hair. And then bottom part of the been or hair been or how would we call it? So. Perfect. So we have this character ready. Let's move on to the cat. Animals, create new clipping mask, and select the light blue color. Actually for this one, we can take the mid blue color. And I can draw and add shadow mainly on the leg which is in the background. And shadow on the tail, the head. And on the second pole and little bit on the belly. Blended. And let's add face, also black so it's visible Alright, now we can move on to the next kid. You choose here on the side. Let's take the dark brown and let's add shadows under the chin. And if you want to practice drawing cats from references even more, you can, of course, Check out my other class where I draw more kids in different poses. So you can really practice and simplifying. So practice simplifying drawing cats. So you get more comfortable drawing different poses and different cats. Looking at references. And I felt on this one I can add like pink pause, which can be cute. And maybe even being nose. And the rest of the face can have black features. And now let's add highlights and blend it together. And I will paint some of the begin. So not everything is super blended. But I think this works. Maybe I can change this color to something a little bit darker. So I think I will take this color because the highlights seems a little bit too light. And I think threshold we 24 can work here. I think this is little bit better. Perfect. Now let's move to the dog. We can start with the highlight because we have the color already selected. So I will add random shapes on top of the dog. So I will keep some of these, this area MT for a color because we want to add some of the colors there. So he is like a messy for. And then I will add some of the highlights on the pause and on the face. Now let's add shadows. So I'm again adding the shadows, mainly the bottom part. And in between the poles and ears to define the shapes. Now I can blend it little bit, but not too much because I want the hair of the dog to be still little bit messy, so not overly blended. And now I can add the color on the dog. I will take the red. And let's add the face as well. And I can add little bit of highlight here. On top of the nose, a little bit of the shadow. And, um, bade thing. Some of these little here strands for the, for BEC game. Alright, I think this is great. So now let's zoom out and see what we're missing. I'm missing the picture here in the frame, so let's find that one. So we have the decorations. So here's the, the shape. And I can just paint in on this layer. So I will take blue. And I can paint maybe like an ocean or sea with white, I can add the sale. And I think that's enough for this part. We still need some highlight and shadow on the stand for the plant. So it's this layer. So I need a new layer with the clipping mask. I can take lighter yellow and add a highlight. Again on the left side because of the window. Maybe this one can be even lighter, so I can make it more yellow. Now I can take the darker yellow and add that one as well. Now, blend the colors. Perfect. Okay, and now we can move to the coloring of the background to add some sense of space in terms of shadows and highlights 15. Walls: Okay, So for this part, I will go and open the new color palette because I couldn't fit all the colors into the one color palette. First, I will start with this third color, which is this greenish gray color. And I will draw on a separate layer just above the sketch layer. And we don't need the sketch layer anymore. And we will draw on this one. First, I will zoom out and create floor. So we these color, I'll just draw at the bottom, following the sketch. And now I can drag and drop the color into the shape. So we have the floor. Now, I will go to the color palette and pick these lighter green tone, which is here on the left. And then I will draw on a separate layer within the sketch that we created and softly painting in the corners. Now, I will blend it little bit. Now I will go to the color palette again. And now I will take this blue color, which is the second from the right in the second row. And I will create a new layer. And I will add some of the blue color here as well. Then I will add some of the blue behind the shelves and blood and that together. And I will add the same blue also on this side, above the window and down the wall as well. And then I can blend it. And here I will add the light beige. So we had the there. So this one, which was the third in the second row. And I will add some of the color here and blended. And I will add some of the beige color here on the top as well. Blended again. Now let's add some color to the window. We can merge these layers if you are happy with them. And now I will create new layer. Go to the colors and take, let's see, I will take the second color from the right in the first row and add color to the window. Perfect. Now we don't need the sketch anymore, so let's hide it so we can be sure about the actual colors at the end. So as you can see, we need to add some lines to separate the lines of the walls. So let's do that. I will create new layer and I will take these darkest gray and I will make the brush smaller. And I will follow the lines. What do we have of the sketch? So if you don't see them, you can always uncovered the sketch again. And now I will blend these. I'm blending them only on the lower side, so the bottom side of the line. And I'm keeping the top side more sharp. Now I will reduce the opacity of this layer and set it to multiply. Okay, I think this is quiet, nice. And I will add some more shadows. So I will create new layer above this Lines Layer. Go to the colors and take these blue color. And I will paint in these corners. And also in the bottom one Also here behind the shelves and on top of the wall. I mean, the ceiling enable blended little bit just on the edges. And I will add some of these shadows as well under the furniture. So we have to move the illustration and then blend it on this side. I'm missing some shadow here as well. Okay? And now I can set this layer to multiply and reduce the opacity. Perfect. Then I will add one more layer with the shadows under the sofa. Because there we have less light. So it will be a little bit darker there. And also under the furniture here. And I will blended as well. So now let's set it to Multiply and reduce the opacity. And you can look at your illustration and see if you need to add some details somewhere. Or you want to add more shadows or more highlights. I think I can add a little bit of the blue color here. So I will go back to this layer and I think that's, no, that's the window layer. And for the window layer, we actually need to add some lines here. So the window has some details, so I will add it with a light blue. So almost white. And now on this layer, which was the layer 35, I will add some of these light blue on top of the wall. Because I think it would add some nice detail and add little bit of color. I think we edit all the shadows and highlights, which would be great for this illustration. And now you can look at your artwork and think if you want to add some more details, for example, I can add maybe few lines on this ball and maybe some details on the carpet. So I can do that on a separate layer. So create a new layer, go back to the original color palette, take the pink color, and I will create a pattern or like a little bit of texture on these RAG following the shape of the rug. Here. I need to go just the old plant. Perfect. And here I can connect the lines. Then I can delete this part. And I can add simple cross Shapes as a texture. And here for the ball, I can add just few lines. Suggest the yarn. Alright? And I think that's it. So I hope that you love your version and your Illustration. And thank you so much again for watching. And I'm really looking forward to see your version 16. What to Draw Next?: So how did it go? I can't wait to see all your awesome artwork.
