About This Class

Have you ever tried doodling with intention? This powerful doodling practice is designed to tighten your focus and unlock your creativity. Instead of randomly drawing, a fixed structure channels your imagination to unleash a flood of ideas.

Step one: Limit your time.

  • In this mini-class, we'll create Doodles in less than 10 minutes.

Step two: Limit your theme.

  • We only doodle oranges or things that involve oranges in some fun way.

Our third creative challenge: The Doodle Story.

  • I will show you how to make up a little story while you draw. You will find that your story inspires your doodeling and what you doodle inspires you to continue the story.

Sounds like a big drawing challenge? Not at all! It's surprisingly easy.

Who this class is for:

If you are an experienced artist and feel stuck or someone who doodles just while having a Zoom call, this class is for all who want to take their mind out of standard mode.

Your Resources and Tools:

  • Download your worksheet from the Resources section on Skillshare. It includes my Doodle sketch for you to follow along in class before practicing on your own.
  • Other than that, all you need is a pen and paper.

How to prepare:

This class is prompt 7 from its big sister class, The Creative Juice which takes you step-by-step through the creative process. From sketching to incubation, and finally to 6 creative exercises to challenge and strengthen your creativity. If you haven’t watched the class yet, I highly recommend you watch at least the sketching lessons.

1. About Doodling With Intention: Have you ever tried doodling with intention? This powerful doodling practice is designed to tighten your focus and unlock your creativity. Instead of randomly drawing, a fixed structure channels your imagination to unleash a flood of ideas. Step one, limit your time. In this mini class, we'll create doodles in less than 10 minutes. Call it the fast and the focused. Step two, limit your theme. We only doodle oranges or things that involve oranges in some fun way. Our third creative challenge, the doodle story. Make up a little story as you draw. You will find that your story inspires your doodling and what your doodle inspires you to continue the story. Sounds like a challenge. Not at all. It's surprisingly easy. To help you get started, get your worksheet in the resources section on skill share with a sketch of M Doodle. This way, you can follow along in class before trying it out on your own. Other than that, all you need is a pen and paper. Are you ready to speed up your creativity? Then let's doodle with intention. I can't wait to see you in class. 2. Your Tools & Your Project: Great to have you here. To get started, you'll need a pen and paper or anything you can draw on. Also, grab your worksheet from the resources section of Skillshare. Now, this class is number seven from its big sister class, the creative Jews, which takes you step by step through the creative process from sketching to incubation. And finally, to six creative exercises to challenge and strengthen your creativity. If you haven't watched the class yet, I highly recommend you watch at least the sketching lessons. Your project is really easy. Once you've finished, o Doodle page, take a photo or screenshot and shed on our project gallery here on Skillshare. Got your pen and paper ready, then let's dive right into doodling. 3. Let’s Doodle: Let's get started. We begin down here in the lower left corner. Feel free to draw anything that comes to mind. I'll start with this little car. The key to intentional doodling now is to incorporate elements related to our, two oranges. For example, you could depict half an orange in the car's window or draw the tires as small orange slices. Our goal with intentional doodling is to discover as many unique orange themed doodles as possible. It works best if you invent a little story related to oranges while you draw. And then let that play out in your doodles. Feel free to chat aloud to yourself. There's nothing crazy about it. It simply helps us to spark our creativity. Look, I've drawn a branch. Now, I can tell the story of a sunny Sunday as an orange car drives through the colorful hills of orange grove, where two radiant oranges hang from branches shining like the sun. We create our doodle story on the go without any judgment freely while we doodle here. Perhaps you recognize this first orange friend from our sketching practice in the creative Juice, where we captured emotions or emotional oranges or emoji oranges. Okay, that's clearly not a robber on the branch. It's the friendly orange called Ongilo who loves giving away the heart. Ah, I see. The heart is for his friend, who's trying to stop the car. And how does the juicy friend do that? He bravely stands in the way and starts the orange scare. The most terrifying grimace these friendly fruits can make. Now, you can tell one funny story after another, and it doesn't matter what comes to mind or how you tell it. Just doodle your oranges alongside. Way, we challenge two creative goals. Firstly, the creative theme. Everything you doodle should be about oranges. The second creative focus is on the narrative. The creative storytelling that continues to unfold and that encourages you to doodle. It's like a super dynamic game of ping pong between storytelling and drawing that gets your creative juices flowing. And while I'm talking to you, I see that the startled orange was just trying to protect her little friend on the bike because he's pretty wobbly on his wheels. It's just a normal summer stay here in orange land. And of course, we need an extra sunshade. Half an orange will work great as an umbrella. At a little stem, and there you go. Oh, look, someone in Orangia has already found a cool spot by the sea. And at the head of the wave, the MS fearless fruits storms across the open sea on a long cruise. You can draw with quick sketches or in slow line work. I'm a very slow doodler. So for the sake of this class, I've sped up the video from time to time to keep within our time frame. So speaking of time, this is also important. Aim for five to 10 minutes. It takes the pressure off to fill the entire page or to achieve a specific result. Just check your ego at the door and dive into orange doodle storyland, or the orange universe for less than 10 minutes. Your imagination is the star of the show. If you run out of ideas, think back to the prompts of the creative Jews, where we worked with analogies. So simularities between two elements were used to connect them in an unconventional and humorous way. For example, we had an orange banjo and leave notes. Isn't it fantastic when you're out on the sea, looking at the night sky, while the little cheerful, juicy melody plays, and you are drinking an ice cold orange cocktail. You see, everything is possible on your page. Try to relax by taking your mind out of standard mode, draw, talk, and have fun. Orange land is the land of no hurry and no pressure. We also have a little snail orange guardian to keep an eye on the speed limit. Little orange friend on the bike. Have you got it? No speeding. Oh, I think he says yes. Let's confirm this. Yes. And above us, there's something very special. A orange hot air balloon. This is my little tribute to Mr. Doodle, who is the world's best doodle storyteller. Check out his videos and amazing art. He would doodle anything from your clothe to your toes. Oh, heads up, air traffic ahead. Ah. This little orange feather is clearly on a big journey. Oh, look how cute. Good luck, my friend, and maybe you sent me a letter. You keep it juicy and add a few details if you like. When the time is up, I'll see you for some final thoughts and to submit your project. 4. Wrap up & Submit Your Project: Congratulations. You have mastered your orange doodle adventure. Here's what you've learned to keep doodling with intention. Step number one, limit your time. Five to 10 minutes will work great to get into the flow and not feel overwhelmed. Step number two, limit your theme. If you like, continue to doodle oranges. A clear theme helps to narrow your focus. Step three, the Doodle story. Remember to make up a story as you draw. This will inspire your doodling and what you doodle will inspire your story. Jump onto this creative Cesaw to get your creative juices flowing. Don't forget to share your doodle page as a project in the project section here on Ska share. And if you enjoyed this mini class, I would be Uber happy to receive your review, and it's really easy to do here. I hope to see you at one of my other classes I teach here on Skill Share.
