1. Introduction: Hello and welcome to
my course on how to design Instagram templates
that you can sell on Etsy. In this course,
we're going to be following my step-by-step
process using Canva to create a series of templates with a
marketable theme. My name is Rebecca and
I'm a designer and owner of several Etsy
digital product shops. Instagram templates are one of the many items that I've
found success with Anansi. And in this course
I'm going to share with you my process and notes from my experiences selling
this kind of digital product. This course is focused
on just designing and preparing the specific
kind of template for sale. If you want a more
in-depth look at setting up your Etsy
shop for success. Check out my other
course called build a successful digital
product shop on Etsy. After you take this one, Instagram templates are one of the most in-demand
digital products that you'll find on Etsy. But it's difficult to break into this large market and stand
out without a strategy. If you're ready to learn how
to start creating templates that customers can't wait to buy, then let us get started.
2. Template Basics: If you've ever bought a template
from a designer before, then you know that often
you're able to get a much more stylish
and custom look with a template purchased
from an individual, instead of just relying
on the ones that come for free with
your design tool, we're focusing on Canva
as our design tool in this course because it has a
very low barrier to entry, it offers a lot
on the free plan. It's easy for
customers to navigate accessing the templates
that they've purchased. Canva templates are
exchanged via a direct link. Once you create your design, you can create a template
link that allows anyone who clicks on it to use that design in their own Canva account. It doesn't modify
your original design, but rather creates a copy of it in someone else's account. When you sell a
template for Canva, you need to provide the
customers with that direct link. There isn't a way to sell
a link on Etsy exactly. So you need to put that
link in a document. I usually prefer a
nice InDesign PDF so that they can download it and click on
the template link. After purchase. We're going to go
through all these steps together over the next
couple of lessons. But first, here's a few notes on creating templates in Canva. Not everyone who will
buy your template off Etsy is going to have
a Canva pro account. In fact, based on my experience, most people don't have one. That means that if
you use graphics or photos in your templates that
are meant for pero counts, your customer won't
be able to download their customized design
without being prompted to pay. This definitely will
not make them happy. So I strongly recommend that you only use free elements
in your designs. I'll show you how to filter for those when we're in
the design space. Canada only allows
a single document to have a maximum of 100 pages. That means that
each template you create can only have
100 designs in it. If you were designing a
really big collection, then you'll have to create
more than one Canvas file to accommodate all
of those designs. This isn't a big deal, but you'll need
to make sure that your customer understands
that they're going to be receiving two or more
links that will let them access the whole collection
of the designs they bought. Now this is more of an
administrative tip, but it can be really
easy to lose track of all those designs that
you've made in Canada. I recommend using their
folder system to separate your templates that
you were selling from your other design work. You don't want to accidentally
delete or edit a file that customers are trying to access through their template links. Some template
designers will include stylized photos
in their designs. You can get these from
Canvas library of images, but others will include
placeholders for the customer is meant to drag and drop their own photos in. The second option can be nice, but in my research in reading the comments left on those
kinds of templates on Etsy, I see that sometimes
customers are surprised and expected the stock photos in the demonstration
images to be included. This is why I recommend
using public domain or royalty-free images for
your template collections. Luckily, Canvas library has more options and we could
ever possibly need. You just need to do a
little bit of searching to find images that suit
your templates themes. Now in terms of Instagram
templates specifically, there are a few different styles that you'll see for sale. The first type is
feed templates. This is what you might
automatically think of. They are square images that have themed designs that
are ready to be edited with custom text or images and then dropped
into your Instagram feed. The second type
is the templates. These are templates
that are posted in your Instagram stories. These are most popular with
businesses or blog accounts, more so than personal accounts. Often you'll see these
bundled together with feed templates to create a
sort of branded package. The third type is
puzzled templates. These are templates for
your Instagram feed, but they create a large, cohesive image when
posted together. These are more
complicated to design and more complicated for
your customer to access because they require
some extra instructions to explain how they
divide up the graphic. But it is a popular
format to find on Etsy. We're going to be focusing on the regular feed
templates in this course. However, you can
definitely transfer the skills to other types
of templates if you like. Finally, there's no
set number as to how many designs need to be
in your template collection. I would suggest that 12
would be a minimum since your customers want to feel like they're getting
their money's worth. However, you'll often see
bundles that are much larger. I'd recommend starting it with a more moderately sized bundle. Maybe aim for 30 designs, which is one for every
day of the month. And then when you
have several listings with different styles on Etsy, you can combine those into money saving bundles for
your customer. This little primer in mind, let's dive into the next lesson and pick our templates theme.
3. Finding Your Niche: As I've mentioned before, Instagram templates are one of the most popular digital
products on Etsy. They're largely purchased
by people who have something they need to share
or promote on social media, but who don't have
a lot of time or design skills to create branded graphics
for their account. A good way to differentiate your templates from
all the others on Etsy is by trying to target a very specific
kind of customer. Think about what kind of Instagram accounts
need templates. Chances are you follow some
of these accounts yourself. You can do this kind of
research on Etsy itself, but I like to use the tool ie rank to do keyword research. It offers some
searches for free. So if you haven't used a
tool like this before, I'd recommend checking it
out to see what you might learn it over onto that website. Now, I will do a screen
share and show you what kind of results it shows us
for Instagram templates. I'm here in my E rank account and the website, if
you were interested, is just ERA and k.com.
I'm logged in here. I have a basic account, but you can definitely access several keywords searches
with a free account. It's a good way to get
started and just to experiment if you're just giving your toes into the
water with selling digital products on Etsy or
any kind of products really. But don't want to
commit necessarily to subscribing to something. I've gone over to their
keyword explorer tool, that's the page bond right here. And I'm going to enter
the keywords that I want to see some search terms. What we're gonna be
looking for is Instagram. Template. Event has given
us a lot of data here. We can see right
here trend alert is keyword is in popular on
Etsy over the past week. That's pretty much
always true because it's a very popular
keyboard in general. The first bit of data
that we get here is that average per month, there's 11,463
people looking for this keyword and 11,316
of them click on links. So they search for it
and then they click on a product which is a
really good return. So that's a 99% CTR
click-through rate. And the downside to this is this big number
right here in red, which is 82,264, which is the number of
competition there is. That's how many
listings come up when you search for
Instagram template. It's a lot of competition. There may in fact be even more. This is just kind of scooping this one section of
the keyword market. But this is a good reason
that we need to differentiate a niche down in order to
stand out in this crowd. Because we do have 11 thousand people searching and clicking, which is really, really good. If we look at this graphic, it shows search trends and
lets you know if this is a random trend that
has happened out of nowhere or if it's always busy. So the etsy trend right
here is the orange line and it seems to be that it's low
in February of last year, but it goes up and up and up. I find this data isn't
particularly useful because unless you're
selling something seasonal, like Christmas theme template, maybe you don't really need
to worry about seasonality. And then it shows
you Etsy searches by country in the United States is the biggest
piece of that pie. I do find this to be true. Most of my digital products are bought by people in the US, but I definitely have lots
of sales in the EU as well. Let's go down to the
interesting part, which is the keywords. Right here on the left we have all these different variations of the keyword that we typed in. Then it shows search trend, whether it's popular
certain times of the year, the
character count. This is helpful
because when you are entering keywords on
your Etsy listing, which you get 13
keywords you can add. They have a maximum, I believe, of 20 characters. This will show you quickly
if this keyword is too long to go in the box there, then we have average searches. So how many people are
typing it in per month? As we can see, the
very first entry is just Instagram template. So we see that 11 thousand
number average clicks and then the click-through rate with
how many people actually search and then click
the competition number. These numbers over here are
useful and interesting, I guess, but not really
for our purposes here. This is if you were maybe going on to market
on Google as well. For now, let's look here. So we have these filtered
right now by average searches. So the keywords with the most searches are at
the top in the green. So ideally you would
want to find something that was dark green and
all of these boxes, because that meant
that there's ton of people searching and
not very many products, which is kind of the sweet spot really for any Etsy product. However, I found that as long as there's any number here really, there's not too
much competition. It's a good opportunity. For example, right here
is a good case studies. We have dog Instagram template. So think about who might
be looking for this. This could be someone
who is running an Instagram account
for their dog. Lots of people do this as
sort of a way to build a little influencer account without having to put
their own faces on it. Or just for fun, even we have 384 people searching per month for
this kind of template. And a good click-through rate. We have 67% of them click, but there's only 310 templates
for them to look at. That's not actually very many, especially because lots of
them may not even be relevant specifically to this dog's
could be a good niche. For example, you can skim down through this list of keywords
to find different niches. So we have Instagram engagement. The first of these are
sort of more basic, Just Instagram post
Instagram template, etc. But as you get a little
bit further down, you get more complicated. So here's the Instagram
puzzle template. We looked at those a little bit. That's just a style of
creating for Instagram. And we have carousel templates, again, another style of post. But then we get into
niches. So we have the dog. Instagram product, Instagram. So that's a business
who's selling a product and they
need to feature. This would be
especially helpful for products or businesses
that have one item they're selling rather
than whole line or styles just have one thing. It would be very
difficult to create content all the time
for a single products. So that could be a
really good niche. We see we have just a little bit of competition here for that. Instagram template for
education, e-commerce, sports. Blue podcast, green, realtor, boutique, Navy and silver. Sports again, clothing, greenery, travel,
virtual assistant, plant, crafters, chiropractor,
business coach, beauty. And it just goes on and on. There's so many
different ideas here. As you can see, we are getting low in the average searches, but with over a 100
searches closer to, I still think of this
as a viable option, especially here where
we have 15 results, but a 175 searching, that's still a
really good margin. I think that's good. And they topic is money
tips, Instagram templates. So that could be a
financial advisor. It could be someone running
some sort of program or coaching that they offer that's around
financial literacy. So this can give you
some good ideas of what kind of niche
you may want to pick. In this case, let's scroll
back up and I'm going to go back to the dog
Instagram templates. This is our example. I'm going to click on it here. Now, Iran gives us some more
data about this keyword. Specifically, it looked
at a 100 keywords. It seems that the average price of these templates or $8.10, I believe these
are in US dollars. Average hearts total views. So this is a lot
of views actually. And if we scroll
down a bit, we see more keywords that are used for these
particular templates. I see pet template, dog groomer, dog
quotes, dog lover, dog trainer, all sorts of keywords you could use an
addition to the original one. These are the categories
they get put in. Typically, there's not a really good category
system for digital products. You'll often find it
in paper and paper supplies download
Blade templates. If we scroll down,
we'll see more keywords here which can be helpful. But I find that sometimes
they're a little bit reductive at this point. But if you keep
going down the page, we see the price
ranges right here. So that's helpful because it
kind of looks like they sort of cap off at $27 or so. Here's a bunch of
synonyms for the words. These aren't necessarily
being used on Etsy, but these are just
ideas for you. If you're looking
for diversification, then it shows you the top
listings for these results. This is really great
because it lets you basically spine
your competitors. And if I just look at the
titles here of the top results, we have Instagram post
template for dog cat business. Not specifically about dogs, but generally on topic. We have social media posts
for dog and businesses, 50 Instagram templates for
dog business owner and so on. And you can see the
information here. How old is this listing? So this has been
up for 273 days. It has this many views, this many daily
views on average, this many hearts people have liked it, and here's the price. So it really gives you
some great data to help figure out what is
your competition doing? How do you want to maybe
set this up while keyword, should you use a
pricing, should you use? And by looking at
these, you can see how many designs other people are including in their
templates as well. So this bundle has 60, this one has 50 plus. And you can see those
two are priced a little bit higher than
everything else here. Now you don't have to keep
using E rank for this. Once you have your keyword, you can just go over to
Etsy and try that instead. I typed in dog
Instagram template. And here we are seeing pretty
much the same designs. These ones were at
the top of the page. We can scroll down and
see that the rest of these items aren't necessarily
templates for Instagram. They're like logos
and things like that. But there are some other
examples that might inspire you. As we saw from Iraq, there are lots of
different niches that you can target with
Instagram templates. However, I would
encourage you not to feel restricted
by those terms, but instead be inspired. There were lots of
different niches that need templates that
aren't represented here. One of my best-selling templates is for a hobby based community that I'm part of and you don't see it anywhere in
the search results. The two streams that you could, if for template targets
are businesses and Hobbes, business owners could be
looking for templates for their hair
salons, restaurants, bakeries, pet grooming services, coaching practices,
therapy practices. Just about any kind
of entrepreneurial venture you can think of. As for hobbies, I really think
that it's best to aim for something that you
personally enjoy or at least know a lot about. That way you'll have insider
knowledge of what kind of designs and template types
of customer might want. This goes for
business templates to some hobbies that
you might want to consider targeting our cooking, travel art or illustration, textile ART, outdoor
activities or pets. Once you've chosen what theme or niche you're going to
target with your templates, then you need to figure
out what kind of designs your
customers will need. Let's look at that
in the next lesson.
4. Identifying Content Topics: While you certainly can
make templates that are just decorative
frames for photographs, you'll probably find that
it's difficult to create a ton of designs and stand
out from each other this way. Instead, I recommend
finding a few types of content than your customer
might want to share. These template
topics will help you create categories of designs, which makes it a
lot easier to build a larger collection of
Instagram templates. Let's think of an example. Maybe your target audience
is a pet grooming business. Think about what
kinds of content they'd want to post
in their feed. Some examples could
be features on specific pets that leg
room with customer photos, information on services
that they offer. Tips on at-home grooming
or maintenance, or cute and inspiring
photos of pets. Now since you're
designing templates and not running these accounts, you don't have to create
the actual content here, but you will need to
find placeholders. And this is why it can be a good idea to have some sort of background or understanding and the niche that you're targeting. Out of these examples
I just mentioned, two of them focus on photos
and too focused on text, or at least a
combination of both. That means that you
have some variety when it comes to
designing your templates. Before you head into
the designing phase, I recommend that you
sit down and write out some content
ideas for your niche. If you're stumped, try
searching online for Instagram, post ideas for the
nation question. There are a ton of resources
out there that provide business owners or
other Instagram accounts with content ideas. They just don't usually
contain any design tips. That's where we can step in
and provide our services. I would recommend identifying at least three template topics
that you can design for. There should be one style
that is photo-based, one that is text focused, and one that is a
hybrid of both. In the next couple of lessons, I'll show you some
ideas on how to style all three
of these formats. Another point of consideration
is picking a color scheme. Your target niche might have some expected design standards, but generally lighter
colors are more popular. Think about the vibe your
customer is going forward. It could be playful, minimalist,
feminine, futuristic. This will help you
identify graphics and colors to pick for
your templates.
5. Designing Photo-Based Templates: Over the next three lessons, I'm going to show you
some hands-on design tips on how to create these Instagram templates that you can sell. Now first things first I
have Canvas open here, and we're just going
to start by going to the Instagram posts
template that they offer. I can click on it here, but
you can also find it by just searching in their
bar for Instagram. This will bring up all sorts of different sizes
that you can use, including Instagram, ads, posts, stories, whatever
you're looking for. I'm going to click
on Instagram posts, which is gonna give us a
1080 by 1080 pixels graphic. It's worth noting
here that Canada has a lot of templates
that you can look at. In fact, they have over
200 thousand templates for Instagram posts. It's important to note
that you cannot resell these templates on
Etsy or anywhere else, but you can use them
for inspiration. In this first lesson, what
we're going to be making our Instagram posts
based around an image. So as we scroll down, you
can see which pictures have a photograph or an image
as the main option. For example, here we have a photo with a little
bit of text on top. This is an example. I'm more of a hybrid posts, so there's a lot
of texts that is significant to read
plus an image. There are also lots
of examples of posts that focus on texts. For example, we have a quote here with the name of
the cooler underneath. Here's another
example of a quote, and these use different graphic elements to be interesting. Well, still not fully featuring
a photograph exactly. If you're stumped
on your design, definitely take a look
through here for inspiration. Just remember you can't use the exact template
that they're offering, but definitely think about it from a structural point of view. Whereas the text,
whereas a photograph, whereas an illustration
in the image itself. And how can you
reproduce that kind of structure in a way
that suits your niche? For now, I'm going to
go up and click on create a blank Instagram
post to get started. Now, I'm going to show you
two different variations. It obeys Instagram
posts template. And for both of them are
going to start by going to elements and
looking for frames. You could do this
just by clicking in the search box and
typing in frame. All of these pictures here with this image with the
green hills in the sky. That's just a place holder
and it's where you can basically drag and
drop in a photograph. These are great to use
because it makes sure that your graphic asset is
a fixed size or shape. And your customer can just
drag and drop their picture in with Audi distorting
the overall template. I'm going to add a
second page here, and then I'm going to
pick two different frames to work with for examples. The first one I'm going to
pick as the square one with a white border that includes
some photograph details. It's sort of looks like you
have a Polaroid or something. That, for the second one, I'm going to pick
this square one with no extra
borders or anything. But I'm going to
place it slightly off so there is a border
on one side of the page. Just like that. These two different styles
we're gonna be creating. One that has a fancy background is sort of the accent feature. And the other is going to have a side border and some
overlay decoration. First, let's pick a niche that
we're going to work with. I think this is going to be
a coffee shop based theme. So in order to find some
pictures that fit that vibe, I'm going to go into Canvas photo library
right over here on the side menu up
in the search box, I'm going to type
game coffee shop. Now it says photos Pro
because I have a Pro account, but I'll show you in just a moment how to make
sure that you're only finding photos that are
available for the free account, which is what I
strongly recommend you do when you were
selling templates, not all of your customers are
going to have pro accounts. I'm going to type
in coffee shop. There are tons of
photos that come up. Before I go through
them, I'm going to go over to this little filter tool. Click on that and I'm just
going to click on free. That way it makes sure
that I'm not including any pro photos that
would be prompted to pay if anyone used them
in their design and didn't have a Pro
account, hit Apply. And now we can see there are still hundreds and hundreds of photos so we can use
that are all free. And based on coffee shops, I mentioned that I find
that a lighter theme tends to be more popular. I think it's a
little more visually attractive on Etsy listing. So I'm gonna use
lighter photographs as my sample ones for
these templates. For the first one,
I'm going to use this outdoor photograph of
the front of a coffee shop. We can pretend that's our
business that we're featuring. And for the second
one, I'm going to grab this photograph that looks kind of like a candid that someone took
in a coffee shop. In order to position it
correctly on the template, I'm just going to double-click
and that will let me move the photograph around within that frame we've
placed in this case, I'm going to drag it up so that the coffee cup is fully in view. And then I will click
Done and it is cropped. These two photos have a lot in common because they are
very similar colors, but both light with a lot of whites and creams
in the background. They have this sort
of gold brown color in the detail there. And the mug is a similar color. And if I was creating
a full collection of templates around this
theme or at a coffee shop, I would go through the photographs
here that Canva offers all the free photos and
find more photographs to use as placeholders that
match that color scheme. As you can see as
I scroll through, there are a lot of
options like this. It seems that this particular
niche coffee shops has a sort of warm brown
based color palette, which is understandable
because that is the color of coffee
or latte art. If you wanted to
get more creative with it at this point,
you could drag. Their colors to compliment it. For example, with
these colors here, maybe a pink or green would look really nice as
an accent color. Let's start off with the
first design and work on design the background
for this template piece. Now when trying to pull together
other graphic assets to use for a template based
on a theme like this, you want to start to
think about textures, colors, tones, and
different aspects of graphics that you
can pull together to be visually
interesting together, this is where the real artistry of design, where it comes in. It's about finding
different aspects that aren't related
to each other, but that look good together to represent a theme or
message behind the brand. Now I'm going to go for three
different design elements or graphics to use in
the background here, the first thing I'm
going to look for is a photograph to fill in
the overall background. And I like to go
through and search for photographs based on the
texture I'm looking for. When I think about coffee shops, I think about those
big canvas bags or rough fabric bags that
the coffee beans come in. If I look for a textured fabric, lots of options come up here. And down here. This is what I'm looking for. It's almost like a burlap. This is actually more
with the bags look like, but it's a bit dark
for a template. So I'm going to
drag and drop this one into the background. And again, I'm gonna
double-click to reposition it. I liked this beam of
light going through it. But as I look at this photo, I think that's a
little bit dark, maybe a little bit cool tone
for what I'm looking for. I'm gonna do is edit this image and click on edit
image right there. I'm going to go to adjust. Then I can adjust that
photo a little bit. I'm going to up the saturation, which will make it a
little bit warmer. I will up the brightness
a little bit. Now that photograph,
the texture in the background is a little more on theme with the
photo in the middle. Now the second element
I want to add is something to divide up
this background right now it's just a photograph on a background which
isn't terribly original for a template
that somebody's paying for. Of course, you
could add a few of these into your collection, but I'm trying to show you
some more complex designs. When I'm trying to think
of a material or a graphic or something to
divide this image up. I think about what people
do at coffee shops. Well, I'm a designer,
so I do a lot of writing and working
at coffee shops. Paper is a texture
that comes to mind. I'm going to go into the
search bar again for photos because I think a photo
acid would look good here. And I'm going to
type in torn paper. Just double-checking
that I need to turn the free filter back on. There are lots of
options here of photographs of torn
paper that I can use. I'm going to look for
a light one that I can use just to brighten up
this overall picture. And I'll grab this one. As you can see, it's sort of a photo that somebody
is cut out graphically. So I will take this and make
it a little bit larger. And now that it's about half
the size of the picture, I'm just going to
rotate it slightly just for a little bit
of visual interest. I'm sure I cover that bottom
edge and then I'll go to position and I will
send it to the back. So I like how this
looks, the rough edge. Let's pretty interesting to me, the different colors
kind of work together. And I think we're
getting towards a bit of a coffee shop vibe here. But you see that
this bottom section is a little bit bright. It isn't as well-balanced
as the rest of the piece. So adding a graphic on top here, maybe a line art, floral or a leaf would look
really good to kind of balance out the
light and dark tones at different sections
of this image. For this, I'm going to go over
two elements and I'm going to look for a graphic
instead of a photo. I think I'm gonna
go with a leaf. Now, you can see in
this sample photo there are palm leaves here too, though my customer
may not be using palm leaves in their
actual photograph. It is representative
of a style and a feeling that I think
suits this template. So I will search for palm leaf. I will make sure that
free is turned on. I'm going to filter
this by graphics. And there we go. We have a lot of options. I'm going to scroll
through this and you can try out a few
different options, but I'm looking for
something that isn't going to be so jarring. It should be
something similar to the tones already
in this picture. Now this leaf right
here is pretty similar to the colors
that we already have. I'm going to click to add it. And there's lots of ways
I could position this. I could put it slightly
overlapping the photo like that. I can make it bigger so
it's picking up the corner. In fact, I think I'm going
to leave it like this. I think it balances
out the photo. Well, now that I have all
these assets together, I can adjust them
to make sure that the overall composition of the template works
well together. This, I'm actually going to
make this photo a little bit bigger and centered again. Now I've just returned back over to the photos
tab to look at more coffee shop photos
to show you that you can drag and drop in other
photos at this point. And they would still
look pretty on theme. This totally different
coffee shop or a restaurant even
looks pretty good. As does this straight
up cup of coffee. When you can swap in
different photographs and see that the template
still looks nice. You know, you've come
up with a great design that people can use
in different ways. Now, I'm just going to
revert this back to our original photo
because I quite liked it. Will start on the next template. For this design. I'm going to change the color
of the background here, and I'm going to add
some graphic assets, maybe leaves or flowers to go
along with our other design in the file so that they have some sort of similarity to them. Let's start off by changing
the background color. I think I'm gonna go with
a cream color, something. Like this one in
the top graphic. I will click on the
background color here. Now, I've lots of backgrounds
and colors saved here. You can see up top, this green color is a document color is
already being used. That's the color used
in the leaf here. And if I scroll down further, it says photo colors. This is pulling
the colors out of a certain photo in
this composition. In this case, it's hard to see, but it's actually the
white background, the torn paper graphic
that we used already. So to this end, I could
pick one of the colors from that to use as our
strike background. I think this sort of cream off white color looks nice in
complimentary with this photo. So at this point I want to add some graphics and
elements to jazz this up a little bit so I
can go the elements again and get some
inspiration here. I actually really
liked the leaf that we used and you can always see more images in that
same collection by clicking on the
graphic asset, clicking on the information I
write here on the top menu. And it will say See
More like this. When I click on that, it shows me all these
other graphics that are from the same
collection or similar. Now as I scroll through,
we have a couple of different leafs and
botanical images here, but a lot of ones
that are in for children and that doesn't
really suit my theme at all. In this case, I'm
not going to use anything from the
similar collection. However, as I scroll through the palm leaf search already,
this leaf right here, it's a monstera leaf
is pretty similar in style to the leaf
we already used. I can add that to our
second design here. I'm just going to
leave it there as I searched for a collection
of other images, I'll use this leaf as
well and this one. Now these three graphics were maybe not designed
by the same people, but they are similar
in that they have one color and sort of a rough, almost blobby shape to them. So they have a similar style. As I click on each of them, you see that I can
change the color by going up to this
box right here. This teal color one isn't exactly in the same tone family as everything else I'm making. I can click on it and pick
a color I'm already using. In this case, it's the green
from this plant right here. Now I have these three images. I can arrange them however it looks pleasant on
the other side. You can rotate them, make them bigger or smaller
and let them overlap. Now this is a pretty
simple template overall, but I think I like the
composition of it because we have the darker elements on top of the light
background over here. That means that we can
use a photograph with some dark and light
elements as well. Now going over to the
photo collection again, we can put it to the test
by dragging and dropping in some other photos to see if they still look good
with this template. We can try this photo
here with this gentlemen. I think that looks
nice because there's so many photonics in
the background as well. I can try this one of
a working coffee shop. I would drag and drop the image a little bit
more aligned there. I think that this still
looks pretty decent, although it is a
little bit busy. So perhaps more simple photographs
work better with this, particularly at
two large degree. These are choices that your
customer is going to make. They're going to decide
what photos look fastened each template
they've bought. But as long as you can
identify a kind of photo that works well in the template,
then you should be good. This one, for example, probably works better with
something that isn't too busy or has a large
central focus. I could try this one here. I think that looks okay. This photo of a woman reading in a coffee shop looks pretty good with this
template as well. But I'm going to revert back
to our original picture. The important thing to
remember when you are designing these
types of templates, the ones that are meant
to focus in on an image is that you need
to let the image to be the star of the show. Everything that you put around. It needs to be complimentary
or to emphasize the colors, the designs of the photo. The coffee shop who bought
this template probably doesn't want people
focusing in on the plants. The focus isn't
about plants at all. It's about the coffee or
the location to this. And it's okay to have graphics
overlapping the photo, but it shouldn't be obscuring
the subject matter. A good tip if you want to see what all your
templates look like together is to go down here
to click on the grid view. And it will show you all your
templates in one screen. If you have a lot of
templates in one file, this is a great
way to see if they all look the same
in terms of color, composition and tone choice. Now with this primary mind, we're going to move on to
our next lesson and look at designing text-based posts.
6. Designing Text-Based Templates: And we looked at how to design Instagram template samples that are based around a photograph. In this one, we're going
to look at how to design templates for text-based posts. Now there are
generally two kinds of text-based posts that you
will find in templates. One are gonna be quote posts and what are going to
be informational posts. These serve different purposes. So quote posts are more
about inspiration, creating a feeling or an
aesthetic for your brand. And informational posts
are there to convey specific information that
could be about products, services, business hours, promotions, or
anything like that. I'm working in the same file on Canvas as I did for the
pictures because it allows me to make sure that all of our images and designs
look good together. We're going to start by
creating a quote post first. To start off, I'm just going
to put a quote in here. And all I did for this was
Google quotes about coffee. Just make sure that
even if you're just using these
as placeholders, you still attributing them correctly to the person
who said the quote, I just added some text
boxes to this graphic. I did that by pressing T on my keyboard and it
just adds a text box. And I typed in the parts of the quote which are
quite small here. But the quote that
I chose is what goes best with a cup of
coffee and other cup, which is by Henry Rollins and I don't know who that
is, but that is okay. The first thing I'm
going to do is choose some fonts to go
with this quote. Generally for large pieces of texts like the quote itself, I want a basic font
that is easy to read. And for smaller things
like this name, I could use a fancier font, but often I will just
use a single font for both and use different
styling for each. I will click on this here and go to the Font menu right here. Again, make sure that these
little crowns indicate a PRO item and you don't want to use those for
your template designs. You want to make sure that
they are available for free. Now you can just scroll
through Canvas library of fonts here it is very large. You can also try
searching for things, styles that you
might want to use. Even though it sounds
kind of corny, I like to switch
for the word funky. Because it brings up a lot of popular aesthetic styles that tend to be very
trendy right now. You can also search
for handwriting or simple or printing. Just play around with
keywords and see what kind of fonts
that suggests. This case, I like this font, but it's a little bit too
busy for the main text. Now as I scroll down, I found this font called
more sugar thin. It's sort of a handwriting
font and I think it suits the five of
the coffee shop that I'm designing this for. So I'm going to go with this. It doesn't have the
crown icon and it is available for
all users to use. One thing to note
about all fonts. Not all fonts have
bold and italics. And right here you
can see these are kind of grayed out right now. That means that I can't use
them in this particular font. If you want to do complicated design styles that
involve those, I would recommend picking
something different. In this case, I think this
is going to work just fine. I'm going to start
by shrinking down this text and making
it a bit larger. I'm going to center
it on the page. This is the person who said it, so I could leave it like this, but I'm going to experiment
and go over here to uppercase and see
if that looks good. I do like it like that. It's a little bit
of differentiation between the quote
and the attribution. And I think this looks nice. Now we have basically
a quote post and in some cases is just a plain white background will be fine. But I'm going to try and
change this up a little bit. First, we can change the color of the background
just by clicking on it and clicking on
this box with the colors. And it will show you
on the document colors that we talked about
in the last video. You can also scroll down to the photo colors and see
these are the creams from that original
paper graphic. In this case, I
probably would pick one of these as background because then it'll tie into the overall color
theme of the piece. Now if I want to keep this graphic simple liquid,
leave it there, or I can go in and grab one of the graphics I already used to kind of tie it all together. I'll take this one
from the first page. I'm going to use
Command C on a Mac, so that's how a copy, but you can use copy on your
computer if using a Windows, I will click on
this third design and then Command V to paste. And there it put it in
the exact same location, which is a little repetitive. So I don't want to do that. I'm going to shrink it down. I'm going to go up to
flip, flip horizontal. A little different. We'll rotate it and put it up in that corner. Now it's just a little
accent graphic that kind of makes this picture a
little more interesting. If I wanted to be really on
the nose with the theme, I could look for a
coffee cup graphic and put it down below. In this case, I've got two
elements have been coffee cup. Again, making sure it's free
and find something that fits in style so far has been
one color per graphic. This mug right here
is one color and I can make it smaller and
put it below or above. I think above might look better. Then I would grab all these
assets and center them again. Then change the color of
this one to suit the theme. I can keep the leaf,
I could remove it. It's really up to your design
I to see what looks best. In this case. I think I'm
going to keep it just for now. That's one way to style
a text-based post. I'm just going to
duplicate this by clicking on the Duplicate
Page button here. And I'm going to remove some of these assets and just show you another style that you
might want to consider. Of course, these are
just for inspiration and it'll be you should
copy my style is exactly for your templates, but these are some
general principles of how to design these things. Let's say we want to
use a pattern here. Canada has lots of
patterns to pick from. So let's go for a leaf pattern. Since that's our theme. I see this leaf pattern
right here is very subtle, but it is very similar to
the colors of our design. So I will click on that. You can see it kind of
blends in really well. I'm going to make it the
size of the whole graphic. This is starting to look
cute, but I generally don't recommend putting text
over a busy background. The way to counter this
is by adding a shape or something to differentiate
from the background. You can find shapes by typing them into the search bar here, you can also shortcut on
your keyboard on Canva by hitting C for
circle or a rectangle. Here's a circle
and the rectangle, I'm gonna go with a circle just to be a little
bit different, but I'm going to make this
the background for our text. I'm just going to
try and center it behind trying to
center it on the page. I'm going to move this
down a little bit. There we go. And this color doesn't
really suit our templates, so you have a lot
of options here. We could go with the
actual background color, which makes the
pattern disappear, or something that's
a bit of an accent. Because this green
was our color theme for the leaf that we keep using. I'm going to pick that
and then I'm going to go into transparency and I'm going to play around
with that to see if there's one that looks best. I think that is not too bad. We have a little hint
of the background through this green circle, but the text is super
legible because it's against a more
opaque background. Those are two different ideas
for how to style quotes. Of course, you can get
more fancy with it. You could do a
whole border around this one here with
different graphics. You can play around
with fonts and colors, sizes, and styles. But another kind of graphic with texts that you
might want to create is something that contains important information
about the business. Let's start with a new page. The background
color of this page automatically set to that
cream color that we've been using because lots of other pages in the
template use it already. Now I'm gonna make up
some business information that we need to
style on this page. Here's the information
that I chose. I made up a hourly schedule of when you can go
to the business. A lot of small
businesses like to post these businesses with physical locations because often they're hours change seasonally. All I've got here
is the information in the font that
we already used, the more sugar thin font. And I'm going to keep
this font throughout our templates because it
looks good consistently. To this end, it becomes
the brand font. I'm going to start
by just dragging this information
and centering it. But we do want to find a way
to make it more exciting. Let's add some
background details and then some graphics
to offset it. I'm going to start with a torn paper search that we did before. Again, I'm making sure
that we are looking only for free items. Now this graphic
here is interesting, but it doesn't look very good against our background color. And because this is a
photograph graphic, it doesn't allow us
to change the colors. However, we can't go into Edit Image and
adjusted like this. If I decrease the saturation, it takes away a lot
of that yellow tone. Now I can work with this graphic because it matches a
little bit better. I'm going to try putting
it in the bottom corner, dragging it up, and then I'm just
going to use it to outline the hours themselves. I'm going to put
business hours up here a little bit
separated like a divider. I've played around a little bit with this graphic and I ended up putting it upside down
and in the background, cutting off about two-thirds
of the way through the page, I'm going to keep the
text overlapping it here and bring business hours
right about there. I think I'd like
something to go behind. It's ours to make it
stand out a little bit. As I scroll down through
the torn paper section, I saw this little green slip that's almost like
a piece of tape. I'm going to grab that and
put it behind business hours. The green is sort
of in the family of the greens we've
been using before, because it's a bit
of a warmer green. That kind of looks
a bit interesting. And then I'll go to
business hours and change that to white font shows up. This is starting to
look pretty cute. I think I'm going to
add in some graphics in the bottom corners
just to kind of tie it together a bit of
a darker color, something green would
probably say, well, I'm going to search for leaf and just see what I can find. I see this little
green leaf right here. It's again just a
single color scheme with our theme for the template. I'm going to make it
a little bit smaller, but I like the color that it is. Placed one there. I'll duplicate it. Make a smaller one beside it. I'm going to flip
it just so that it doesn't look like
it's been cloned. That's a cute way to
present the information of the business hours. Now if I go and take a look at the grid view of my
projects so far, we see that all
these pages do kind of look like they're
from the same project. In fact, you can
drag and drop some in-between example
to put that there. And maybe I'll put
that one over there. And you can see that
this collection actually looks like
they belong together. If these were in an
Instagram theme, you would think that this
business has kind of a style and a vibe that
they've already figured out. That's really what we want to
convey with a template set. Businesses or hobby accounts are going to be using
these to say, Hey, I have great content, but I've also got a clear theme and way that I present
that information. Our job as template
designers is to give the account owners
a vehicle through which to deliver their
information and to help them look professional while
they do it by creating graphics that make
sense together. Now we're going to move on to the next lesson and
look at how to create some templates that use both text and pictures
in the same image.
7. Designing Hybrid Templates: So far we've looked at
how to design tablets that feature an image
and feature text. But now we're going to
look at how to design hybrid pages that
feature both equally. These cases, the
image and the text usually have something
to do with one another, and they're equally important. We're going to try doing
two different styles here. One is going to be putting text directly onto the image itself. And another is going to put the image and texts
side-by-side. So let's start with putting
it on the image itself. I'm going to start
with a picture frame. And we're going to pick
this one because it has a little interesting
corner right here, but it will still
makes the photo be the main part of the picture. The background, of course, is the same cream color we've been using on every other page. Now let's first start
by finding our image. We're going to play
with an example of a topic that this
page could represent, could be a announcement that summer drinks
are now in stock, in which case I'd want to find
a picture of iced coffee. There's a lot of
fun images here to choose from for our sample, but I'm going to just pick the first one because
it does have a lot of the same color tones we've
been working with so far. Now what's good
about this picture in terms of putting text on it? Is there some blank space we can definitely fit words
in here without obscuring the image or
the text being legible. To start, I'm just
going to hit T for text box and
I'm going to type in summer drinks here. I think I'm going to put
this text in this area here. So I'm going to put these together and adjust the
text box a little bit. We could leave it like that. If I had, there is a
bit of an art form to making texts fit in spaces. And of course, you don't
know what actual photo your clients are
gonna be using for this particular page
of the template. So you can only do
your best really, you can't predict
what's gonna be there as a variation on this, I'm going to remove
summer drinks. Just leave are here down below. Make it a little bit
smaller and create a text box that
says summer drinks, just like before I selected it. And I'm gonna do it in
all caps right there. Make it a little bit bigger. And even maybe to play with it is the letters there. It's a little bit
different now, but it feels a bit more like
an announcement. We also have an opportunity here what we're doing by adding
text over this picture, which may very well be changed, is just trying to
give your customer some options as to how they want to style
their own photo. Here it gives them the option of some all caps with
some small caps. We can try mixing it up by adding a different
sized font here. This little phrase can be shrunk down to fit in the space. Then we have another
kind of variation on the text for our
customer to try. Now this little
sliver in the corner does tie into our
colors for the theme, but I'm also going to grab one. It leaves and put it
over here as an offset. It'll add a punch of
color that connects to the rest of our
template designs. Going to pick this light
green leaf right here. It'll copy it. And
then down here, click and paste it. I'm just going to
rotate it so it fits in this corner right here. Now this is a promotional
posts, basically, one of the topics or
themes that you might have picked out for
this niche could be promotional posts about products or new
beverages or snacks. And this is an example of the
text overlaid over a photo. Now I've made a new document
unless try putting the text and the photos side-by-side rather than on top
of each other. I'm going to start
with a frame again. This time going to pick
this sort of angular frame. I'm going to make it like that. Now we have a little
bit of the background there and there for accent. Let's stick with
our same idea of promotion about
the summer drinks. I'll go back to photos and find another ice coffee
for us to work with. In this case, something
horizontal will work best. Let's work with
this photo for now. I'm going to type
in summer drinks. Maybe add the word
new to the beginning. Canada allows us to do a
lot of fun things with fonts by going up to
the Effects tab here, based on this design
I've made so far, there's a drink and the
center of this page, and I'm going to want to
highlight it a little bit. I'm going to try
using the curve tool with this text, which
makes it round. We can scroll down
and we can make it in a perfect
circle like that. I'm going to make
it about that big. So it is pretty circular. Go to change the
font so that it is white and will show up and I'm going to put it over
our little drink here. Could even rotate it, make it a little
bit fun like that. And maybe it would look
better if it was even bigger. Now this is kind of
visually interesting. I find that if you
are putting text over a photo and you wanted to make the contrast
a little higher, you can click on it and go to
effects again and add lift. That's going out of very
faint black shadow behind it, but it doesn't make
the lights pop against other light
background images. You can increase that a
little bit if you want. You can see how that changes
when I move the slider. Alright, I think
that's the layout I'm gonna stick with for now. Down below, I'll add the
critical information. Make something up here. There's a little
blurb we can use. I'll make that font dark so that it shows up against
that section. I will make it smaller and
drag it into the text area. It's important
that you don't put too much text on graphics like this because there's a point at which it becomes
difficult to read. People also have very
short attention spans, so we want to stick
with key information, the tagline, one
or two sentences. In this case, these
are two sentences. Now if again, I want to pull in that green color for this theme, I could add another leaf. I could add other decor items, the page, just by searching
through elements in graphics. Just for simplicity,
I'm going to go up and grab a leaf from one of
the other templates. We haven't re-used this one, so I will copy it, drag it down, and it will paste this
design a little bit big, but let's find a
home for it here. That just adds a
little extra green. There's some green in there
as well to balance out the photo in relation to
the rest of the designs. So let's take a look
at the grid view and see how they
all look together. So far, I think these
look pretty good. You can mix and match
them, drag and drops. And then they all
look like again, they're from the same brand. At this point, I've got six
designs, as I mentioned, I think 12 would be a minimum, but more is generally
better to add more pages. You can make variations of the ones you've already created. For example, you could take this picture and change
up the textile in the background or change it the leaf and rearrange
it a little bit. The thing is you don't
need to reinvent the wheel every time. In fact, it's good to
have some elements that repeat every couple of posts because that becomes
sort of a brand signature. For example, this
frame right here with that little polaroid
border could be something that is a
bit iconic in their feed. So I would reuse
this exact style, maybe every nine pictures, because if you think
about the Instagram grid, you don't want them
to be touching. You don't want the images
that are the same shape or basic design to be showing up one on
top of each other. For example, for these
pictures as I have them here, this would be the picture in
the top left of the grid. This one would be
right below it. And that actually
would be a little bit cluttered because they're
both photo pieces. So I would maybe put that one there and then let
this one be way below it and have another photo in this
position right here. You can worry about these kind
of layout choices and how you organize your templates after you finish
designing everything. But do spend some time here in this grid view swapping things around so that you
don't have to designs that are too similar
close to each other. But these are some basic ideas. Start designing
your templates and I hope they were inspirational. Again, if you need more ideas, go look at Canvas
template library and see what they have to offer. You'll definitely find a lot of inspiration there that you can then derive into your
own original design.
8. Diversify Your Designs: After you've created an awesome
collection of templates, you're probably going
to be feeling a little exhausted from designing. However, it's a
good idea to have more than one listing
in your Etsy store, especially if you're
going to specialize in a specific type of
template or niche, that way your customer
feels like they have some choice and also your
store looks more professional. You can definitely design other collections of templates
that are totally unique and you should do
this as this is what Repeat customers
will be looking for. However, you can also
make a few variations of the templates you just created using different color schemes. These can be sold as separate listings since
they are different from one another and can
give your customers some choice when they're
picking up their templates. Taking a look at the
template collection that we created already, we can make some variations of this with pretty little effort. Just at a glance, two things that we can do to change this, to make a different variation
at the same template is to change the colors and
change the plant graphics. Those are the
significant aspects throughout the collection. In this case, I'll just show you how we can swap this from being green and neutral to being
a pink themed design. Lets hop over into this 1 first, Canva has a feature
called styles, and if you go over to this
option on the left-hand menu, it shows you some
different styles that you can click on and swap all the design aspects in your
a template for this case, I'll click on this
one right here. Maybe we'll try this
and see what it does. It's going to swap everything on this page to be
this color scheme. And it just did one page. But maybe let's
see if we click on all pages, what happens? We see those colors are changed. The fonts change to.
This is a good start. We could definitely
go with this. So let's start from the top. I'm going to delete
all the leaves because that doesn't really fit
with this new pink theme. I'm going to swap them
for flat or drawings. So I'm just going
to go through each one and delete the
little leaf accents. Now on some templates
like this one, there are aspects that
don't adapt to the colors. We're just going to have to
manually change this one. Instead of this burlap, we're going to look for
something pink, pink fabric. And a drag and drop that one
in that pink color is cute. So we're sort of going
with a like a lock and a pink theme for this one. In this case, the paper
actually looks okay, but I am going to switch
it for something white just so the contrast
is a little higher. Here I found this white sort of grid paper that is a kind
of a fun pattern mixing. I'm going to look
for a line art. Flower. This one is nice. We'll put it right
there and let's make it pink like
the background. This is looking cute is
a very different style, but I didn't really
change that many things. Now we just need to swap in the sample photos to find
something that fits better. I just switched for pink
coffee and it brought up a bunch of images it with
coffee that are pink. So it kind of fits
with our theme again. I'll drag and drop that photo
in there. And there we go. When it's done, once we went to the next one, new summer drinks, I want to find
something that looks like a summery drink in pink. There I found a pink one. And I'm just going
to adjust this text, make it a little
bit smaller since the new font is a bit bigger. I can add in another
flat or detail. This case maybe we'll make
it teal to match the photo, but you can really adjust it there. And we'll move down to this one. Again. This one had
flowers along the side so we can drop in
some more flowers. Makes him the colors
we've been working with. So we've got a hot pink. Maybe this flower is well, I changed up the photo again so that one is a full image page. This one, this graphic
right here doesn't change. We're going to define
something that suits. And this is the background white that we changed to be
a little bit cooler toned. Just going to make
it even more so than it looks properly white. Now, this kind of
holographic tape graphic, which suits the
theme pretty well. Now, this doesn't
stand out super well. So we're gonna go to
effects and hit lift becomes a little bit clearer
against that background. And I just swapped
around the colors here a little bit to make it
look a bit better. Now we swapped in an image here and the text doesn't
quite work the same way. So I'm just going to reorient it around the page. Here. I moved around the text a little bit and added some flowers. In this case, I
didn't really have a photo that was pink
that match the text. But by choosing a
really neutral photo, I was able to add the details that bring in the colors scheme. In this post we just have the background that is
not the right color. So we're just going
to delete that and look for a
different pattern. Heart pattern is pretty cute, so we can drag that and fill up the background position
and seductive back. I think having this not
opaque would be best. Maybe we can change the color of the hearts to be the
pink we've been using. Reorient these little bit. There we go. This one's
pretty good to go. If we go look at
the grid view now we have a totally
different vibe. This is, it looks like a
completely different template because you've used different
placeholder images, different little graphic
accents and different colors. But it is still
the same template. I will say I did this
one pretty quickly. You might want to put a
little bit of thought into your design style a little bit. Make sure that you
are creating these as separate files or you could
duplicate your Canva file. So file, make a copy and then you will have
two versions of the same post in your
camera documents. That way you can ensure
you aren't editing a template that is being
sold somewhere else. Make sure you change the name
as well when you do this. And it's just that
easy to create variations on templates
that you create. So it's worth spending
the time making your original
template collection because you can make
many variations of it. You didn't even
have to do a coffee shop one again, for this one, you could add, try and target a different theme altogether. Now that we've looked
at how to do this, we're gonna move on to the
next lesson and look at creating the deliverable
PDF for your customer.
9. Create Your Deliverable File: Once you have your
templates ready to sell, you're going to need to
create a document that your customers will receive
upon purchase on Etsy. This document will contain the link to your
Canvas template. This is a great opportunity
to build your brand and invite your customers
to follow you on social media as well. Let's take a look at an example
of how you might format this deliverable PDF to make your deliverable
PDF in camera, I like to use the report
size or an A4 document. You can find that by
searching for it. In this case, I
have it right here, so I'm going to click
on Create blank. This is the size of a
basic piece of paper. So we're going to work
with this to provide the link for our
template that we sold. Now the way that you
design this is going to be based around
your brand style. So if you have your Etsy
store already set up, you might have a theme or a logo that
you're working with, in which case use the
colors from that. If there's any
graphic elements that are related to it,
you can add those in. I'm going to make it
very, very simple just so that we can move through this process
a little bit quickly. Now in this case,
there's actually some templates right
here that I can use. Now I can use these because I'm not selling the template itself. I'm just telling a flat PDF. So in this case it's okay
to use Canvas templates. They have this
cute one with some paper textures and some grids. So I'm going to
go with this one. Now if you have a store logo, I'd recommend
putting it somewhere at the top to begin with. I don't have one for the sample, so I'm just going
to make a circle and just pretend that
this is our logo. There are different that big, I will make it a blue color to match that bottom
blue just for accent. And we'll just put
it right there. So the pretend that's
your store logo. Going to zoom in a little bit. This is how I structure
these pages myself. Now you can be creative with it, do whatever makes sense for you. And also if there's instructions that
you want to include, this is the document
you would do that in. You might want to
add a second page that says frequently asked questions and answer them there or how do I
access this template? There definitely
are people who get confused by Canada templates. They are not the
majority certainly, but you may want to preemptively give them
some instructions, but for now we're
just going to focus on the page with
the access link. I'm going to hit T
for text box and I'm going to type in
the first phrase here, which usually is
something like this. Put thank you for your
purchase of with three dots at the end and make it
a little bit bigger and put it right
here below the logo. I'm just going to
pick a font that we can use as our brand font. Maybe we'll use
libri Baskerville. I put this here
because basically what we are doing is
creating a template as well that you are going
to reuse every time you create a new
listing on Etsy. So below this we're going to
put the name of the product. So coffee shop Instagram
template bundle is the name of my product. I'm going to highlight
all of that. I'm going to bold it and
make it a little bit bigger. I'm going to put it right there. Now every time I reuse this, I would change this phrase right here and I can leave
everything else the same. Another textbox and out a
little bit of instruction text. So there's a little bit
of instructions and just added which say to
access your template, click on the button below. It will open a Canada
in your web browser and prompt you to add the template
to your accounts library. So just some very
simple instructions. And we'll shrink that. It fits within this white
box here and put that there. Now we're going to
create a button here that's going
to have our link. So I'm going to go into
elements and I'm just going to search for a button. And it gives you lots of
graphic options here. Now I didn't find any options I liked in the buttons section, but I'm going to go to
a rectangle instead. And I'll just click on
irregular rectangle going align it up and just make something that is sort of the shape
of a button you might click on a web browser. I will change it to
be the brand colors. Let's pick this brown here. This is going to become our big button with the link here. We're going to add some
texts that just says, click here to access template. Going to highlight it all, make it bold and maybe I'll make it small caps, all caps as well. Now in order to make this
actually go to your template, you need the link for it. I'm going to go back over to our other document right here. This is our templates
that we created. I'm going to go to Share. Then I'll click on link sharing on and go down to
publish as a template. And there's two links
is going to give you here the first one, lot of people see
the design but not edit it and we do
not want this one. We want the template
link sign-in required. And anyone with this link can use this design
as a template. So I'm going to copy that URL, go back over to
our other design. Click on this text, and then I'm going to go there
to find the link button. Then I will just paste it
right there and hit enter. And it has an underlying
under it now, so now we know that this
button is going to be clickable and it will go
to the template we wanted. After that, you can add
whatever you want here. I like to add a
thank you note and say if you have any questions, reach out to me via
Etsy, happy to help. And then you can
include an offer like, if you like this,
join my newsletter. Here's a link to it. If you do that, you get a free template or
wherever your offer is. You can also add buttons
for your social media. I'm going to populate
some of that in here just to show you
what it could look like, but you can have free range
and do whatever you like. Here's what I added. I added the text. I really appreciate your
order and I'm here to help if you have any
questions or concerns, please feel free
to reach out via Etsy and I'll respond
as soon as possible. I added the phrase
shop owner name. I chose a cursive font for this just so it looks a little
more personalized. And then put the name
of the shop down below. I created a little box. I just use an offset white, cream color here that
has a newsletter offer, including a link as
to where to click and an offer and what they'll get as little freebie for doing so. And then I added the logos for some social media accounts. You can get those
just by going into the search box and typing in the brand name
we're looking for. And usually you'll find
the graphic for the logo. To make these links,
it's the same as texts. You just click on them, click
on the link box right here, and then you'll type
in your profile URL or whatever site you're
trying to direct them to. Now a zoom out and
you can see that this page looks
kind of complete. Of course I don't
have real branding, but it will look a little
bit better with a real logo. You can add your
store name up here, whatever information
you want to. But this is the basics of a
deliverable PDF that will help your customer
access the template and then connect with
you in other ways. To finish off, you would want to save this as something along lines of template access
link information, something along those lines, because this is
what the filename is going to be
when your customer buys it off with Etsy and you don't want
them to think like, Oh, I got the wrong thing
or something's missing. You often to know that this is the link to access
your template. All you have to do
now is download it. So I will click on this
and I recommend picking PDF Standard just so that the links are clickable as
long because it's a PDF, but the PDF print is a bit of a big file and you
don't need to give them a big file for any reason. When I download this. Just gonna wait a second for happen and I'll show
you how it looks. This is our finished
PDF I'll exported. And you can see
here is the link. And when I click on it and just to show you what customers see, they go to this page basically, and it says a template was
created by Your Name, me, you'll shared with you start
designing now and they conflict through it to see the different pages
in the template, tells them the size and then
they click Use template, it saves it to their account. So they are not going to be editing the one that
belongs in your account. They're gonna be making a copy
onto their Canada account. And they can reuse
that link if they want to make another
copy in the future. But generally they
just do it once. That's the basics on how to
create your deliverable PDF. And as I said, if
you want to add additional pages
with this document, with instructions or tips or anything else you
want to include. You're more than welcome to
do that for your customer.
10. Pricing Strategies: You have a lot of flexibility as to how you price
your templates. You'll find templates
with different numbers of designs at wildly different
price points on Etsy, I would recommend creating moderately sized collections for around ten to $20 depending
on how complex they are. Remember that you can sell these templates as many
times as you want. I can take advantage of
things like sales and NC ads. Once you have a few template
listings up on Etsy, you can group them
together into bundles. Bundles are tremendously
popular and customers loved the savings that they
get by purchasing them. Bundles should be
significantly discounted. Look at your competitors to
see how they are pricing individual templates versus
bundled collections. In my store, I sell
smaller theme bundles and then one mega bundle with all the templates from my store. This mega bundle is actually
what I sell more than any other product I offer because it has a very
high perceived value. Remember that you can change the price of your
listing at any time. Don't be afraid to
play around with different prices to see
what customers respond to. Now we have reached
the end of the course, and I hope it's been
helpful in guiding your creative design business if you want to learn
more about Etsy for me, my other course called build a successful digital
product shop on Etsy has lessons on
setting up your listings, writing product
descriptions, creating listing images for digital
products and more. You might find it helpful if you're still
learning the ropes of Etsy and digital
products in general, as for our class project, I'd like you to create
one template for Instagram that you'd be willing
to share with the class. It can either be a photo post, a textbook IT or a hybrid post. Just like we discussed. Pick a niche that
you want to target and designed it with
your customer in mind. If you share an image
of your template, I'd be happy to provide
feedback if you'd like. And if you've
enjoyed this course, please consider
leaving a review. I read them all and I really
appreciate your feedback. I wish you the best of luck with your creative
projects and thanks again for joining
me for this class. Happy creating.
