1. Introduction: Hi. My name is Sonya, and I love all things creative. I have many different projects that I work on. And I decided that I wanted to keep it in a digital planner this year instead of a physical one. In this course, I will show you how to create your very own digital planner that you can use for yourself. Or you can sell. Give it away to a friend or family member. In the course, we will create our base. We will create digital papers, tabs and a monthly layout that will link to weekly layouts. Feel free to change your colors, your fonts, your layouts. I do look forward to seeing what you have in the end. Thank you.
2. Master Template and Planner Base: me today in creating a digital planner. Ah, Today in this course, we're going to concentrate on making our planner base. So we want to go ahead and open up. Keynote. We want to choose a new document. We want Toe, go ahead and click on this white background presentation and choose. We're gonna make it maximize that screen. And one thing to note about Keynote is there two different things. Four slides. You have your master template slide which is used for everything that's in a template. Everything that's gonna be the same. That doesn't change that you can reuse. And then there are your slides for presentation, which those slides can be changed. Like when we change the days of the month, the days of the week. We want those things to be on our presentation slides. But for our master templates like this is where we want our background. Our background is always going to remain the same. The white paper digital paper will remain the same. We will put that on a master template slide. So let's start out by creating our base which will be on the master template slide and by so what? We'll do First is world coming here will click at it Master Slide and we'll start off by getting rid of this title Text in the rest of the text underneath by holding down our Mel ski right here. Well, up a little bit higher at the top. Let's say will hold down the mouse key and we'll just drag it down so that we're getting all of this text here. We're gonna let go. Everything is selected on the keyboard. We're gonna go ahead and hit delete. In order for us to get rid of thes guidelines, what we need to do is come up to the view menu, come down to guides hide guides. Great. So now what we want to dio is we want to get rid of these slides over here. You can leave them if you'd like. I like to get rid of them cause I like to start with everything clean, have a clean slate. So what you can do to get rid of these, you have to select it, right? Click and deletes. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to get rid of thes slides in bulk. So you just have to really do them one at a time. The one slide that you do want to leave is this last slide at the bottom that says Blank. We do want to keep that, and we'll use that later on. So now that we finally going to the last slide, we're going to come up here and select the slide that says Title and subtitle. So now what I like to do with my planners. I like to make it full size and full size for me. I have an iPad Pro 12.9, and I like for my whole screen to be off my planner. I've seen planners with other people where they'll have like, ah, desk look with a coffee cup in a succulent on the side, and that's just not for me. I just like to have my pages be just the planner. I don't need to see the extra things on the side. As I said, I'd like to see things that are very clean, Although those are cute. I just It's not for me. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna customize my slide so that it's very large, and I'm gonna come over here to document and here you'll see this slide size, and it has this drop down. We're going to use the drop down and go to custom slide size. After a lot of trial and error, I've found that 3700 whiff in points by 2200 points in with is a good size for me. So that's what we'll be working with today. But feel free, Teoh, change your plane or size. Or if you'd like to have that desk look with other things on the dusk, you know, feel free, were all we can all have something different. If you'd like to follow along, you can do that as well and you can still follow along and add those other pieces as well. So first we're gonna start out by going to a shape, and we're gonna choose the square. This square is going to have a texture to it, which the texture is gonna be kind of like that planner um book. Look, I'll say so we chose the square and we're gonna come and we're gonna make this square pretty much the size off this slide that we just customized. So what I want to do is I want to go to format. I want to go toe a range and there's a size here. I'm gonna change this size to be 36 180 points by 21 80 and we're gonna choose Enter on the keyboard and what we'll do is we'll hold down the mouse over the square and we'll just bring it up into place. Keynote will help you out by using thes lines to let you know that you're in the center and the middle off the slide. If you find that you're not able to line it up and yours is a little bit over here and you have too much of the bottom and too much on the side, what you can do, click your mouse appear at the top above the shape and the slide and dragged down. You'll see that box there. That means that your selected both the slide and this blue rectangle. So now you're gonna let go of your mouse and you're gonna come over here to this a line drop down and you're gonna first select center that will bring you over to the middle perfect middle of this slide and that center of this slide. Excuse me, and then you're going to come down to middle, and it will put you right in the middle. So now your slides are perfectly lined up. Well, let's put a texture over our plane blue box here to make on a plane or base look a little more interesting. So what I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna do a Google search for H deep blue leather texture. Um, and we're gonna in HD stands for high definition. We're gonna go to images and you will see the sizes on these boxes. As you mouse over, you'll see 5 75 by 400. This one's gonna be smaller for 50 by 4 50 What you want to do is find an image that you find interesting, and that is big enough. I want to look for something that is not too bright and not too dark. Let's go with this one right here. OK? It's 10 24 by 7 68 That should work. Okay. And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna right click and say open Lincoln the window. The reason why I opened the link in a new window is because if we were to say from here a lot of the times, you'll get a smaller image than the size that it says. So I like toe open my link in a new window. So let's go to that new window now. What we're gonna do is we're going to right click, and we're going to say Save image as when we do this will get the dialog box right now minus set to desktop. Yours may be sent to something else. It's fine as long as you can find it. Ah, the name that comes with this image. I'm fine with that. I'm just going to say save, See that it's saving. It's done. I'm just gonna go ahead and close this Google window. So now let's go to Finder and we're gonna go to the location off our image, which was desktop. And this is the image we downloaded. This teal something another And this part right here this step is very important. What you want to do is click hold down your mouse key and drag the image over to the slide . Why this is important is because this image we're gonna mask it so we're basically gonna put it right in that box and just cut it perfect to size. So now that we've dropped it in, I'm gonna maximize this screen so you can see better. And I'm gonna come and I'm gonna zoom this down a little bit so we can see everything. So it's gonna be two ways for you to ah, make this image bigger. We can click here on image that will select image, and you can use this slider to make the image bigger. And it kind of depends on where you dragged and dropped it, whether it would go over the entire thing. Um, and also you can use thes handles. You can use these handles and just to drag the whole thing down, what you want to do is make sure that the entire texture goes over the slide. When you do that, you can click done it cuts it right into that blue box that we had, and we're good. Now what if you decide? Uh, I really don't like this texture. That's not really what I was going for. I have not found a better way to get rid of the texture other than doing a command Z on the keyboard or coming up here to the menu and goto edit and undo mask so you could do either one. And you would want to do that until you got back to the blue box. So once you get back to the blue box now you can redo this process. You can go to Google and find another image. You can find an image that you already have on your machine that you think would look better. I'm gonna go ahead, grab another texture that I like better than that last one. I'm going to take it and I'm gonna drag it in. There's that plus again with the image name. I'm going to drop it. We're going to get rid of this dialog box on. We're already zoomed out. This time I'll use the slider. So there we have it. Like how that piece is kind of dark there in the corner and we're just gonna click down and there you have it. Now we have our planner base. It has a texture attached. And next, What will be working on is adding our digital paper to our planner base
3. Digital Paper: Welcome to the next part of this course. We will be adding our digital paper to start. Let's go up here. Toe are shape and we're going to choose. The square puts that square right in the middle. Well, we want to do is make sure we're on the format tab. If it's if you have nothing, you're gonna click here where it says format. You get this panel that comes out, you want to choose a range here, you'll see a size. We're gonna go ahead and type in our size as 33 50 by 1989 points high click, enter on the keyboard in. We can just move this. We don't have to move it into place at this time. But what we're gonna do is we're gonna go make sure that this is selected. Go to the style tab and change of the film two white. We're going to repeat these steps again by going to the shape tool clicking on a square. We're gonna go to a range. We're gonna change the size of this second paper to 3 to 90 wide and 1989 points high. Click. Enter on the keyboard. So now we have two of the shapes one's white and one's blue. With the blue page selected, we're gonna come over here to style. We want to come down to where it says shadow. We're gonna come to the drop down. We're going to choose. Drop Shadow is what we're doing here is we're gonna have a book style Look where it looks like two pages or on top of each other, and it has a line in the middle. So the what I'm gonna do is type in 39 for the Blur. I want my offset to be three points, and I want my opacity to be 57%. You can use thes up and down arrows, or you can just go in here and type as you'd like the angle. I want to be 0.1, because I've done this before. I have the values in here, but you can type them or you can use these arrows for this. You can use the dial and move it around, or you can come here and put 0.1. All right, so it's kind of tough to see because the pages of blue, but we're going to take care of that in a second. What I want you to do first is I want you to come up here and click your mouse above the slides, come down and drag your two papers. The slide won't move or do anything because we already locked that into place. But what we want to do is online these two papers. So we're gonna come toe a line center, a line middle with the two things are still selected. We're gonna hold down the mouse and we're gonna move it. Now. You see that line there? That's our guideline to tell us that we are at that middle section of the paper. The second guide comes up to tell us that we're right in the center of the slide with these two pieces of paper, and we're just gonna let it go. You can click anywhere above the slides, and we're gonna just choose the blue paper again. We're gonna come to the Phil. We're gonna make that white. Now, do you click away and we come in a little bit. You can see on the edges. We have that shadows. So it kind of looks like this. Papers on top of that one. Now we're gonna take go back to the shape to cause we're gonna put a line in the middle of this page so it looks like it's a book or planners use me how we're gonna take that line tool. It puts it here in the middle. We're gonna take the handle. We're just gonna drag it up to the top. You'll see the guidelines come up to try to help you identify the middle. But we don't have to worry about that for now. So we're gonna drag it up to the top of the page, will get that handle from the bottom, and we'll drag it down. And we just want to make sure we're getting to the top in the bottom of the page. You can with your line selected. You see it there. It has a handle at the top and a handle at the bottom. You can click and just drag it to the left or right, and you'll get those guidelines that come up to say up here in the middle. So now what we want to dio is we want to change this line color to be, um, more on the gray side. So let's with the line selected will go to style, and we will use this Icahn here that has the colors on it. And what we want to do is we wanna use the pencil and all this is is these are different colors. You can come in here. You can put in a hex code. You can move the sliders to say, Were you what color you want it to be and you'll see the color here, change it. Also changes are line color cause it was already selected. You can use the wheel so that you can take it and change your colors. This way. Ah, you can use thes swatches here. You can even use this dragon around to find your color. But we're going to use the pencil, and we're gonna take I see Let's go with Mercury. I think that's good. And the pencils work the same way you choose a pencil. It changes the color. But let's select Mercury, and we're gonna close out of this. And now we're gonna use the drop shadow once again. So here we have shadow. We're gonna use drop shadow this time we're gonna change the blur to 19. The offset to 10 the opacity. We're gonna make it a little barker at 80% And the angle of the blur We want to be 60 degrees and we're gonna hit Enter and there you have it. It has Ah, we're book. Look, our digital page Look. And if you're like if you see here, I'm a little above and over here I'm a little short will select the line and we'll just use the down arrow to nudge it down. No, you haven't. No thinking. Notched it down a little bit too much with budget back up. No. Okay, that works. That works out much better. So there you have it. We've gotten through our base with added our digital pages and I will see you in the next course in the next lesson where we will start on our tabs and our tabs will be used to get us from month to month
4. Right Side Monthly Tabs: our base and our paper in the previous two classes. We're gonna move on to our tabs. These tabs will be used to change our planner from months two months. So let's get started. One thing that I wanted to note if you see this blue band here with the done button here in the right place, if you are seeing this without the blue band and this edit master slide on the side, you are in the wrong place. You want to always make sure you are in edit Master slide when we're creating our master side. So let's go ahead and quick on shape. We want this rounded rectangle here over to size. We want to change the height toe 174 If you have chosen to create a different planner size than we are making in this class, that's fine. Continue on and at the end, I'll show you how to make the adjustments. So let's go to text. Move the text away from the tab. Click once and type D. E. C. 4 December Uh, right now let's double click in here. I'm going to leave my fart at Helvetica, just a default font for Mac OS. And but you can change your form, toe, whatever for it you'd like. Scripted for in a fancy fun. I'm gonna come here and change this to regular. And I want this to be about 55 points. Just type that in hit. Enter now with this still selected vocal to arrange to have and I want to rotate. Add a to seven in front because we want it to be 270 degrees. Ah, your text should still be selected. I'm gonna hold down. Shift mouse click Once on the tab back on the arranged have come to a line. I want to align center. Ah, line middle and group. We want to keep Make sure these two things travel with each other, so we're gonna group them. All right, let's move the tab over here and let's zoom in Suman about 150 and just smooth over. I just want you to see up close where we are. We want to be at the very bottom of the back page and the very top of that top page. All right, that's looking good. So far. So now what we're gonna do is we are going to hold down the shift key, and we're gonna tab to the left once and all that's doing is that's making our tab slightly below this top page, and it'll make sense a little bit later. But once we add all of our tabs, we're gonna send it behind this top page eso you don't see the edge of, um, this tab and it will be between these two pages. So let's go ahead. And we're gonna copy the December tab and make a November tab. Um, and the reason why I wanted to mention that I put this December tab towards the bottom is because keynote works in layers and I want December to be my bottom most layer. Later on, we're gonna move the tabs and they'll be sitting on top of each other in a sense, just like you would see in a normal planner. So let's go ahead. We can a right click copy, right click paste. We want to drag this second tab right above. So it's just just just touching the first have. And if you see keynote has put that yellow line there to let us know that it's perfectly aligned in the middle. We're gonna go ahead. I am double mouse click two times in order to get to the text. And I we want to change this to November. So N O V. Here we go. Just click on the texture in the back toe, insulate the tab, and we're going to do that again. And you always want to copy and paste the last tab. Because, as I mentioned before, it's were working in layers. And I want this November layer to be above December. So now you can also use your keyboard to copy and pay. So select the tab. Command C Command V copy and Paste. We're gonna drag that tab. The guideline is there again to show us that we're right in the center. And we just wanted to just touch the top of that tab, and we're gonna double, click, double click on the text and type in O C. T. 4 October and we're going to continue doing that. All of those steps Copy, paste moving in place. DoubleClick, DoubleClick change the month. I'm going to speed up the video while I do this, and I'll meet you at the end. - All right. So after you have all of your tabs from December all the way up to January, you'll notice that, um, might have is above ah, where I want it to be. And this is the part where I said if you have a different planner size, see your tabs, they're going to be a little different, but that's OK. Um, we're gonna fix that right now, so let's do that. Let's select all of the's tabs were gonna come above our base and just drag down. Additionally, or alternately, you could just select them one at a time. But just to be faster, I will just come above and drag down, and we want to click on the texture because we wanna uninsulated the texture because we dragged down from the top. It also selects the texture, and we don't want it to do that so we can go ahead and hit here. You should be on the arranged have we're gonna send backwards. Send backwards and you'll see that the tabs just moved behind this first page. You can double check to make sure that your tabs air in between by just moving January out of the way you'll still see that your bottom page is so basically you're tabs are between the two pages. So we're going to command Z so that January goes back to where it waas. Now, let's do that thing where I said we're going to make the tabs just the right size. So let's go ahead and select all of these again. Except for November. We don't want Amick. Sorry, Except for December. We just want January to November and what we're gonna do is we're gonna hold down the shift key. We're gonna go down Arrow one. The reason why I'm doing this is because we want the tab to slightly be over the tab underneath it. So with shift key selected, we're gonna uninsulated November down key Click on October toe unsolicited with your shift key still pressed, Click down arrow, Click down arrow, Click Down Arrow, Click Down Arrow. And we'll continue that until we get to January. Now that we have that, we'll see that there's a small space here that we want to get rid of. We are going to come above our base, hold our mouse key down and drag all the way from the January tab straight through to December. If you accidentally also grabbed your pages, let's say you came over a little too far and you'll see the handles for the pages have been selected. What you'll do is hold down your shift key. Press the top paper, press your mouse for the bottom paper. Now they're unspool acted and all you have left are your tabs. Now what we're gonna do is we are going to group all the tabs together. We're going to come up here to the top handle and we want to drag until we get to the very top. The guide will come on toe, let you know you're exactly in the center and exactly at the top of your pages. With the tab still selected, we're going to ungh group. So now all of our tabs are individuals were going toe ungroomed one more time and this will on group the tab from the text. Now you see, you have a lot more handles here and that's because it's showing you that the text and the tabs are separate. You can now select them. They're ungroomed. We are going to go through an unsolicited just the text by clicking on the text. So January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December. So now all we have selected are our tabs. And what we're gonna do is we're gonna come here to style. We want to add a drop. Shadow the settings that you want, our blur. Five points are offset. Two points opacity, 82% in our angle. We want to 89 degrees hit, enter. And if you go ahead and just click up here above our base, you'll see that we now have tabs that are a little bit over the one below it. It has a little line to show us. So now it's not just one big blue blob of tabs. We actually have some line separation, and that's because of the drop shadow. Next, in our next lesson, we're gonna go ahead and give thes tabs some color. Ah, so that would just give it some more of interesting look. So I hope you've been a sticking with me, and we're gonna move ahead to the next lesson. See you soon.
5. Monthly Calendar Layout: we are definitely making progress and our Polina is coming along. If you are still with me from the last lesson, you will be in your master template slide mode. You will see the blue banner at the bottom of the done button. And I want you to take note that we have to templates here the master template which we created, which is on the screen and the blank template. We're gonna go ahead and click Done. If you're just jumping into the lesson, you should already be in this place. If you click on ads slide, you will see the two slides that we just left our master template, which we created together and a blank. If we were to go ahead and click on master template, it will add this. Tempt this slide based on our template as slide number two. If we were to choose Blank, it would go ahead ad that blank template as our slide number three. The reason why I wanted to start with the calendar is so that you can really get to know the difference between the template and the slide. The reason why I chose to put our calendar on a slide and not the template is because we're going to reuse our master template for our calendar pages for our weekly pages. In order to do that, we're gonna put the calendar on a slide. So let's go ahead and get started. You want to start off by clicking on this table icon here. I like to go with this ah, particular table because of the lines, the borders that it comes with. When you first come in, you may start here. You just have to click on the Blue Arrow. Click this one. You can actually choose any one of the calendars that you'd like. It does not have to be this one, so let's just go ahead and click it right now. The table is selected. You'd know it selected because it has thes extra icons and rose appear with the letters. This icon is used to move the calendar. This icon here is used to add more rows, this one to add more. Holum seems right, so let's go ahead by keeping that selected coming over to sell, and I want to change my fill color toe white. I want the entire table to be white Now this has 12345 I want there to be six rows. So, as I said before, this icon is usedto add or remove Rose. So there I just removed arose. We have four, but I want to go up five and six. So with this table still selected, I'm gonna click this skinny area here to select my entire row. Use the drop down. I wanna add hetero above. I want to use that Dropped down again fit height to content That's gonna make our hetero smaller. This is where our days of the week are gonna be, Right? So you're hetero should still be selected. We want to come over to ah, Phil and give it a color up Going to choose one of the colors that we created earlier. So this is looking good. Get rid of this. Now what the table selected, we're gonna use this handle here and just drag it over to the left side of our planner. And same thing with this if you click once it collects, um, selects the whole table, will move it over, will take this handle and drag it over. We don't. We wanted to be able even on each side, not crossing over our middle page reference here. And with this table selected, I'm going to copy command, See and command V to Pace. We're gonna use this icon. Move it over. You'll see that keynote was gonna help you with the guides. We want to use this icon here because we want to remove one of the rows. So we want there to be three rows and again we're gonna use the handle. Actually, you can use the handle here if you want to eyeball it to see if you can get the size the same as the cells. But we can also double click in a cell, come here to table. It says that my cell is to 69 by 3 94 You want to commit that to memory to 69 by 3 94 I'm gonna come on the right side of the calendar. Double click. This is to 69 by 402 So we wanted to be a little bit smaller. So with this selected, we're gonna hold down shift, come to this very bottom cell on the far right click once. And here we're just gonna change this to 394 hit return That will make all of the's cells to 69 by 3 94 which is exactly what it is on the left. All right, so I'm going to start off my calendar with Sunday. So this is gonna be Sunday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. If you prefer a Monday, you can do that. If you don't want to include the weekends, you would just click once. Used these icons to get rid of the columns. You could do one on this side, one on that side, however you'd like to do it. All right, so let's get started with coloring. The other thing that I want to do is I'm just gonna color my columns, my weekend columns just to make them different from my week day columns. So up here, I'm gonna click once that selects the entire column. Actually, I don't want to do that. I take that back, I'm going to choose my top cell by double clicking. Hold my shift key down, come down to the very last row, click once. That will only select these roles and leave my header, as is because I've already changed color. You want to come over here to the cell tab and we want to change this fill color, and I'll use one of my lighter colors. I'm going to do the same thing over here on the right. I'm gonna select my top cell. Come hold down shift, choose the bottom cell, choose the same color. That's not the same color. It was this one over here. All right, so let's get rid of the colors and let's start adding in our days of the week, if you double click on the top header, just start typing. I'm just gonna type Sunday and I don't like this far, so I'm gonna come up to text. I have a font. Cold architects, daughter. This is something that I don't loaded from. I believe it was font squirrel. But if you're going to sell this calendar, you want to make sure that you're using commercial fonts that you can use in resale. If this is your personal planner, you can use any fault you'd like. So I Oh, excuse me. I should have double clicked on the day of the week. I apologize. So again, we're going to go to the text tab. Come here to font shoes. Architects, daughter. I do want to make some slight changes. I want my fart to be about. I actually think I'll leave it at that size for now, but I want it to be bold. I wanted to be centered. I wanted to be in the middle off the cell. I do want to make a change where I just wanted to be all uppercase. So I'm going to come here to this gear settings type icon and capitalization. I'm going to see all caps. Yeah, I do think that is a little big on the farm, So let's try something like 41. That's a little small. So let's go with a 61. At the end of the day, I think, How cool with 51. That's gonna be the size that I want to go with their and we're just gonna with this day of the week selected again, we can save this style so that we don't have to go through this process again, will come up here towards his table style. Your number may be different. Use the drop down click on the plus We're just gonna in here type header. All right, so now there's our header style. So let's double click in the next cell, and we're gonna write Monday, change our style to header, and it will change it to the style that we just created. We're gonna do Tuesday, Friday, Saturday. All right. Now that we have all the days of the week Fear, I'm gonna go ahead and double click on Tuesday to select that sell. Hold down shift click on Wednesday. Come over here. Header. Same thing for Thursday. Double click to select. Hold down shift. Click. Friday, Saturday Header. Great. Now we're done. We're basically done with our calendar. And at this point, I wouldn't put numbers here in the calendar. Just so it's for easier reuse. I would more do that when I'm in good notes. I would add my days, um, to this calendar, and that's just my preference. You can go ahead and add the days If you'd like, you'd have to go look up a calendar used text. Put your numbers wherever you'd like them to go. You can do it this way. You can put a circle, you can add a square however, you'd like you customize this calendar to be the best way that you want it to be. So now here is a step that we're going to do that we're going to use a little bit at it. Now let's fill up this space that we have here on the right. I'm gonna go ahead and choose to put in a notes Field sweats, click on text, bring our text up. Will change this to say notes Ha ha! If I spelt it right, we want to go to the shape tool, Choose online, move our line over here who would just take those handles and just drag them over. You probably could go a little bit closer to the calendar is just so we can get, ah, a little bit bigger. No field. I want to change the color of this, though I don't want it to be so harsh. I want the point. Size to be pretty small will give it to Let's choose a gray color and notes Guess oak ahead and change that to the same header font. But we had that header font is white so we can come here and change that text color back to black. But just so that it got Ah, that architects daughter for the ah farm that we're using. So with this line selected here, I want to do command, see, to copy command of eat, paste and move my line down. You don't really have to worry about the alignment too much. I'm more worried about the distance in the the lines. So now we're gonna select both copy paste. Oh, accidentally, um, un selected one of them. So copy paste again. Drag it down. Gonna let keynote help me with the distance which you'll see that it comes up there and then we're going to continue and copy and paste until we get to the bottom and I will go ahead and speed that up. Now that we're down to the bottom, I'm going to hold my mask You down dragged all the way up to get all the lines in the text for notes I want to come to my arranged tab. I want to, ah, line center that centers all of the lines and the notes field. I'm gonna uninsulated just the notes by shift clicking on notes Your lines should still be selected I'm just going to bring it up so that my bottom line lines up with the bottom of my calendar. So there you have it. You have a notes. Feel that you can write some quick notes in. We have our calendar. It's split off on two pages, and that is gonna be it for now. When we come back, we will go through and create a weekly layout.
6. Weekly Layout: Now that we have our calendar on our slide that we created in our last lesson, we're gonna move ahead and work on our weekly layout. If you have another master template here, that's great. If you do not, you're gonna go up here to add slide and choose master template. When you do that, you'll have this new blank master template, which is what we're gonna use for our weekly layout. Let's start by adding the text tool. We want to do this seven times. We want one for each day of the week. You can just continue to add the text tool. Or you could also choose to select holding down the shift, clicking three more and doing Command C Command V to Paste. Now that we have all of these here, we're going to go ahead and change them for the days of the week. Is gonna click once I'm going to start with Sunday because that's what I used eyes. My start date in my calendar. If you chose Monday, you would start with Monday. If you didn't do weekends, you'd only have five of thes text boxes and not seven, and I'm just gonna go ahead and speed this up while I put in the rest of the days of the week. Now that we have the days of the week done, I want to hold down, shift, select each day of the week on our text tab. I'm going to change this to architect's daughter, which I used in the previous lesson on the calendar. Remember, if you are going to sell this, you will need to use a commercial font so that you do not get in any trouble. If you're using this for personal use, you can use whatever font you'd like. I want to bring this down to about 60 points. I want to come to this settings gear icon for advanced options. I want US character spacing of 7%. What that will do is just put some more spacing around the letters and for capitalization. I want it to be all caps. Here we go, right, So now let's just de select by holding down shift and clicking on Saturday, Friday and Thursday that will leave the other four days selected. I want to come up here to arrange. I want to rotate them 90 degrees, click any were toe, insulate them and let's just start moving them into place. Just gonna move it to the very top in side of the page right now. We're just gonna eyeball it to stay. Looks well, uh, name just gonna hold down, shift and come down a few times holding the down arrow. I do that about six times and this is all just estimation. Really? Right now, I'm gonna hold down Shift in. Select Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday with shift still held down. I'm gonna arrow key to the rights. Twice ought to do it. Ah, we want to click anywhere to de select those days, hold down a shift key and click on Thursday. Friday, Saturday. We should still be on this arranged tab, and I want to rotate 270 degrees de select. Take Thursday. Now, when you move Thursday, you'll see keynote will guide you those in that middle area. They're letting you know that those air lined up and it's not lined up like the, um, end of Sunday to Thursday. It's just in the middle of the two we're going to go with Friday, try to get that same alignment with Monday here. We go on and Saturday. Get that alignment with Tuesday. And now let's go to the shape tool here and we want to choose line. I want to move this handle up between Sunday and Monday. The second side of the handle we just wanted to be straight and keynote was letting me know that it's in the middle there. It's good. With that line selected, I want to go to the style tab. I want it to be about eight points and for the line style, we're going to choose the dots rights. Let's come and see. While this started line is selected. Come to copy and command V to Paste. Let's move that line down. Keynote was letting me know I'm in between Tuesday and Monday, and the long line between the two dots is just showing me that it's lined up. The dotted lines are lined up again. We want to copy paste, move that lying down. And now, with the this one Linus selected, we're going to go ahead and hold down shift to select the other two. We're gonna copy and pace and move those lines over to the right hand side. Here we go. Keynote was coming up and letting us know that's things are aligned, and that's good. Now with this extra space at the bottom, actually, I want to move these down just a bit. I'm just gonna select them, holding down shift and with my down arrow, just come down. Once I think for this empty space, what I'll do is create a goals box. So let's go to the shape to choose a square on. Let's make it the size of the area here, and we're just gonna eyeball that, really come up a little bit with the box selected. Come over to the color Phil. Let's give it a color. We I will go with one of the colors that we selected for the side tabs, just so we're matching here. You could also use your dropper tool and just select each any of the colors. It's close this back to the text tool. I'm going to type in by clicking one's goals. Change this to architects daughter to match the rest of the text, which just decided not to do for me. So I double clicked. Choose architects, daughter once again make this about 50 points. Come here to this icon. Once again, I'm gonna character space it about 10 and do all caps and hit. Enter, Let's move goals down to the box area. And as our last thing back to the text tool, it can stay where it is. Click once, and I'm gonna type week one. This will help us when we move forward. Toe link the weeks to the monthly calendar for January. January has five weeks. So what we will do is we will duplicate this weekly layout. Four more times will have a total of five. We're going to right click here. Duplicate. Come over to the box, Click Once Change Week one to week two, right. Click on week to duplicate. Come to the text box. Click once changed this two week three And we will continue to do this until we have five weeks. If this was one of the months that had six weeks, we would duplicate one more time for 1/6 week. All right, now we have our monthly layout from our last lesson. We have week, one week, two week, three week four and weak five for our weekly layouts. Next up, we're gonna work on linking our weekly layouts to our monthly layout. See you in the next lesson.
7. Link Weekly to Monthly Layout: with our weekly layouts now created in our monthly layout created in the last lesson. Let's go ahead and link these two together. What we want is that when we go to and click on any of thes days in a week, it goes to the correct weekly layout. Let's start by making this our January calendar gonna click up here on the text, make it January. I'm gonna go with clicking on the text tab and making this blackjack. Not really sure where I got this font from because I have so many funds. But you do again. Want to make sure that if you're selling this to make sure you're using a commercial font going to go ahead and make this about 158 points and move it over now we're gonna create the actual links. So let's use the shape tool Shoes square. We're gonna bring the square up, drag the handles down so that it fits within the box, but we don't want it to go over the bordered lines. Let's while it selected command. See to copy command V to Paste, move it over to the right hand side. You can also use your arrows to nudge over. Used the handle. Bring it over while this is selected. Hold on your shift key and press on the left hand side command. See to copy command V to Paste and let's bring it down. And we're going to continue with that copy and paste until we get to the bottom. All right, now that we have that in place, that is great. We are going to click anywhere toe uninsulated. We're going to click on our top two rectangles, holding down the shift key, right click ad link slide. We want a link to a slide, and we want a link to slide number two. What this is going to do is when we click any days of thes weeks, it will go to slide number two, which is Week one. We're going to continue doing this until the end. Hold down shift, click, click, right click, ad link slide slide again. This time we want slide number three. A slide number three is weak, too. Let's continue with that until we get to the end. All right, so we made it to the end and you'll notice that each time you added a link. You got these This blue circle with the arrow and that just means that Ah, these shapes are linked. Any time you see this, it means that there is a link there. I want to now show you that he's actually work by clicking on the play button. And if we choose any one of these weeks, it should go to the proper week. This should go to Week three, which it does to get out of here. We're gonna press on the escape key on the keyboard. We can try it again. Go back up to the monthly calendar. Press play. Let's do the right side Week one. There you go. Week one, press escape. All right now, we don't want our calendar to come up with these blue boxes, so let's get rid of them by just holding down shift and clicking on each of the boxes. We're going to come over to style and shoes under Phil. No film. Click away. You do see this faint gray boxes there, but if we click on play, you'll see there are no boxes. All right, so that's good Now. Next, we're going to create a year's worth off the month and weekly slides. You do want to take into account that May and August for 2020 does have six weeks, you moving forward, you will just have to reference a calendar to see how much what months have. How many weeks. So with this month appear selected. Let's hold down, shift and click on slide number six, which is week five and we're going to right click copy and then right click paste. Once you pace the slides, it will give us another set of six slides were gonna click on the month. We're gonna change this to February. One thing to note about Kino. It will update our links accordingly. So this will be slide eight now thin 9 10 and so forth. You want to make sure next to click on the very last week right click paste. This will give us another six slides. The's six slides will be for March. We're going to click on the month, Go to the text, change the name of the month, check our links once again. This should be 14 15 16 17 18 and we are up to 18 slides. Okay, so we're going to continue to do this. Choose your last slide paste change the month I'm gonna come back when we get to May. Because for May, it's a six week month. Okay, now we're on May We changed the name. We added the checked our links. It's looking good, but may we need a new additional week. So let's go ahead. Select Week five. Right click duplicate. Change the text. Two week six Excuse me. Week six. Go back to the month Now We want to add another week here, so we're gonna click on the table, come to the icon at a week, do the same on the right click once the icon at a week. Now I realize that it has all of the's borders. It can get very confusing. What we want to do here is hold down the shift key and click within the box each any of the boxes, Just the box. Stay away from the lines when we have all of these selected will come to style and change it to a color. I'm choosing blue. You can choose whatever color you'd like Come to the arranged Tabb group with keynote. You're not able to move the handles. In order to resize, you have to group at first. So we're grouping it. Were moving it up one row by using the handles will come up to the top. And again, we want to make sure that our borders are not touching. If they are weaken, just nudge it up a little bit. And the reason why I want to stay within the borders is because you want to make sure that these rectangles are not touching each other. If they're touching the links kind of get confused. So now, on this arranged tab, we want to on group click away. So everything is de selected. Come down to the very last two rectangles, Select them using the shift key Command, see Copy command V to pace and dragged down to the last row. Now we want to update these links by clicking on the link. We want to go to slide 31. Same thing on the right. Slide. 31 slide. 31 is weak. Six. All right, let's test this by pressing on play. We're going to click say week three. All right. Week three, press escape to get out, go back to the month press play Click on the last week to check on it. Week six. All right. The last thing we want to do is get rid of the blue boxes and make them invisible. Let's hold down shift, click each one of thes boxes come to style tab, color film. No, Phil. All right. If you want to make sure double check that you don't have any lines You could always press play no lines press escape to get out. Let's get back to finishing off the rest of our months. The easiest thing for us to do since the last thing we copied Waas the last row is to come back up to January because we want that five week layout. We're gonna select January Hold down shift click on Week five, which is slide six and right click. Copy. Come all the way back down. Click on weeks six of May, right click paste. Change this to June. Check on our links. We're looking for 33 through 37. All right? And we're going to continue to do that. We're gonna click on the last slide of June Week five. Right Click paste changed January to July check on our links. Should be 39 through 43. Looks good. Now we're again at a six week month for August. So we've already done this work. We're gonna scroll back up until he find May, which is right here. We're gonna hold down shift, copy the seven slides May. And it's six weeks. Right. Click copy. Come down to the last five weeks. Slide in July, Right Click paste as we've already done this work. So we're gonna change me. So August, check on our links. We should have 45 through 50 again. We're going to go back to January because that's our five week slide. You could actually choose any of the five weeks slides. I'm just going to go up to the top because it's quick. I don't have to try to look through these little text to see which one has five weeks. Hold down. Shift click on the Week five slide. Which slide? Number six. Right click copy scroll. All the way down. Click on weeks, six for August, right click paste. And we're going to do this for all the rest of the months until we get to December. Yes, we made it through December. I realized this is a lot of slides. We now have 74 slides, and this can get really confusing. I hope that the order that we took this in was not confusing. And you have your 74 slides and they're linked. We're making great progress. We are almost done. Next, we're going toe work on back in our master template. We're going to go and make it so that when you click on a tab for January, you get to the January calendar, and underneath that you get the January slides. When you're Excuse me, your January weekly slides. When you're on your January weekly side, you will also see that you were on the January tab. This is all coming together. I hope you've been sticking with me. I hope this has been very helpful for you, and I'll see you in the next lesson.
8. Link Right Side Monthly Tabs: Now that we have our weekly slides linked to our monthly slide, we're gonna go ahead and start working on our master template. If you go to the projects in a resource is section on skill shears website, not the APP. The APP doesn't allow you to see this. In order to see the document, you will need to be on the website on the projects and resource is you'll see a document called Slide Number Helper. If you've been following along with me from the beginning, you should have 74 slides and thes numbers coincide with the correct slides. The first thing that we want to do is click on Edit Master Slide. If you do not see that button and you see this blue banner at the bottom, you're already in the right place. Let's start off by coming to zoom, zooming in at about 75% moving the planter over until we see the tabs. We're going to click on the text, hold down shift, click on the tab, right click ad link slide. We want it to link to a slide. We want it to be slide number one. If you choose gold to slide, you'll see that it's linked correctly. It's linked to January January ISS Slide number one to go back to the master slide The master template slide Click on Edit Master Slide. Come back to the zoom, 75% move over and you'll see that we have two of those circles with the arrows indicating that we have links here. One link is on the text. One lick is on the tab. It's best that you link both, and you want to make sure that nothing is grouped. If it's groups, it won't work properly. At least that's been my experience. So again, we're going to click on February. Hold down shift, click on the tab, right click Add link slide. We want a link to a slide slide number, and you can type it in. Or you can use the drop down slide Number seven. Go to slide to see if we're right. We're correct. It's going to February. Go back to the master template by clicking on this button, and we're gonna continue this until we get to the very end. - There we have it. We made it to the bottom, and we have all of our links. If you've already tested your link by testing that go to slide, we're good. If you've made any mistakes, you can always click on the circle and that same dialogue will pop up. You can change your numbers if you need to. For our next step, we are going to create a home page.
9. Create a Home Page: Well, we're still here in our master template mode, which you can tell by having this blue band at the bottom. We're gonna go ahead and create Ah, home page. I want you to take your mouse and click down from the top above the planner, Come over the entire planner so that you're also selecting these tabs. Back in our previous lessons, we had locked this background, which you can slightly see. Some great exes. That means it's walked on the arranged. Have we want to choose? Unlock. That is just gonna unlock that background. You won't down. See that we have the white handles as opposed to the grey exes we're going to right, click and copy. We're going to click done because we do not want to create a home page template because we're not going to reuse this again. This is kind of a one time deal, so we don't need a template. We want to scroll up to January. If you're not already there, Choose add slide. We want the blank slide. The blank slide gets added at slide to we want to hold down our mouse key and drag it up to be slide one in this blank slide area we're going to right, click and paste. You should get everything that was in your master slide and this is perfect. Now we're going to click above. We're gonna take click on just this top page, drag it over to the midline, do the same thing with the back page. Click once used the handles drag over. So the midline. Now, let's just add a little bit of text. We're going to hit the text, move it for this text. I'm going to stick with blackjack, going to make it about 200 points and you can type anything here. I'm just gonna type my planner hit Return blue return in the wrong place at the end. Return 2020. Yeah, I'm fine with that. And if you will now go to your lengths and click. You'll see that your links have been updated automatically. And January is now on slide to previously. It was gone. Slide one it would. So now all of your links should be shifted down. One we can press play to check on everything. If you click February, we should get February, march and so on. We're gonna hit escape. And there you have it. Now we have a home page. In the next lesson, we're gonna work on the tabs some more.
10. Left Side Monthly Tabs: now that we have our home page created. Let's get back to our master template. Let's click on Edit Master Slide, Select our master template. I want to first start off by selecting a shape so that we can get to our home page at any time. No matter where we are in our planner, I'm going to do that by clicking on shape. There are many categories here that you can choose from. I'm gonna go ahead and shoes on star. You could also bring in an image and use an image if you'd like. That, will work out fine. But just four times sake And just to use what keynote gives us, I'm gonna use a star. Come over to style, change the fill color toe white. I want a right click Add link slide. I want to go to slight number one. We can click on go to slide to make sure we're going to the right place, which we are. You'll notice there's no star here because we didn't add it here. We added it to the template, which the template is on all of the other slides. January It's weeklies all the way through December and it's weeklies. So you will always get the star all right because it's part of the template. We can test fat link by clicking on play from any of the slides. I just happened to be on January, so I'm going to leave it there. Click on your star. You get to your home page. You can click on any of the tabs, click on the star, you get to the home page. Let's go ahead and press on escape on the keyboard. Now we want to get back to our master template. So let's go ahead and click. Edit Master Slide Once again, choose the Master Slide. Now what we're gonna do is duplicate our tabs. The reason why we want to duplicate thes tabs is so that each time we click on the tab, it will move from the right over to the left. All right, let's start off by locking down the things that we don't want to move. We're gonna come above drag almost down, select the star, the backgrounds, the paper and the mid point. All right. And click on lock. You'll notice that you start to see these great exes like little stitching And that just means that these things are locked down and they won't move again. We're going to come above hold our mouse key down drag and select all of our tabs in our text. I'm going to command. See to copy Command V to paste. Click on this arranged hat. I want to group to group all of the tabs and text together just to make it easier to see and move. Move those tabs all the way to the left hand side. Keynote will show you the guides to let you know that you're lined up. Hold down your shift key and press on your right arrow key once. And that's because we for the next step, I want thes tabs to appear behind the page. Now let's click here on a range backward. We're going to click on backward until those tabs move behind the paper. It has You can If you've clicked it one too many times, you can just bring it forward. Bring it backward again. Now we're gonna UN group. So we're gonna ungroomed the tabs. They were already selected, so that's great. Come to zoom, 75% move down toe our tab so you can see exactly what happened there right now. The tabs air upside down the text anyways, so I flipped it horizontal and I flipped it vertical. See There, it just flipped it so that the text is the way that I want it to be than a line I wanna aligned a line left so that the text moves closer to the top of the tab. Great. Now what we are going to do is quick anywhere because I wanna uninsulated everything. This little piece can be a little tedious, and you don't really have to do it. It's just for aesthetic, right? I'm going to click on the February text, hold down my shift key, hold down my February tab, and I'm gonna use on this arranged tab forward because I want the tab to come ahead of the January time. I want it to be over, because if this were a physical planner and we moved January January would be at the very bottom. Then when we moved February, February would be on top of January and March would be on top of February, so I just want the aesthetic of it toe look the way that it would in a physical planner. So now I'm gonna click on March. Hold down shift, click the march tab, use forward to bring march forward. It's now over February. That's what I want. Do the same thing for April. Click on the name of the month, Hold down shift, click on the tab. Come over here to forward and you just going to click it one at a time until it comes over the next month. And we're going to continue to do that until we get to December. All right, we are done with that. So now December is over. November, November's over October, October's over September in so one, Um, and the reason why you have to do that is because Kino works in layers. So when you create these things, they are just on different levels or different layers, and what you're doing by moving things forward is moving those layers. Although you don't see them, keynote doesn't even give you access to them. But if you work in other programs like photo shop or illustrator, they work in layers and keynote does as well. It just doesn't show it to you. At least I haven't seen where it will show me what layer I'm on. So if yours looks like this, that's great. If you're having a little bit of difficulty, you may just need to continue toe klik down on forward until that tab moves to where you want it to be. Let's move on to selecting all of our tabs. We want to make sure we're getting just the tab and not the text. So it's best if you click into the very, very corners off the tab. But sometimes that doesn't work, and you'll get the text like I have here. If this happens to you, you just click on the text one more time and that will de select it. This congest a little tricky sometimes, and if it's possible, you can just zoom in a little bit more so you can get closer. And this may help a bit if this happens to you as well. We've selected just the tabs, but I want the style tab in the style tab is not there. All that simply means is that one of these locked assets we have are also selected, even though they're locked. So holding down the shift key. You can click on the background, and they're now the style tap pops up. I've had trouble in the past and could not figure this out. I mean to me, if something is locked its locked, it shouldn't be able to be selected. And that may be a bug with Kino. But if that happens to you, where you're not getting those panels that you expect and you do have some things that are locked on the screen, just click on those locked things to see if that's possibly what's causing the issue. So now I want to go to the style tab under shadow. I want to you come down to rotate. I want rotate to be 100 and 30 degrees. I want to make sure that I have five points for the Blur, two points for the offset and 82% opacity. Click enter. And what that did was that changed our shadow from where it waas when the tabs were on top to where they are now, so that you can see them with it in reverse, with February being on top of January instead of January and its top of February, and so one like we have on the other side and veer, you have it. We are done with duplicating our tabs. Next, we're gonna work on creating our monthly tabbed master template so that when you click on any of the months, you get the correct tabs for those months and I will see you in the next lesson.
11. Monthly Master Templates: in the last lesson we duplicated our tabs were we did that so that we could start making our monthly tab templates. Let's get started doing that. First, we want to make sure we see this blue band at the bottom. Now we want to duplicate this master template 12 times, one for each month duplicate. And you can just duplicate whatever's, um, highlight. It can duplicate any of them cause they're exactly the same. With our 12 master templates now duplicated, I want to go ahead and name renamed them. We're going to double click Rename One for each month going to continue to do this until we get to the end. Now that we've renamed one for each of the months on the right hand side of this master template this January, Master template, we are going to highlight and delete January. So one tab from the right on the left hand side. We Onley want January. So we're gonna delete both tab in text from December all the way up to February. So we're deleting 11 tabs and their text pressing delete on the keyboard. Now for February. We want to delete January and February. I'm gonna hold my mouse key down Dragged down to January and February Making sure I select both the tab and the text press delete on my keyboard So we deleted two on the right and we Onley want to on the left. So we're gonna delete Tabin text from December through March Delete on the keyboard So if you delete two on the right, you only want to one the left Let's do it one more time together for march I want us to delete January, February and March from the right Selecting both the tab in the text We're gonna hold the mouse key down, drag down January, February March Delete on the keyboard Now on the left I only want January, February and March so I'm gonna hold on my mouse key drag up through April because I only want three tabs on the left Click Delete. You're going to continue to do this for each slide until you get to December. If you're having a hard time seeing the text, don't forget you can zoom in 4 December, you're going to delete the entire side of right tabs. You can always go back. Teach one to make sure that you've done it correctly. There have been times that I have Mess this up. See, You can just go back and just make sure that you did this right. Like August, August should be on the left and not on the right. So we just go back, delete July and then August. Okay. Next, we are going to work on finalizing our master templates for each one of the months and attaching them to the correct slides, See when the next lesson.
12. Attach the Monthly Master Templates: we are now in the final stretch. This is going to be our final lesson, and our planner is almost done. Let's start off by clicking on done to get out of our master template mode and into our presentation slide mode. If you click on January, hold down your shift key and click on each of the January weekly layouts. I want you to come over here where it says Change master. Click on that once, and you'll see that we now have many more templates in here to choose from. For these January layouts, we want to choose the January master. You will see on the left side of the planner pages that we're looking at that the tabs will change. There we go now. When you click on January, it will open to the month of January, and each one of the slides will have that January tab. Let's go ahead and click on play. Once you click on play, you can click on your weeks. You can click back to the month, click any of the weeks it will go to the weekly slide. You click on January. It will go back to the month of January. Next, what we're going to do is click on each of our weekly slides and just get rid of our helper text by clicking on it. Clicking delete on the keyboard, Click on the text, delete on the keyboard. Great. Now let's go to February. We're gonna highlight February Kulik on each one of the weeks for February. Come to change, Master. We want to change it to February. We now just have the two tabs on the left. We can test it out by pressing on play, clicking on a week back to the month. Click on a week back to the month. Now we can actually choose January because that's linked. Do the same thing now our helper text is gone. Click back on January. If you click on anything from March to December, it will look different because that is still linked to our original master template. Let's click on Escape on the keyboard, and we're going to continue to do this until we've done it for all of the months. We want to make sure you go to the weekly layout. Highlight the helper taxed press delete on the keyboard. Make sure you do this for each and every slide. Then we're gonna go to March, highlight the weekly layouts under March, holding down the shift key change, Master, we're going to change it to the March Master. We have our January through March. Tabs on the left again. If we were to press play, we'll see that these are now linked can click back. Everything on the right is linked, so those will work correctly, but your slides on the right just remember, are not linked yet, so those will not work correctly. You can click on your star tickle to your home page and let's just go ahead. Impress escape. Don't forget to click on your weekly slides and get rid of that helper text. And then you will continue to link these master monthly templates, starting with April clicking on your weekly slides, holding down shift changing to master for April linking those and continue to do this until you get to December. That took some time, but we are finally done. Let's press play to check our work. Check our links. Start with the January will click on February from the right click on any of our weeks, make sure that it looks good. Suspect may when you click on May June should be back over here on the rights. And remember now the reason why we did these monthly tabs is so that just like in a physical planner, if you have these tabs and you were to flip over toe August, August would come over to your left, you'd still have September through December on the right. That was the only reason why we did thes monthly tabs and have thes monthly master templates. Anything you put within these slides and if it belongs to a month, you can add it to these months. Ah, let's just that yes, that works. It's just test around and it looks good. We can press escape on the keyboard. Thank you so much for sticking with me through the end. I tried to break thes lessons up into smaller pieces so that you could go back if you needed to and just consume the information in smaller pieces. I realize there are a couple of the videos that were very long, but I didn't want to break them up into a part one in part two. But I tried to break thes up in what I thought would make the most sense. So I hope that you enjoyed it.
