1. Brush Pen: From Warm Up To Sumi-e: Have you ever been afraid of the white paper? Oh my God. Yes. I know the feeling. In this class. I'm going to teach you how to warm up and loosen up the hands, the mind, and the body. So you can go to your final piece. You can do it on a sketch book, on a piece of paper anywhere, anytime. Also, those exercises can also be a final piece because they are techniques for the Samir, a Japanese art technique. So pick your materials, follow me and let's play. 2. Warm Up: Parallel Lines, Pressure, Types of Brush Pen: So yeah, let's rewind a little bit. We've all been scared of blank paper, but we can do some exercises that allows us to loosen up the hands, the mind, and the body. With this, we can start working on our final piece and have a final piece from those exercises. It's because what I'm teaching here are some strokes and movements with the brush pen. Then we'll end up in a smear and orient toward technique. Follow along to know what I'm talking about. The brush pen is practical because you can use it anywhere. They also have different weights and strokes and lines. It's ready to go, easy to carry. And it will help you with that whitepaper fear. It will get your mind going and your body flowing. There are essentially three types of brush pen. The disposable, the refillable, and the pen that normally takes water for the watercolor. But you can use with black liquid in India ink. The size of the brush is to taste. For the purpose of this class, any kind of brush pen will do. We will begin to practice the type of lines we can make with the brush pen. Meanwhile, practicing those parallel lines, It's all about the pressure you put on your hand, pen and paper. Hold the brush pen light as if you don't want to hurt it, let it flow. The pressure goes from your body to the paper. You don't need to squeeze the pen. That amount of pressure will give you a thin line or a thicker one. Go for parallel lines with the same pressure from beginning to end. Don't worry about speed, although it brings different results as well. As many lines as you can. Believe me, it's like therapy or meditation. All our focus will be on the pressure and the movement of your hand. And it will allow you to be present, mindful and relaxed. Repeat as many lines as you want for as long as you feel like. Then go on with a parallel line, only this time with different pressure from beginning to end. Start light. And then with pressure. Not change, it started with pressure. And then light. No mix it. Light, light, light thick. Change directions. Bring the lens to you. Then draw the line from U2 somewhere. Play with it. You will notice that lots of variations are possible. And if you discover a very good one, please leave it on the comments of the class. I will be very happy to hear from you and learn it too. Now that we've worked with a tip of the brush, Let's turn the brush pen and work with it sideways. Like this. This will give us much thicker lines in addition to being fluid, which gives us contrast. And by the way, this will give us the body of the tree of the Samir. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Now. Go ahead and keep going. Use the tip of the pen and use it sideways. Let your head be light and precise. The overthink. Don't think at all. Just like flow and flow with it. Once you feel ready, move to a final piece and structured day. If you will, go to the next class and see how those exercises in lines can become a Sunni and a final piece of its own. 3. Sumi-e: From Warm Up to a Piece of Art: First of all, what is so mean? It's delicate and precise. Usually made in rice paper with black ink and a calligraphy brush. The ink is the solvent, water. To give you a contrast and light effects. It's simple, beautiful, and strong. No room for mistakes. You embrace whatever it is that you put on the paper. To start the body of the bamboo tree. Use the brush pen sideways. Remember it gives you a flood stroke. Any thicker one? Leave a space between one and another. Do it three or five? It depends on the size of your drawing. Now, let's go to the branches, which are some simple straight thin lines. Speed matters here, but do it commonly gently. Between each part, the bamboo has some nods that we can draw, like we're drawing a late S. Then use the pressure that we practice to make the lips. The end of the leaf is a fast movement. So we can have is most spike on the cheap. One clue here is that the leaves of the bamboo tree are always facing down. So find a movement with the leaves. Almost falling. Bamboo trees are delicate and service. You're so mean. Gently hold the brush pen and yet with precise movement, this will also give you more confidence from now on. If it feels too hard in the beginning, don't give up. Take a step back. Go to the previous class, do a lot more loose exercises, and then try again and again. Take a closer look on how we build the Soviet. I really hope you've enjoyed this class and thank you for being here. If you have any doubts, feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing your service techniques and some Yay. Thank you and see you in the next class.
