1. Introduction: Welcome to the studying
for beginners class. My name is Norma jewelry, the founder of harmonic talks, a media company which
helps engineers and entrepreneurs improve their
communication skills. One part of communication skills is that you never stop learning. You got to keep on learning and learning and learn so bored. But this isn't anything bad. This is something that is
empowering. In this era. It is easier than ever to
become a modern-day polymath. A polymath who becomes smart by pursuing
your own interests, your own passion projects, and your own legacy. You don't have to just study because other people
are making you. Instead, you have a certain
framework that you can follow to learn any
subject that you desire. In this beginner's class, you're going to learn more
about what is studying, how to personalize information
towards your life, how to apply the information. Along with the
final project that will allow you to choose a certain field that has been
capturing your curiosity. You can finally study it. Are you ready and excited
to become smarter? If so, I look forward
to seeing you inside.
2. What is Studying?: The typical definition of
studying is so freaking boring. Whenever you pick your studying. What's one of the first things
that comes into your mind? I don't know about
for you, but for me, what used to come to my mind was this one guy that
was trying his best not to fall asleep
as he was going through a bunch of notes
and memorizing formulas. That is a lifeless definition
of this elegant word. Studying equals creating
networks in the mind. If you don't understand
what networks is, think about spider webs. What do you think of when
you think spider webs? For me personally, I see interconnections that
are being formed. Likewise, with knowledge,
you're going to learn about a whole bunch of different subjects
throughout your lifetime. You don't only
study as a student, you study for life. As you're learning about these different
subjects over time, what's going to happen is that these disparate subjects are certainly starting to decline. As you naturally see, it's interconnections starts
to happen with the mind is that it no longer sees
everything as separate. Instead, it starts to perceive the hidden unity
among the disparity. And that's exactly
what it means to create networks in the mind, or creates spider
webs in the mind. Isn't this a way more
empowering definition of the phrase studying? For me? It sure is.
3. Studying Lifestyle: When we're thinking of studying, we may think of occasions. Yes, I'm going to study for this particular occasion because I have an exam coming up. Yes. I'm going to study for this
occasion because I need to pass this particular
test for work. Or I just needed to study
because I have a book coming up and I need
to get into mode. Otherwise I won't
have anything to say. This is a faulty mindset because when we're viewing
studying as networks, we should instead always
be in learning mode. So in this situation, learning is no
longer an occasion. Instead, it is a lifestyle. That's it. That's all we have to do. A view learning as a lifestyle. But to view it as a lifestyle, we got to change our thinking
to a certain extent. We have to identify what it
means to be a smart person. If you're like a
lot of people that follow what society say, you may think a
person is smart if they have a degree
or some credentials. Granted. If you have a degree
or some credentials, that makes you smarter. But is that smart? Now, quite a person is truly smart when they understand
that they are dumb. Wait, wait, wait. That's a contradictory
definition. How can someone be smart
and dumb at the same time? It true smart person understands that a network
is never complete. You keep on building
it and building it and building it more for life. Therefore, the smart
person understands that they're never going to
have all the information. Yet. They're going to set
that as the goal anyways, because their brain likes
these sort of challenges, even though all the information can never fully be obtained. We're setting that goal to learn all the
information out there. And that's how we
hack the brain. Understand a smart
person is always learning and a smart person does not view studying
in occasions, you will have to study because
I have an exam coming up. Instead. They view studying in the same breath that
they view eating.
4. General Feel: How should imagine that you're
dating coach for a second. Your duty is to get this
person who hasn't been on a date in 15 years
back in the game. You want this person
eventually to get married from your advice. What are you gonna do? If you're like most
dating coaches out there, I'm going to tell you
what you won't do. You won't tell this person. It's come Ricky, By the way, to get married to
the first person that he goes on a date width, let's say he doesn't even
resonate with her like that. Are you going to say whatever
it was married, this girl? No. Instead, what you may
encourage them to do is get a general gist
of what you want. I mean, you haven't been
on a date and 15 years, how well do you know what
your dream person is like? Go on a few dates, get a general feel and you'll start to understand
what you don't want. By understanding
what you don't want, it starts to bring awareness
to what you do want. And you may be like, what does all this have to do it studying. It has a lot to do with it
because we're studying. One thing that we don't
want to do is find one resource and just
go all the way in. This is a poor way to study. Instead, what we want to do is get a very general sort of feel. If someone is saying, Yo bro, You got to learn how
to make a pizza. I'm going to first
learn about pizza, just a general scope of it. I'm not going to go exactly
into the recipes yet. I'm going to understand how different people are
making their pizzas. Is there a certain pattern? Am I constantly hearing the same concepts
over and over again? So those concepts must
be the fundamentals. If it's the fundamentals, then when I am getting more and more specific
into the field, that's when I understand what
to exactly look out for. The bottom line of this
section is to get more of a general field before committing to the
subject the entire way. In the next video, I'm going to share
how to do that.
5. Funnels and Flywheels: Studying is a lot like a funnel and a flywheel
for the funnel, the way that it
works is that it's sharks are very wide
at the beginning, and then slowly and slowly it
gets more and more narrow. Likewise with our studying, we're going to start
off very wide. We're going to be consuming from anyone and everyone
in the field. Let's say you're trying to study more about personal finance. In the beginning stages, you're going to get recommendations from
all of your friends, all of your family
members whom you respect. Of course, you're going
to be going on Google. You're going to
just be absorbing yourself in this
particular universe. The beginning stages, you don't
know what you don't know. A person may be giving you
complete garbage advice. But we're wide right now. We're exposing yourself
to everything. The more and more that we
are narrowing it down, the more that we are
becoming fluent in the language that this
particular field uses. Assets, Liabilities. I'm hearing that a lot. This must be important. The more and more narrower
that we're getting, the more that we are starting
to zone in on the people that we admire and we're starting to study
their concepts more. That doesn't mean
that we completely ignored the people
that we don't admire. Because a lot of the times, the people that we
don't admire delivering information to us that we
desperately need to here. However, we are following
this formula of going wide, exposing ourselves to
multiple different sources, learning more and getting
more and more narrow to zone in on which personal
philosophy works for us. This is the funnel section. Now a flywheel. The way that a flywheel works is the outputs are fed
back into the inputs. Once we have entered
the narrow stage, we now start back off wide. This is how networks
are being created, where we feel as
though we understand a whole bunch about
personal finance. And then suddenly we now enter
the territory of business, which further gives us a dimensional understanding
into personal finance. And once again, restart the
funnel from wide to narrow. This is how the formula for wide to narrow works,
which is funnels. And this is how the output is redirected back
into an input. The funnels work.
6. Personalize the Info: We're not in the
business of learning just for the sake of learning, for memorizing formulas, knowing a whole bunch of random facts. We've got to make sure
that we're learning with ourselves, leading the way. Information that is
not personalized is equivalent to information
which is eventually forgotten. You may know it for
some time. Sure. But in the long run, you lose. Therefore, anytime that
we're learning information, we got to find a way
to personalize it. To give you an example. When I was getting very curious
about personal finance, I was recommended a book which most people
are recommended, that's called rich
dad, poor dad. I had a bad relationship with this book because I read it, I would say four or five years ago before I
ever started a business. And I thought it was too vague. I felt like the guy
was telling way too many stories and
I didn't like that. But the most recent time
that I was reading it, I recall where he
has this phrase called minding
your own business, which pretty much means
that you're creating, collecting, or
acquiring more assets. As you're breaking that down, I was wondering, how can
I exactly personalize it? That's when I saw it with
the Armani talks brand. I'm building blogs,
YouTube videos, podcasts, classes, et cetera, which were serving as my assets that eventually
generate cash flow. The minute that I did that
whole personalization trick, That's when the
concept became alive. This is when I stopped viewing just a letters
that he was giving me, just a word, just his stories. That's when I started
to understand the information and understand why so many people were
recommending rushed at Poor Dad. This is personally for me, whatever you're studying,
aim to personalize it. Because the more that
you personalize it, the more that you use it.
7. Confusion is Good: I said he'd confusion. Nowadays. I love it. Back in the days I used to view confusion as doing
something wrong. Nowadays, our view
confusion as pre curiosity. As you're studying,
there's gonna be plenty of times when
you are confused, you feel as though that you're so close to understanding it. And then suddenly a big brick
wall has been introduced. What do you do then?
Earlier, we said that we were creating networks
otherwise known as spider webs. What we do at this
point is a note hop. Let's say you're over here learning about personal finance. And there's a certain phrase that you understand
the definition to. But you don't necessarily
understand what it means. You can't necessarily
personalize the information. What do you do then? You analyze this confusion. What is your confusion
telling you? You don't want to be
judgmental at this point. You don't want to be like, I'll come on man, this
is an idiotic confusion. You want to be very open-minded. And this is where the
Internet comes in handy. It doesn't matter how silly
you think your question is. There is information out there
for this particular item. Let's say your question is, what's really the difference between assets and liabilities? For a season? Personal finance individual? That question is ridiculous. Before you. A person who is studying, who is facing the confusion. This is your
opportunity to humble yourself and to learn more
about this confusion. This is when you are picking
a node hop from here to understanding the difference between assets and liabilities. Once you understand more, you may be confused
about another topic that makes you enter
a different note. As you're hopping around. Eventually, I guarantee you, you're going to come back to the initial spot that
you left off from. This is how the world
of faith and the world of intellect merge. When you're happy
from node to node, understanding that
you will eventually end up exactly where
you need to be. Leveraged. Confusion. Geniuses are formed from not
stopping due to confusion, but using confusion
as pre curiosity.
8. Notes: Yay or Nay?: Notes, yay or nay. This is gonna be a
very polarizing topic, but I believe that you should
not use notes too much. If you have some notes,
that's one thing. But I believe when you use
too many notes is similar to a public speaker who's
spending a whole bunch of time reading off
their index cards. It does not allow
you to exercise your memory. Want
to know something. Your memory is limitless, you could learn forever. However, some of the people will never understand
this because they're too busy taking notes and
using them as a crutch. Here's my philosophy
in regards to notes. It's fine and doses, but never become reliant on it. Assume this. If all my notes were to
burn apart tomorrow. Well, I still understand this
material. Learn like that. Because when you
learn like that, that's when you awaken the
intelligence within the body. When you're aiming to personalize a lot of the information that
you are learning. What happens is that when you are happy from node to node, creating the networks
in the mind, your body starts with
virtue on which topics are important and which ones are not that important
for the time being. If we can keep leading
with the body, keep using the intelligence that curiosity that we
are feeling physically. That's when we understand
that notes are helpful, but it is not the only
thing that is required. Therefore, the final
conclusion that I'm making is that
those are not bad. But take notes as though even if they were to burn
apart tomorrow, you will still be good.
9. Dwelling: When you dwell on people,
you're getting anxiety. When you dwell on concepts, you create a genius. Pick your studying
sort of like this, is you collecting a whole
bunch of wet cement. And whenever you dwell on the material that you
have been studying on, that's when you allow
the cement to dry. How exactly do dwell? Very simple. You just pick the subject
that you want to dwell on. You start a timer, and then you let your mind free. What's going to
happen with your mind is that it's going to start exploring this
particular subject from multiple different angles. And a lot of times your
mind is going to go to certain places that you
weren't initially expecting. Whenever you see yourself going way beyond the subject
that you assign, you want to gently
bring it back. Let's keep this
personal finance, the topic going even further. Let's say I say
personal finance. I set the timer for 15 minutes. Now all I'm going to do is
sit back and relax and allow my mind to float around the
topic of personal finance. Automatically, I'm going to start recalling a whole bunch of information that I learned
regarding cashflow, regarding the different
books that I'm reading, regarding how different authors despise one another's
philosophies. I'm just letting my
mind go wherever it's going within this domain. Anytime it's going outside, I gently bring it back. I just keep doing this
over and over again. And once I'm done, I feel like I understand
this material much better because I've allowed
the wet cement to dry. The more that you
keep doing this, the more the next section is
going to seem much easier.
10. Applying information: Studying all day
doesn't mean much. What you eventually
need to do is you need to either
teach the content. You need to apply the content, or you need to create
content on the content. All three of these can
be done simultaneously. Thus far, we've been using personal finance as an example. Well, what I can
do is apply it on my own business and
my own personal life. Eventually, I can teach my
information to other people. And eventually I could get the teachings and create
content around that. The more debt I'm outputting the information and applying
it as much as I can. The more that I have taken
the invisible concepts that have been studied as far and bought it into external reality. We don't want to overthink
this step at all. There's find different
creative ways in order to practice the information
that you've been learning.
11. Final Project: That's a tough the
class project. What we want to do is find a subject that we want to
understand in more depth. Once we have the general
understanding of the subject, what we're gonna do
next is activate the funnels and the fly wheels. The funnel, we're going
to start off wide. We're going to start to learn
about any and everything regarding the subject from
any and all creators. Over time, we're going to
get more and more specific. By getting specific,
we're going to now chop away the people that
we don't take it seriously. And we're going
to double down on the creators who are
giving great advice. And then we're going
to get even more specific by understanding
the language, the formulas, and
the fundamentals. Once we feel like we're
getting as narrow as we can, we're going to activate
the flywheel and enter a new node where we're going to restart the wide
to narrow formula. We're gonna keep on doing
this until confusion hits. Whenever confusion hits,
we're going to follow the confusion to wherever
it goes. Overtime. We're going to understand the basic principles
of the subject, which is going to allow
us time to dwell. We dwell, we want to
solidify the concepts and personalize it more
towards ourselves. Once you feel like you
understand the topic, I want you to teach it to me. Either record a video or create a paragraph explaining the
subject to a person like me, and assume I know
nothing about it. Once you're complete
with your teaching, I want you to post it in the final project
section right on below. Congratulations on learning. Congratulations on studying. If you enjoyed this
