About This Class
Welcome to this lesson on how to sew and finish two basic seams that are super beginner-friendly. In this class, you’ll learn how to sew a basic seam and a French seam and then how to finish those seams off neatly and professionally.
For this class, you'll need some thread, a sewing machine, scrap fabric, pins, and scissors to start with. I use a basic stitch when sewing and to finish these seams you will need pinking shears or an overlocker, but when starting out you can just use ordinary scissors to practice with.
If you're looking for a step-by-step tutorial on how to sew two basic seams, this is the class for you! You'll be able to take what you learn in this video to start sewing straight away and make garments with these easy, basic seams.
Meet Your Teacher
Hi! I’m Tammy, I’m a self-taught sewist and I teach sewing classes here on Skillshare. Sewing has given me the confidence to be bolder with my clothing and has given me the skills to learn how to create a handmade wardrobe that I truly love. I also work full time as a graphic designer, I hope to inspire others to start making their own clothes and to show how fun and rewarding handmade clothes can be!

Try to recreate these seams yourself and experiment with different types of fabric, I'd love to see how they turn out! For the purpose of this video, I used a medium weight muslin fabric, but I encourage you to try cotton, satin, rayon, viscose, and crepe as they will all handle differently.
