1. Introduction: hello and welcome in this little PowerPoint journey, which I want to take you on here. The game plan will be very simple. I want to make you a better power point user and designer. In less than an hour, you may wonder how this is possible. Now, let me go to the PC. Let me show it. Wait. Thing I want to show you here within Power Point will be a couple off unknown tricks while designing a few slight. Among other things, you will learn what subtraction is, how to create original Grady int and how to design layoffs for your power point slides. That way we'll work. I'll create a couple off slight. And during the creation process, I will share all my thoughts and all my experience into what those slights could be expanded. How they are created and what are the best little known practices to create slights like that. And let's try to get better at power point. I'll show you how and I can't wait to start working with you. See you within electors
2. Start a project!: Hi, it would be amazing. And you can help
me on Skillshare by starting a product
for this class. Nice. At first, it doesn't have to be the ready product is go to the
Project and Resources tab. Hit on Create Project. And right, You're
welcome message. Later on when you create
slides from the lectures, you can share a
screenshot of that slide. You can do this by going to File Save As Selecting Browse. And you can select to
save as a JPEG there. By saving JPEG, you can select all slides
are just this one. Then you can come
back to the project, select Image and to just add
a slide that you created. I will be really happy to see it and it will also
be very helpful. Please start the
product right now. It will take only a few clicks and helps me a lot
here on Skillshare.
3. Merge Shapes Feature: in this lecture, I will showcase to you that merge shapes feature where you can take multiple shapes, go to the merge, shapes options and either subtract, intersect or do other cool things with them. Hello and welcome in one of the first lectures off these Power Point design class. In those few tutorials, I'm dedicated to make you better at Power point. In order to create slights like that, you need to know and slowly learn what merge shapes is. Let me quickly insert into PowerPoint three different shapes and issued open PowerPoint and create those type of shapes as well. You can create such shapes by going toe insert shapes, pressing on a rectangle, and is clicking and dragging over a shape. All right, I have two shapes, and since Power 20.2010 or 2013 the merge shape options is available in Power Point. It wasn't available in the older versions of PowerPoint like 2007 but now we have it, and we will enjoy and use it a lot. So look what I'm doing. If I select one object, one shape within power point, not the picture like we have here a shape. You can go to shape, form it, and you have that Merch shapes options. As you can see, they are great out now. But if if I have to, objects like laying on top of each other, I press my shift key and I said it. The other object. The merged shape options should become available. If not, then maybe the one off the objects is grouped because if I have a group with control G, this wouldn't work. This would be still great out, but that's an exception. I'm assuming that we have some shapes and we want to subtract or add them to each other. You can always go to shape former to the mirth shape options, and I would require you to use now to object in power point and go over each of these options. They are simple, and you will learn them once you work with them. But for the record, when it comes to the basic union connects to objects into one object. Combine. As you can see, subtract the middle of the place where the objects are connected. Fragment is very interesting and important because want your fragrant objects. You basically become three separate objects. This is a great, great great feature. What else do we have? The last and very important thing to remember is. Do we have divert shapes and we have here intersect and subtract? You can see one time the Intersect from each other, so they connected. Place remains and subtraction. Subtract one element from the other. However, it's very important to remember now. Why did the blue object disappear? And this, like yellowish object and it remain here? This is because I've selected this one first. If I select the blue one first, I press the shift key to select the next one. When I go back to merge shapes and press subtract. Now you can see it works the other way around, so it's very, very important which object you click first. If you click first, the blue object. The blue object will be the one that remains after subtraction. The same goes when there's more object. I'm selecting the blue first, pressing my shift key now the yellowish and the orange one. When you go to the subtract options, you can see the blue remains because it was the first selector. So that's something to keep in mind if you like selected everything and you are not sure them. Which one did I select first? I don't know what a waste of time on it. You just goto fragment and you delete all unnecessary element result would be the same just a bit more clicking around. And this is when it comes to merge in shapes. It's important before we proceed forward that you at least understand that something like that is available is possible and that you have this feature available.
4. Selection Pane: in this lecture, we are going to talk about the selection pain and how to select objects when they're covered up with other objects. Hey, welcome back in Power Point. I want to give you a hand about another little feature which might be very useful while you work in Power Point. This feature will be the selection pain. I'm sure plenty of you already know about the selection pain, but if you don't, you are going toe home select and you are able to open the selection pain. The selection pain holds list off every element inside of apartment Slide, and we are working with those Grady ins with those overlays. And very often one object covers. Another object covers. Another object covers another object. So how would I select? No, the object in the back. I would have a couple of ways off selecting it, but the most convenient one is opening the selection pain. Here we have the same names, but you can always press your left control key. Click. Yeah, I wanted this bottom one. Or just click, Click, Click. Alternatively, just like in photo shop and other graphic Softwares, you can diesel ect certain objects just for a while until you select what he wanted to select when it covers the right click. OK, I wanted to get rid off this one. Finally. Finally, I have the picture. I can select the picture or at least see Oh, it was picture number tree just for future reference back ground. You can even change the names. I know this is a BA tedious and this takes time and practice. But this way you can very easily select objects. You can see they pop back again. As I click on them. You can click also on this little I and this is when you struggle to select objects from the background or like items which cover up other items. You can easily open the selection pain, select them Here, press your left control Q and you can select them together. For now, I'll delete unnecessary things and let's go back to the real meat and real content. I wanted to teach your power point, and this is a slow start, but I needed to explain this to you in order to proceed forward
5. Slide 1. Establish a Layout: Okay, So in this lecture, I plan to teach you a lot about layout in order to create this image I used and lay out What? This A layout as you right. Click on a slight and power point and select layout. You have basic power point layout. You might know them. And those are the basic layout. What I did, I created a custom layout to have this kind of image so I can simply drag and drop an image like that. Let's tackle that In a completely new presentation, I will delete everything and I'll goto insert shapes and select a circle. Let me zoom out with my control and scroll will or here on the right bottom side, you can also zoom it out. What I did, I did a big circle. I placed a circle somewhere about here maybe a bit to the left, and I needed to, like, delete those elements off the circle. How I did that. I simply went again to insert shapes and inserted a rectangle shape on the left side just so it touches the slide. I pressed control de to duplicate it. I will rotate this object over with my shift key, and I'll place it on the topside. Like those are the borders which will cut out unnecessary portions off this element. So how do I cut it out? I select this element. Then, by holding my shift key, I select this and this I go to shape former merge shapes, and I simply use subtract. It's important if you select this one first, then those second, because the first selected item is the one that will remain after subtraction. Okay, that most important thing in the slight. This element is ready. Let me just put it on the side and press control. See? How do you establish a layout? This is not a big course about master slight. So for the sake of this tutorial, just follow the steps I take. I was going to view by having this control see selected this object to be copied. I was going to view and opening slight Master. The slight master, as you can see on the left side, is one big slide and layouts under it. What I'm doing, I'm right. Taking and inserting a new layout. Okay. This is my layout. I do not want any title. I'd not what any footer I want. Just this object here. Control V. All right. The way the layout works, it needs to have some elements put here in order to automate our process. So we need to go to insert placeholder. Once we are on slight master and select a picture. I want this picture to cover up the left site off the screen as we did here, at least the size of this object. Why do I do that? Because I'll crop out this layout to this exact object. How am I doing that? I'll put this object perfectly above the picture layout. Now I'm selecting the picture layout first. Okay, But having the picture layout selected, I right click and sent its to back. Just so it will be easier to select this object press and hold your left shift g and select this object in front of it Now, just as previously, we will goto shape, form it merch, shapes and again not subtract this time because it would subtract the middle portion. We will intersect by selecting intersect as I have it selected. It looks like that. But if i d selected, we have a completely new power plant layout with an automatically inserted picture on the left side and what's beautiful here. You can take this layout. You can duplicate this maybe in the future, when you create powerful in template for the sake of this tutorial, I just want to show you the possibilities I did too layouts with pictures inside of it. In this lecture, we have report a custom power point layout with an image that is cropped to our desired sizes. Do not think too much about the slide master because currently the slight master is a topic in itself for a completely separate course or section. It isn't meant to be explained here because the slide master is only for template creation and for those time type of things. But for the sake of this tutorial, it's very beneficial. If we create a little layout like that, I'll know close master of you and I want to show you in the next lecture. What exactly it is that we did see then
6. Unique Picture Gradients: with this lecture, you learn how to make Grady INTs around pictures which will perfectly match the entire design. Okay, we have established a layout and I still have this object here. Now, why do I need the layout? Because currently, I can simply right click layout and select the custom layout. I have what benefits and those just give me. Well, pretty nice benefits. Because now, no matter what picture I select again, simply drag and drop the picture into power point, and it will automatically snap into the right place. What else can we do while having a placeholder? We can simply go to picture former Krupp and we can move around the picture. That's not exactly the same case when we right click on an object and select and to fill it with a picture. Now we have the picture and perfect proportions. Let me just place this guy in the right place and this is it. What else did I do on this slide? Now, I had this object already prepared, which is amazing because I can simply control DE to duplicated because I still on a safe this object. I'll put it exactly over the picture. Then I'll start to make it a bit bigger and then right click sent to back. You see, this is bleeding over this picture, which is a great design and what's cool here. I can right click format shape, go into the fail options, and I can give it a grade int now. No matter what coloristic SMI design would have, I would select this object in the shape, form it and in the shape old line. I want to know what line and when it comes to the Grady, and you can always go here to the right side. You can delete a couple of colors and, for example, used the left in the right color, depending on how you design should be. As I remember, I went for a blue design. But for example, let's make it currently red and the second color maybe something orange deeper orange, more between yellow boom. And as you can see, we still can change the type of their radiant in the direction. Maybe from left to right will look a bit better, and this is how we can get what's even more impressive. We can again control detail, duplicate this object again, right? Click and send it to back and again re size it a little bit from the existing position. Maybe a lowering it here and look at the design. Liar layering. We can turn the colors. We can add additional colors. We can add multiple layers of it. Now look at that. Doesn't this look cool? And what's even cooler that we can simply take the background off this slide for mitt background, and you can change it to rate darker color. More colors custom I usually like If I go for dark background, I go for a very, very dark gray or dark, dark midnight blue as we go lower here and the colors are less saturated, for example, something like that is midnight blue collar beautiful. Another amazing thing that the object you created as we go back to the design portion off the object, we can select any given Grady in color, and you can give it transparency. You can see I moved the transparency up a little bit and look at that. This object be comes transparent. We can do the same with the second object, and that's the beauty off it. We have absolutely amazing color layering. You get the idea? In the previous presentation, I did basically the same. I just added some text books is here. This is how you go about such designs and power point while using a layout. I hope this is a big knowledge gain for you.
7. Leave a Review, Please: Hey, it would be extremely helpful for this
class if you go to the Review tab and click on leave a review and
write something there. If you don't see
this button yet, you need to watch a
few more lectures and it will become available. Sculpture now requires that classes have recent
reviews on them. So it would help me greatly. You just click here, you tell if you'd like
to class or not, and you write a simpler
view and click Submit. I would be very obliged if
you can do this right now. Thank you so much
and see you soon.
8. Slide 1. How To Know When You Are Done: in this lecture, we will do some final touches, like comparing different approaches to a slight or giving it and last little overly. What I did, as you can see, is very simple. I just took a one off those existing objects oppressed Control C and Control V. I just turned it around, made it a bit smaller, and this was a great background for my title. As for the boxes, you can immediately see how I did this. I just want to insert shapes and I used the rounded rectangle I made around the direct angle. I give it plenty of roundness and what's great since we already used ingredient like that. Once you click, click on ingredient fill. It will always inherit the last used Grady in feel. So I just did those boxes. OK, this is for this light. If you want a little final touch like I did here with this little overlay, this can be done very simple. I went again toe insert shapes, and I believe I was inserting a rectangle since PowerPoint 2013 or 2016. I'm not entirely shore. You can right click and simply select edit points so what I did. I selected edit point. I want to right click and at point. And I thought to myself Since we have the picture there, I want to make, like this cool, little or early. And do not worry. If you do not see anything behind this, he can simply quickly have to transparency. And now think for yourself and the world is be a good grade into at here. I believe it could go like that like that. So it doesn't touch this part. And this was it for me. I somehow felt that this would be a nice overly so what I did in this case I went again to Grady and Phil. And those cars are off course, a bit too crazy. So I went for a white or a great one. It all depends on what the results you want to achieve. And you are going with the transparency. In this case, if this is just a little overlay, a shiny overlay, you wanted transparency to be pretty high. I went for something like 96%. Okay. And for the first color, I believe I made it completely transparent. If not maybe nine D 96. And now look at that. Of course. We need to get rid off this ugly blue outline. If you click on this object, you can always go toe shaped former shape, old line and know all. All right, this would be, in my opinion, it When it comes to designing this slight, this little thing you can decide for yourself. You can always when you create something in power point just duplicate Delete the object you believe are unnecessary. Here maybe, for example, Dad, maybe this this should be different. Let's just assume that you wanted here, toe Compare those two slight. The way I compare things is by going on the bottom side toe the slight sorter. I opened the slights order and I make the zoom closer with my left control key and my scroll wheel and night taken directly compared, In my opinion, this little overlay is pretty OK, maybe this overlay should be behind this object. So I just double click on this light. I make sure that I select both objects with my shift key. Right click. Bring toe front. This way. Those two objects are now in front of those off This little overlay. And in my opinion, this looks a little better. Thank you for listening to this lecture. I hope you can share a similar approach when you are designing Slice and we will proceed forward. Where I want to show you another cool PowerPoint trick while doing so.
9. Slide 2. Hexagonal Image Preparation: I want to show you how you can make an object like that. It's not as simple as it seems. So I want to go over it with you together, you can see we have the layout, but I do not need the layout for the picture here. I wanted to do hear something completely different and what's important. I'm going to insert shapes and I want this hexagon here. So I'm creating this hexagon. But what I wanted to achieve here, let me quickly duplicate this object by control. D I wanted the hex are going to be like that and maybe a bit different. So how would we put a picture here? Because normally, if you select an object, if you go toe picture or texture filled, I'm selecting insert from a file and I'll select a picture that I have prepared. In my case, this is adult number one, so you can see what happens here. Luckily in the Parliament options, we can adjust this a little bit. So we have this object, and on the right side we have rotate which shape this is the first thing you want to uncheck. Okay, so we have gotten rid off this rotation would I did afterwards. By having this selected, you can goto the picture former to crop. And luckily, you can adjust this guy. But look at that. As you can see this dot you need to select the start because this line is cropping the area which displaced the picture this little dot is the picture. So you need to select the picture. I want to get this guy to use appropriate size like previously. All right. Once you have that, you can hit on crop. If you have troubles like with real life proportions, you can always drag and drop this image here. Maybe put it on the background and just compare sent to back. And you can compare it that way. In my opinion, this is like pretty okay and circle effect here. So that's how I started. I hate this ugly blue border, so I'm going toe shaped former shape, old line, No old line. So what did I do to, like, make this a bit more interesting? In original? We don't most of the work. Let me delete that. I put this one on the left side, Oppressed control D put it on the exact same spot and made it bigger. Now, how do you make things bigger? You hold it here, but as you can see, it can easily skew around. So you press your shift key to remain on constant proportions. And since I want to grow it outwards off the middle point, I also hold my left control key. So, to recap, I'm selecting pressing shift pressing control, holding everything down and making it bigger. All right, this looks pretty cool. I'll know, right? Click and sent him to back. You can notice we're getting something interesting here. If you want to go one step further, you can go to picture format. You're gonna goto artistic effect. And, for example, give him a blur or something. Just like, make the background a bit different. I will go for this plastic warp if you want a preview. It it's something weird like that. All right, so I was nearly completed here. What I did is one last duplication. Now I want to write, tick on the small one and bring it to front because it's being covered up. Now I put it here, and once again I went to fill And instead of having the picture, Phil, I was going for the great. And Phil, you can see we already have this nice, radiant with the colors. Maybe I want more off the color here, so I'll go for less transparency. And this is how you can make an outstanding hexagonal like overlay with the picture with a really cool effect behind it.
10. BONUS. Freeform Your Way Out Of It: since those lectures are set up to make you better at Power Point, I want to show you a feature. It's kind of amazing if you go toe entered shapes, you can see there is a bunch of shapes, but there are also a bunch of shapes missing, and you feel limited to what you can do in Power Point. For example, you have the lines and something that rarely anyone sees is this little feature. It's called free form shape, and once you click on that, not only can you click, click, click, click, click, you can also hold it down your mouse click And, for example, do this like crazy custom design off course it will not fit. And this particular design, which I have here now those perfect hexagons with what's cool here you can go in the closest object, and you can again give it to Grady Int. Remove the shape outline and look at that. Just like that, I made a completely custom shape. Now let's assume that I did it a bit better. I would, for example, up to transparency, and this would be just a small addition to my slide slide with some texture would immediately improve. And in a matter off a few mouse clicks, I can always create a custom shape. So if you really do not know, like what to do in your slide, you can always think about that. Maybe I fill out this corner with a randomized like object here. Boom, boom, boom! I closed object. I give it the Grady in I give it the shape outline and we have a really nice corner fill for this light. This is exactly what I did on this slide. I did this title. I did this button and then it was like the slight was to empty. Now, OK, maybe this corner doesn't perfectly match the pixel. Perfect nous off this hexagon. But having the possibility to do something like that, It's something to know about in PowerPoint and something very work to remember. I hope you will remember about this feature, and occasionally, when there is that the possibility to use it, you can make this a big advantage off your design skills.
11. Slide 3. Overlay The Other Way: in this lecture, I will show you how to properly crop a picture, and then I will show you a second way how to create custom slides. Now we will work on this kind of slight on the outside. It looks the same, but it's a done differently. It's done with an overlaying shape you do not always needs to use layout toe. Insert custom pictures. You can do it the other way around. Let me create a new slide, and you can see we have the layout, but I will delete the actual background off the layout. I want to select an image, and I'll drag and drop the image right here into Power Point Police to the same. Please goto pixels dot com or on splash dot com, where you can download such images, download and the amount of image or any image that you like, and we'll work with that. At first, you want to go to the picture format crop. You want to extend the crop area, and I mean that crop area, not the picture. So I'm extending the crop area, and here in the crop functions, I'll open the crop functions and select filled power point will automatically adjust the size of the image so it fills my entire screen. All right, are we will just how the image looks and I'm clicking on crop. Now let us do the magic. I'm starting by inserting a rectangle to the size off the entire slide like that. OK, perfect. I can make it transparent. So as I at least see what's happening now, I'm scrolling back. And as previously, I'm taking a big oval and I'll do a really big circle over this light. Um, to be honest, I only want, like, the bottom right part of the slight to be available, So I need to adjust the circle, do something like this. All right. I consider that I would put some radiance later here, Something like that. Perfect. Now we have this humongous circle over our object. We can easily get rid of that. Please select this object in the background, press your shift key and press on this circle. Now, having that selected, I want to go toe merge shapes again. And this time I want to use fragment fragment will intersect any touching toe objects and put it into separate objects. So what I mean by that The grating year is that I am getting rid off this entire big circle . I'm having this object as a guideline, and I'm having this object as the background I wanted. So with that, I can have plenty of fun for the background. With the eyedropper, I'll click. And I also like the same background which we had previously with no transparency and without any shape outline. And this is what most designers would stop at because we already have this object here. This is a beautiful slight in itself. We have this object where we can make a couple off cool things. I will show you in the next lecture how to do similar things like we did previously and how to make something super original with it. So stick on to the next lecture because this will be really something amazing and teach you another time. Great things in power point
12. Slide 3. Custom Cut Shapes: with this lecture, I want to teach you a cool power point technique. How to get those Kasten cattle shapes for your slides. What is great in the slight that we are using? No layout, which is Dragon dropped an image into power point and we are ready to work. So what I can do now I can duplicate this object, put it in the right spot and for example, as we did previously under slide, make it slightly bigger here. Like, get the first part of the new Grady int. No, beautiful, it is beautiful. But what is the problem here? The problem here is that this entire object covers up the picture. So how to adjust that? That why you always want to leave the original object here on the left side? What I'm usually doing? I'm just pressing control D. I am placing it over the image. And as you remember, this object has the exact size which we originally cut out from this object. So what's beautiful now that we can select the newly created Grady int the bigger one which goes out, let me like, place it in the background, the newly created radiant, then select the object. We want to cut it off again. Merch, shapes and subtract. This will leave me. I can bring it to front back again. This will leave me with the very new original Grady. And I'm going to the great in tools. I just make sure that I have not outlined to make get rid off the blue outlines. And look at that. We have a completely unique radiant and you can do this. How many times you want you take this object, you resize it to the appropriate size off your liking. For example, making it something like this would look very, very cool. Then you take this perfect size one you to select everything. You select a new one, and I will have no troubles selecting the grading. If you have trouble selecting the radiant remember home select selection pain. It turns out it's free form shaped 13. So I'm selecting the new one with my left control key. I'm selecting shape 13 and if you are not sure which is which just de select and then turn it off shape. Former merge shapes Subtract. This will leave me with another cool custom object Perfectly cut out to fit this slight without making and overlay over this picture. Now we go to great infill and room. We are there off course. If you want an overlay over the picture. Absolutely no problem. But why do we not give it like a different look, then our existing objects you can see this is very easily adjusted. So this way we can make a very original designs may be changing the grade and a little bit up a very original design and power point with custom cut out shapes. And it's not simple to do so, so it's pretty advanced and, you know, gain the knowledge how to approach such designs. Now it's your time to practice. I would require you to create those three slides because all of them Defu something new in power points, and I believe this is very, very valuable knowledge.
13. Thank You!: Thank you so much for watching the lectures. Hopefully you learned a lot about power point personally. Thank you very much for watching it until the very end. I will be honored and a very grateful if you would give me a positive review about this class. This course this will help me as a designer and no, that you are craving more off this type of lectures. You did a good job arriving at the end, staying with me throughout collectors. That's not simple. That's something on Lee you could accomplish. How great This is just a friendly message towards you. If you are interested, I have plenty more off power point content. And those type, of course, is if you didn't like something or have some questions, please hit me up. I will be available for contact. Thank you once again and see you in other ones like that.
