1. Welcome: Well, it's that
time of year again, where we start asking
ourselves questions like, Where do I want to go this year? What do I want to connect with? How would I like to change
and improve my life? These are some big questions
that need some big answers. And sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming,
don't you think? Do you know that the
average person stops their New Year's resolutions
after just two weeks? Well, today, I'm
going to show you a lasting way to set and accomplish the changes that you would like to
make in your life. I'm going to walk you through
some simple steps that are going to get us lined up
and ready to get working. Hi, everyone. My name
is Carrie Sanders, and I'm an artist, a
teacher, and a creative. I've had a lot of requests
from people over the years to show them how I create
my vision boards. Because I like to do things
kind of in the artistic way, as you can see, rather than cutting out a lot of
pictures from a magazine. I like to use this
system because I can really invest myself in
it. It's meaningful. It's fun to create, and it's interesting to look at from
an artist's perspective, as we're creating thoughtful
steps that are actionable. I'm going to walk you through four simple steps to first bring forth your
vision and goals. Second, place them
into four categories. Third, break down
those categories into smaller steps
that are actionable. And fourth, as artists
and creatives, we're going to put our heart, our mindfulness,
and our energy into creating a board that
you will love designing, and you'll be drawn to it every day to read it out loud as you absorb and ingrain your
powerful message to yourself, which will in turn manifest
your actions and bring your vision into alignment
with reality. It really works. I can tell you I've
done it for years, and that's why people
ask me how I do it because they have
seen the changes that have come into my life
over the years simply by using these artistic
vision boards. So what do you say?
You grab your markers, grab your pens, grab
your colored pencils. Okay, you can use a magazine or pull pictures
off the Internet, as well. Do what speaks to you. Do what's easy and simple for you that resonates to
your heart and soul. That's what matters most. And let's get creating our
vision for this new year.
2. Develop Your Theme For The Year: Ask yourself, what do I want? What do I want to
accomplish this year? What do I want to
change in my life? Who do I want to connect with? What relationships do
I want to strengthen? What career direction
do I want to take? These are some big questions that can seem a
little overwhelming, and the answers to
these questions will be powerful and direct
you throughout the year. I would gently remind
you that true happiness comes from the inside,
not the outside. When you're answering and searching for these
questions and answers on where you want to go and what you
want to accomplish, Always take a moment
to ask yourself, is it bringing me joy? Will it bring me happiness? Will it be lasting
or is it short term? Remember the journey is
what brings you happiness. It's the day to day
experience that enriches your life and
makes you truly joyful. Alright, I'm off my soapbox now. I like to start with John
Gordon's idea of picking up a word that kind of embodies what I want to
accomplish for the whole year. He suggests choosing one word. Well, I don't mind expanding
that to more than one word, but one idea, I would say. Here's my word for this
year is Illuminate. Now, along with that, every
time I choose a word, illustrate, create, these are some examples from
previous years. I always choose a quote or a thought that
kind of supports that word or gives me motivation throughout the year so that
I can keep moving forward. To offer a few examples on choosing a word and
a supporting theme, this year, I'm using
the word illuminate. And the theme I've chosen is when your inner light shines, your outer light glows. And that's going to encompass all four areas that
we'll be talking about today as we finish out the steps to creating
our vision boards. Some of the things
that I have used in the past are illustrate. My life will be the best illustration of all
my life's work. Also, I've used Create. Today is the opportunity to
create the tomorrow you want, and I've used Invest in life, where you invest your heart, you invest your life. It's quite easy to
go online and type in Word of the Year or John
Gordon word suggestions. There's lots of lists
available on Pmtst and all across the Internet now on a suggested
list of words. So start reviewing,
see what resonates. You know, start with
a list of ten and start knocking those down until you hit the one and
then sit with it. Really sit with that word for a while and make sure it's
what you really want. Now that you have your word, it's time to do an
Internet search for your supporting theme. It's easier than you think. There are lots of things
available to us on the Internet. So just do a search and
see what populates. And now that you have your word or your phrase and
your supporting theme, we're ready to take
the next step, so I'll see you in
the next video.
3. Four Categories & Quotes: All right, we are
going to dive into each category and start
setting our goals. Now, the important part here, guys, is to just let it flow. Let your feelings bubble up. Don't get caught up in the
thought process at this point. Because you're subconscious, your mind knows what
you want to do. You just have to let it
out. Don't overthink it. Now that we have decided on our word and we have
our supporting theme, it's time for us to come
over to our sketchbook and divide that
into four sections. We're going to keep it simple. And we're going to place
a circle in the center, which will hold that theme
and word for the year. But we need to decide what to hold within each
section of the board. Each section is going to represent a certain
aspect of your life, and it can represent
multiple parts of your life. So some ideas for each of
these sections could be inclusive of career,
finances, family, friends, romance,
a healthy body, mindfulness, personal
growth, recreation, travel. The list goes on and on. So it's up to you to
decide what you want your four areas to represent
in your life this year. Once you've decided on your
four general categories, then go online and find one or two quotes for each
area that offers support and inspiration and reminds you of your vision and
who you plan to become. Keep in mind that we're going
to be reading these quotes out loud every single
day this year. So make sure they're positive and they're moving you forward. Words are very powerful, so choose Licely
with your quotes. Look at your category and start brainstorming
on where you'd like to be in six months or
a year and work with that. Let your feelings
come to the surface. Remember that what
we focus on grows, so we need that
passion and feeling from within to be
the driving force for us to read our vision board every day and fully absorb
it into our subconscious. For example, in my section
for relationships, I've broken it down
into several areas. I thought, What type of relationships do I
want to work on? Well, my subcategories became
family, friends, and God. And I wrote down each of those as a sub headline
in that section. And then I took each of those, and I thought, how do I
want to strengthen family? And it just flowed the
things that I wanted to do to improve my
relationship with my family. And then same with poor
friends and so on. And all you need to do is list a few simple
steps that you can take to improve in the areas
that you are working on. One final thought is, if you're already
doing something, and you want to keep doing
it, and it's working for you? Congratulations. Put
it on your board. Keep doing that thing. You don't have to leave it off just because you're already doing it. So if you have something that has worked well, you've
worked hard at it. You want to keep doing
it, put it on your board. It's something you want
to remind yourself of. Congratulate yourself. Keep working hard and take
it to the next level. Maybe you're thinking to
yourself, Well, Kerri, one of my goals is, I want
to retire in five years. That's great. Put it on there. But also, make sure
that underneath it, you're going to list something
that you can do now, this year to help you
achieve that goal. Make sure that you are
supporting that goal, that long term goal
with something that's actionable that
you can do this year. It's going to help
perpetuate you and give you success on the road to
that early retirement. Let's do a quick recap before
we move to the next video. First, you're going to decide on your four categories to
encompass your life. Second, you're going
to start listing some subcategories
within each section. And third, you're going
to go online and find one or two quotes to
support each section. All right. I'll see
you in the next video.
4. Gather Images & Calligraphy: H. Whoo. That was the hard part. Okay, take a deep
breath. And let it out. And now, oh, get your creative
juices going. You artists. This is where I start to tingle. This is the really
fun part. Alright. We now have our sections composed with the goals
that we want to accomplish. Now, you may have a blank spot here and
there where you're like, you're still thinking about it. Trust me when I say it's going to come to you.
Trust the process. But now we can start looking for what we want to
illustrate our boards with. So I would suggest that you just start taking some of these
goals and get on the Internet, start gathering the pictures
that you think you'd like to use because I have found
it just saves time. For me, I wanted to just
do it quickly, smoothly. I didn't want to have to
worry about being that extra creative to come up with my
own ideas for each thing. So go ahead and start
pulling up pictures that you would like
and save them to your computer or
print them out so that you'll have them handy
and we will be good to go. While you're out searching on the Internet along these lines, I would suggest if you need to, like me, look up some different
ways to do lettering. I got to say, calligraphy is one of my biggest weaknesses. I am not great at it, but I do like to
have a little bit of a variety for my lettering. And so I looked up a couple
of different alphabets, and the one thing that I
did kind of go all out on was the e and the
flowers for Illuminate. And I did that using
an AI program, so that I knew that
it was original and it was just something
that I wanted to do. You know, I'm going to say it's been a little bit
hard for me to be so vulnerable to teach this
class today because I mean, these are my personal goals. You're seeing my
life laid out here. And I've just had
so many requests from people to go
through the process. I had someone just a
few days ago, actually, I had this on my wall
in my art studio, and they were looking
at it so intently. In fact, asked if they
could take a picture of it. And they turned to
me and they said, Carrie, it's just so you. And that's exactly right. That's why this whole process is so vital and important
to your success. You put down here something from your heart and your soul,
the person that you are, the person that you want to be, the goals that you
want to accomplish, it's all just so you. And you will accomplish them. So make sure you're
choosing pictures and quotes and goals that
are just so you. In other words, if I were
to put a picture from a magazine on here that was of a supermodel, that's not me. I will never be a supermodel. I'm a 64-year-old
mom and grandma. Make sure you're putting
something on here that is just you. You matter. You're important.
You are fabulous. And let's help you accomplish becoming that vision
that you want to be. No one else, you.
5. Let's Illustrate our Boards: We are finished with
our sketchboard, and it's time for us to
go ahead and come back to our actual vision
board and start putting on all of our goals
and our illustrations. This is so exciting. I begin my board by dividing
it into four sections, and I add guidelines for
my quotes to be written. Then I'll trace a circle in the middle for my word
and supporting theme. At this point, I am so excited that I just have
to get painting, guys. So I trace my design
onto tracing paper, and I use some graphite paper as I apply the
pattern to my board. You simply slide the graphite under your tracing
paper and then draw over the pattern lines using a pen or a
pencil or a stylus. I then go over my lines
using a waterproof marker. Now, caution, test your marker first to make sure it won't bleed when you paint
over it with watercolor. If you're not painting,
you can use acrylic or other types of
markers, colored pencils. Do what you want to create
your illustrations. If you're doing a medallion or a theme circle
for each section, then I would do that
next because it keeps you going in the right
direction organizationally. And not only that, it's
just super fun and inspiring to take a look at what you've done
as you move along. Again, I would trace my
pattern onto tracing paper, get it just the way you
would like it to be, and then apply that
to your vision board using graphite paper,
and you're good to go. Go ahead and apply your
medallions if you're doing this step and paint those in, marker those in, use your pen, be creative and
enjoy this process. Look how beautiful
your board is already. I'm so proud of you.
It looks wonderful. Now, this is the time
to go ahead and add your quotes to each
section of your board. And you should already have these lined up and ready to go. Just take a look at
your sketchbook and transfer those quotes over
if they still feel right. Remember, through
this whole process, it's the power and intention of the words that you're
writing that's important. So as you do this, go ahead and use a pencil
to put those quotes onto your board to ensure that
you have great spacing. Don't let calligraphy
hold you up. Remember, we pulled some samples off the Internet so that we have some lettering that we're happy with and we can refer back to. And as you do this process, it's very important that you are using the power
of intention, that you are being mindful that you are thinking
about that quote, you are thinking about how
it's important to you and it's framing your vision and shaping your
life for this year. It's finally time to
add your vision to each section and bring
your board fully to life. Start by drawing a
line for your titles, then shorter lines
for your subtitles. Then use a pencil to write
your goals on those lines. Then go over your words with a marker or whatever
you've chosen to use. After that, then trace or
sketch the illustration you've decided on to represent that
goal and bring it to life. I have found the
greatest success comes from sketching
and painting an entire section or category before moving
on to the next one. Because that way, I
am mentally focused and fully engaged on the goals that I want to accomplish under that main category before I
switch gears to another idea. So that would be
my suggestion for you here. Just a little tip. Just make sure that you let it dry completely before you erase. And when you erase, use either a soft needed eraser
or use a soft rubber eraser. Often, I will just let it dry overnight before
I even attempt to erase as hard as it is to see those pencil marks underneath
what you have painted, you don't want it to smear. There's not much coming
back from a smear, so be patient and then you can
remove those pencil lines.
6. Manifest Your Vision, Congrats & Bloopers: Yeah. Now the
important part, guys, you have taken the time
to create this beautiful, illustrated vision board that is unique to you and only you. It's one of a kind as are you. And it's important that
you now manifest it by standing in front of
it every single day and reading every
word on it out loud. And I know I can hear you now. After a month, you're
gonna be like, Carrie. I have it memorized. Good. That's what I
say to you. Good. Because the more you say it, the more you ingrain
it into your thoughts. Your thoughts become actions. Your actions become reality. So you can create the
life you've wanted. Yes, the life you've dreamed
of by standing in front of your vision board every day and reading out loud every word
that you've put on there. Baby sips, every day, a little change every day. Remember what Buddha said? What you think you
become, what you feel, you attract, what you
imagine, you create. Congratulations on
finishing your vision board and accomplishing what we
set out to do in this class. I wish you the most
accomplished year this year. I can't wait to see
what you have done. So please, if you could
take a moment to snap a pick and post your
vision board below, unless it's too personal and
you don't want to share, and I certainly respect that and understand
that if you don't. If you would like to get a little ping when I come
out with a new class, all you need to do is look for this button and follow
me here on Skill Share. Also, if you know someone else who might benefit
from this class, just look for this link
here on this page, and you can share
that with them, and it will take them
right to this class, and they can enjoy that as well. I would sure love to spend more time with you in
some of my other classes. All you need to do is go
to the top of this page, type in my name, Carrie Sanders, and all the classes
that I have here on Skill Share will
populate for you, and hopefully something would be of interest for you there. Thanks again, everyone. I guess that means it's
time for bloopers. All right. Take care. Bye bye. My supporting thought is, when you illuminate the light within your world with I
can't remember what it is. And my supporting thought is when you when your
inner light glows, your outer world glows. No, that's not right, either. Oh, my gosh.
