1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having
a great day today. I'm excited about sharing
this project with you. This is a drawing and
watercolor painting project. And I designed it
especially for kids. You do not need to
have any drawing or painting experience at all. To be successful
with this project. I will take you step-by-step through all the steps
you need to take. Today, we are going
to be creating this cute pink flamingo design. Let's talk about
the supplies and the materials that you will
need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints
and a paintbrush. You will also need a
cup or a bowl with clean water and a
set of crayons, or a set of oil pastels
and a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back
here in the next video.
2. Step 1: Draw a Flamingo Design: In this step we are going to
draw our flamingo designs. So let's get started. I'm going to be
using my oil pastel, so I'm going to set
my crayons aside. So you can choose
if you'd like to use your crayons or
your oil pastels, I am going to use
my oil pastels. So what you'll want to do first is you'll want to try
to think of a color that you'd like to use for
the outline of your flamingo. You can use a pink or
a red or an orange. It's really up to you. I'm going to use
this purple color. I think that that
will look great for my flamingo drawing. Alright, so choose a
color that you would like to use for your
flamingo drawing. Alright, the first
thing that we're going to do is we're going to go up to almost the top
of our piece of paper. We're coming down maybe
about four or five inches, that will be about seven
or eight centimeters. What we're going to do is we're going to make the letter U, but it's going to be
slanted to the side. Let me show you what I mean. So we're going to make a
U that looks like this. See how it's a little
bit slanted to the side. Now what we're going
to do is we are going to come back up to
the top of our line. And we're going to come around. And then we're going to come
down at a slight curve. You see how I did that? So I went back to my line. I came down and I curved around. Now what we're going
to do is we're going to go back to this line, going just a little bit and
come down with a curved line. So you're following along
with that curve line. This is going to be the head, the next of our flamingo. Now we're going to create the
flamingos body right here. So let's start right here. And we're going to make a
curved line and then come down. It's just a curve
line coming down. And if you hit the edge of your piece of
paper, that's okay. Then we're going to go back
to this line right here. And we're going to make
a curved line coming up. And we are going to touch that
initial line and close up. This is going to be the
back tail of our flamingo. Now we're going to make a
wing inside of our flamingo. You can make any type of
wing that you'd like. I'm just going to
make a curve line. Then another curved
line down below. Just like that, it just
adds a little bit of detail to the body
of our flamingo. Now that we have the head and the body and the wing
of our flamingo. Let's add a little
bit of detail. So I'm going to use my black. And I'm going to start
out here and I'm going to make the bill of my flamingo. And it's going to
be a curved line coming out from the
side and then close up. Alright, so curved line coming down and then another
curve line underneath. I'm going to make an eye and I'm going to make my eye closed. And I'm going to make some
very small eyelashes. You can make your eyes
open if you'd like. It's up to you. And then I'm going to come down here and I'm going to make some legs. And flamingo legs are
pretty interesting. What I'm going to do is
I'm going to come from the bottom of the body and I'm going to
make a straight leg. Then the other leg is
going to be behind the first leg and it's going to come out at a little
bit of an angle. Then it's going to cross
over that initial line. Then we're going to
put a circle or a dot right here and
then one right here, those are the knees. And then on this one right here, I'm going to make a
foot just like that. And then this foot right here is going to be covered up by water. Okay? Alright, so I'm finished
with my black for now. And I'm going to put that away. And let's create a
background for our flamingo. I'm going to wipe off some of that oil pastel because it
gets really, really messy. And I want to make
sure that I keep my hands pretty clean
for the next colors. Alright, Let's
create a background. So I'm going to put some trees, some palm trees over
here on the sides, close to the head and
the body of my flamingo. I'm going to use a green color. I think I'm going to
use this darker green so you can choose a color
that you'd like to use. It doesn't have to be
exactly this green. It can be any color
that you'd like. And we're going
to make two trees coming out from the sides. So we're going to
make palm trees, palm trees like this. So we have curved
line coming up, bend down, and in, and in. And then we're going to do
the same thing on this side. So curved lines is larger, as small as you'd like to
make them. It's up to you. Alright, so there we have our palm trees peeking
in from the side. Now what we're going to do is we're going to put that down and go ahead and get your brown. If you don't have
brown, That's okay. You can use a tan
color if you have it. And if you don't have
to and that's okay, just use whatever
color you'd like. This is going to be
the color that we use for the trunks of our trees. So we're just going to
make our tree trunks very, very thin, coming all the way down to the water which
we haven't put in yet. So about an inch
from the bottom or two centimeters coming down. Same thing. Then if you'd like to add some
detail in these trunks, you can go ahead and add
some lines if you'd like. I like to make little
slanted lines. If you don't want to do
this part, that's okay. Alrighty, Let's put that away. And let's come down
to the bottom. And let's take a color blue. I'm going to choose
this color blue. If you don't have this
color blue, that's okay. Your set of crayons or oil pastels might be very
different from mine. So just work with what you have. We're just going to make some curved lines that are
attached to each other. And we're just
going to go across the bottom of our piece
of paper like this. This down here will
represent some water. If you want to add a
little bit of detail, like some extra little lines, you can go ahead and do that. You may or may not
have room for that. Okay. Now, I am going to go back up to the top and
I'm going to use my yellow and I'm
going to create a sun. So I'm going to come
up here to the top, and the sun is just
going to be peeking out of the top of
my piece of paper. I'm not sure if
you can see that. It's just a curved line. And then I'm going to make
some triangles coming out so that it looks
like there's a sun peeking out from the top
of my piece of paper. Already friends. So we have our flamingo
standing in the water. We have some palm trees
and a son up in the sky. If you have some space
around your flamingo, you can go ahead and
add more detail with your colors in your
oil pastel set or your crayons
set if you'd like. If you feel like you're
finished with your drawing, then you can go ahead and stop. I feel like I'm finished
with my drawing, so I'm going to go
ahead and stop. But you can continue on. When we come back, we will start applying some watercolor
paints to our design.
3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we
are going to apply some watercolor
paints to our design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're
going to do is we're going to prepare our watercolor paints. And the way that we do
that is we add a drop or two of water inside
each pan of paint. And what this will do is it
will soften up our paints. They are much easier
for us to use. So I like to go ahead and
take a moment to do that. Now that our paints
or softening up, Let's turn our attention
to our design. Remember, my design might
look different from yours, and that's a really good thing. It's good to be
different with your art. And your art is your art and we want it to look like
your heart. Okay? So what I'm going to do is I am going to paint my flamingo pink. And then I am going to
paint the background, either blue or orange. My background might be
a sunset this time. I haven't decided yet. I'm going to paint my
son yellow and my trees, green and my trunks, brown and my water blue. You can paint your artwork
any colors that you'd like. I'm going to save my
black paint for last. I'm going to paint the
beak or the bill on my flamingo last and
the flamingos foot. Because I'm going to
paint those black. Alright, so I'm going
to start out with my flamingo and then I'm
going to move to the water, the trees and the sun. And then in the next step, That's when I will
paint the background. Alright, so let me get started. I'm going to get
started with my pink. And oh, wow, that's a really
nice pink color, isn't it? Remember, your pink
colors might not be exactly the same as
mine. And that's okay. Just use what you have
available to you. If you do not have this
color pink, that's okay. You know what I do
when I need pink, but I don't have it available
to me and my paint set. I just add quite a bit
of water to my red. And that will make a light red and almost
like a pink color. So that's a good choice to use. If you want to use
your light red, it'll look kind of
like a pinkish color. All right, so there is my body
I painted paint his wing. And then I'm going to move
on to the other details. I'll, I'll paint this
water down here blue. And I think what I'll do is
I will speed up this video. And you can watch me. And I'll speed it
up to the point where it doesn't last very long. Already friends, I'm finished
painting my flamingo, the trees, the sun,
and the water. And when I come back, we will start painting
the background. And then the last
thing that we'll do is paint the bill and the foot. So I'll see you back
here in the next video.
4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step we
are going to paint our background for
our flamingo designs. So let's get started. I've decided that I'd like to
paint my background orange because I am going to
say that it's a sunset. I have the sun up here
and it's going down. So I wanted to paint
the background orange. So you get to paint the background any
color that you like. You can choose, orange or blue or any other color. Alright? And then the last
thing that we're going to do is we're going to paint black on the
bill and the foot. Alright, so I'm going to
get started with my orange. I'm going to take my time
so I do my best work. And if I go outside of my lines a
little bit, that's okay. I'm not going to worry
about it too much because I know that the
nature of watercolor paints, watercolor paints lived
a sporadic around. So I am going to understand
that if that happens, it'll be okay, right. I'm going to choose a lighter
orange and a darker orange. And I'll mix them up
just a little bit. What I'll do is I will speed up this video so you can watch me and I'll see you back
here in just a minute. Alrighty friends. I'm finished painting
the sky orange. And I think that I made
the right decision. I'm really happy with it. It looks like a
sunset sky to me. Now the last thing that I'm
going to do is I'm going to paint the bill black
and the foot black. So I'm going to take a
little bit of black. I'm going to put it into
one of my wells and add some water because I don't want it to be a
super strong black. I'm going to make it a little
bit more of a gray color. So I'm going to just be
very careful when I paint. Then I'm also going to paint
this little foot down here. And that's going
to be challenging because that's such
a small space, but I did it already friends, I hope that you had a lot
of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
