1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi, friends. How are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today, we are going to be creating this bear design. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and one or two paint brushes. I'm going to use two pat brushes. I'm going to use a smaller pat brush and a larger paint brush. But just use what you have available to you. You will need a cup ible with clean water and a black oil pastel or crayon and a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw Happy Bears: S. In this step, we are going to draw our cuddly bear design, so let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to pick up our black oil pastel or crayon. We're going to come up a little bit from the bottom. We're going to draw some flowers down here, so we want to leave some space. We're going to start our big bear about right here. Okay? So I'm coming up maybe about five or 6 ". That would be about 10 centimeters. And what we're going to do is we're going to make a giant letter U coming up. Coming around and then coming back down to about the same length as the initial side on here on the left. So let me show you what I mean. So we're going to come up curve around, and then come back down. Go. This is going to be our big bear. All right. Now what we're going to do inside the big bear is we're going to make some features up here and for the ears. So let's start with the ears. So we're just going to make some curve lines. Bears do not have really big ears. And then on the inside or the outside of those lines. Maybe I'll make this one on the outside, and then this one on the inside. We're going to make some smaller, more detailed curve lines. And then we're going to make a small face up here at the very top. Now, we are going to have a smaller bear right here, so we want to leave a lot of room for that smaller bear. So big bear, our big bear's face is going to be pretty close to the top, okay. So we're going to make some curve lines for the eyes like this because the eyes are going to be closed. And then we're going to make a shape that looks like this. This is going to be the nose area. And inside that shape, we're going to make a triangle. That looks like a triangle with a little bit of a flat edge on the bottom, right? That's okay. And then I'm going to make two curve lines because this big bear is pretty happy. And then I'm going to make some little cheeks. If you don't want to make cheeks, that's okay, but I like to make cheeks sometimes, and I like to paint them pink. Alright, so the bear's face looks like it's pretty high on the piece of paper, but imagine the bear kind of lifting up the face a little bit, and so the bear is looking up. So think about the bear looking up a little bit. So down here, we're going to create our smaller bear. So we're going to start about the same place where we started the big bear about right here. And it's going to be the same shape. It's going to be a U, going to go almost all the way up to that nose area and then come back down. So this is going to be the little bear. Let's create some ears with a little bit of detail inside. Same like we did with the big bear. And then inside this smaller bear, we're going to make some features. So I'm going to make some eyes, some curve lines like this because the eyes are closed on this bear as well, and then a shape like this. And then a triangle nose and a little smiley mouth. And then if you'd like to make some cheeks, you can go ahead and do that, but you don't have to if you don't want to. All right, now let's come over here to the side of the small bear and make some small paws. So now we're going to make some paws that are going to be holding this smaller bear. The paws are going to belong to the larger bear. So we're going to start about right here at the line. Come over, touch that little bear, and then come back and then do the same thing on the other side like this. If you'd like to make some little paw marks, you can do that as well, but I'm not going to do that part. Alright, inside, let's go back to the little bear. Inside, I'm going to make a little bit of detail for the tummy like that. And you can't see the bigger bear's tummy because the bigger bear's tummy is covered by the little bear. Alright, the next thing that we're going to do down here is we're going to create a bunch of flowers. Almost think of it this way. Think of the little bears as popping out of the flowers. Okay? So think about the kind of flowers that you'd like to make down here at the bottom. I'm going to make some daisies because that's my favorite type of flower to make. So I'm just going to make a circle, and then I'm just going to start making some petals, and I'm going to make a bunch of daisies. I'm not quite sure how many I can fit on my piece of paper, but I'm just going to keep making daisies until I'm happy with the way that my artwork looks. Some daisies might be larger, some might be smaller. So might go behind other daisies. And some might be going off my piece of paper like this, and that's fine as well. So I'm going to go ahead and fill up this whole entire space down here at the bottom with daisies. All right. Now, I have all of my daisies, and what I'm going to do next is I'm going to add some different leaves and maybe some circles down here on the bottom as well to fill up the rest of the space because I want a lot of the space to be filled up. So I'm going to make some leaves that look like this. There're just two curve lines. So I'm going to fill up the space. If I have a tiny space like this one, I'll just put like a little circle. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. All right, friends, so I'm just going to take another look at my artwork, and if I feel like I need to add something somewhere on my piece of paper down here at the bottom, something like a leaf or a flower or a circle, I'm going to go ahead and do that. Now, what I'm going to do is come back up to the bears, and I'm going to make sure that the bears bodies, these lines right here are going into the flowers. So if I need to extend those lines a little bit, I'm going to go ahead and do that. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to come back up here to the top of my piece of paper, and I'm going to make a small heart. So I'm going to do that because these two bears love one another. I hope you can see that on the video, but if you can't, I just added a small heart here at the top. Now, if there's anything else that you'd like to add to your design, you can go ahead and do that now. For example, if you'd like to add some more detail down here to your flower area, you can do that. If you'd like to add any type of accessory for your bears, you can do that as well. You can add a bow or a cap or any type of design that you'd like onto your bear or onto the background. Okay. When we come back, we will start painting our design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Bears: In this step we are going to add some watercolor paints to our design. Let's get started. The first thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to add one or two drops of water into each of my pans of paint. What this will do is it will soften up my paint just a little bit so that it is easier for us to use. I really do encourage all of my students to take this step because it does help. That our paints are softening up. Let's turn our attention to our design. Here we have two bears and they're popping out of these flowers down here at the bottom, and you get to decide which colors that you would like to paint your bears. We're going to just start in this step to paint the bears. That's it. We're not going to paint the flowers or the background. I'm going to paint my bears brown, a lighter brown. I'm going to make brown for the larger bear and a lighter brown for the smaller bear. Let me show you how I'm going to do that. I'm going to start by putting a few drops of water into one of my wells. And then I'm going to add some brown paint to that water and mix it up really, really well. And then I'm going to start painting. I'm going to start by painting my smaller bear. Now, as you can see, my smaller bear is fairly light. I want the smaller bear to be a little bit lighter than the larger bear. I'm going to go ahead and use this color, this lighter brown color. To paint the small bear. Then I'm going to go back, add more brown paint to this paint right here, and then that'll create a darker color for my bear. Now, for this space right here and for the nose area, on my small bear and my large bear, I am going to add some more water because I want this area to be pretty light. So when you add more water to a color, a paint color, then it will make that paint color super light. All right. So now I have my small bear and the tummy on my small bear and the nose area on my small bear and even my large bear. I used a pretty light brown. It's more of a tan color. Now what I'm going to do is add a bit more water so I can make some more paint, and I'm going to add more brown paint so that this paint is going to be darker. So that there's a little bit of a color variation between my larger bear and my smaller bear. See how that's a little bit darker, little bit more. Just sometimes have to test things out and experiment a little bit when you are doing art. Okay, so this color is a little bit darker, not a lot, but a little. That's exactly what I'm looking for. So what I'm going to do is speed up this video. I'm going to paint this larger bear, and I'll be back in just a minute. All right, friends, I'm finish painting my bears bodies. I have the larger bears body painted and the smaller bear. Now I'm going to go ahead and make some pink paint. I'm putting a little bit of water into one of my wells, and I want this paint to be light, so I'm going to add quite a bit of water. And then just a small amount of paint. I'm going to paint the inside of the ears. Wow. This inside of this ear is a lot bigger than this ear, right? That's okay. That makes things look very interesting. And even a little bit funny. All right. The last thing that I'm going to do in this step is I'm going to paint the noses, and I'm going to paint those noses a gray color. I'm going to put some of my water into one of my wells and add a tiny bit of black paint, just a tiny, tiny, tiny bit. Then I'm going to paint those noses. There we go. If you'd like to use your smaller paint brushes for some of these spaces, you can go ahead and do that. If you have one available to you. All right. In the next step, what we're going to do is we're going to come back, and we are going to start painting the background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint the background, so let's get started. We're going to start down here painting the flowers. You get to choose the colors that you'd like to paint the flowers. Think about the flowers that you've seen when you were taking a walk or when you went through the garden. Think about those colors. Those are the colors that you can get some ideas from. I'm going to paint my flowers probably pink and orange, maybe orange and yellow, I haven't really decided. Then after I paint my flowers, I'm going to go ahead and paint my leaves green. Then these little dots right here, I haven't decided on those as well. I'm going to wait until after I paint my flowers. After we paint our flowers and all of the details like the leaves and the little dots. What we're going to do next is we're going to move to our background. I am going to paint my background blue. Because I want it to look like it's the sky. Then I'm going to paint my heart, and I'll probably paint my heart red. I like to paint hearts either red or pink, and I'm going to choose red. Again, this is your artwork, so you get to choose the colors that you'd like. I think I might use my smaller paint brush for this step, but if you'd like to use a bigger brush, go ahead and do that. For my sky, I might use the larger brush. I haven't decided yet. What I'm going to do is I am just going to start painting. And I am going to speed up this video so you can watch me, and then you can get started on your own artwork. All right, friends. Before I begin painting the sky, as I mentioned before, I'm going to paint that blue. I'm going to add a little bit of light green into these spaces here between the flowers and the leaves and the little dots. I'm not sure if you can see that there are some white spaces here. I'm going to add a light green to those areas, and I might miss a few areas, and that's okay. I'm just going to do the best that I can to get into those really tiny places. Alrighty friends, I'm finished painting my design. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
