1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today we are going to be creating this beautiful bouquet of flowers inside of a vase. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paper brush. You will also need a cup able with clean water and a set of oil pastels, or a set of crayons and a paper towel. Go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw Swirly Flowers: In this step, we are going to draw our design. Let's get started. Go ahead and choose a color from your box of crayons or your box of oil pastels. Choose a color that is a darker color. I'm going to use this dark purple color. You can choose whatever color you'd like, as long as it's a little bit on the darker side. What we're going to do is we're going to make a bunch of circles right here, closer to the top of our piece of paper. So we're not going to make our circles down here at the bottom. We're going to have a vase down here at the bottom. So we want to make our circles up here. Okay? So choose one color and go ahead and start making circles. Now you want these circles to be pretty large. About as large as your fist. So I'm just going to start with one circle about right here. And then attached to this circle, I'm going to make another circle. Then I'm just going to keep making circles. They don't have to be exactly the same size. Some circles might be a little bit larger, some circles might be a little bit smaller. But try to make sure that they touch each other, okay? Sometimes it's tricky, like right here, I didn't touch completely, but that's okay. Just going to go ahead and take a minute to do that. Alrighty, as you can see, there are some spaces that are not included in the circles and that's okay. This is where the little leaves are going to go. Okay. And then right here, I couldn't fit a circle because it's too narrow. I guess I could put a tiny circle if I wanted to, but I think I want to save that space for a little leaf. I think I do want to add one more circle right here, a small one. All right, that looks like it's going to be a nice, well rounded bouquet. What we're going to do next is we're going to put our oil pastel away that we used for a circle or your crayon. Put your crayon away if you use a crayon and then get the color green out if you do have it. If you don't have your color green, that's okay. You choose a different color, it's up to you. What we're going to do is we're going to make some leaves. I'm just going to make a leaf that looks like this. If there's a different way that you would like to make a leaf, go ahead and do that. All right? I think I've finished drawing my leaf, so I'm going to go ahead and put my green oil pastel away. What we're going to do now is we are going to take a look at our circles and we're going to add some designs, some swirls to our circles. A swirls like a spiral. And we're just going to start at the outer edge and start going around and around and around until we meet at the middle. You can use different colors for your spirals. I think I'm going to start with yellow. I'm going to start at the end. You know what, Actually, I am going to use yellow, but to show you, I'm going to use a darker color sequence. I'll start here with the big one. I'm starting by touching the line of the circle, and I'm going to start going around and around, very slowly, carefully spiral around until I hit the middle like that. Then I might use orange. Maybe on this one, maybe I'll use orange for this one. Then I'm going to switch colors. I'm going to switch to yellow. Maybe I'll use yellow here. I'm not sure if you can see that, but maybe you can here. And I'm pressing pretty hard because I want my colors to really show swirl around like that. And now I think I will switch to a different color. All right. So now what we're going to do is we're going to move down to the bottom where we have some space for our vase. Okay. You get to make any shape vase that you'd like. I think I'm just going to make a vase where the lines are coming straight down and then straight across, it's going to be a more squish vase. Let's see, which color do I want to choose? I think I'm going to choose the color red for my vase. I'm going to start about right here, then I'm going to come down, over and then back up. But you can choose a different shape for your vase if you'd like. It's completely up to you. All right. Now, inside of my vase, I think I'm going to make a design. I think I'm going to make some circles, some smaller circles like about this size that you can make any design that you'd like. All right. The last thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to make a table down here at the bottom so my floral bouquet can sit on the table. I think I'm going to use the color, the darker purple for that. I'm just going to make a curve line here. Jump over and then come out this way. If you'd like to add a design to your table, you can go ahead and do that as well. But I think I'm going to keep mine plan al right, there we go. When we come back, we will start painting our floral design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we are going to paint our design. Let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we are going to drop one or two drops of water into each of our pans of paint. What this will do is it will soften up our paints a little bit so that they are easier for us to use. I always encourage my students to take this step because it really does help. Now that our paints are softening up, let's turn our attention to our design. Here we have our floral design and our flowers, our swirly flowers are in a vase. What we're going to do is we're going to focus on painting just the flowers in the leaves and the vase in this step. Then in the next step, we are going to paint the background, which includes this area behind the design plus the table. Okay? So think about the colors that you would like to use for your design. It's completely up to you the colors that you'd like to use. I would suggest using the bright colors. Okay. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to just paint my flowers all different colors. And then I'm also going to paint my leaves green. I'm not sure about the color of my vase yet or my little dots I'm not sure about. I'm just going to get started and I'm going to choose a color that's not the same for my paint color. What I mean by that is, let's say right here, I have this green swirl. I'm not going to use green paint for my green swirl, because I want my green swirl to really stand out. So I'll use a different color. For example, yellow. I will use yellow for my green swirl. Then I will just try to mix it up as much as I can. All right, friends. Now that I have all of my flowers painted, what I'm going to do now is I'm going to move on to my green paint for my leaves and then the spaces in between the flowers. So I'm just going to pretend like these spaces right here are going to be leaves in the background of the flowers. All right? I think I've decided on painting my vase orange, and then the circles will be a light pink. So I think that that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to start by painting this vase orange. All righty friends. Now I'm finished painting the vase. I'm really happy with the way that that turned out. I did want a very light pink for my circles, my small circles. So I added quite a bit of water and just a little bit of paint because I wanted that paint to be pretty light. When we come back, we will start painting the background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint the background. Let's get started. Take a look at your artwork and decide the color or colors that you would like to use for your background. Take a look at the colors that you've already used for your artwork. And then decide which ones you think would look the best for the background. That would include this background and then the table. It's up to you the colors that you choose to use because this is your artwork and you get to do what you'd like to do when it comes to your artwork. All right. I'm going to choose the color light brown for my table and then a blue for my background. I think that those two colors would look great with this artwork. Okay, so I'm going to start by making a light brown. I'm going to put a little bit of water into one of my wells. Then I'm going to add just a small amount of brown because I want this area to be pretty light down here at the bottom like a light brown table. All right, now I'm ready to move on to this part of my painting right here in the background, I'm going to add a few drops of water into one of my wells. Then I'm going to add some blue paint. Then I'm going to start painting. All righty friends, I'm finished painting my design. I'm really happy with the way that it looks. As you can see a little bit of the paint spread around a little bit. And that's okay. That's just what watercolor paints do. They like to run around a little bit. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
