1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi, friends. How are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project, as I will guide students step by step through all of the steps that they need to take. Today, we are going to be creating this cute little kitty cat who's hanging out on the sofa or the chair or even the grass outside. And this little cat has some balloons, some heart balloons behind it. So I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a bowl or a cup with clean water. You will need a paintbrush and a black oil pastel or a black crayon and a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw a Kitty Cat and Heart Balloons Design: And in this step, we're going to draw our design. So let's get started. We're going to start by taking a look at the middle of our piece of paper. This is where our kitty cat's face is going to go, and then up above here, that's where the little heart balloons are going to go, okay? So we're going to focus right here in the bottom part of our piece of paper. So what we're going to do first is pick up our oil pastel or our crayon, and we're going to start about right here and end about right here and we're going to make a curve line. That's going to be the top of our cat's head. Then we're going to make a straight line coming up. And a straight line coming up on this side, and then a straight line coming down and another straight line coming down. Now we're going to make a curve line to close up this shape so it looks like the shape of a cat's head. So I'm going to come around with my curve line and close up. Then if you can fit a little bit of detail inside of each ear on your cat, go ahead and make a little bit of detail there. Now let's work on the inside of our cat's face, and we're going to put some features there. I'm going to put some eyes right here and they're going to be closed eyes, kind of smiley eyes, actually. You can use any type of eye that you like for your cat. This is the type that I'm choosing. Now I'm going to make a triangle nose, and then a small little smile. So a J and a J. See how my cat looks like it's smiling. Now I'm going to make some whiskers. I like to just make two or three whiskers. And then I think I'm also going to make some little cheeks. I always like to make little round cheeks. Now I'm going to make some arms down here at the bottom. So I'm going to start about right here, come down, elbow and close up with a little paw. And then I'm going to make two little lines for a paw for the little toes. And then I'm going to do the same thing on this side, but it's going to go a little bit longer. Elbow and close up. See how it looks like he's kind of tucking one hand under the other. Now I'm going to make two lines going across. And down here below is going to be it could be a sofa or a chair, and I'm going to put a few little designs down here. So I think I'll make some flowers. And I'm just going to cover that sofa or chair with some flowers. You can make any type of design that you like. I just thought that flowers would be cute. For you know what? I might even add some little poka dots here. So little dots to add a little bit more interest. There we go. How cute is that? Alright, the next thing that we're going to do is we're going to create some hearts up here. You can make as many hearts as you'd like. You could make them large or small. I'm going to make some of them a little bit bigger, some smaller. So there's one. Two. This one might be a little smaller, three, four, maybe I'll make a small one here. Alright, now that I have my hearts, I'm just going to pretend like there are strings on the hearts, and the strings are going to go behind the cat. I want them to be a little bit wavy. And then if I feel like it, I might even add some smaller hearts just around to fill up a little bit more space. Maybe one right here. Alright, I think that I'm finished drawing my design. So what I'm going to do is put my oil pastel down. If you have some oil pastel on your hand, you can go ahead and wipe it off with your handy dandy paper towel. You might not be able to get all of it off, but you will be able to get some of it off. When you're using oil pastels, it can get a little bit messy, but that's what the fun part about art is you can get a little bit messy. So when we come back, what we're going to do is we're going to apply some watercolor paints to our design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we are going to apply some watercolor paints to our design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we are going to add a drop or two of water to each pan of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up the paints so they are much easier for us to use. So I always encourage my students to take a moment to add a drop or two of water into each pan of paint. Because it really does help. Alright, now that our pans of paint are softening up, let's turn our attention to our design. So here we have a cute kitty who's leaning over a sofa or a chair, and we have some hearts in the background. Maybe balloons, maybe just designs. So I think that I am going to paint my kitty a very light brown with pink cheeks and maybe pink or red hearts. I haven't decided yet. But what you get to do is you get to decide on the colors that you would like to use for your design. This is your artwork so you get to choose the colors that you'd like. I'm going to start by painting my kitty, and like I said, I'm going to create a light brown for my cat. So I'm going to use quite a bit of water and then add a little bit of brown paint. There we go. I might need a little bit more water for this. Remember, if you'd like a lighter, softer color, you add more water. If you'd like a darker color, then you add more paint, okay? Oh, that's pretty light. Add a little bit more. There we go. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to paint my cat. And then I am going to paint my sofa or chair. And then in the next step, we will paint the background of this area back here. Alrighty friends, I'm back. I painted my cute little kitty cat, my heart balloons, and my flowers. And when we come back, we will watercolor paint our background. So I will see you back here in the next video. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint the background. So let's get started. I've decided that I'd like to paint my background right here blue. And then the sofa or the couch, I'm going to paint green. So as I said before, you get to choose the colors that you'd like, but those are the colors that I am going to use. So I'm going to put some more water into one of my wells and add my green paint. And then I'm just going to start painting. So, I am going to actually speed up this video. You can watch me, and I'll be back in just a minute. Alright, friends, I'm finished painting my painting, and I think it turned out really great. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time. O.
