1. Intropromo: Hi, guys. Welcome to my alcohol. In course today I want to teach you to techniques with alcoholics that will help you blend your color seamlessly and two techniques that will help you add technique detail into your alcohol piece that you probably have never seen before. I love alcoholics because they're wild and unpredictable, but I also think that we need to take a little bit of control back from the thinks that it's not always enough to just put uring sound, blow them around the page report hearing sounds on. Let them do their own thing. While that can be a really fun method, there is also another way to walk with your alcohol inks. And that is what I want to teach you today. So I want to take the mystery out off some of the pieces that have been created. Have you ever looked at another artist's work and just being completely overwhelmed by how complicated the piece looks and think that you could never create something like that? But I'm here to tell you they absolutely can most pieces, no matter how complicated they look when they're broken down into manageable lessons. They are very very doable. I'm going to lay in a little secret. The work that I post on Instagram is often getting commented that it looks so complicated on intricate Andi, I can tell you now that it is no as overwhelming as you might think. It is not as complicated to create as they might appear, so I'm going to be taking you through. Some of the techniques are used today in this class. I'm going to be teaching you how to make this piece of alcohol. So I'm going to be teaching how to blend the color seamlessly on going to be teaching you how to do these wispy texture details. Adamson mixed media elements into alcohol in peace to make a little bit more complex on details. And so anybody that has taken my alcohol in vocal class previously, we'll be able to incorporate the techniques that you're learning in this course with the ones you've learnt previous. So for an example, the bubble say you've learned in your previous course with the beautiful blends that were going to be there and how to create today on our wispy textures as well. So here's another example of what I'm talking about with the strong on your Google piece from your P previous class. You don't need the previous class to take this cost. You can learn these techniques all on their own on. They sit very well together in a stand alone piece. I will also be teaching you how to do these texture pieces. So this is a different blends than the one we're learning before this one on going to teach you how to detail it on at texture on, Step into your piece. We're also going to be talking a little bit of El color. So as you might already know, I absolutely adore colorful. I wasn't always like that. I used to be intimidated by color. I was afraid off the power of color because when you incorporate colder and cheer piece, it has the potential to make or break a. I originally was a sketch artist would never, ever calling my pieces. They were always left him way. But once I had a fundamental understanding off color, I was able to develop my skills that I could eventually intuitively picked my colors for my pieces. But it does begin with the fundamentals off the color wheel. So we're going to talk about some of the terminology used when you're talking about color, some of the pallets that we can mix, what color's go together, how we mix them together. Am I going to do a little project so that we can fine home are color choosen abilities, So I hope that you will take a lot from this class on. I'm ready to get starred. I hope you are too.
2. BOW PART1: Hi, everybody. Welcome to my second alcohol inky course. Today I'm going to be focusing on blending different colors on creating different textures on defects in the Alcohol Inc. I'm going to be using a method I developed by accident. It's called my hair method, so I'm going to be creating wispy strands on the Alcohol Inc. I'll show you an example now of what I'm talking about. This is what I like to call my elephant piece. I'm not sure if you concede what I see here, but it kind of reminds me of an elephant. We have his ears here and his tusks made of hair wisps. It's just tiny hair like strands on this one is my tree piece, so it's a versatile effect. You can see how they're here has made crisscross branches on hatching effects all the way down into the roots. I'll show you how I create that piece on. I created this one yesterday on this is drawing now what? This might seem like a very unusual technique, but the way I came to develop this technique Waas I was working on an alcohol in peace on when it was finished drawing. I know is that a stray piece of hair had stuck itself to the alcohol ink on. I was a little bit disappointed because I kind of seen as a mistake or m that the piece of kind of being ruined a little bit because it wasn't something that I had planned. But when I brushed the hair away, it left a gorgeous effect on. I was really happy with it then, and I kind of got me thinking about our mistakes in art. Andi from that day, I kind of had a different mindset when I came. Teoh mistakes inner. So this is kind of what I'm talking about when they say, you know, let your mistakes inspire you because there are many ways to save a piece or take inspiration from the mistake that has happened. I don't know if any of you are like me, one quite clumsy when I'm working and I have a law materials lying around. So I'm often spill innings or knocking things onto my paint, and sometimes we can say Yeah, okay, the peace Israel on done on bond, we get rid of it, but you could also take that piece, put it to the side on. And if you come up with an idea that you want to use on your alcohol in peace, you can go back to that piece. Andi, push it a little bit forwarder, because you're not so attached to the peace anymore. So that's what I would usually do with my waist pieces. Like with the hair. You get inspiration from something like that. And you think, How far can I push this one? Hair looks really cool. What if I have lots of lots of here now? This is not a hair from my head. The hair amusing is from these hairpieces, so it's just basically a synthetic clipping extension. So I just cut off a couple of strands at a time to use my piece. He combined this really cheaply on the likes of Ali Express, eBay, Amazon. It's synthetic hair, so it shouldn't cost you too much, maybe five or $6. But it's worth it because you can. We use that. It goes a long, long way. So as you can see here on my piece, I've laid down the alcohol on last night. I left it to dry, so the hair has already been laid down. The reason why use hair instead of using thread or wool is because when the alcohol touches the hair, it blooms there. So you need the absolute tennis tennis material to make a really fine, detailed wisp when you use tread because it's usually what was woven in tree or four tiny strands. So when the alcohol ing soaks into that, it will bloom quite big. So you're not getting that really fine detail and that you're getting from the hair because you might want to our detail in between your lines in here. And that's not really possible when you use anything thicker than hair. So he was really optimal for this kind of peace. It soaks up the alcohol really, really well, and it's quite easy to remove. So what I would do is once your piece is completely dry, no, you need to make sure it is completely dry, because any Web pieces in the hair will drag the ink across your page. So you just want to gently pushed a hair aside. It should come away pretty easily, and I even think sometimes maybe you're gorgeous. College terror could be used in a textile project. Someone was trying to figure out ways to reuse my waist, my drips, my cast offs on the rubbish. So if any of you have seen my alcoholic bubble course, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm a fan of the recycling bin. So this is your piece when it's dry so you can see again your wispy pieces on. I kind of kept a little focal peace in the middle. And I have some long strands coming along there. I hope you can see it out. Okay, I'll go through the materials that you're going to need to create a technique like this. So I have, of course, my alcohol ingress barrier. This is a Jsp Force eight. You're looking to purchase a mosque, the filters, organic favours. So this one is basically the filters here will be replaced every month. So the detachable you, by the middle piece on you can buy your Felder separately. I usually replace them every 4 to 6 weeks. This must come be Porteous on Amazon or directly from at the website. I will leave a link. The next thing I'm going to be using is my eyes a profile alcohol. This one is a 99.8% alcohol. I'm going to be using some latex gloves because we're going to be getting really close into the inks when you're removing the hair around a manipulating it. So we want to protect our hands and our nails I'm going to be using to scissors on this is going to be two. Separate the hair on the page so you can use scissors to pigs, some border knives, even tweezers. Anything that you have handy. They work pretty well. I'm also going to be was in a tiny papers for detail in when the piece is drawing and today the corners I'm going to be used and ah from I'm going to be using for these colors from Kill Ting's. And it's a New Irish Inc company that's as nontoxic inks and the colors I'm going to be used in our the poor poll, which is called Glionna the Teal, which is called Phua. This poor per one on it's called Gan Kanneh, and this yellow one is Corta knock, so they can be been a little bit of a metal foe. But I heard that the guy who created guilty inks is going to have the names phonetically owners website for anybody that's finding that they can't get their mouth around the names . And I'm also going to be using an alcoholic by ranger, and this one is stream on. This one is by Coppock Various Inc. And this is fluorescent door blue, so F b G two on the lid, and I have my left shark classes to mix up my colors. And, of course, my synthetic hair. But as well is that to blend the colors, I'm going to be using a long piece of tread, and this is a about 20 centimeters inland and that is going to be used for blending. 3. BOWPART2(MIX): So I begin thereby mixing other colors. I'm going to mix. A gang cannot. First Ancona by Chianti inks First, security inks are slicing and less concentrated I find than the Ranger links. So you want a little bit more? Call it. I'm just going to give it two or tree squeezes just about this much so you can see why. Tewari just not that much. It's still a good bet. Now add my alcohol at the isopropyl alcohol. I want to fill it to about 1/3 of the way off the shot glass to about toward of the way you the next corner. I'm going to be mixing up, okay? And again, we're going to mix for about one towards off the way up your shop class. This is Fiona, the owner from the same measurement there. This is the range of extreme Dream because they're a little bit confused. A little bit less little rain, Gering Ranger, and you can see it doesn't come out as fast as well. I'm kind of ink, okay? And the various Coptic in their similar to our security inks, souls, inconsistency, They aren't as homes raided your career. Full square works of the various, I think. And again one towards in the twitter. The way you put your ice a profile alcohol. Now I'm going to be prepared Just going Teoh, prepare some spare Strong's now. So just take a section of the hair like this sniffle. And these are quite sure. So I'm going to add some longer Strong's as well. Snip it off Close to the end That off. So lose your here prepared on your colors. Ready? Not forgetting are yellow the as well? Same again. A good square. Sort of the way of a tour it of doing clear isopropyl alcohol. It's you know you have all your colors. Your hair is prepared. You're ready to start
4. BOWPART3RENCUSTOM: Okay, so now that you have your color is blended, you're going to lay them down on your you pull paper. So what I'm doing is I'm going to pour small bits off each color, making sure that I can get as many different colors beside each other as I possibly can. Andi, I am working my way from the outside in. This is the best way to ensure that you have a rainbow of colors. They will go lawyer and translucent when they're blended together. So trying to get as many beside each other creates a really beautiful interest in effect. Now you take your piece of string when you're happy with the colors that you've laid down. Andi, lay it down on the U PO on, left the ink and soak into the string on Gently pull the string around you, you poor paper, mixing as many colors as you can together so you can see it's given a kind of sounds wipe effect as the colors mix them with each other. It's quite light now, so I think I'm going to add a little bit off a darker color. So I'm going to use some Coptic various Inc in pony. So just a small squared off that into your Corp mixing with a little bit off ice, a profile alcohol We don't use too much because we don't want to overpower at your piece just sparingly around the edges. Let it landau for a few seconds and take your string again. Andi, swipe it in to the rest your colors. Now don't worry too much. Every feel like that. This color is taken over your piece when the peace dries and it will be a more transparent , translucent, kind off rainbow effect. So it's not going to be as dark bore if you like. You can take a piece of tissue paper on dab the excess off if you're feeling like it's getting a little bit too dark for your liking. So I'm just gonna add a little bit more blue on top on Blend that in because I want to create kind of a poor pally color. So we're tryingto mix colors here that go well together and create a secondary color. So I'm gonna take my tissue paper now on dab away some of the excess, so scrunch it up and just gently take off where the color is pool and a little too much for you. I'm going to avoid going into that yellow peace in the middle because I want to keep that as a focal point for my peace. One of dries. So just walking around the outsides, making sure all them colors are blended. Now I'm gonna take my strands of hair on. Place them around the yellow in the middle because I'm going to keep that as the centerpiece. So just gently layer pieces down. Make sure that the ink has completely soaked into them. You want to pull them apart so that you're getting a Fondo effect? Andi Conducting down where? A brochure. Just making sure that the Incas soaked in Andi, That's going to give you your little trad. If ax, - I'm going to take me, prepare on a small bit of my blue on. I'm going to dub it into the ticker parts off the hair on. This will bleed out true, the little veins and create gorgeous mosaic effect. Now I'm going to take my scissors or your tweezers wherever you have and gently separate the hair so you can get even more detail in when the peace stores. I feel like a surgeon down this, so just gently spread them apart and you can see the blues coming true. The middle of the hairs as I separate them. Whoops. I'm just gonna that more of the excess, making sure that here is firmly stuck to my Yugo paper. So I'm going to take a small tipped to bush on some of my yellow on just gently tapping a around the outside of what is now going to become our focal point, which is the yellow in the middle. So I'm working my piece around this taken off any duster debris that might have fallen on your piece. Now I'm going to take some blue and I'm going to dabble in to the pink areas, mostly because I want to contrast in effect. So I'm just breaking up some of the heavier blocked colored areas and some pink on a pop that down where the blues and greens are. Andi
5. DETAILINGPT4,rencustom: I don't know that your pieces drawing and it's time to take off your hairs, so just gently move the page. They should come off in your house, and you should be left with your fine detail lines. Just give your page a little bit of a bush. Now make sure you get all the hairs. Now what we're going to do is we're going to start detail in this piece. So what I'm going to use for the detailer is Windsor and Newton Calligraphy Ink in Gold Dove Craft Treaty Pearl effect in copper This is war reactive dye. So it is a war color ink. So sponges a circular template for us for sensibly on a selection off Posca pens. Now the pasta pans amusing very in size. It's on the five millimeter bullet shaped Sorry. Excuse me. The 1.8 22.5 millimeter bullet point on the 0.9 to 1.3 millimeter bullets. We'll also be adding some and decorative elements to this case. So this is just scrap from a paperback that I got in the shaft on. I ripped them up into small pieces on die. Have some Prince stick to glue them now, So I'm forced to come to begin by am picking out where I want my detail in. In one. I usually start with like, white pasta pan, so I'm going to keep this piece in the middle of kind of a focal point. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go kicker and from the inside. So as we're moving out, we're going to get special and sparser with the detail in so that the main focus is on the center of my piece. So I'm going to swim with some detail in. I'm just going to do 20 dots. Make sure you give your at a hospital in a good shape because clearly quit will compare. Forced on. You want to keep pressing down the name until the white liquids that's coming. So I'm just going to step down around the center of the peace. I've said this before in my last e course, and it's something that comes up a lot when people are talking about my work and her patient. You must be to stay on, do the level of detail in that I do in my pieces. I'm not usually a patient person on don't like waiting for anything for when it comes to our I've learned stuff, and it's about enjoying the process. So instead off keeping your focus on your finished piece and just be mindful. Stay in the moment and enjoy what you're doing. Take your time with it. There's no rush to get to the end of it. The peace will be will be finished eventually. Well, it's like a good book. If you've ever read a really good book on and not wanted it to end. That's how you should be feeling when you're doing your detail. And so stop trying to get to the end of it. Um, just enjoy the med. It'd process. So it it is like meditating. It's like and get of is an where you can just relax and take it easy, and it's really where the hell and an art Holmes from When you're taking your time on your embarrassing yourself in your piece and you're not thinking about anything else, I am that this is why we paint for the love of the process. So take your time with the details, and it's a really excellent process as you start to see your piece come together. Um, you could be really proud on that from scratch. You create something that's complex and beautiful now, so I'm just going into the pieces that have and negative space. So you have your little empty space pockets. Andi, I, um, concentrating as well on the lines that are cursed or what? I like to accentuate the lines that them have that flow Some of the empty spaces. I'm just gonna Really Yeah, just put some of them like this one here. I'm going to fill in the hole and square with thoughts. This is how we can make the peace interesting and so that it has different elements to look at. - I find that and a lot of people struggle with the notion of known. Went to stop the piece. You know, if you're feeling like maybe you are overworking it or doesn't need a little bit more and I find a really good tip for that is I don't know why this work. Maybe it's just having a different perspective on a poor. If you take a picture of your painting on, look at the picture of a instead of looking at the actual painting, I do that point in law, and it's almost clearer for you to know what needs to be added. If anything needs to be taken away, you can tell very easy if you're finished or not. And if you don't want to take a picture of it, you could bring out to a mirror. Hold it up to the mirror, look at it in the mirror. So you're kind of looking at it from somebody else's perspective. Maybe, and it works for you out so you can see again how the colors have blended together with the With the string method. You're not getting any harsh lines. Everything is blended seamlessly. It's kind of whimsical and layered camera. You can see the colors underneath. It's almost like the force there is transparent on. You can see the layers underneath the colors where you also have the greens coming in with the yellows. Um, on. This is This is how you can stop the moodiness by mixing colors go well together. Greens and yellows and pinks, portals, reds, blues go nice together. So I'm going to leave the boy detained for a few minutes I'm going to add some green dots, so I'm not going to be too precious about where important these. Just taking them along the outside randomly. Now, this is something that I find you want to build up, so and you cannot a little bit of one color and then going with another color. So this one is emerald green, just one or two dots in a building process. This also helps, um, not go to fire on your peace and over Walker just kind of gradually adding the detail. But the only thing about the pasta panzar on the U boat, they can be taken off. You have a time cotton board on a little bit war, any of the they and this is the yellows. Go really, really nice on the pinks and portals. They really make a pop. So when I'm going around the edges, I'm concentrating on where there are underline pinks. This is now I'm going to be using my Windsor and Newton gold calligraphy ink my dog craft treaty peril effect in gold on a paint burst, too. Put down the gold calligraphy ink forced on. I'm going to add the dots with the door craft over there. Calligraphy and Gwen, it's Troy. So just gonna mix it up here That could be quite won't be at the bottom, so make sure it's fluid. Give it a good mix of your paintbrush. And I'm just gonna pick random spots around the focal point to add the gold calligraphy ink - so you'll know it's here where they're blue. Spot is. It's where we splashed are alcoholic on our paintbrush, you can see have the blues and are comin out from underneath your painting Now, now I'm going to use my harmony by spectrum nor war reactive dye in orange on my stencil at Circle Stansell. I'm just gonna take a little makeup sponge, travel into the ink on a place I'm going to go right around the outside as well. Place your Stansell down and just gently dub the doi onto the stencil. I'm going to pick places that have more pinks in them because I think the pinks are gorgeous. Are the or excuse me. The oranges are gorgeous on top of the pink. I'm trying to avoid anywhere where the hair is so that we can keep that detail license strong, so I'm mostly concentrating on the empty spaces around the outside. Now I'm going to take my pasta pan in black, and I've gone to add song random dots around the outside. I like toe adds the darker colors towards the end just to make a little bit deeper and give it like a kind of a shaded look. I'm black and really make the air. Pinks and the blues pop out of your page so you can see here we have tree main clusters where the Harris. So I'm going to just avoid them. I'm going around the outside of them. Haven't definitive focal points like these coasters or your middle piece here can give you a mixed media piece, a little bit more structure and depth. It's nice, Teoh. Bring your viewers I across the page on give them something to focus on. It really is interesting to look at, and it's really beautiful. - So now I'm going to take thes at scrap pieces of paper that I ripped off a paper bag. I got in a shop and I'm going to add some extra elements to my mixed media piece, so I'm just going to keep playing them down figuring that word they fear I have been ripped up into pieces, so it's kind of like a jigsaw, and I'm just use in regular craft glue. This is pretty stick to stick them down. I'm going to tear off some smaller pieces because I don't want to over Well, my my inks So moving around, just deciding where it looks good. I want mixed media pieces. The more layers that you add, the more depth that you're bringing into your piece and you're just pulling it all together . So Okay, I like this little piece in here. We have a little blank space in between and all these hairs, so I'm going to stick this down here. Now I'm going to add some more of my Duracraft treaty. I'm going to put this on top off the Windsor noon calligraphy ink. So are given it an MBA hosed treaty effect. So just done on over the gold. If they were careful with these, because sometimes the tip gets blocked and you can get on and a Tony about hard glue on what you push down your explodes on your piece of paper, so make sure that it's flowing freely if you need to stick a little pin down their laws. A lover, it usually on blocks it. The Dove craft is one of my favorite mixed media tilt because it's such a vibrant gold on this. It looks really beautiful when it's dried. I'm not being too precious about these, Doctor. I just wanted to look, um, a little bit messy. It gives the ornate detailer on I'm going to blend this. I want to blend this more into my piece on just kind of sub Maris's. So I'm going to add the bill craft around the edges. It just makes a little bit more seamless. - Now I'm just adding some finishing touches, so I'm just gonna top up anywhere. I think need a little bit extra detail in driving down some of these circles. I'm really loving how the orange looks toe help the rest of the peace pop. I'm going. Teoh. Use some of my black fine liner pen to add some detail in around the focal point as well. Again, this is just helping your piece have a little bit of extra decked and a little bit of extra texture, so I'm going to take just the outside bitter, trying to blend in elements into peace. Tiny little black dots. This has a brush tip, and so it's a little bit thicker and softer than the other fine tip pens, and it makes a glossy black. And don't. I'm going to work it into the gold they have around the side just to give a lover shading, and I have a little bit dept into your piece. - Now I'm going to just take a little and empty coke on some more isopropyl alcohol on a small paper toe. Absalom at Kloster Bubble details. So these will be clear. You cannot call it to them if you like. For I find that the piece is quite loud now on. I just want to have some sort of detail in So on. God's going with the clear and doctors that these will be really, really sold detailer, so you can add as much as this as you like, without overpower in your piece again. Just taking around the outside over our focal point, - and the reason why it works so well, even though there's an awful lot going on in your painting is you still have your negative space in the inside here on around here. Although it's not complete your negative because it's not work, it's still on plain enough that it brings balance into your piece. So I'll keep this on here. Clear around the edges, clear on the side here and some small bit on in here. I think the pieces started to develop that kind off. Um, under the seamer, maybe kind of feel. So I'm quite happy with the colors and how they blend. They will take my brush Unjust. I'm going to gently tap some of the alcohol around. The outside is out now . I'm happy enough with the amount of detail. And I think this piece now is finished so you can see where I have the light clear bubbles on how all of the pieces are blended seamlessly together. So I hope you're happy with your piece and had as much fun as I had making it
