Are you an illustrator that wants to start playing around with animation? Are you also a little overwhelmed by the thought of having to learn new software? Great news: you don’t have to! In this workshop you’ll join two illustrators-turned-animators as they walk you through easy, accessible techniques for adding movement to your images. Learning some basic animation skills will breathe life into your work and open doors to new work and art opportunities. Total animation beginners are welcome, though some comfort drawing freely and expressively will be helpful. You will need access to Photoshop and Procreate.
Workshop Timeline
- Milestone 1: First up, join illustrator Chris Piascik in Frame by Frame Animation: Fun Tips and Tricks for Non-Animators. Chris walks you through setting up files for animation in Photoshop and Procreate, making images wiggle and vibrate, using smears to create movement with a single frame, and using exaggeration and timing to make more expressive animations. Share your animation in the Project Gallery by November 23rd.
- Milestone 2: Next, join illustrator Sandra Bowers in Procreate Animation for Illustrators and Surface Designers: Make Your Artwork Pop. Sandra guides you through 6 different techniques for adding movement: moving objects on a path, the Transform tool, the liquefy tool, drawing frame-by-frame, the Eraser, and transparencies. Share your animations in the Project Gallery by December 7th.
