In this workshop, you’ll join three accomplished filmmakers for a crystal clear roadmap to creating your own cinematic video with nothing but your phone. The project for this workshop is to create your own cinematic 60-second video to put your new skills to the test! Any smartphone will work for this workshop.

Workshop Timeline

Milestone 1: First, join Caleb Babcock and Niles Grey from Moment in iPhone Filmmaking: Create Cinematic Video with Your Phone. In this crash course on iPhone filmmaking, Caleb and Niles cover everything from apps to exporting. You’ll learn fundamentals that can apply to every level of filmmaking, whether you want to make short travel videos or a longer narrative film. Caleb and Niles explore apps and gear (and how to use them); methods for setting up core shots, and experimental ones; and the basics of transferring and editing your footage. Share your work-in-progress in the Project Gallery by May 4th.
Milestone 2: Up next, join filmmaker and producer Simon Cade in Filmmaking on a Budget: Tips for Achieving a Cinematic Look. Here you’ll develop your cinematic eye with deep, experiential tips and tricks for achieving a beautiful, professional look without the expense. Simon’s class is not specifically about the iPhone, but any camera will work! He says: ““The cinematic style has way more to do with everything around the camera than with the camera itself.” Share your finished 60-second video in the Project Gallery by May 18th.
