Create quirky characters, stylize your friends, or draw expressive self-portraits in this fun workshop! You’ll learn three different but equally bold approaches to capturing likeness with attitude, with lots of tips, techniques, and shortcuts along the way. You’ll need an iPad, the Procreate app (free), an Apple pencil, and access to Adobe Illustrator to participate. This workshop is geared towards advanced beginners or intermediate artists and some familiarity with Procreate and Illustrator will be helpful.

Workshop Timeline

Milestone 1: First up, join illustrator Maia Faddoul in Illustrating Expressive Portraits in Procreate. Maia shares a variety of techniques and Procreate tips to create vibrant, colorful portraits. You'll learn how to create and save your own color palettes, how to sketch your subject with the final portrait in mind, and how to use patterns and traditional media brushes to give personality to your image. Share your portrait in the Project Gallery by August 5th.
Milestone 2: Next, in Illustration in Action: Creating Stylized Portraits, a Skillshare Original, you’ll join designer and illustrator Andrea Pippins to create portraits with bold patterns and expressive typography. You’ll learn how to gather inspiring references, sketch effectively, and digitize your work in Illustrator. Share your portrait in the Project Gallery by August 14th.
Milestone 3: Last, in Fun with Faces: Create a Stylized Digital Portrait, you’ll join greeting card designer Charly Clements for a class on drawing quirky characters. You’ll learn how to capture expressions with simple shapes and add personality with hair styles, clothes, accessories, and color. Share your own digital portrait in the Project Gallery by August 24th.
