Watercolour Skies

I am working through this course with my 13 year old daughter. Here is our first painting of skies over a mountain...

My daughter's painting is on the top and mine on the bottom. My daughter had problems controlling the water, working wet-on-wet is hard.

We had a go at Day 2...

We both painted this one twice, with my daughter's attempts at the top and mine on the bottom.

Looking at the results, on her first attempt my daughter struggled a lot with her flat wash, mostly because she didn't have enough pigment to water in her mix. It doesn't look too bad here because I challenged her to try to fix the painting using colour pencils, which she did.

The next day, I painted this one again (bottom right) but this time I used the same paint-set as my daughter and I had her watch while I described what I was doing. Then I let her paint her version and this time I think it went much better. The flat wash isn't quite right because she hadn't mixed enough paint before she started, so had to mix more and that is never going to be easy.

I'm happy with both of my paintings for this one. I made the second one look more dreamy because I'd already painted the picture once, so just mixed it up a bit to try to make it look a bit more dramatic by pushing the contrast up.
