Watercolour Procreate Owl

Wowsers! I honestly didn’t think I was going to be able to do this class today as it asks for a combination of traditional watercolour on paper and transferring the image into Procreate and working on it from there. I am quite familiar with Procreate though I am no expert. But here’s the rub… I do not own any traditional media whatsoever. I happen to live in the tiniest apartment in the universe. It is no exaggeration when I say there is not one single scrap of paper in my home whatsoever nor is there a pencil pen brush or anything to create with except for my iPad and Procreate. I used to work with traditional media and watercolours was a favourite of mine so I was determined to find a workaround to be able to do this class especially as I have enjoyed learning from Irina so much thus far.
So here’s what I did. I happen to own some beautiful watercolour brushes that are created by Irina so that is a good start. Instead of creating the base owl image with traditional watercolour media on paper, I created it on one layer in Procreate with Irina‘s watercolour brushes, again on just one layer.
I then saved this image to my photos and then imported it to the next stage of the process. Which is what you would do in this class! If you were using traditional watercolours and paper you would be importing a photo of what you created with that media and then I worked from there following Irina‘s instructions and I was able to finish the class! I do feel that combining these brushes and elements I still learned everything that I was supposed to. I had a wonderful and joyful experience. I learned to paint in a way that I haven’t before in Procreate and I learned to add texture in a way that I haven’t in Procreate. And as always it is just a joy to learn from Irina. She has such passion for her craft and for other artists and it is just delightful watching her share that with us. As I am returning to the art world after a 30 year break, Irina has played a very large role in my learning pathway but also giving me confidence to play and explore. I highly recommend this class and her course!
