Watercolor Goldfish

I painted these goldfish after taking Anne Butera's Learn to Paint Watercolor Goldfish class. I'm very happy with my results even though I had some hiccups during the process.

Firstly, my paint left tiny specks of pigment as if it didn't dissolve in the water. I used Faber-Castell watercolor paints and Strathmore 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, so I'm not sure why I got this reaction.

I also, dripped some paint in the blank area and when I tried to take it up, it left obvious residue, so I decided to add some blue bubbles and a watery wash to try and cover it up. It worked, but I think I prefer the fish sans bubbles. Maybe next time.

After they completely dried, I cut them to fit some ready-made blue cards I had on hand and glued them in place -- I enjoy sending friends and family handmade cards when I can.

My cats critiqued them. Billy liked the last one I did, which is my favorite as  well.

Buster (a.k.a. Fuzz Bear) wasn't impressed with the second one I painted as you can see from his initial reaction,

but when he saw them all together, he thought they were okay.

Like Anne, they would both like to have some real goldfish, so they can watch them swim :)
