The coquito cocktail

The coquito cocktail - student project

The coquito, is a Puerto Rican blend that originated on the island dating back decades ago. It's base of coconut and sweet condensed milk gives it a rich creamy texture that almost resembles eggnog. Coquito has set base original recipe however, it is made different from household to household, with families adding their own twist and including other ingredients or alcohols and spirits. I know of such of a family that blends cream cheese and walnuts in their concoction. I personally like to use a cognac instead of a island rum such as Puerto Rican rum, Don Q or Wray and Nephew, a very strong Jamaican white rum with a strong kick back. My personal recipe blends honey and a hint of vanilla to make the drink more unique and personal in creation. This drink is a tradition in itself. No one Puerto Rican goes without coquito in the holiday season. Whether adding their own ingredients or keeping it original coquito is a drink every body should try at least once in their life. Please do to heaven without it.
