The Rain is the Sea with Hone Delivery
I have an idea, but have no style.
First step is searching references.
I can choose a whale like an allegory of sea, I try to find references with color which I want to use. I would like to draw a picture looking as if it was painted on the board some time ago.
I would like to get a picture with text and image in equal proportion.
Second step - composition.
In small schematic sketches I tried to build up the layout using the tips from the reference pictures I found.
I chose two layouts for more detailed drawing.
Both images were drawn with pencil in larger size.
Third step is inking.
Using light table I transfered both large pictures with a various thickness liners.
Then the images were scanned with big resolution.
One of images should be made with overlay methods, so some elements were inked several times on a several pieces of paper.
Fourth step is adding digital color and texture for final polish.
Scanned and traced images were loaded into the graphics editor. The colors set was picked out of the reference images. Separately inked elements of the whole illustration were compiled. Then black/white coloring with solid fills was made.
Using chosen colors set I made few different versions of the coloring of my illustration.
Final step
I have chosen the resulting version of the illustration which I finalized with special brushes and scratches mock-up.
I have another one coloring solution.
Self-criticism.
The inking was very hard for me, so the lines look rough and the illustration looks messy. I suppose, that more practice will solve the problem.
The idea of the girl with umbrella standing on the whale was not worked out thoroughly because I did not processed enough reference images I found. I will improve and finalize this idea in future.
I considered only various ideas with a whale as a central element, which made the solution a little alternativeless. I should have used more graphic elements and vary the letters style.
Thank you very much for your workshop!
