SkillShare Creative Writing essay

As a writer myself, I’ve gone many times where it feels like I’ve had writer’s block. I’m currently having some trouble with a  new script. I know how it ends, but I’m having trouble trying to start it. I want to start it off by writing it as an outline before the actual writing process. But even sometimes I deviate or change the outline too. It’s happened in many other scripts in the past.

There were times where I’ve written badly and discontinued my work. I still do it to this day. Sometimes my writing is good and other times it’s bad.

I don’t really do free writing. I’m always worried about punctuation and grammar. Sometimes I correct people on that. It’s just the writer in me.

I don’t start from just anywhere when I write. I like to start off in the beginning. I like to follow a certain order when I write. I’m just orderly like that.

I don’t normally have a routine of where or when I write. The two places where I’ve always found myself writing is at home or at my job. I’ve always liked to carry my writing materials with me. A couple of notebooks, a notepad, and numerous pens. I try to adhere to the rules of a writer.

I don’t remember the last writing exercise I did. But I do remember writing a short story that was only ten pages. I wanted to use that as a way to show off my writing skills. But no one has read it or any of my other scripts yet.

I took a break from writing this year for three and a half months because I was planning ahead for a solo film shoot. Now that my film shoot ended over a month ago, I was ready to get back into my writing. When I was between the ages of eighteen and nineteen, I stopped writing for a year because I thought my writing wasn’t going anywhere. But I started doing it again.

I have many books on writing that I haven’t read yet. Since I’m into screenwriting, the one book I read the most was The Screenwriter’s Bible. I’ve read that book (5th, 6th, and 7th editions) three times.

Writing has always been a joy to me. It’s the one thing I do best in my life. But I have to admit that it’s also hard work too. It is not easy. I’ve never had a deadline to write anything. I’ve always written for me and no one else. But I do remember having a writing assignment for a regents exam when I was a kid back in Brooklyn. I’d like to use my writing to make money.

I’ve gotten much inspiration from the many scripts I’ve written over the years. I wrote one that based on an old 90’s song. I have another one based on an incident that happened to me at an old security job years ago. I still have a story idea that was given to me by a married woman who I had a crush on back in the early 2000’s. And I have one script that I wrote that I named after a woman I liked who ended up moving to Texas.
