Sketchbook

Overall, I enjoyed these exercises.  It was interesting to push through and do ones that I knew I wouldn’t like.  It’s in doing this that we grow, right?  I tried different things and most importantly, got back into sketching without having to give it too much thought. I appreciate the prompts so I didn’t have to try to think of things myself.

Not my fave, just a mug I had used. I really enjoyed doing this quickly.

Left handed sketch - Feel I was very hesitant to draw, partially because it was my left hand, partially because of the subject matter. It’s not quite enjoyable to draw my chemo egg head.

Loved this exercise, it was fun and playful.  It was easy for me to draw and not worry about proportion.

While doing this I felt these looked more like blobs, but was comfortable with the lose sketchiness needed for this one.

Rather than draw myself in a spook I made my daughter hold the spoon and I snapped a picture of her reflection on the serving spoon.  The upside down one was actually harder because of the drastic distortions on the back.  The right side up one was distorted just enough that I didn’t worry about it looking like my daughter, just blocked in where I saw the darkest colours and went from there.

I laughed when I saw a comparison of these two.  Just goes to show that a reference, regardless on if you choose to use it for all the details or just use it for a basic likeness really helps.

What a fun playful exercise.

This one, along with the left handed self portrait, was my least favourite.  I’m all about loose, but I just felt this was so unrecognizable, and I didn’t enjoy this one. BUT I still did it!
