Sister Project

I took this class earlier in the year. When I told my sister about it, she said she'd been wanting to learn how. Her birthday was coming up a month or so later, as was her 30-year work anniversary, so I decided to surprise her. I began assembling supplies to travel to her so we could do some of these together. Then life happened, my car a/c went out, and I couldn't get over there until last week. (And by then, it was no longer a surprise, but she was still so excited!)

I'd continued to gather supplies over the summer as Michael's had sales - ha! - and ended up with enough substrates that we did 10 pours each! LOL! I'll share a few below.

I do have a question about the bright pink one though. Almost immediately after the pour, some of the edges and sides developed a "rash" of sorts. It didn't happen on any of the others. This is the only one we used neon paint on, so I'm wondering if that could be the cause, or if perhaps this one canvas was moldy? I had gesso'd the canvases weeks before I traveled, and all of them looked fine as we began pouring.

The different substrates we used were: canvas panels, cheap canvases (maybe from Walmart? I already had them), cradle boards (my favorite), and Level 3 canvases from Michael's. We used Floetrol and silicone oil, with different brands of paints - some craft paints, some Arteza, some Liquitex Basics, and one Golden High Flow.

We had so much fun, and both realized this could become an addicting hobby! Thanks so much for teaching me so I could give her such a fun day!

My sister's:

And a few of mine:

These spots started first on two perpendicular edges and the sides of the canvas (Level 3), but then others popped up all over, just on the pink one.

This cradle box was one of my absolute favorites, but unforunately, it was damaged as I unloaded the car when I got home. I thought the paint was completely dry - it had been about 30 hours - but when it tilted in a box, it hit the side smack in the center. I'll paint over it, but sad I didn't get to keep this one.

Such a great project. Thanks again, Denise!
