Hello, My name is Lizz. I normally write dark fantasy with a hint of romance, but I’ve been wanting to write horror for years now. I love horror movies, and spooky things, so I think a horror story would be fun to write.

My story is not a demonic creature story.

The conflict of the story is that children are dying in this small farming town. The main character has a psychic bond with the demon who is doing it, and sets out to stop him.

I’m unsure how to write this story because it follows the characters when they’re young (seven) and then again when they are teenagers. I’m aiming for it to be a middle grade read. Currently the story jumps back and forth in time, but I might split it up into two parts.

 

The story follows Grace (name pending) who lives on a farm with her dad. One day a spooky scarecrow is left at the town’s hotel, and brought to the farm. Grace touches it and feels a sharp paint. She sees blood on the scarecrow’s mouth area, which quickly gets absorbed into the fabric. Grace tells her father and shows him the wound on her hand, but he brushes it off as her gets cut by the loose straw.

She later has a nightmare of all the kids in their small town drowning one by one until the scarecrow looks at her, causing her to wake up. She then finds out that the first boy who went into the water actually drowned that night. Kids start dying or going missing in the same order they did in her dream. She also starts seeing through the eyes of the monster.

She tries to tell her dad, but he doesn’t believe her until one of the other girls comes to their house, bleeding, and being chased by the Scarecrow. They end up burning down the house, and drive away. But the girl gets caught and is left behind.

Later in time, Grace starts having visions again, so she and her dad return to the town, which has been abandoned for years. They crash the car after seeing the scarecrow. Grace wakes up in the car, but her dad is gone. She explores the town and finds her friend who got left behind. The scarecrow controls her and she attacks Grace. Grace has to defeat her friend, and then fight off the scarecrow. In the end, she walks away from the town, alone, and scared of when the scarecrow will return again.
