I set up a little still life with some items I had planned to use for a photo shoot. I actually had that trophy made. They're not expensive. I think the red thing is vintage boy's football shoulder pads. I don't think roller derby queens wore shoulder pads, then or now, but I liked the look. Do they?

I did a quick sketch. Hated it.

I started blocking in some color. Still hated it.

I tried again. Still hated it. I wanted it to be simpler. More naive. Less like it was trying to capture a likeness.

I tried one last time, looking at it less and imagining it a little more. This isn't really my usual drawing style so it was kind of difficult, but I think this is more in the right direction.
