Revolutionary treatment for cancer
First of all, thank you, Tom, for another amazing, engaging, and fun class! I really enjoyed it!
For my project, I illustrated the headline "Breakthrough in Cancer Research: Scientists Discover Revolutionary Treatment."
This headline really struck a chord with me, as cancer has played a significant role in my family over the past decade.
So, here's my headline analysis:

My brainstorming session gave me these ideas to work with:

These are the sketches using various tropes:

I really liked the idea of emphasizing the word revolutionary by using the style of old Soviet illustrations. Therefore, I ended up with these two final sketches:

I preferred the idea of using the shadow, which led to my final illustration:

After Toms feedback, I edited the image accordingly and created this second version:

I also created a mockup of a fictional newspaper, featuring some funny science facts on the side:

Here are also my exercises:
Exercise 1 – Is it conceptual?

The left side shows the conceptual illustration because it depicts a burglar entering a room through a computer monitor. This suggests that your computer is a security risk. Criminals could sneak into your private space using your computer.
The right image, on the other hand, simply shows a colorful illustration of a guy having a good time, without a deeper meaning or symbolism.
Exercise 2 – Symbolic nouns

Exercise 3 – Drawing idioms
This one was a lot of fun! I chose the German idiom "Jemandem einen Bären aufbinden," which literally translates to "to tie a bear onto someone." The meaning is to tell someone a lie or an unbelievable story. I immediately liked the image of someone with a bear on their back. I changed the position and role of the bear in the other illustrations.

Exercise 4 – Tropes Bingo

Bingo! :D
