Reading!
1. How will you make your environmental cues more prevalent?
I love reading. It always makes me very happy to read. I feel like I am myself when my world-view expands. Knowledge is freedom. However, I have been struggling to find the time and energy to read. I have many things I feel like I need to do so it is difficult to keep a habit of reading.
I will create these four cues:
- I will leave the book on my night stand so that it is easy accessible for me in the evening.
- I will leave another book on my dining table where I eat my breakfast so that I am reminded of that I can choose to read also in the morning.
- I will bring out a few books that will be visible in my flat (at the moment I dont have any that are visible)
- When I read, I will say to myself how much I enjoy doing this activity (I've heard that this way it is easier to get a dopamine reward for any activity, regardless if you actually like it).
2. What is the smallest repeatable step you can do?
The smallest easiest step is to read 10 minutes in the bed before I sleep. I have done this before and it works quite well. As long as the book is not the heavy/demanding, and I am not too tired. This will also keep me from being on the computer before I sleep as well as motivating me to go to bed early.
3. How can you bring joy into your habit? How can you make it feel good?
In addition to what I said on question nr 1, I can also do the following:
- Make the reading activit a coxy time by bringing some tea/caffeinefree coffee with me in bed,
- I can make sure to be warm, relaxed and content when I read.
- I know that if I read, I will more often have something interesting to say to friends/collegeaues (i.e an interesting topic of conversation).
- I know that if I read, my mind will expand. I will find inspiration. I will find knowledge that will make my inner world a better place. It is also good for my brain and mental health to change some of the screen time to book time.
- When I am done with my first book I will reward myself with something nice. Perhaps buying one of my favourite books?
