Krystal, I've done the content mill thing, so I know how you feel! Many years ago, I broke into print magazines and they paid a lot more. It was intimidating at first, especially because I didn't have any clips of published work. What worked for me was writing fillers - really short pieces. When I got those published, I could add those magazines to my list of publishing credits.  I've also landed a lot of client work through my blog. People found me through Google searches, read my blog, and then hired me.  One thing I haven't done but that I know others do successfully is getting work through sites like Upwork. There are some classes here on Skillshare that teach how to do that, so you might want to check those out. It seems that you have to start off with lower paying assignments to build your reputation, and can increase your hourly rate from there.  Good luck with your writing!

Yes, I know a couple who started their freelance careers going through Upwork. I've been thinking about starting a profile on the site.

I guess the one thing for me that I would like to happen is to be able to pitch. I've only been able to write for a content mill and I don't even know where to start outside of the content mill. I would like to learn how to pitch to clients and get a well paid writing job. I would like to eventually leave my day job and make a living writing.
