Practicing Trees Updated
For my practice, I drew some tree roots around an existing sketch in my Blackwing sketchbook with Blackwing graphite pencil. The bunny and the moth were from another Skillshare project but the page looked really empty, so I decided to incorporate a tree trunk with gnarly roots. The Blackwing paper is super smooth, but on the left side it's rougher because I had a thin layer of gesso on that side. I really like the effect of having that bit of tooth on the paper, I think it works well for the tree bark texture.

My other practice session was in acrylic ink marker in my Ohuhu sketchbook. I just did some quick tree sketches, and an imagined landscape.

I decided to do a bit more work on my tree sketches and did a full page acrylic ink marker sketch on the page next to this one using a bonsai tree as a reference. I also decided to add a few little leaves to the imagined landscape tree at the top of this page. I wanted it to look like the beginning of some spring growth.

It was hard to get a good photo of the tree on the left; there's a strong reflection off the darkest areas in the center part of the tree.
