Practice for a Larger Piece

Practice for a Larger Piece - student project

I had some struggles with this class - the first practice was the hardest, and I really struggled not to get streaky lines in my wet into wet technique - it might be a feature of the paper or the brush, I am not sure.

I have painted underwater scenes before the second practice was the most useful, brining in the C-shaped light patterns that are more familiar to me as a diver.

It might be an issue with the paints I am using (Pthalo Blue), but I struggled to create convincing jellyfish - I'll keep experimenting with different techniques.

I am planning some larger paintings of rays that I have been lucky enough to observe, particularly blue-tailed rays, but they are quite challenging to draw thanks to their cartilaginous skeleton and putting them into this scene would require a much larger paper, so that's a future goal.
