Love your sense of humor Christine ~ Always gives me a chuckle!  He has a true boy expression and I know my son had a black eye or two at this age. But really, your piece has true character. The layering of colors is perfect and your background is so smooth and subtle it sets up the scene beautifully :)

Christine this is a brilliant portrait. I can relate to this brave young guy's expression. Perhaps he has been through the war and received a shiner, ( I usually do that swelling stuff on the mouth) but his beautifully painted eyes tell us he will win the war! kidding aside, his skin tones are wonderful and the depth you've created is so well done.

I love the skin tones you got; there's a lot of subtle variety and the warm and cool tones play off each other well. Also love the soulful introspective expression, it has a lot of interest and feeling.
