Theresa, I love how you added the background and adjusted the colors, even though the original is wonderful. I love the flow of the lines and choice of colors. I have a lot to learn from this! Thank you.

I love this pattern and the palette. Especially the first version with the quieter background, although the second one is great too.

I ultimately made a few more revisions and put an all over print and 2 scales of borders on Spoonflower (custom printed fabric on demand).

Thanks Chris. Here's version  2.  I changed stroke color, and in some cases, weight.  I complicated the background pattern, changed the color (which made a big difference), made it repeatable, and dropped the transparency to 35%.<img src="https://static.skillshare.com/uploads/parentClasses/78c6fc64aa4cbb1ecd229b895d052b77/cc31d599" alt="cc31d599" />

Cool - It looks great. The secondary pattern adds depth to the composition.

Hi Theresa I love how you tackled a plant with complex leaf shapes and flowers. The primary design is balanced. As with the other student projects, it’s great to see that you’ve tackled an asymmetrical design successfully. One recommendation I have is to experiment with the secondary pattern. For example, try reducing the opacity which will make it recede into the background and separate it from the primary pattern.  Perhaps add more tendrils and berries (I know this is a fair bit of work though).  For a quicker result, you could group and reduce the secondary pattern’s elements to ¼ of it’s size and repeat and rotate each repeat unit 16 times (four across and four down) across the background. If you are using Affinity Designer, use the Symbols feature that is described in my decorative band class. This means you can then modify one unit, and the other 15 units will update automatically. It’s a real time-saver. My other recommendation is to reduce the contrast/white (but only a fraction) of the line that runs around the leaves and stems. Something a bit closer to the pale grey used on the seed head may work well.  I get a real buzz seeing student projects. Although when I started filming this class, I thought this would be an easy class, but by the time I finished, I realised that I’d created something that looks complex. Did the grid and the design principles make it easier for you to achieve the balance between Victorian formality and the naturalism of the Arts &amp; Crafts period? Please post any changes you make. I’m keen to see how it develops. Thank you for sharing your wonderful project. I forgot to mention that I love the colours and detail of the flowers (petals, anthers, etc).
