Pen drawing practice

I really enjoyed this class, thank you!

This was my first time trying hatching/cross hatching with intention, and the first time completing drawings with fine liners. I found it interesting that there are so many different ways to combine three different pens.

While I enjoyed shading the apples, I like that we were coached through completing a more complex drawing using the same techniques. I particularly enjoyed trying to create depth in this scene between the blades of grass and the floor petals.

It's a small detail, but I like too that the hole in the tree was achieved with cross-hatching to match the rest of the drawing. Previously I would have simple coloured this in solid black.

I didn't think I would like the scumbling technique, but actually found making a series of random lines of different sizes very effective. I like how I could use shorter lines and dots to create a sense of distance, as well as increasing the volume to create shadows.

I'm very happy with how the frog turned out, given that I was quite intimidated by the template. I know I have a lot to learn, but I was quite surprised by how quickly something recognisable came together. I'm looking forward to using these techniques to approach drawing more subjects.
