Pears with Gouache

Pears with Gouache - student project

Another little project to practice my gouache techniques after the avocados. I like how Elisabetta teaches her classes because I can follow her guidance and paint along with her. When I need more time, I pause the video and continue with my thing.

In case of this pear, I used a slightly darker colour than the teacher: burnt sienna. I wanted to see how much the colour of the underpainting affects the final result. I discovered that the colour matters a lot because my painting became much darker than expected. I was happy with the result, but it's like a statue, not a real fruit. So I decided to paint another pear using the learnt techniques.

This time I used a real-life subject. First, I created a tonal study with a pencil, carefully observing the light and shadows. Then I transferred the pear to my sketchbook and started with the painting. I used some colour inspiration from Pinterest because I wanted to use different colours than in the case of the first pear. For underpainting this time, I used yellow ochre. I like this outcome as well, I think that now it looks like a real pear.

Thank you, Elisabetta, for your excellent course. You're a real inspiration, I learnt a lot of valuable techniques from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it's much appreciated.
